[Q] HTC ONE SV ROOT issue - HTC One SV

I recently got twrp and root on my phone. at least it SAYS that I am rooted, but I am still unable to uninstall system apps that are unwanted. I am able to get into recovery and installed SU through the recovery. Says that installation of SU was successful so I went and fixed permissions. but still no love on getting rid of all this bloatware. any help would be greatly appreciated.

System has a write protection. You can skip this with S-off or a modded kernel.
But i'm not sure if there is a kernel that does the job for cricket One SV.
So S-off is your best solution.

call me stupid, but how to go S-OFF? im still fairly new to modding and flashing. thanks for the info!

Depends on your software version.

I am running 4.2.2
software # 3.05.1050.101

Then go with http://rumrunner.us (universal version)

Try to root with S On & *locked* using the rooting method in my tool.
I believe Busybox & SU is being installed, but the binaries are not present.
You can try and see if it works for you.
I'm trying to get it to work on S On & *locked* devices.

The only error is that the file doesn't exist for S On & *locked* users, although I can't confirm if this because this is true I've only heard about this from a couple of users.
The rest of the tool is bug free.
If you want to install a custom ROM then you will have to do either one of the following:
Use HTC Dev Unlock & Stay S On.
S Off without voiding your warranty. and then continue with this tutorial from step 1
Now, for the second method, you can also use my tool.
And frankly, because you are starting from scratch, the tool will make everything easy. Here's the options that you need to select:
First, S Off.
then Install 4EXT Recovery
then Install Firmware
then download your ROM & Install by selecting install ZIP from recovery.

Yes, once you are HTC Dev unlocked, you can. If you can't install the recovery, new version of the tool in a few minutes, which will make it possible.

I was in your state as well. I was trying to see wait whether Revolutionary.io would produce a newer version for the HBOOT 1.27. But I got tired of waiting and just went on to use other methods. In the beginning, it's a bit confusing. It took me a while to understand everything. But once you follow the steps, everything should become more simple.
A problem that I encounter was install 4EXT Recovery. I couldn't install it at first. I just install Clockwork's Recovery and flashed the ROM I picked. Then I went ahead and downloaded the apk for the 4EXT Recovery and install it from there. It was troublesome in the beginning, but it was well worth it.
My suggestion is that you should do HTC Dev Unlock first. Then S-OFF.

But you can unlock the bootloader through HTC dev and root later. Have you succeeded there with unlocking only?

Follow steps 1 and 2 of my tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1475575
I had the same problem as you when trying to unlock the boot loader :/ it's because you haven't had the over-the-air update to 1.57 software version probably.
After you've done that, then either follow this tutorial to root your phone, or just install a custom rom like which is already rooted

I think I know why the first step of htcdev unlock doesn't work when I unlocked my chacha, my bootloader was 1.09 I think, after updating my hboot, it was 1.10.0000 (which is what it is right now).
So I don't think you need to update your HBOOT at all
Try following the htcdev unlock instructions, but just skip out the part when you have to run that RUU to update hboot

This is the ROM i'm using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644087 but it haves no radio
here are some stock roms: http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Chacha
This is the best rom i found: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1690088 ICS sux for me
I tried su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525404 but it didn't work. (root for apps won't work) so i tried Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed.zip it worked successfully
Download Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed.zip: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?lyngpterup8vt53 and place it in your MicroSD card
Boot into clockword mod and choose install zip from MicroSD card
Then select the zip location for the superuser file and select it and confirm
When done click back then reboot system
If all went well you should be rooted
Check by opening your app drawer and look for the SuperUser icon

You need to flash clockworkmod recovery follow this tutorial here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1164468
And then you can either root your stock rom by following this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1184118
Or install a custom rom like Cyanogenmod 7 which is already rooted, or a custom stock rom like Ajeeval's Zasa4Chacha (which is already rooted as well). If you're gonna try out any other roms, make sure you do a backup in clockworkmod recovery first, because you don't wanna be having to reinstall your stock rom if something goes wrong, you'd be there all day lol

[Q] Installing RUU, which one to choose

Hi,
My battery has been acting up for almost half a year now and my usage time is half of what it was when i got it. I have been installing several different ROMs and kernels so I am at a lost on what's wrong. So I have decided to install a RUU to see if a total reset can fix my phone.
I found this page: http://www.androidfiles.org/ruu/?developer=Ville
Does anybody know which RUU from the link is the newest/best? Will I get updates from HTC when I do this?
Currently running trickdroid 10.3.2, bricked kernel, twrp 2.3.3, S-OFF and superCID - is there anything in particular I should know before doing this?
I have never installed a RUU before, hope somebody can help
anyone? Or perhaps just a part answer

Choose RUU according to your CID.
Must restore original CID to avaoid having problems with OTA updates.
If you receive OTA updates with superCID, a brick is going to welcome you.

