I am on T-Mobile my nexus 5 is stock unrooted and when I'm on YouTube it will switch to h and I will have to leave it off for a few minutes for it to have LTE again I don't know whether its the phone or T-Mobile

I don't get this problem on T-Mobile. What firmware are you on?
Sent from Tapatalk on Nexus 5
I am on ktu84p with m8974 baseband it has been doing this since Saturday on and off I use a lot of data because my home internet goes out a lot but I have unlimited data with unlimited data it is almost like T-Mobile is throttling me but why I have unlimited
Could it be a problem with the radio I called T-Mobile they said that there is no problems on there end should I RMA it if that would make a difference or would the new nexus 5 do the same thing
It seems to be suffering other problems as well like awful battery life and it gets hot very easily all of this after updating to 4.4.4 don't want to root it again but either root it or get a new one
very little of this screen on time it never used to drain this fast
If you're on stock and you haven't made any changes, the problem is either on T-Mobiles end or the hardware. If you called T-Mobile and they said there's no service outage I would look into an RMA.

I have ran into a few other problems as well the battery issue and it getting hot as far as I know it's a big problem I think I will root the next one when it gets here tomorrow
That's the N5 for you. I just got another one after a 6 month hiatus and I forgot how crappy the radios are in it. With my most recent phones, iPhone 5s and Moto X, I would ALWAYS be on LTE in my area. There is a tower nearby so signal strength is not an issue. Even outside my area, neither of those phones ever dropped LTE. The N5 on the other hand drops down to HSPA+ all the damn time. I have to toggle airplane mode to get LTE back up and it always comes back with near full bars so again, not a signal issue. I've had 3 N5's in the last 2 weeks and all of them did the exact same thing, and my original N5 that I got when it first came out also did it so it is clear to me that it is just a fact of life with the N5. This is a prime reason why I am sticking to Motorola from here on out.
Is it just the Youtube app or is it just when you start using a lot of data?
When using a lot of data I just got the replacement nexus 5 and it doesn't seem to be doing but I am on purity ROM I will have to see if it does it with this one
Your LTE signal is terrible in that screenshot . It's simply switching when apps can't get a good connection to LTE. If it's that bad, I'd save the trouble and toggle LTE off.
---------- Post added at 07:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:53 PM ----------
And I bet if you have a strong signal, it doesn't happen?
Your suggestion works I get almost full signal h+
I have been noticing the same thing on my Nexus 5 on T-Mobile. If I am receiving only 1 bar of LTE I will sometimes loose LTE and it will never come back until I am in an area with strong LTE for a while.

The bars are nothing to go by really. You would need to compare db or asu in Settings > About phone > Status
Always been the same for me, worse signal reception on the N5 compared to my Motorola Razr i or Moto G....
N5 on the left and Moto Razr i on the right.
Both phones have new O2 sim cards inserted.
The N5 has been tested by the engineers at LG (nearly four weeks away for this testing / repairs). Nothing really to note on the engineers report.
I sent lots of photos with the phone and talked in detail with the people at LG over the relatively poor signal with the phone when using O2, 3 or Vodafone on the N5 compared to other phones that I have and what I would expect.
As good as the phone is it has been a let down for me with the strength of its signal capability. I have tried the different radio versions with no real difference.
There are times when it is really good but I just know there are plenty of other times when it is very poor compared to the other phones noted.

Motorola has been making cell phones longer than anyone....and radios.
Don't compare any phones radio to most Motorola's anyway.
It's safe to say the radios, or something in 4.4 have issues on the Nexus 5 regarding radio performance and reception. I can't say my signal is ever superb (t-mo MD); however I have often notice data stalls. Perhaps these are related issues?
I've started using Connection Stabilizer to resolve the data stall issues, if you check the logs you will likely see it working. I highly recommend.

You might have a point. It is just frustrating coming from a phone(s) which has virtually zero signal issues to one which is relatively bugged by them. Sometimes if I see no signal, when it has been in my pocket for a while, toggling it into airplane mode and then off again will restore it.
I am, overall, most impressed with the N5, it is just its ability to maintain a good and strong signal over that of what I have been used to which is most frustrating. I did not realise how bad it was until I went back to the Razr when the N5 was with LG for inspection / repairs for nearly a month.
Just to add that when I was using the Moto G it had an issue too with low or no signal after it had been in standby. Thankfully they fixed that one with the update...
The update is version number 174.44.1 and it has been reported to be pushing out to US and UK models of the Moto G, but should be rolling out to the rest of the globe soon enough. On the change log is a fix for a bug that had been causing cell signal loss for users, a fix for low call volume, a wallpaper cropping issue, and a trouble with USB on the Go.

