hey can someone help me? i just got the 33R OTA update and then I tried applying the update and it installs fine. the only problem is that when i reboot it, it gets stuck on the boot logo. people have told me to wait a bit after applying the update but I had my phone sitting there for 30 minutes and it never reached the boot animation.
Ive followed multiple ways to update the OTA. Ive tried sideloading, applying through TWRP, and the OTA. all have used wiping the cache.
I am currently on 30O and rooted unlocked. I had this problem with the 30O OTA and I had to factory reset everything to get the update. Does anyone know what could be causing my phone to not boot after an update?

Hello, I'm having the same problem. I'm running a 33R stock one that is stuck on the bootloader. Is there a way to fix this without rooting the one? Thanks in advance.

Nope, the only way to resolve it is by unlocking the bootloader and flashing a custom recovery to sideload.

I've never rooted before. Can you recommed a guide for this problem that I have. All the guides I've seen say I need to enable debugging and I can't access the phone so I don't know how to do it. If I use fastboot and plug in via USB would that do the trick?

Fastboot doesn't require usb debugging to be turned on. Just go to the guide in my signature and you'll be golden.

Thank you so much. Last question, if I do follow your guide while I void the warranty? I filed a claim with OP letting them know about my problem. I don't know if its better to wait to hear what they tell me which may take forever from what I've read online. I'm so glad I came here for help. Thanks again.

No, unlocking your bootloader and rooting your device doesn't void your warranty with OnePlus.

I had a similar issue when I was rooting my phone and I had to clear the cache through fastboot ADB to get past the boot logo.

However i'm wondering what people recommend in keeping root when taking an OTA update.
Thanks for any advice.

SuperSU has a "survival" mode you can check off. It basically tries to keep root after an update. Luckily its easy enough to re-root the One+.

I'm guessing you used a toolkit to unlock and root, right? If you haven't done it already, download SuperSU from here:
http://download.chainfire.eu/452/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip
Then you can flash it using the install menu in TWRP recovery.

Of course it works. Also guys TWRP will try and reroot your phone a well after a flash if it detects you lost root. Not for nothing but some of you need to do more reading before you street messing with your phones and leave them toolkits alone.

@playya alright mate got my one plus one now. unlocked bootloader installed twrp and flashed super su. disabled update cm recovery on update. then did update from 22r - 25r then did 25r - 30O and obviously 30O - 33r I didn't realise that the update cm recovery would not stick after each update. so ive now tried to reflash twrp but command line says writing recovery ok and finished but checked on phone and its not there? any ideas do I need to unlock bootloader again which I doubt. but not sure if flashing update would also relock?? cheers

If you have root and a custom recovery you shouldn't be taking an OTA in the first place.
I'm rooted and have S-off and have twrp for my recovery and the OTA downloaded to my phone and set it to update in a couple hours and im wondering if this is going to mess anything up if it updates? Im completely stock btw. If it is going to mess my root/s-off is there any way to stop it other than installing a rom?

I just got done flashing the new OTA. I kept S-Off and bootloader unlock. In order to do this, you will need to flash stock recovery.
Flash stock recovery
Download 4.4.3 OTA in About > Software update > Check new
Install update
Reboot
Boot into bootlader and flash TWRP 2.8
Root
Just make sure you're S-Off and bootloader unlocked before you take the new OTA.

You won't be able to flash the OTA with a custom recovery. You have to have un-modified stock ROM and stock recovery.

OTA hanging with stock recovery
I have reverted back to stock recovery (file downloaded from the link in this threat) but the OTA is still not working. After downloading, the update begins and I see the small icon of the phone with a green update symbol (two circular arrows). The green progress bar starts up, but then in a minute, it stops and the screen immediately jumps back to the stock recovery screen (phone icon with red triangle and exclamation point).
The process has run three times with the same result.
Can someone verify the md5sum of the stock_recovery.img file is d296a9a7289e10b2f04983e07409ee6c
Any ideas?

Not being on a completely unmodified stock HTC ROM is usually the case. Other than that this worked for me with no issues.

Hello everyone.
Two hours ago I received the notification about the Android 5.0 update. I downloaded it and hit "Install". Then, "TeamWin" started, but not the update. I rebooted into System and tried to update again - but it tells me that 4.4.4 is the latest version I can get now. I'm on Build KTU84P now.
1) Do I need to remove TeamWin? If yes, with what?
2) How can I start the update again? I'm on a super slow connection and it would hurt to download the 500 MB again…
Thank you!

You need to remove TeamWin, and load up your stock recovery. I don't have the exact instructions for this unfortunately.
The OTA update will come back to your phone soon, usually. Did for me within the hour.
The issue I am having now, back with stock recovery, is during the install I am getting a dead Android error icon, and can't continue. Looking for any help I can, and hopefully it will help you too.

Gosh, this used to be so easy all the time.

