Try to root with S On & *locked* using the rooting method in my tool.
I believe Busybox & SU is being installed, but the binaries are not present.
You can try and see if it works for you.
I'm trying to get it to work on S On & *locked* devices.

The only error is that the file doesn't exist for S On & *locked* users, although I can't confirm if this because this is true I've only heard about this from a couple of users.
The rest of the tool is bug free.
If you want to install a custom ROM then you will have to do either one of the following:
Use HTC Dev Unlock & Stay S On.
S Off without voiding your warranty. and then continue with this tutorial from step 1
Now, for the second method, you can also use my tool.
And frankly, because you are starting from scratch, the tool will make everything easy. Here's the options that you need to select:
First, S Off.
then Install 4EXT Recovery
then Install Firmware
then download your ROM & Install by selecting install ZIP from recovery.

Yes, once you are HTC Dev unlocked, you can. If you can't install the recovery, new version of the tool in a few minutes, which will make it possible.

I was in your state as well. I was trying to see wait whether Revolutionary.io would produce a newer version for the HBOOT 1.27. But I got tired of waiting and just went on to use other methods. In the beginning, it's a bit confusing. It took me a while to understand everything. But once you follow the steps, everything should become more simple.
A problem that I encounter was install 4EXT Recovery. I couldn't install it at first. I just install Clockwork's Recovery and flashed the ROM I picked. Then I went ahead and downloaded the apk for the 4EXT Recovery and install it from there. It was troublesome in the beginning, but it was well worth it.
My suggestion is that you should do HTC Dev Unlock first. Then S-OFF.

Unable to root htc sensation...

I'm trying to root my htc sensation using revolutionary method.. but while it attempts to root, it gives an error "failed to get root"

If you followed this guide try flashing "su-2.3.6.3-ef-signed.zip" again. On my Sensation it worked after 3rd try ;-)

"Failed to get root"
I read somewhere that it happens because of applying the OTA update.. So my question is, If I flash RUU over it and then try again, would it work ?
Follow the steps in the guide you were following s-off with Revolutionary, it make take 5 tries and say it fails but eventually it works, keep looking to see when it says s off. Then put the CWM Recovery zip on your sd card and Super user zip from the guide. Then flash the PMG58IMG zip which is your Recovery, delete the PMG58IMG file from your sd card, then boot into recovery and choose the option for flashing a zip from sd card, navigate to the SU signed zip, it will fail 3 or more times just keep installing it and your done.

Go for Tacoroot method..it works...dont worry abt bricking and all..
then do Revolutionary S-off...
Install 4ext recovery
install Superuser...
install suitable firmware
insatall rom...
You might go into bootloops but dont panic...installing ROM will take care of that..
It has worked for me...100% works...TRy...
Go ahead and ROOT...life becomes Awesome after that...

[Q] Possible to root on Sensation XE ICS

I am really a noob at rooting, though there are easy steps. However this confuses me. So if anyone can find a very good guide for rooting my Sensation XE running on ICS, that is noob-friendly.
EDIT: All I need to do is to downgrade my HBoot version to 1.17.xxxx - but I want to find the easiest way to do that.
EDIT2: I unlocked my phone's bootloader. Doesn't help with S-Off though. :/
I will have to wait for Revolutionary to update their tool so that my phone can S-Off (since my phone is 1.27.0000)
May I can downgrade my phone back to Gingerbread, but how? And it looks risky, will that can brick my phone?
I'll press the Thank button if your post is helpful enough.
I have found this to be a very useful guide with ICS https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KEQCpmcLGjbkeLmVU0mpLSwZvjNqLSAmNBqyKMus3Ag/edit?hl=en_US
You may also want to check youtube for the unlockr video tutorials, they typically refer back to xda, but will help if you need a visual reference.

