Hey guys.
I am on the latest build of cyanogen and it was working fantastic! Then suddenly my phone started doing random reboots and they are becoming quiet frequent. Any ideas on how to fix this?
If undervolting, stop. Otherwise, change kernel and or ROM.

Quiet a hard process to do on a nexus 5 considering no SD card slot. Also this never happened till I updated to a nightly so I downgraded and it is still hapening. Also I was actually looking to overvolt rather then undervolt but the battery capabilities are to poor so I gave up. Never touched clock speeds

Head over to your custom recovery.. Format system, wipe cache/dalvic and flash the new rom.zip followed by gapps.zip. Done!
If the new rom you're trying uses the same base as the current rom you're on, a dirty flash will also do the job!
It should be one of the advanced recovery options if you're using CM.

What about for cwm recovery? I am a little lazy at the moment to in install another recovery and from the looks of it wiping specific parts of the SD are not possible correct? Would just dirty reflashing cyanogen fix the problem?

What about it?? Formatting system and wiping cache/dalvic are included in all recoveries.. (TWRP, PhilzTouch and CWM)..
Yes, you can wipe your internal sdcard with a recovery but only if you tell it to do :silly: Doing the above 3 things I mentioned won't touch the internal sd for sure.
How would we know?? Try dirty flashing cyanogen and see if it helps.. If it doesn't, you know what to do.
OK so I reflashed cyanogenmod after wiping dalvik and system and I am still randomly rebooting but a little less often. Any ideas?

I also get random reboots on cyan from 8/25 and from 7/25. The reboots only start once I enter the performance settings, even though I leave my CPU settings all stock. Its a glitch that is triggered by performance for me.

Hi, I was on CleanRom 5.1, flashed to ViperXL 3.1, but then I flashed back to CleanRom, and now my phone wont boot pass the "X" nexus logo. I hold down "power+volume", but it restarted the phone and repeated the same boot loop. What can I do to solve this? Thank you very much.
Did you full wipe?
1. Did you unlock your bootloader?
2. Power off your phone completely, and then hit the power+volume keys to turn it on and into recovery, sometimes it works better that way
Deleted read again just full wipe
Ok. I got it to boot into recover mode. FYI, my HBoot is 1.09. I can't find the Custom Roms file on my phone any more. What can i do to install a custom rom now?

TWRP 2.3.1 - Format the SD and transferring Rom to SD. How do I flash the boot.img via fastboot?
What i always do and dont even care about if im flashing the same rom or a new is this:
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Wipe System / Dalvik Cache / Cache
Flash boot.img
Flash ROM
Flash Gapps
Wipe Cache / Dalvik Cache
Reboot
It doesnt take you a lot of time and its going to work prety much every single time
You don't have to you're on hboot 1.09 ...but in clean roms aroma make sure you say to install boot img
well thats the point with all the roms that are out there haha you clean everything, always flash the boot.img, so you will never have to worry about if its gonna bootloop because of a different kernel or another file from another rom, the peace of mind of knowning your device its fully clean, besides it takes like 10 seconds more to do that
tried it again and it worked! thank you all!

If you are on hboot<1.14, boot.img will be flashed automatically. So I agree that flashing boot.img "just in case" is pointless.
System always gets wiped when flashing the ROM, so again it doesn't need to be done separately.

Unless you have a corrupt hboot, not being able to get into hboot is almost always a matter of pilot error.
People simply don't get the button sequence right. Hold volume down and keep holding it. Press power button for 3 seconds and release. Or if its stuck powered on on the splash screen, press power until the capacitive keys flash and the phone reboots. Keep holding volume down rocker until white hboot screen comes up. I think most people think you release power and vol down at the same time.
From what I understand it is just security fixes and no bug fixes? Is it worth flashing a new ROM for? I am on 4.4.3 right now and it is running pretty smooth.

If you're on the stock ROM I don't see why you're even hesitant to simply flash the new factory images.
If you're on a custom ROM it'll get updated in a day or so, if not, then already.
Everything will run smooth regardless unless you mess up something really badly..

I dirty flash my new builds over my old almost daily and nothing bad has come out of it. The only reasons you would really need to clean flash is to start fresh, test out a new ROM, jump a whole android version (4.4.3 to 4.4.4 is minor.. I mean like Jellybean to KitKat), or if something isn't working properly.

You'll just have to go into Xposed Installer and install the framework again, your stuff will stay.
Seeing as KangaKat is hardly a custom ROM and more of just a few minor mods on the stock ROM with Xposed thrown on top of it (lol).. I doubt you'll run into any issues.
As always, make a backup just in case.

what kind of a question is this?
Ask yourself: Is security something that matters for you? If not well its not worth.

I have rooted my OnePlus One a few days back. There was an update to 11.0-XNPH30O. When I hit the install button, it redirects me to the Team Win recovery mode. Then when I hit reboot, system. It still says "An update is available for your system" Do I have to flash a newer ROM? I'm sorry, I am really new to this as this is my first android phone, what are the precautions and pre-requisites I have to do? Will this wipe my phone? Do I have to manually wipe it? I'm sorry for these questions..

Did you check the current build on the phone, because there are two OTA's (one major and one minor). if you see 30O build on your about settings and yet you see an update available it is the small update. if you are still on 25R go to developer options and uncheck "update CM recovery" and try to do the OTA update again.