S6 speedtest http://i.imgur.com/0w0fcWj.jpg - 16.78Mbps
MacBook speedtest http://i.imgur.com/7nzu3Ob.png - 55Mbps
I did the tests separately, one right after the other. The results are always the same, for the past 3 weeks since I go the S6.
I don't have any custom settings on anything (intentionally, anyway). Any idea what's going on?
Edit:
I discovered that the S6 has a full speed connection if the Spigen case is off and I'm right beside the router. As I move a few yards away, the speed begins to decrease. My other devices, including my previous S5, are not this dramatic.
I see that my router has separate connections for 2.4 and 5GHz. I connected the S6 to the 5GHz and the speed is the same as it was before. I also factory reset the S6 as a new device and it's still slow...
I've noticed the same thing... I just upgraded my home internet speed from 50Mbps to 100Mbps and noticed when using the speed test if i'm lucky will get 40Mbps. When I test the internet speed using my Macbook Pro and the wife's Acer i'm seeing 90+Mbps! Might just be the phone....
New to the S6 btw, coming from T-Mobile Samsung Note 4, had to come back to Verizon!

Neo Hybrid. The distance from the router made more difference than the case, but they both affect the speed.
I see. I've used that case and never noticed any degradation of signal... strange

I guess this phone performs better on 5ghz wifi channel, cause i just switched from my 2ghz channel and got twice the speed!!!

Hey everyone,,
I'm in the UK, on 3, and my N5 gets terrible reception pretty much everywhere, mainly indoors. Was wondering if anyone in here has the same problem, trying to figure out if it's the network or the phone itself, though before I had the N4 and didn't have a problem.
Swiching from 4G to 3G as preferred network doesn't make a difference.
Cheers.
Indoors will be limited by the laws of physics, same for any network
Though there are simple logic tests to narrow down the issue further:
- Anyone else on the same network around you with same reception issues?
- Tried your SIM in another unlocked phone?
- And a different SIM in the N5?
Hey Eddie, cheers for the reply.
- No one else here on 3
- Works fine on my N4, no reception problems
- Not yet, plan to
Cheers.
I don't if its placebo or something, but I think flashing KRT16M radio helped my reception.
@DaaT
Don't go flashing radios just yet, won't necessarily make any difference.
When doing the comparison testing, best to use a signal measurement app, or view the strength in dBm in the 'about phone' section. Signal 'bars' aren't really a standard measurement.
If the N5 consistently gets lower signal strength readings with multiple SIMs compared to other devices, then more than likely device issue.
Good idea to still check with other Three users when you get the chance.
Hi Eddiehk6,
Not planning on flashing anything, phone's unlocked but not rooted and fully stock (used to flash ROMs left & right until a couple of years back, but since I've been happy staying stock).
I haven't the a chance to try another SIM in the N5 yet, but wrt to signal, I checked last night at home and was getting -100/101 dBm and 39/40 asu. Right now, here at work, I get 0, zero, nada.
Signal indoors isn't particularly strong for Three here in the UK due to the frequency bands they use for their 3G network. Along with this, they have no 2G network to fall back on and their low-frequency VoLTE-capable network is limited to a few devices in certain areas.

Fair enough, strange though that I never had issues with my N4, both at work and at home. Anywhere really. Checked last night at home and again, signal went down to 0. It's weird...
Keep forgetting to bring the SIM ejection bit to work so I can try someone else's SIM card Guess I could also open it and check the antenna connectors at the bottom.
Removing the Black Cable that runs along the right side of the Nexus 5 that controls the data connectivity and plugging it back in and making sure it was really tight helped me solve the issue. I made sure to tape it too.
As for GSM connectivity issues I had, i sought to using this trick I found online: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/hardware-mod-increse-signal-strength-t2842599
You also might want to unlock some extra bands incase: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/radio-enable-lte-band-3-nexus-5-d820-t2928561
Edit:
The right side shows the cables you want to remove and reinstall and tape it down to the connectors. Make sure they are held tightly:

We know how much you like to stream, ahem, "videos", and so cellular data is mega-important. Rate this thread to express how you think the Xiaomi Mi 5's LTE performs. A higher rating indicates that it's fantastic: throughput is excellent and signal strength is top-notch.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add.
LTE weak signal
HI,
I have a real problem with my Mi 5, the cellular card seems not to work properly, indeed it constantly changing from one network to another , es: from 4G to H+ to H so the LTE cell is not well detected.
I have made some test with SpeedTest using two smartphones ( Z1 on the left - Mi 5 on the right ) with the same Network operator and into the same place but the result are completely different see the enclosed image . Does any one have the same problem?
Thank you
S

I can confirm that I have same issues, I sometimes drop to E. I have never had issues like this previously with any of my Nexus phones. There is definitely something wrong here. WiFi isn't any better. I can't connect to router from place in my house where Nexus 5 does just fine with 4 out 5 bars.
Not good.
I'm thinking on buying this phone, I live in the US but as far as I know, none of the LTE band this phone uses is compatible with any US carriers, right?
I use MetroPCS, btw.

Same problem as lordtao
I also have problems. It usually switch to E or No Signal for a while. Maybe with public kernel source someone could fix that.
Using MIUI 8, I notice that phone will switch to "No Signal" for a very brief moment and then went back.
Didn't have that kind of problem in CM 13/ CM 14.

:good:
I'm able to get consistent wifi, able to stream videos from my home server smoothly. Full connection throughout the house.
But cellular is a bit patchy, sometimes dropping to "Emergency calls only" while moving (for example, car, bus).
It's good while stationary, but often sits just short of full bars.

Same issue here, static is OK, but when fast moving in a car or any transport **** happens.
I'm using Global Stable 8.1.4.0(MAAMIDI).
On my S7 Edge I always had near full bars. On this one(same sim card and service-cricket) I get lower bars but my speed is incredible and even faster than previous phone. I get a 8.84 MBPS Download and 3.95 MBPS upload which is on par considering Cricket limits to 8 MBPS. My bars are never full though or even close. Could this just be a firmware error?

The one issue I'm having is constant drop of data ... playing online games I can see my ping range from 4 green lights to 2 Orange light a then back to 3 green.lovjt . It never stays in one spot which causes very bad lag...idk if this is an isolated issue...but I will reset the entire phone and such tonight to try and start "fresh" to see...
Opposite for me. Coming from LG v20, Wi-Fi and carrier speeds are much much better.

The amount of bars really doesn't matter, it's your signal strength that matters. Look in about phone and status and you should see a range of -80 to -120 dBm. -80 being great and -120 being worse. Ever go to a football game or large concert and have "full bars" but a crap connection? The tower may be close but can't handle the amount of people connected. Sometimes they have COW's (Cell on wheels) that's set up to prevent this from happening at large events but still may affect you.
Anyways, the only issue I have is switching from WiFi to 4G it seems that my connection isn't that great until I turn on and off airplane mode.
You can get a app like signal check .... That will give you your connection in decibels..... That's the true bars ..... Sprint used to always show 1x as bars... You could a call and have no data

Same here, my V20's wifi and 4g reception was weak as hell. I'm consistently 1-3 bars higher and I've got signal in places I didn't quite have before.

So then is this good? If so, ATT nesds a firmware update to correct the bars to reflect the signal. Btw thanks for letting me know that. Its a big relief lol I almost signed up for ATT's $90 plan. Glad I asked on here

About the same to more bars on my s8+ then the s7e
Even that article has it, while being in the -7X range is really great signal, you "can" see signal near -50. I've wireless devices at locations that sit in the low -60s. So not having perfect bars is definitely understandable at -73.
Anyway you shoot it tho, the signal bars are worthless unless you get used to what they mean for your phone mfg.
This actually all blew up big with the antenna gate with apple (though I imagine many forget it now), where people would drop reception depending on how they held their phone. Their bars were worthless and you had to put the phone in a dev like mode to see it in dBm. Then you had a realistic idea of what was actually happening (if you were seeing signal drops or not.)
I remember putting my hand in the "death grip" and seeing normal bars on the iphone but you'd switch it over to read dBm and you'd do it and be at -119 to -120 which is bad. Would be -7x to -8x sitting with no one touching it.
