Is anyone having trouble with the Google Calendar (from the Play Store, updated on 11/20) since upgrading to 4.4? Whenever I install the Google Calendar from the Play Store it stops the default Moto X calendar from working and neither the Google Calendar or the Stock Calendar work when it is installed.

the "stock" moto X calendar is the "old" Android calendar. why they don't merge when you install the google calendar is beyond me. i had both operational (at the same time) in 4.2.2 and ended up disabling the android calendar. they functionally identical, but only one is updated in the market.
I been wondering about this also. Hopefully this has been fixed in 4.4. It's amazing how Motorola missed this.

With 4.2.2 I was able to successfully "disable" the AOSP calendar under the App settings (unrooted, stock) and the Play Store Calendar would still function fine. After the Kit Kat update, when I disable AOSP calendar, it breaks the Play Store version. This is really annoying because if I leave them both installed, besides the clumsy look of having 2 calendars in the app drawer, I get 2 separate notifications. I suppose I could try disabling notifications on the AOSP version... but anyone have other suggestions or similar experience?
This is odd, on my Verizon moto x DE I just have one calendar app and always have, both on 4.2.2 and the new 4.4. This must only be a problem for other carriers?

Are you sure you've disabled android calendar and NOT calendar storage? I had the android calendar disabled prior to 4.4 and it remained disabled after the update and my Google calendar works fine.

I have a vzw retail version. If you check the market for Google Calendar, you will find that it is not installed. The Moto X comes with the Android calendar and not the Google calendar which is what is odd to me.

I definitely only disabled the android calendar. I have no idea what's up with it. I also wish they had merged (i.e. deleted) the old calendar when they sent the OTA.

I disabled the Android calendar and installed the Google Calendar app on my stock/unrooted Moto X (VZW). Google Calendar doesn't work and now I can't even find the stock calendar in apps to enable it.
Yep, having the same problem... seems like I can only use the stock calendar app. Pretty annoying.

You can re-enable in under Settings->Apps->Disabled tab (far right)
Yes this is very strange, why would they leave the lesser of 2 still hanging around....especially in Kitkat.
Also, make sure under settings, Google, that calender sync is still check marked.
I've had this problem on multiple builds and it drove me crazy. To fix it go to Settings > Apps > All and select Calendar Storage, then clear data. Either calendar should work without issue after doing this.
Here is how I got it to work. Disable Calender in settings>apps>all. Next go to Calender Storage in settings>apps>all. Force stop Calender Storage and clear data. After that install the Google Calender from the play store if you haven't already. Finally, reboot and it should sync with your Google accounts.

Pretty much, except when I just cleared data it still didn't work properly. That's why I had to go through a few extra steps.

When I did it I already had Google Calendar installed from the Play Store and I hadn't disabled the stock Calendar. I've also done it with the stock Calendar removed and only the Google Calendar from the Play Store installed and it worked.
I don't think that disabling the stock Calendar before clearing Calendar Storage data or rebooting afterwards is necessary - at least it wasn't for me, but I never tried it with only the stock calendar installed (I hate the stock calendar!). You might need to go to your account sync settings and uncheck + recheck the Calendar sync to force a sync, but this should happen on its own regardless.

Had to look for an answer to this, since my S3 with the new KitKat wouldn't work. This did the trick, thanks.
Anyone else having issues where the Google Calendar isn't syncing? In my account settings, the option to sync Google Calendar isn't even listed. I've got App Data, Hangouts, People Details, etc, but nothing about the Calendar. I use the Google Calendar app exclusively, never tried the LG one and hated the Samsung one on my previous phone. I am currently rooted.
Already tried:
Removing Google Calendar and reinstalling.
Removing Google account and re-adding.
Rebooted
Shut down and powered back on
Works here. Did you select it as one of the calendars to sync?

