new to android,
got a few questions regarding franco kernel
1. should i install franco kernel? iam seeing that pretty much everyone is using it.will just installing it improve battery life? or do i also need to mess with clocks( which i rather not do)
2. using mahdi rom, will it work with it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/orig-development/kernel-franco-kernel-r1-t2800871
3. also i would need to download from the link that says: "for aosp roms" right?
4. in the link above it just says flash it, but in this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guides-bacon-timmaaas-how-to-guides-t2839471 , in part 6, it says also wipe cache/dalvik, so should i wipe or not?
thanks in advance to all helpers =P

1. Depending on your device, and your app set up, it will make your device run smoother. But then there's ak kernel too. ak has more options and you have to tweak your own set up. Franco has his set up built into the kernel already to make it run optimized.
2. Yes

exactly as those steps mentioned on mahdi's page?
Upgrading from an earlier version: (not recommended)
- Copy the ROM ZIP to your SDCard
- Boot into Recovery
- Flash the ROM zip from SDCard
- Reboot

You need to flash the latest franco again. Mahdi flashes it's stock kernel.

Kernels need to set in on your device. Give it a few hours. Also sometimes smoothness doesn't have to be felt, but how a piece of software runs is how efficient it is.

hmm now iam thinking its fixed just because its back to its original kernel again, you sure that if i flash franco now it will be good?
lets say it wont, will i be able to just flash mahdi 2.8 again, and fix it again?

It's because of the old commits in the previous Mahdi releases. The kernel has the latest commits and the ROM was not updated for it. The one you downloaded was 09/03 version but the commit was weeks after 3rd of Sept, requiring a ROM update. Now that you have the latest, you won't experience any of these issues again.
alright, reflashing franco r21( also wiping cache/dalvik hopefully i need to do it again)
will edit in a sec.
edit: its good now =]
thanks ALOT for all your help!

From what I understand it is just security fixes and no bug fixes? Is it worth flashing a new ROM for? I am on 4.4.3 right now and it is running pretty smooth.

If you're on the stock ROM I don't see why you're even hesitant to simply flash the new factory images.
If you're on a custom ROM it'll get updated in a day or so, if not, then already.
Everything will run smooth regardless unless you mess up something really badly..

I dirty flash my new builds over my old almost daily and nothing bad has come out of it. The only reasons you would really need to clean flash is to start fresh, test out a new ROM, jump a whole android version (4.4.3 to 4.4.4 is minor.. I mean like Jellybean to KitKat), or if something isn't working properly.

You'll just have to go into Xposed Installer and install the framework again, your stuff will stay.
Seeing as KangaKat is hardly a custom ROM and more of just a few minor mods on the stock ROM with Xposed thrown on top of it (lol).. I doubt you'll run into any issues.
As always, make a backup just in case.

what kind of a question is this?
Ask yourself: Is security something that matters for you? If not well its not worth.
Creating a thread for this seams pointless.

You can extract the zip and flash the system, kernel, radio, and cache partitions separately using fastboot without overwriting your data partition.

How do I exactly flash those individually? I've used the guide in your signature before but thats to flash everything back to stock. Im not familiar with the commands to type, or maybe theres like a 4.4.4 with those mentioned that can be flashed via TWRP ?

You won't lose any data, just flash the 4.4.4 zip in your custom recovery. Don't wipe cache or dalvik. The zip can be found here.

OK guys let me tell you about my issue's
I'm using TWRP 2.7.1.0 (Tried 2.7.0.2 no difference) S-off, Unlocked, latest firmware from Santods files. The phone works fine with Sense ROMS but for the life of me I can't flash a GPE ROM. They fail every time. Santod tried to help me out the best he could by having me replace the Boot.img from the ROM I was flashing thinking that I was on a secure Boot image (And I may be but I replaced it and they still won't flash). Mr. Jaydee82 also modified a ROM for me to try out (although I'm not sure exactly what he did to it) and it wouldn't Flash properly either. When I try to flash these ROMs it will appear to flash properly and then they will go to the bootscreen and just sit there and churn. Depending on the ROM some will time out and power down the device and some will just sit there forever until I do a virtual battery pull. I'm freaking desperate to find out what is going on with this device and I don't feel right bugging Santod so I decided to post this in hope of more ideas about what could possibly be going on with my device. Any and all help greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks!

I used Firewater I'm able to Flash all of the Sense ROM's not sure if they are considered AOSP. Give me an example of one and I'll try it. I'm not 100% sure if I took the OTA update before I Rooted and S-offed/unlocked the device but I think I did. I Flashed Santods Nobootimg firmware via ADB to be sure I was on the latest firmware. I know my radios were up to date before doing this but I wasn't sure about the FW so I flashed it. Flashed fine, didn't need to flush again, flashed fine first time.

Yeah cm11 is what I'm currently using, it recently had a speakerphone issue but its been fixed since 7/30. The only AOSP ROMs that have incorporated the fix are cm11, liquidsmooth & aokp. Here is the section for all the aosp ROMs they are universal so means 1 zip for all HTC One M8 variants.

I dont have root. To take this one i have to?
Sorry, have been busy lately.
As of today, you will have two options:
You can use the version vanir_bacon_5.0.0.120214.zip that will have working root buildin but a permissive SELinux (and therefore there is some risk of something invading your system) or you can use the version vanir_bacon_5.0.0.120214.enforced.zip and install SuperSU afterwards...

You can try without wiping data: just wipe system, dalvik and cache partitions, flash your ROM, flash gapps, reboot.
for everyone who wants to change the settings for the notification bar weather: just add a "cLock" widget and set everything up there. :good:

No need to apologize. Everyone was a noob once. I think you'll have to wait until the developer updates xposed to work with ART. I can't imagine it'll be long. If you search XDA you might even find a thread.