Maybe you will try to use Unlock Bootloader from htcdev.com but I can't make sure because I already S-OFF before rooted. But if you find a way to S-OFF you may would like try method above which I use.
I hope you have been s-off before update because unrevoked won't support it right now. If it show LOCKED on bootloader, this is how I root my Sensation XE.
1. Unlocked the phone using htcdev.com account since no other's method seem possible right now. But if you device already unlock you do not have to do this.
Go to hTCDEV register, click "Unlock Bootloader" and follow the instruction.
2. Install custom recovery, since htc recovery won't flash/install flashble zip correctly. For this I use "Android Recovery Manager". Reboot the phone after unlocked process. Connect the phone with usb cable. Open the Android Recovery Manager > Start > ** Download a recovery ** > HTC Sensation > ClockWorkMod 5.0.2.0 (Pyramid) > follow the instruction on the software. If stuck when device reboot to flash hboot but not yet flash it because can recognised the FASTBOOT(Android Recovery Manager waiting for FASTBOOT). Take out battery, reconnect usb and boot to FASSBOOT.
3. Flash the supersu, as the Android Recovery Manager finish flash the ClockWorkMod you have to install Superuser-3.0.7-d-signed.zip. If fail retry flash 2-3 times, but I am just done 1 time, before on GB I flash two time because fail at 1st time. And now you rooted and reboot your phone.
Try at your own risk.
Summary :
Download Android Recovery Manager and Superuser-3.0.7-d-signed.zip, place the Superuser-3.0.7-d-signed.zip on sdcard. Unlock the phone on htcdev.com, install custom recovery with Android Recovery Manager and flash the supersuser.
* use Superuser version 3.0.7 because the lower version won't support ICS. Use link given and download the right version.
I am using this method on Sensation XE, so try at your own risk. I will not responsible to anything happen. And please do make sure you backup your device first.
# Just hit the thanks button so I and other's will know this method also work for you ;p

[Q] Need Help - Xe (ICS) bootloader says S-OFF but superuser says not rooted

Hi
I have a sensation xe. I rooted it before upgrading it to ICS (before is GB).
I upgraded it by flashing official ics rom due to I previously installed clockworkmod recovery which stop me from normal way of upgrade.
After upgrade everything's fine, but superuser and clockworkmod gone.
When I install superuser it says binary not found. but I checked my bootloader it says S-OFF.
What should I do?
Android - 4.0.3
Software number - 3.32.401.105
Hboot - 1.27.0000
Radio - 11.22.3504.07_M
Nevermind.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G with Beats Audio using xda premium
I don't know what is that, I think not.
I flashed it using RUU_PYRAMID_LE_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.32.401.105_R_Radio_11.69.3504.00U_11.22.3504.07_M_release_251961_signed.exe
If you find it locked you have to unlock first with htcdev.com but many user won't recommend it but at this time I think it the only way to unlock the bootloader, install the custom recovery(CWM) and install the superuser(root the phone).
You can get the details on this post.
But I already have it rooted before upgrade. I thought it will remain rooted? coz my bootloader shown S-OFF
OK, you have S-off. I guess you should be able to flash Revolutionary firmware from Boot loader, then use fast boot to flash the recovery, then flash root from the recovery you installed earlier and voila.

Or, flash a firmware that contains recovery and then flash super user (just make sure its the correct firmware.) (I don't remember exactly where I seen this firmware, but I'm sure I have. Maybe here or somewhere else)

If you are S-Off you can root it again (because you flashed a RUU you lost root)
1) need to have a custom recovery (CWN or 4EXT). There is a nice tool to instal 4ext recovery HERE or download this PG58IMG. Just put it in your sd card and flash it from bootloader.
2) Then Download and install from custom recovery the Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
Done!

Correct. By revolutionary you install CWM and then you can switch to 4ext. same as I did but in his case he doesn't need to use Revolutionary because already unlocked and s-Offed (and also because Revolutionary doesn't support Hboot 1.27). He needs just to install a custom recovery by a PG58IMG and superuser to get root again.

Also, I think we are hitchhiking the thread with OT postings.

I had the same problem as you when trying to unlock the boot loader :/ it's because you haven't had the over-the-air update to 1.57 software version probably.
After you've done that, then either follow this tutorial to root your phone, or just install a custom rom like which is already rooted

I think I know why the first step of htcdev unlock doesn't work when I unlocked my chacha, my bootloader was 1.09 I think, after updating my hboot, it was 1.10.0000 (which is what it is right now).
So I don't think you need to update your HBOOT at all
Try following the htcdev unlock instructions, but just skip out the part when you have to run that RUU to update hboot

This is the ROM i'm using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644087 but it haves no radio
here are some stock roms: http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Chacha
This is the best rom i found: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1690088 ICS sux for me
I tried su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525404 but it didn't work. (root for apps won't work) so i tried Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed.zip it worked successfully
Download Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed.zip: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?lyngpterup8vt53 and place it in your MicroSD card
Boot into clockword mod and choose install zip from MicroSD card
Then select the zip location for the superuser file and select it and confirm
When done click back then reboot system
If all went well you should be rooted
Check by opening your app drawer and look for the SuperUser icon