Ok so i am in a similar fix.
I obtained S-Off/superCID the very next day i got my One S .. things were running smooth on stock. Looked out for some ROMS and finally installed one. Now I want to revert to my stock ROM while maintaining S-off/root. My problem is only that i don't find this ROM stable or the kernel .. just want to revert to stock.
Live in Pakistan, hence i doubt OTA is going to ever cause me any trouble. Could you please recommend which RRU should i install?
Would really appreciate some help from a fellow countryman

Yes, you're right. Latest 4.2.2 Custom ROMs are having some bugs at the moment.
I need to know some details before I recommend anything.
1. S3/S4 version processor? (CPU-Z from play store will tell you that)
2. CID & MID (CID getter from play store will tell you that)
3. Last Stock firmware you had/installed?
4. HBOOT version?

Okay that's good but I need to know the original CID that the phone was shipped with.
Also, I'll need to know MID (Model ID). You can find it out via CID GETTER. When you open the app search for the line [ro.aa.modelid]: PJxxxxxxx that's the model ID

Ok. I deem this RUU to be the most suitable for you, which is Here.
Just run the RUU and it will do the job for you.
A word or two of caution here:
1. The RUU will erase everything.
2. After the RUU, you might want to change your CID back to HTC__001 because it has been rumored that HTC will release JellyBean 4.2.2 + Sense 5 for the One S. If you update the ONE S via OTA with SUPERCID, you will brick your device.
And anyway, SuperCID is not necessary at all for flashing Custom ROMs.
3. You will lose the Root for sure. But you can flash custom recovery + SuperSU again after going stock.
Edit: Oh! and match the MD5 hash of the downloaded file and the one on the server. MD5 checking utility is on XDA somewhere.
Edit 2: The CID in all cases comprises of 8 characters. i.e HTC__001 (8 chars), BM___001 (8 chars, my CID) etc. So when changing the CID, be sure to have an 8 character CID.
regards

haha... Yes..
Well the All-in-One-Toolkit by Hasoon2000 is the one you have to follow. But no S-OFFing/SuperCID.
You just need the bootloader unlocked to get Rooted/Custom ROM/Recovery.
Since you have already unlocked the bootloader, I think it's not necessary to use the AIO toolkit again.
What we need is this:
- Run the RUU. (Run it first, and if it gives you errors, you might need to Relock your bootloader which is quite simple).
[For the latter part] - Then if you want to Root you stock ROM, we will have to flash custom Recovery, which again is quite simple and can be flashed from fastboot. I'll guide you on this part later when you are stock again. No biggy.

AOA Orak,
I installed the RUU and am back to stock now. Using the toolkit installed TWRP S4 recovery but when i try to go into recovery a red triangle with an exclamation mark appears; the phone stays with it for a while and then reboots to normal desktop. Tried it a number of times with the same result. Since i am unable to go into recovery, i cannot flash the supersu.zip and thus no root :/ Should I go for CWM?

Tried it a number of times with the same result. Since i am unable to go into recovery, i cannot flash the supersu.zip and thus no root :/ Should I go for CWM?

Okay first you boot into bootloader and tell me the details ..
To go into bootloader, turn off device, then hold power + vol down ... A white background with details..
Post them here.

Ok so i figured it out in the meanwhile .. I had locked the bootloader before running the RUU. Unlocked it, installed recovery and flashed SU successfully.
So now I have two questions:
1- Do i need to re-lock the bootloader? If yes, will I still be able to flash custom roms?
2- How do i revert my original CID value? Will 'fastboot writecid HTC__001' do the trick? Are there any pre-requisites for it?

