Verizon is offering the HTC One M8 running Windows Phone 8.1. Interesting, huh?

People laugh when they say, you have the M8 instead of the G3? I could honestly care less...but hopefully someone can dump the WP and pull it to our android side somehow!! Thatd be awesome. Oh...you have a G3? Well I run Android and Windows...

I'm guessing since the new WP is the exact same device as the android version it sounds possible. If it happens I'll definitely give it a try.
It would be interested if I could I could load up windows on my HTC one. Too bad it is only on Verizon's overpriced network.
Very interesting, I'd love to try out Windows on a phone but I can't really afford to just go and buy a phone to try it soo this would definitely be a + for me. Hopefully someone will make a way to dual boot or maybe port MultiROM to the M8 if Windows will work on our Android versions of the M8.
This is the only way I would actually try a Windows Phone, so if it can be ported, I would likely try it. Though I doubt I would stick with it too long...but who knows.
Anyone remember safestrap or boot menu manager?

This reminds me of the HD2, you could run all kinds of OS on them. It would be great if we could dual boot WP8.1 and also Android.

Yes, I was hoping someone could create something similar to that for the M8 or maybe even port one of them to the M8. I'd LOVE to be able to dual boot AOSP and Sense ROM's or even Windows & Android in the future maybe.
Hopefully this works
I'd be interested - I've been wanting to play around with Cortana.
That didn't come out right...
I smell a bounty thread for dual booting coming.....
And I would be on board!!

As would I!
Heck yes for a real dual boot, I'm in for $100
A safestrap compatible ROM would be perfect since it wouldn't touch the bootloader
I agree with you!

Only thing I wonder about is the how different the partition structure might be. That might prevent a safestrap type solution.

Yeah...I remember reading something that the GPE ROMS alter the partition size so its not smooth coming back to a sense ROM etc after it...
But I'm all in for going dual boot if it happens. I'd actually would use Windows phone at work as it would integrate better and be more useful...then as soon as I leave for the day boot back into android.

True but even if twrp were to integrate slots like safestrap, it would be nice. Then all we'd need would be a port and I'm sure the port will be here with in the next few weeks.
Even if there wasn't a dual boot option, but just a way to flash W8 for a day, then restore back to Sense, I would be thrilled. I always wanted to play around on a Windows phone

Is it possible to dual-boot ROMs on the Sensation?
I wouldn't be asking this if I understood more about the Sensation's and Android's framework but why not try right?
Anyone heard of such a thing?
That would be radical!
It would certainly be cool! I'll give you that!
Sort of like how my PC stops after the bios screen and asks me if I want to boot into XP or Linux.
I'd think you'd need a modified bootloader to pull it off though. Something that could recognize 2 ROMs being available.
And the way Android runs, I think you'd absolutely need a partitioned internal storage so the files for 1 couldn't interfere with the files of another.

on my old HD2/Leo, the way they did it is a modified bootloader (Mag/CLK) and installing the rom to SD card.. you could theoretically boot as many roms as you wanted (ie have Gingerbread, ICS, WM6.5, and WM7 Mango on the same phone)
Yes, you can dual boot on Sensation.
There is an app called Boot manager.that supports the sensation and it let's you boot, not only 2 ROM but up to 4!
Downside? Is not free, but it's not expensive either.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
Sounds dumb .. but you can boot a bunch of roms ..
Just install the rom .. make a CWM Backup or a 4ext Backup
Then you can switch between roms like hats and in just a few minutes
I have 6-8 different roms that I play with ..
Will this work on the Samsung exhibit ii

Yeah but it's still somewhat different from turning on your phone and being able to pick what ROM you want to boot, instead of having to wait to restore from backup.
that's all good but notice that it doesn't support ics yet. Only reason I didn't get it.

I guess I should have done more research before I switched to Verizon but Is this something that they do to all their devices?

In my opinion since there is ways to load a custom kernel there is no reason to trade...there are lots of people working on unlocking the boot loader and I would like to see it unlocked. But, for now the ways that we are working around this issue are around and a good solution for now

It depends on your definition of downgrade because honestly I'm trying to figure out what makes this phone so popular?
It can't be the design because this is not at all a nice looking phone.. It can't be the ui cause touch wiz looks like a ten year old designed it
The galaxy nexus with jelly bean I heard is very smooth

There are fully functional jelly bean builds. It's popular because it's a beast, and development is excellent despite the roadblock (which no longer matters).
This is the first time that I own a galaxy s phone and I bought it because of all the hype it gets.. There are like a thousand commercials about this phone
I truly want to know what it is that makes it a beast.. I'm not trying to be a troll or whatever I'm just curious?

I guess my main disappointment is the bootloader
But I understand that it's a newer device so it will take some time..
I guess what I will have to do in the mean time is use widget locker for that horrible lock screen and find a good launcher
Any recommendations

Take a look at Nova Launcher.
Ok so I rooted the phone and it did make the phone a bit more interesting
Now to wait for an easier way to install custom recovery and roms
Tapping that from another galaxy
It's super easy to install roms. Go to the market and download ez recovery, go into easy recovery and install cwm 6.0.1.0. That's it's now go find a tin you like boot into recovery and flash the rom. Of course make a backup first and stay away from asop roms imho. To many people had issues. Flash synergy, beans or cleanrom. Those are all safe roms

Installing custom recovery and ROMs doesn't get any easier than it is now. EZ recovery app, as said above, for custom recovery and clockwork recovery for ROMs mods etc.. If you screw up there is always ODIN. As long as you don't brick the bootloader (just don't flash bootloaders) ODIN should fix near anything I believe.
Thanks for the advice guys I really do appreciate it

It's not going to happen unless you port it, and it's basically the same question as "I want ios on my phone so bad, how can I get this?
If you want ios buy an iPhone.
If you want windows buy a windows phone.
There's a reason we all don't have either one of those.

I think can port it but not entirely sure I have never done a port before but I really want to attempt it. I will need help and support and questions answered. I am a windows phone rom developer. I know I'm not the only one who wants to see this.
That's why I start this thread and ask what is the first step?
I know that we need a dump and drivers to work with. and something to cook with.
Well I suppose a windows compatible boot loader would be first then porting the drivers from android to windows this phone has full source released so your not going to get any thing new for it.
The thing would be is getting windows to recognize this as valid hardware.
Also I don't want windows 8 on my phone I have used it on my laptop it sucked making me think about going to Linux since Microsoft has decided touch interfaces are the future and made windows go full retard.

You said earlier about winmo and win 8 being totally different android and winmo is also totally different.

+1 I am like you, I just sent my M8 out today for a Java S-Off. I am thinking that modifying one of the current TWRP recoveries would be quite easy for someone with the skills. It seems almost all variants have a working recovery and since our hardware is mostly the same (minus radios) I would think that one could be modded for us but the question is, WHO can do this? I think I am going to e-mail the TWRP guys and see if we can get a recovery made for us as this device will need one anyways. Let me know if you find anything out? :good:

Even though yes they are the same phone.
Porting ROMs can be difficult as some are GSM based and we are CDMA, so sure could port it easily but getting RIL (data/calls) to work is a diff story.
although if you look some ROMs state they are for ALL variants such as this one

Yeah, the part that doesn't work (5.0) on Verizon M8's is the radio -- no CDMA/3G/4G support on Verizon phones. (Three guesses how I found that out ...)