It's not an option for me to select. There is no calendar in the Account Settings and in the Calendar app itself, it is not listed. When I click add calendar, it just sits there with a spinning wheel and does nothing.
Works fine for me.
When you go under your Google Account settings uncheck the Google Calendar sync then recheck it...... that helps sometime.
As was already mentioned twice, that option does not exist for me on my phone. There is no option under Google Account settings to even select the calendar as something to sync. It's just not there at all.
I believe I had a similar problem a few years ago and the issue was the calendar was corrupted in the account. I think the solution was to log into gmail via a browser and copy or make a new calendar. Google search the issue and you should be able to get more exact instructions.

I think you can get it back by adding a second "dummy" account and letting it sync. It's recommended to be on data when doing so.

Well, I ended up doing the full factory unroot process (basic rebuild from factory ROM file). Irritating as it is, my Google calendar now syncs. I'm not sure what was causing it not to, but there it is.
I just had to re-enter a bunch of appointments on my google calender because they ended up previously on this other calendar (which seems to be phone only, so perhaps it's an Xperia thing, or maybe it's a hangover from some other system I've used in the past, although I doubt it because i've not logged into any other calendar systems on my Z3).
I can disable it from within the google calender app, so hopefully it would cause any more trouble, but I'd like to get rid of it. I've disabled the original (sony?) calender app but it's not removed this option.
Does anyone else have this? You can see it by running the Google calendar app and dragging the left edge of the screen right. You can remove it from here in settings, but it's still available in settings. I want it gone!

I have the same problem. Tried deleting and reopening to no avail. Contemplating deleting my google account altogether and starting from scratch.
Calendar has recently been chewing a lot of battery on my Z3C, and I've noticed that I also now have a syncml-orphaned calendar appearing. Anyone else found this in recent times?
Has this been solved? One year later I still have the same problem, even on newer Sony Xperia phones
Well, I think I have found a way: Using TitaniumBackup I have performed WIPE DATA on Calendar Storage and Calendar. This has fixed the syncml-orphaned problem for me.
Of course, for this to work you have to have Root.

This worked for me without TitaniumBackup:
Clear data of the app ‘Calendar Storage’. As this is a system app, you need to activate ‘Show system’ in the app list.

Thanks man!!!! It worked.
I just recently got my replacement nexus 5 phone and updated it to lollipop. But now my contacts and facebook has been creating an error when either one is open. It says "android.process.acore" has stopped. Search and tried methods like clearing contact storage cache and data, but still had the error. The last ting i want to do is factory reset cause I hate redoing all the accounts and redownloading the apps. Is there anyway of fixing the problem?
Also is it just me or does the phone turn to "None" mode at 10 P.M. automatically. Is there anyway to stop that?
For you None issue go to settings/sound and notifications/interruptions. And set the down time to none. No ideas on the other error

But for the down time thing I had the time changed to like 12 but it still goes to none at 10 that's why I find it so weird.
The only way I was able to get the android.process.acore error to go away was to delete the FB app. I open up a thread in their help forums about it and have yet to see any response.

Yeah I did that too. But its so annoying since majority of the games these days is tied in with facebook. It's either you need online to play or for those that don't need online to play its synced to either facebook or google.

I don't sync games to facebook, but that does suck. I'm thinking it is some way that facebook is trying to use the contacts. Or that there is some data in our contacts that doesn't mesh well when facebook is added into the contacts mix. I have even gone through and deleted old htc facebook tags in my contacts. I'm stumped.

Yup, hit the nail on the head!
This has to be a contact storage issue.
I wonder if this has anything to do with certain phones being able to sync the fb contacts to the phone contacts, and others require a third party app to integrate the fb and phone contacts? I remember I used one on KK with Xposed. Did you use anything like that on KK?

I Just looked at this Xposed repo and saw something interesting.
http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.dr8.xposed.xfbsync
This has been tested on CM11 4.4.4 Nightly from 06-19-14, but it should work on older CM/AOSP releases as well. Most OEM builds from HTC, Samsung, LG, Sony, etc don't require this, as they modify the ContactsProvider themselves to allow Facebook syncing.