You need to flash clockworkmod recovery follow this tutorial here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1164468
And then you can either root your stock rom by following this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1184118
Or install a custom rom like Cyanogenmod 7 which is already rooted, or a custom stock rom like Ajeeval's Zasa4Chacha (which is already rooted as well). If you're gonna try out any other roms, make sure you do a backup in clockworkmod recovery first, because you don't wanna be having to reinstall your stock rom if something goes wrong, you'd be there all day lol

[Q] Step by step instructions to root and install Jellybean Jellytime for Inspire 4G

Dear All,
I am a completely new to android apart from the fact that I just received a HTC Inspire 4G! I do not have AT&T service in my country and am currently using sim from a local service provider. So I updated my device to Android 2.3.5 and HTC Sense 3.0.
I want to try Jellytime Jellybean in my Inspire 4G. I read many articles (including those in XDA, but since I am very inexperienced, all of these just fly over my head!! I want some step-by-step instructions on how to root HTC Inspire 4G and install Jellytime JellyBean on this device. What's given in the Jellytime Google code webpage in few lines is very very abstract and I don't understand a word of it!
Can some experienced people help me..?
Thanks a lot in advance,
Ron

So, If I got it right,
1. I have to use EasyAceRootTool given here to root.
2. To install custom ROMs in INspire 4G, I don't have to do S-OFF, but just unlocking the bootloader will be sufficient (which is the whole purpose of using EasyAceRootTool).
3. If at all I need to do S-OFF, I can use HTCDEV tool, but it is for advanced users (and I am not going to try that unless it is absolutely necessary)
4. So, after rooting Inspire 4G with EaseyAceRootTool, I can flash Jellytime ROM (JB 4.2.2 R8 probably..?).
Following are my further questions..
a) If I use EasyAceRootTool and followed the instruction given at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38571636 to root my phone, will I be able to unroot it to the stock ROM later so that I save my warranty? I've htc_inspire4g_att_RUU_3.20.502.52_US, the latest update for Inspire 4G downloaded from HTC/AT&T website, so If I want to unroot and change back to this ROM, will it be possible? or do I need to download any other apps/tools to accomplish this?
b) How do I practically INSTALL Jellytime..? Can't understand a word after reading their instructions (Which I am reproducing below):
Install Instructions:
Reboot into Recovery - How to I do this? Do I need to install anyother tools other than EasyAceRootTool?
Wipe data/factory reset(if using 4EXT recovery wipe everything except sd) Can I do this without any software and how?
Install zip from sdcard
Inspire users flash Inspiremod
Install latest gapps
Fix permissions What exactly do I have to do here?
Reboot!
Thanks a lot again,
I know most of these questions might have been answered, but I am completely lost in the sea of information and can't get to the right one. Please help!

1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. No. HTCDEV does not give you S-Off. Easy Ace just automates the HTCDEV process.
4. Yes. Each time after you will need to fastboot flash the boot.img from the ROM zip. Instructions for that are in my signature.
A. No. Once unlocked there is a record.
B. Reboot into recovery by holding power and volume-down. Everything else is an option in the recovery. Easy Ace Root Tool isn't installed on your phone, it is a tool run from your computer to unlock your phone.

I I got you right, when you said "A. No, Once unlocked there is a record", you meant the device can not be unrooted to htc_inspire4g_att_RUU_3.20.502.52_US once it is rooted using EasyAceRootTool. RIght?
Sorry for being so noob. :
You can relock it and run the RUU, but the bootloader will say "relocked."

I'm using the Inspire 4G with custom JB 4.2.2 Rom. I did use the HTCDEV to unlock bootloader.from there on your warranty is voided. It is a real improvement with google now and longer 20-30% battery life. i even put new bigger 1800mah battery off ebay from the original 1250mah one.

What is this option S-Off used for..?And do i need to consider it while flashing a custom rom
You don't need to S-Off to flash Roms. I believe S-Off would indicate phone was rooted.

It allows you to flash to all partitions including radios, and you don't need to flash the boot.img separately each time you flash a ROM the way you do with an S-On unlocked bootloader. Bit both allow ROM flashing.

Root is completely separate from S-Off. Unlocked bootloader can also allow root.
Thanks <bananagranola>
So at what point I should think of flasing radios...and I am assuming that with the option S-Off, I can flash the rom not the radio right...

1. If your radio works I wouldn't bother. S-On is easier than S-Off to get now. But with S-Off you can flash radios; with S-On you can't.
2. Yes.
When you mention flash radio is that reg music radio?