- Okay before anything, i would advise to flash TWRP 2.3.3.0 recovery and you will avoid many issues currently being faced with 2.5.0.0.
You can find 2.3.3.0 Here.
If you need help on flashing, ask away.
- now your questions:
1. No and No
2. You have to boot into bootloader and then go into FASTBOOT and write the command
fastboot oem writecid HTC__001
BTW, I assume you have adb+fastboot files on your PC?

If you want to delete the apk's within the rom, yes, if you want do delete them within recovery, no.

if you still have a custom recovery installed (TWRP or CWM) it's as simple as finding a superuser zip package and installing it. I'd say it would be helpful for other things too (such as optional overclcoking/underclocking, etc)
thanks exad
but now how do I go about installing that
I lost my twrp and superuser when I ruu'd back to stock and ota updated
thanks again
Unlock your bootloader, flash TWRP again, flash su.

Actually, if you're s-off, you should be able to skip unlocking your bootloader, and just flash TWRP then su. That's what I did.

by the way I am unlocked
Where are you getting the recovery from? Also, are you checking the md5?
Sent from my Evita
Latest 2.6 works well.

I got the file from this site
now you lost me with md5
I do this stuff following instructions not necessarily knowing what im doing with terminology per say
thanks
Use an md5sum checker to check the integrity of the downloaded file. I assume you're using fastboot? And you're finely getting the correct TWRP for our phone?

If you aren't on the supported firmware it won't work. So, if that doesn't work for you then I would just leave it S-on. It isn't hard to fastboot flash a boot.img before flashing a rom in recovery.
Ok, thanks for your reply. I want to flash cm 10.2. That should be possible without s-off?

Yeah. It is just recommended that you are s-off.
As the guy said before you need to flash boot.img (the kernel) afterwards.

I just noticed this thread.
I also have a similar problem. I cannot achieve s-off with my (S4) htc one s , running the exact same hboot as op.
To upgrade to jb 4.2.2 sense 5 which we should be getting for which we now won't despite them making the update.
Will we be able to upgrade to this new patch with s-on using the flash boot?

Maximus HD --- No you need S-off for this. The firmware updates your Hboot, Radio, and you flash a different recovery and finally Rom
You might check out other Rom's that have Sense 5 4.2.2 features. They do not require S-off like Maximus does.
Hi thanks for your reply.
Do you know of any such roms that don't require the s-off?
I installed odyssey, its got no google playstore..suddenly my computer no longer recognizes my sd card / phone.
I tried adb push, managed to get a stock orang001 tmobile uk package to the root folder, but when i turn off the mount, it says its bad..which is a little odd.
Seems thought I got odyssey installed / flashed etc, its so bare as its practically useless to me unless i have google, plus its got weird glitches on boot up, taking forever, always booting into the developers screen etc.

With Odyssey you have to flash slim gapps after you install the rom.
Your Sd card (partition) may be corrupted, the way to fix that is to put the stock recovery back on your phone then go to bootloader and "clear storage"
All of the other Roms don't require S-off, MagioRom is being actively developed with the sense 5 and 4.2.2.

No, it is hard enough to get it to work on the supported firmware. (I would love to be proven wrong, for the handful of people that need this)

Please tell me how did you manage to install MaximusHD ROM without S-off!
I'm a little scared since I read they have a lot of problems while installing this ROM.
I'm using CM10.1 right now, but I would like to have sense 5 on my HTC One S.
I have unlocked boot loader and TWRP recovery.
I read there are other ROMS with sense 5 like MagioRom, which doesn't require S-Off (As far as I know)
Is there a great difference between MagioRom and MaxiumusHD? All I want is Sense 5 on my phone without all the terrible of S-offing!!

I tried Maximus with CWM, did i using sideload and them flash the boot.img file. but it was a disaster as my device didn't connect to wifi and had some call drops then I tried flashing twrp and then sideloaded magicrom 4.0 and flas boot.img, it looks lot better now but only issue right now is my phone keeps on rebooting and am still waiting for a stable rom to be released.
I read MagioRom comments and they say with that ROM phone reboots a lot. So I think the only way is with MaximusHD. The WiFi problem I think it can be fixed. I don't know about the call drops, but many have this ROM as daily use so I guess it's ok. I will try S-off with moonshine method, then try install Maximus. Hope my phone survives.