Maybe the fb app is trying to force a change in contactsprovider.apk that is causing this?

i have been testing the following apps:
huawaei email app
yahoo mail
outlook mail
gmx mail app on huawei app gallery
aquamail app on huawei app gallery
bluemail app on huawei app gallery (still has google push warning)
the only reliable & instant notifications are with yahoo mail app and microG installed.
... but now microG is causing problems with whatsapp and I cannot use whatsapp due to a google play services error
my conclusion .. is at this time .. there is no instant & reliable email notifications for gmail and outlook without using GMS (at least via microG).
I use Fairemail (also available via Fdroid) and am pretty happy with it (with and without Google services)

Aqua Mail works fine for me using Gmail. Notifications are very reliable once the relevant battery optimisations are turned off. Check your config.
Microsoft Outlook works fine on my P40 Pro. no problem with notifications.
I am using the stock android email client with no issues with notifications for my Gmail account.
Bluemail is working nicely and allow all types of accounts.
Gmail is also working but I use Autosync account activator app.

I installed Gms the first day I received the device using the Greek you tube video.
As already told, nearly all Google apps are working, including maps, fotos, YouTube and even Google pay.
Only issues remaining are some bank apps (not all), and notifications for all apps using Google cloud messaging.
I then installed Bluemail and received mail notifications from Gmail and other exchange accounts.
Using Autosync account activator app I know receive also notifications from Gmail app.
Regarding Netflix, its working but not available in Playstore, had to install it via Aurora store.

Interested in the part bolded above. My assumption is that the notification issues are the same irrespective of whether you install GPS or not? e.g.You install GPS to get the missing apps such as Photos, Google pay etc but you will still be left with no notifications for almost all apps.
It is the lack of notifications that are starting to really bother me, pretty much all I have workling are outlook, sms and whatsapp. Messenger lite too works on and off. I thought I would be ok with that but I really am not!

thanks .. any chance you have tested skype (full version) notifications with GMS?
some people are testing without GMS, or without microG .. so it is a bit confusing to compare results!
These are the steps from that thread. The thing is I think these are not really the steps as to get it really working properly you need to add the full playstore install instructions to step 4. At least I think that is the case? i.e. It will not work properly if you just go the fakestore route?
1. Reset mobile phone
2. Install Services Core
3: install Services Framework Proxy
4: either install the real AppStore with the Lila app or install the store (FakeStore release)
5: start and set MicroG. Now create all the accounts you need (no longer possible afterwards),
restart your phone and install your apps.
My concern going any of these routes is many of the files scan as a virus e.g. for the full GPS method the step files are fine but the backup ones at the start return multiple positives, likewise for the above the fakestore app also scans as a virus. I get these are modified files etc etc but given the purpose of doing all of this is to then enter credentials and use payment apps it does give me some pause for thought.

1. I have not heard of anyone suggesting microG as a Google Play Store solution for Huawei. I thought we were just talking about using microG for notifications and you only need the fakestore for that.
2. Reset mobile phone step is optional ... just install apps after install of microG in order to register into microG google cloud messaging.
3. microG has been around for a long time, used in many ROMS, and open source .... I do not think you need to worry entering your google credentials to use for microG for notifications.

1. yes .. that's what I did and it worked fine. ... after testing and some success (but not perfect) .. then i did a reset and started from scratch (but after testing again after the reset, it did nothing different) .. still a few successes and a few fails.
2. oh ok.
Could be a false positive as just the one positive hit for AdWare.AndroidOS.ekdy whereas the full GPS approach backup (stuff in Huawei/Backup folder) files triggered multiple positives.

either way .. it doesn't worry me at all .. wouldn't surprise me if it is a positive hit .. it is obviously not a legitimate service .. but like i said before, microG has been around for years, installed hundreds of thousands of times in ROMs, open source, etc.