Trying to remove the root right now via SuperSU. I am hopeful it will work better afterwards.
Edit: SuperSU unrooted it, rebooted, did OTA again, error again. Is there no way to find out what this error is?
I stupidly tried to use Chainfires root method on my pixel by flashing boot-to-root.img. I am now stuck in a bootloop and I have no idea how to fix it. I can get into the fastboot page I think it is called by holding the volume down and power buttom. How can I fix this? Sorry if it is a dumb question. I tried using adb but don't know how it works and I get the error 'error: device '(null)' not found' when trying to do 'adb reboot bootloader'.
I really appreciate if anyone can help me. I am freaking out

Try downloading the stock image and installing that from fastboot. If you are on a Verizon one and on 7.1.1 you are out of luck for root if you bootloader isn't unlocked.

Ok, stop freaking, this is very fixable. Assuming you have the Google version, or the Verizon version unlocked.
Short answer, we are going to get it into fastboot mode and we are going to flash you back to stock and probably save your data.
First, we need to make sure you have the correct version of Fastboot/ADB. It must be from GOOGLE.
https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools.html
Unzip that onto a spot on your desktop.
Then go here and download the latest image for the Pixel. I am assuming you are in the US, get 7.1.1 (NOF26V, Feb 2017) for the Pixel.
https://developers.google.com/android/images#sailfish
Unzip that into a the Platform folder you made above with the fastboot tools. When you are all done it should look like the picture below. The highlighted items are the items that came from the Factory Image you extracted in step two. Everything else is from the platform tools.
Now RIGHT click 'flash-all.bat' and edit it. Near the end...look for the -w and take it out and save it. Removing that is what is going to save your data.
Power down your phone, restart it in bootloader mode. Power and Vol Down. Connect it to your computer and then double click 'flash-all.bat'.
That will take you back to stock unlocked and all your data and settings will be there.
Get past that and let us know. Then we will get you properly rooted. Yea, you used the wrong root process.
I love you <3
Thank you so much. I stupidly was trying to flash a file that wasn't an image file! I really appreciate your help man I don't know what I'd do if it wasn't for you.

Do you have a link to rooting with TWRP? I've found several rooting posts but most talk about rooting via fastboot.
Thanks!

No link handy, but here is how I do it. And yes, it is via fastboot, only way I know of at this point.
Download 2.7.9 SR3 SuperUser and copy it to your phone.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/2014-09-02-supersu-v2-05-t2868133
Download TWRP RC1 and copy it to your fastboot folder.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/development/twrp-alpha1-pixel-devices-t3500312
Using other versions than above will bootloop you. Reboot the phone into bootloader mode. Power and Vol down.
fastboot BOOT twrpFilename.img Where twrpfilename.img is the name of the TWRP file you just downloaded. Note is says boot in the command, not flash.
That will boot the phone into TWRP. Select Install and install the SU zip you copied to the phone above. And reboot the phone, done.
Thanks! That worked.
I need help with unlocking bootloader and rooting phone

I have completed the steps that you listed however the phone did not do a thing. Is it not possible to unlock the bootloader on 7.1.2? Am I doing something wrong? I can elaborate more if you need.

If it is a Verizon phone, no you can't unlock it. If it is a Google phone to unlock...below is a decent link on how to. Except use the ADB Fastboot tools I link to in the third post of this thread.
https://android.gadgethacks.com/how-to/unlock-bootloader-your-google-pixel-pixel-xl-0174627/
And be aware, when you unlock it...it will wipe all the data on your phone.
My pixel (stock, not rooted) is boot looping after the May OTA updates. Google support says to take it back to the store as it's still under warranty. Would the above fix work for my phone? Is it worth it, or should I just get a new one? This is already my second pixel as the first one died abruptly after 3 months.

Is the bootloader unlocked? If so I would certainly try flashing stock first. It can't hurt, and moments ago my Nexus 6 that I keep for backup was doing the same thing after the OTA. I just reflashed stock and it is fine now.

I think so, but am not 100% sure. Was bought unlocked from a retail shop. (Sorry, am a bit of a newb!)
So please let me understand
I am on 7.1.2 april (N2G47E), and if I want to update to may N2G47O the steps are:
- sideload ota
- flash new bootloader from may factory image
- twrp RC1 and supersu 2.79 sr3
Does this work or do I have to make something different?

They do not provide info about this point, but in my experience with this build, multi touch bug is fixed. At least pinch zooming in Instagram is now stable.
Is it ok to sideload over custom kernel?
I couldn't complete the update. After download is completed I am getting error "installation problem couldn't update".
I tried 3 to 4 times I even tried restarting the phone even tried downloading from a different network but none of them helped.
I checked it in a Reddit thread that many others also facing the same error like mine.
Is anyone else facing the same issue like this

No issue here, but I'm not unlocked or rooted.
No issues installing on my bone stock unrooted device.

Yes..
You can just flash full OTA zip via twrp.
No wipes needed.
If I have the bootloader unlocked and with root, can I install this update? Without losing my data or having to re-root the phone?

Download the full OTA zip from below.
https://storage.googleapis.com/essential-static/PH1-OTA-OPM1.180104.234.zip
Reboot in TWRP, flash the zip without wiping anything.
Once the zip flashing is complete, reboot to system.
Then you can root again.
PS - Do not forget to remove your secured lock screen (PIN, Password, Pattern etc.) before flashing TWRP.

Yes.
Rooting will be similar to how you did before.
Is the battery getting better? My battery life got a lot worse since I installed the May update, literally could only last a few hours.
where did you get the image from?...I meant he modded image to get the root back.
