Sensors stopped working - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Last week my completely stock N5 stopped auto rotating. After some searching I realized nearly all of the phones sensors were not working. I found a fix thread that suggested deleting the sensor files in the data folder. This worked for a few hours and went back to being broken. At this point my phone was rooted so I tried wiping to see if it was an application problem, no dice. Tried changing roms, nothing.
Are my sensors toast? I'm at a loss.. Help!

Download cpuid on play store and look at sensors section and if they don't show any data they're toast this is a problem with the lg g2s I used to have an lg g2 that had that problem and the nexus 5 is a googlified lg g2

The sensors do show up there. So I suppose there is some hope!

But do they show any data like when you put you finger on the proximity sensor does it show zero and when you remove it show 5 if it does it should be working

Proximity is working now. Looks like the accelerometer isn't. Hmm.

calibrating accelerometer

i recently bought a g2x from wind mobile. it's flashed to cyanogenmod 7.1
anyways, i noticed while playing doodle jump that my accelerometer seems to be off. i tried searching around and found horizontal calibration and sensorcalibutil_yamaha.
horizontal calibration isnt on my menu (settings->display settings)
i dont have sensorcalibutil_yamaha in my system/bin folder. i read i can dl and push it to the bin folder or put it on my sdcard and run it from there.
tl;dr can anyone upload their sensorcalibutil_yamaha please? searched all over for it but couldnt find a link that is working. thanks

The sensor is not Yamaha. Just throwing things like that onto your phone is a great way to mess it up. Search for other threads on the code to enter the engineering menu. I believe there is a sensor calibration utility in there.
FYI, the accelerometer, magnetic and orienation sensors in this phone are by Kionix, InvenSense and Aichi Steel. The proximity sensor is by Sharp and the digitizer is by LG. The sensor that monitors IC temp, etc. is made by Rohm. No Yamaha sensors in this device.
i guess that explains why it's not there.
also as an update i did some more searching and found how to do it using the hidden menu, but cm7 does not have it

So that is another reason to leave the phone rooted stock.
well i've flashed to stock and accessed hidden menu. i was sure i read about a way to calibrate with that it but i cant find it again so it seems i was tired and delusional yesterday. i guess basically g2x has no calibration app whatsoever. i also tried looking through my system and data folders for a g sensor config file that other devices seem to have, but no luck
am i the only one with this problem? maybe i should go return it for a new one
edit: my backup got corrupted somehow so i have to reflash and install everything again. fml

[Q] Auto Rotate not working?

Hi all, I just noticed that my auto rotate isn't working anymore. I was using a custom rom, but reverted back to stock just to make sure everything would be alright, but it still isn't working on my stock rom. I downloaded "Phone Tester" from the app store, and when I check to see if it's working, it says that my device has no accelerator, compass, light sensor, etc...
What's going on here? It was working fine a couple of days ago.
Edit, when I go to the Phone Tester app, it says that I don't have:
- Accelerometer
- Compass
- Magnetic Field Sensor
- Proximity Sensor
- Light Sensor
- Gyroscope
- Pressure Sensor
- Humidity Sensor

Having your same issue. It worked once when I flashed a new rom but then I rebooted and it stopped working. I went back to stock but that didn't help either.

If you flashed the factory image and it's still not working then it's most likely a hardware issue.
I remember soon after the N5 was launched there was a barometer app that was crashing all of the sensors. Maybe this is still an issue?

I have barometer installed and working since day 1 I bought the phone.. I would assume the OP problem is an isolated issue that somehow crashed all the sensors.
Most possibility is factory hardware defect.. or .. somehow the phone was at affected by strong magnatic/radiation field area that caused those sensors broken.
Having the same issue.
So I figured something out today. I flashed the stock image for 4.4, (not 4.4.2 like i had previously), and everything works perfectly fine! Now if I take the OTA for 4.4.2 it stops working once again. So now I have no idea what to do lol since I know its not necessarily a hardware issue but more of a software issue. Another thing is while on 4.4.2 if I open GPS Status & Toolbox app to check the GPS or sensors the phone soft reboots but the app never opens.
This is definitively a software issue somewhere. Its been working perfectly fine all day on stock 4.4
I will try and see if I can find what's changing or getting updated when you do the update to 4.4.2.

[Q] Nexus 5 sensor problems

Ok guys, I have a really big problem. I observed today that autorotation doesn't work. This all started (I think) after my phone has suffered a huge drop on the floor. Ok, you can say that that's the cause, but the strange part is that i checked the gyroscope and the accelerometer with sensor sense and other apps and it show that everthing is normal. It detects movements, rotation etc.
I changed the rom (from 4.4.2 stock rooted to CM 11 M5) and everything is the same. What should I do?
P. S. Also, my device isn't recongnized in windows anymore. I checked the MTP settings and still not working. And it can't be caused by drivers.
Just a guess but did you check the auto rotate is selected
Sent from my Nexus 5

Gravity sensor suddenly stopped working

Hi, it appears that recently the gravity sensor in my Nexus 5 stopped working.
At least it is what it seems by using sensor testing apps. And this makes it impossible for the phone to get its orientation (compass is not working).
Screen rotation is still working fine though.
Here is what happened exactly: not long ago I was using Google Maps, but the phone was a bit sluggish so I decided to reboot it.
After rebooting I opened Google Maps again and immediately noticed that the orientation indicator was missing (the blue "beam"), while it was present before the reboot. But I didn't care about it, and just thought that the compass needed re-calibration.
After a few days the orientation indicator was still missing, and the phone never asked me to re-calibrate, as it used to do before instead.
Then one day I launched Google Sky Map, and noticed that the view does not rotate automatically.
So I fired up a sensor test app I had installed (asd.vector.sensor), and no data is displayed for the Gravity sensor. Also orientation is not displayed and the info says that the gravity sensor is used to compute orientation, too.
Other sensors are ok, and as I already wrote screen rotation still works great.
Any clues about this issue? Did anyone ever experience this?
I'm afraid a system restore would not help...
I'm using Resurrection Remix ROM, Android 6.0.1.
Thanks.
If the problem exists on a stock ROM, it could be a hardware fault.

Ok yes, but I still do not know if it exists on a stock ROM.
Taking it the other way around... Do you think there is real possibility that it is a software fault?
I mean: did it ever occur to anyone? Is there really any hope that resetting my phone to stock will fix this?
I HATE having to reset my phone...
Thank you.
I stopped using custom roms a while ago because of minor problems that would suddenly appear.
I don't think there is a way to really tell if it is software or hardware unless you reset or use a stock ROM.

Well, that's a little hope at least.
I will need to find some time to re-stock my Nexus and try.
Thanks .
Ok, I restored the phone to stock and all sensors work again now!
Thanks audit13 for pushing me in that direction .
That's great that it was a software bug in the custom ROM.
Now you get to hunt for a custom ROM that works with a minimal or zero number of issues

LG g3 cat.6 accelerometer and gyro not working

Hi
My phone was working perfectly until yesterday, I downloaded some apps and then Uninstall them but then I started noticing the rotation wasn't working then I put on auto still not working. Then installed some sensors test and cpu z but all showing not supported or don't even have accelerometer and gyro, not working or stuck is another thing but not competible or don't even have made me think it's a soft problem, that's why did full reset but same results. Put it on safe mode same results. Also when I open maps now only show round dot. So Idk it's software or hardware that's why came to ask you guys
Don't have an answer to the problem. Just letting you know you posted in the wrong forum (see pinned post). You might get more eyes on your issue in the Q&A/Help section.
