Hey, I've lost my employer-provided data access for my P905V. Can this tablet be unlocked for any other domestic carriers? Personally I'm a Sprint subscriber and would like to use on their net. Plan B is tether through my GS4, but the battery goes away FAST!
Thanks

I purchased a Xoom through a wholesaler for full price without any contract.
It is a Verizon labelled device - both wifi and 3G
I don't want to use Verizon as they are rapists on data plans and was hoping to use on the sprint network.
I believe that even though there is no contract, Verizon are SOB's and won't unlock the device, so I'm sure there are some smart people on here who can/will?
I want to use Sprint's network as I will use a lot of data and the unlimited plan is great.
Additionally, I will travel to other countries that have CDMA networks that I would want to utilize when I am there.
But most important is the ability to use on Sprint network - is this possible?
Thanks!
i doubt they will activate the verizon xoom on their network
your best bet would be to tether to your phone for data service

Interesting....I chatted with sprint today and they seemed to think there would be no problem with me running the xoom on their network since I have never had a contact with verizon our other carrier.
Thanks for that other link, it seems incredibly complicated to achieve something that is surely very simple given both verizon and sprint essentially use the same technology?
Hi guys been reading on forums about att automatically detecting smartphones but some say its ok if the phone is unbranded and some say any phone it might be ATT will be able to detect it...
My Question is
I have a Nexus s i9023 bought in india now i am in USA i already bought an ATT connection which i am using on a samsung [dumbphone](i activated the sim with the imei of that dumbphone) ..I would like to know if ATT will be able to detect my phone as smartphone if i switch that sim onto my Nexus S and activate a dataplan??
PS: i will disable data by all means...using CM7.1..will use Wifi only
HI,
When I was in US last year - I purchased multiple connections - initially from AT&T and then from T-Mo.
AT&T - My phone was a Nokia 5230 then and I threw the dumbphone into bin and used my 5230 without any issue. I was on a $50 plan with unlimited talk & text and 500MB data.
T-Mo : Same experience, this time I just bought a sim. Not even a dumb phone. You can walk into any of the T-Mo showrooms and get one. Or buy a dumb phone + plan and use it..
As a matter of fact, I have a friend in US who is using a Galaxy S with a T-Mo sim taken out of an dumb phone.
Thanks, J
hey thanks for the reply!!
Well i know abt the scenario of t-mobile... i would like to stick on to att... so i wanna know if att would be able to recognize my mobile as a smartphone and charge me a dataplan accordingly...
NP man.. Hit Thanks if i helped
I don't think so. Are you on a postpaid plan?
I just confirmed that you could get the Sim only connection from AT&T too. Prepaid connections are generally bundled with dataplans and they stop working once you cross the limit
Thanks man...
My ques is if i swap the sim does ATT automatically recognize nexus s as a smart phone ?? coz of it does it subscribes to the dataplan into my account...:|
yes they will detect your phone eventually.
if you are under contract they can enforce a data plan requirement
i was looong off contract when i switched to a crackberry
but had data blocked on my account
they never tried to force me onto a data add...
fwiw
we threw my old captivate on our sons dumbphone line, turned off data on the phone and AT&T has not said a thing. The account shows the smartphone on it, but no data plan is being forced.
Does the wifi hotspot work on the G930U (US unlocked galaxy S7) when connected to Verizon network if you have verizon's grandfatherd unlimited data plan, and do NOT have a subscription to their tethering plan? On verizon specific phones, the phone checks for the subscription before turning on hotspot, unless the phone is rooted and a work around is added (ie mototether on xposed).
I would assume that it would since there would be no verizon software to check this before activating hotspot on the phone, but I want to see if anyone has actually confirmed that this is the case before I buy the 930U.
thanks in advance.
I came here looking for the same answer...I know Wifi Calling does NOT work with Verizon so if this doesn't either it would unfortunately be a deal breaker

The hotspot will work just fine since it is built into the phone. Verizon users are flashing on the U firmware to allow their phones to bypass Verizon's hotspot verification.
I am on Verizon and I bought the 930U. My plan has hotspot so I cannot comment on that but I can confirm it will not do Verizon wifi calling or visual voicemail. I wanted both of those so I flashed Verizon 930V firmware on my 930U with no issues. Nice not having the Verizon logo on the outside of my phone.
Thanks for the responses. I went and bought the G930U from best buy. Wifi hotspot is working just fine with no provision checks. I have unlimited data without the tethering subscription.

Check this out here and read a few threads, I believe someone said that the 935 firmware worked on the 930.

Only way I could get Visual Voicemail to work with the 930U was to flash the 930V firmware. So I basically have a Verizon S7 with no Verizon Logos on it.

Yeah I was looking for away to not lose the hotspot and visual voicemail / wifi calling. Maybe download the APKs?
Hey guys, Im new here and my search for an answer let me to you for help. so here goes...
As you probably know by now, Verizon has released an unlimited plan, catch is after 10 gigs of hotspot you are knocked
back to 3g for further hotspoting during the billing cycle, I need a way around this as LTE is my soul source of high speed
intenet access as cable isn't available in my area.
I know about the pdanet+ app and tethering it to a laptop via cable allows for hiding the tether usage from the carrier,
does this still work? If so once its hooked up can I use my laptop like a router for other devises in the house and still be
masking the tether usage?
Or perhaps there is a simpler way now? Im open to all suggestions, BTW right now I'm on a iPhone but have come to the
conclusion if Im going to make this work I need to switch to a android (probably a galaxy s7 edge)
Tommy
Unfortunately on Verizon they have any way to do just gotta blocked. But if you really want unlimited data and Hotspot you have two options.
T-Mobile One plan
AT&T Unlimited Data Plan** (https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-s7-edge/how-to/att-mobile-hotspot-glitch-t3383680)
**Only works for Galaxy S7 Edge AT&T branded on 6.0.1 not 7.0
I did the AT&T Unlimited Data Plan. Screenshots attached. ?
These are the only ways that I can personally confirm.
I've been a Verizon user forever and just switched to AT&T in order to get an unlimited plan (among other things). The base unlimited plan apparently does not have a hot spot available unless the user upgrades to the premium unlimited plan. I had my Verizon GS5 for a few days before updating to an a10e. The converted verizon GS5 (rooted) could have hotspot turned on but the AT&T a10e cannot.
I'm not paying another $40/line to get that feature that we need once in a while. But, I'm curious why it worked with the GS5. Was it the rooting or that it started as a verizon phone and was allowed to hit spot? Can I VPN and get it to work that way? Just curious options.
After doing more research, it appears as I expected, the rooted GS5 from verizon didn't have the same checks as a stock AT&T phone will. So, I'll just have to root the new one I guess. Was in the plans anyway.