Upon further research, it is confirmed that Vanir ROM does NOT include any modem files. Sorry for the previous misinformation.
I just flashed it and got caught in a bootloop I turned it off but it finally booted because (and I dont know the reasoning behind how it works, I just know it worked) I booted into fastboot and then reboot it that way and it works.
EDIT: It only works when you have a usb plugged and when you unplug it it reboots.
Will flashing a new kernel like AK fix this problem?

Yeah I came from stock and wiped everything. The Rom would only run if usb debugging was enabled and when I tried to reboot into recovery, it wouldnt let me unless i selected recovery from the power menu, then waited until the twrp logo showed up, then unplugged it. Otherwise it would just reboot into the rom
Latest vanir has a kernel that needs latest firmware to work.
Our Exodus has a kernel that works with normal firmware so you might want to use this.
And you should maybe stay away from CM's new firmware as we got informed that at least find7 seems to hardbrick with the newest firmware and find7 is very close to bacon...

NEW THINGS ARE COMING. KEEP AN EYE OUT.
Hello!
I have taken the system.img and boot.img from the flashable zip for 20f that @autoprime made and made a ROM base. It is prerooted, deodexed, has busybox, and has support for ArchiDroid Init.d (basically Init.d found in the ROM, not the kernel). It should be ready to flash as is, but a more experienced dev may want to look through my updater-script. It was created using ArchiKitchen (Busybox and ArchiDroid Init.d) and JoelDroid Batch Deodexer (Deodex system apps, priv-apps, and framework). Please flash with caution. I believe everything is kosher, but I haven't attempted to flash it myself. Just like with autoprime's flashable zip, please flash the modem before flashing this if you are upgrading from KitKat. Feel free to use this as your ROM base, just give me credit if you use it.
It's been pointed out to me that I didn't mention whether it was debloated or not. I ran the archi and romcleaner debloat scripts found in ArchiKitchen on it. I am not sure if this wiped the at&t specific apps or not. I also believe Carrier IQ is still enabled. I wasn't sure how to clean Carrier IQ out.
The Q&A thread is here. Not sure why it isn't accessible from the bar at the top like usual.
Instructions for flashing:
REMEMBER TO MAKE A BACKUP!
1a. If coming for KitKat or AOSP Lollipop ROM, wipe data/facory reset and wipe system.
1b. If already on stock Lollipop, dirty flash SHOULD be ok.
2. Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache (optional).
3. If coming from KitKat, flash updated modem for 20f.
4. Flash ROM.
5. Rewipe Cache and Dalvik Cache (optional).
6. Reboot to system.
To fix issues with xposed, after flashing the xposed zip, download and flash the zip here to stop the Force closes. Alternatively you can freeze quick circle and the weather widget apps prior to flashing xposed.

I ran the ArchiKitchen debloat scripts on it, but I'm not sure what all it killed off. I completely forgot to check that. Sorry. Will make a note on the OP.
sick a new stock rom, any extra added tweaks added to it?

Not really. I'm not a true dev per say. I just set this up as a base for other devs to use. got the basic stuff out of the way. As I mentioned in the OP. I haven't flashed this yet, so exercise caution when flashing. Everything should be fine, but it does include the boot.img, so if everything isn't proper, it may be bad. Either way, if you decide to flash, please make a backup before and keep the KitKat restore file readily available.

Well good work anywyas, though im not going to flash till some one tries it out first. I dont want to go through headaches if it doesnt flash correctly. Also Im glad we have a new developer, just keep learning and add great stuff to this rom if u figure out. Good luck

I've been around for a while now. Attempted several large projects, but usually ran out of time. As such, I generally only deodex and such for other devs to use, but if I can find the time, I will definitely try to expand this. I will also post a truly debloated version at some point. I might attempt to flash it soon. It only affects system and boot.img, so if the boot.img is set to extract to the proper block (I checked against my own D850 for the proper mount block), everything should go fine.
i will flash and see wish me good luck..Lol
keeps boring into twrp
Tried flashing this and kept on booting into to recovery.

I did warn that it was untested and that I would prefer if someone checked through my stuff first. I will look in to fixing the issues as soon as I can. Any way someone can get a Logcat?
Sounds like a boot image issue.

TekGadgt. Thanks for doing this. I look forward to a working release.
This same issue happened when folks with a custom recovery tried to take the ota for Stock Lollipop. I wonder if the same fix for that will work here.

That's odd and somewhat unlikely, since I flashed the exact same one from autoprimes system.img and boot.img. Did everyone that flashed upload their modem as well? And did everyone wipe properly?

I gave this a shot and it did hang at the LG logo with blinking l.e.d. a little longer, but still returned to recovery
Hey there peoples of the internet...
Saw this right after it hit frontpage, but nothing has popped up [in the forums] informing users about it.
So... I'm just going to leave this here

Please keep us posted. I'm very curious how this runs.
So far it's running good...works with the Linux upstream kernel for Los...installed Google camera with magisk mod no problem
Have to flash Gapps but that's easy, and yea...some themes don't wanna work with the system UI so try at your own risk...but for the first 2 hours it seems really good

Had this problem too. Tried flashing multiple gapps a plethora of different ways and was not ever able to get play store installed. I gave up and went back to stock

You have to use a dd command from the terminal in twrp
dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/boot_a/b of=/sdcard/boot.img
Please replace the (a/b) with the slot that the rom flashed to

Do I see in those screenshots that CarbonROM has OTA updates?
I loved CarbonROM back in the Good Old Days.