No you dont have to wipe anything(if you are on stock 25R), all apps and settings will be intact. Also did you make any changes like to mixer xml or lockscreen or anything else? you have to revert back to old ones or else the installation will fail.

I don't think so, but I did install nova theme and widgets, franco.kernel, smoothscrolling mod, and the 1+Volume Increase, will this affect anything? Thanks.

I have read it but it kind of confuses me a bit.
I have already flashed the META-INF.zip, so I'm guessing all the mods I put should be gone now.
Now I'm wondering, can I just transfer the cm-bacon-d22b777afa-to-0428073396-signed.zip (113mb file) to the phone and install it using TeamWin? After I reboot and power off/and power back on. then transfer the cm-bacon-0428073396-to-4f280f505a-signed.zip (8.12mb file) to the phone and install it using TeamWin.
Will this work too? Thank you for helping, really means a lot.

Before you do anything Take a Nandroid back up, so that if anything goes bad you can just restore.
OK. Just download this zip and flash it using TWRP(since the post says you can do it without sideload).
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BzgUrWZ7XZ0rcDA2YVZLZUY0YkU/edit
after this is flashed just reboot the device and go to developer options uncheck "update CM recovery" then go to "about" and look for update and it will be installed with no problems.
****NOTE****
If you run into a bootloop. Wipe both caches and try flashing again. If you get any FC then try setting permissions with another cache wipe.

1. Depending on your device, and your app set up, it will make your device run smoother. But then there's ak kernel too. ak has more options and you have to tweak your own set up. Franco has his set up built into the kernel already to make it run optimized.

You need to flash the latest franco again. Mahdi flashes it's stock kernel.

Kernels need to set in on your device. Give it a few hours. Also sometimes smoothness doesn't have to be felt, but how a piece of software runs is how efficient it is.

hmm now iam thinking its fixed just because its back to its original kernel again, you sure that if i flash franco now it will be good?
lets say it wont, will i be able to just flash mahdi 2.8 again, and fix it again?

It's because of the old commits in the previous Mahdi releases. The kernel has the latest commits and the ROM was not updated for it. The one you downloaded was 09/03 version but the commit was weeks after 3rd of Sept, requiring a ROM update. Now that you have the latest, you won't experience any of these issues again.
alright, reflashing franco r21( also wiping cache/dalvik hopefully i need to do it again)
will edit in a sec.
edit: its good now =]
thanks ALOT for all your help!
Hey folks; I'm hoping I can get some advice or pointers, or maybe just a slap upside the head with something I've missed.
I have one of the original Shield tablets, and played around with it quite a lot, installing various custom ROMs from the marvelous directions I've found here. When the battery thing happened, I submitted the required info and happily received my new tablet. The original was rooted and customised still, kill-switch averted, and I had two working tablets. I gave the new stock one to my wife.
But then, about three months ago, I was playing with mine again installing a newer ROM than the one I was using (I *think* I was going from an older Bliss rom to one of the Cyanogen), and ... Something Happened (tm). The tablet rebooted in the middle of everything, and now won't boot to an image.
I'm on Windows 10 now, and had some fun getting the drivers working, but they seem to. I can communicate with the tablet through Fastboot, but ADB doesn't see it. I've flashed several versions of TWRP to the tablet, and can boot into that recovery - both through Fastboot and the tablet's power+vol-dn buttons. I've used TWRP to flash several different ROMs, and it *appears* to work (there are no errors), but when I reboot the tablet .... nada. Nothing but the Nvidia boot screen for days.
So now... what have I missed? I'm a little reluctant to flash a stock ROM, but I'm at a loss. I used to have more time to fiddle and figure, and I'm afraid that my impatience is going to kill the thing.
Format system and data see if that works
You need to have the latest bootloader to run the latest roms.

I've tried the latest and the not-so-latest, all with similar results.

so you wan t your "burning" tablet set again stock?
Did you read about "recovery images" for shield tablet?
If fastboot is working you can flash the recovery image and all will update to the latest(blob, system, boot, etc)
flash latest twrp for shieldtablet.
after that use the nomoreota.zip to prevent the software brick from nvidida

Also format data system to something other than ext4 then re format it back

No, I don't want it stock at all, I was just worried that was my only option to get this thing to respond again. I was running BlissPop v.somethingorother, but wanted to update. That's when things went awry.
Right, well it looks like I've got this thing going. I could flash TWRP 3.1.0-0, but not any 3.1.1. Cyanogenmod 12 worked. Reading up a little more (it got slow at work for a couple of days...) I flashed the firmware to 5.0, and could now install TWRP 3.1.1-1! Then I could install (in this case) Lineage 14.1, which *almost* worked. It booted, but there's no wifi.
Then I found a suggestion - I think it was on these forums somewhere - and restarted. Wiped all data again, flashed Cyanogenmod 12, no gapps. Restarted, checked everything including wifi, and is good. Rebooted back into recovery, performed a factory reset, then installed Lineage 14.1 and gapps. When it rebooted, everything is working!
So. Firmware. Huh.
Thanks all.

do not know if you need the bootloader(blob) from nougat to boot up, that lafester told you. but that sounds plausible. skooter says something from re-formating. so if you tried that all and nothing changes? cache and data partition you wiped also, so it has to be work for my understanding.
went always stock, so can t help you..
but you can use recovery images > twrp > bliss/linage. no need to boot up stock?
