Dual-Boot ROMs? - Sounds crazy but I'm curious... - HTC Sensation

Is it possible to dual-boot ROMs on the Sensation?
I wouldn't be asking this if I understood more about the Sensation's and Android's framework but why not try right?
Anyone heard of such a thing?
That would be radical!

It would certainly be cool! I'll give you that!
Sort of like how my PC stops after the bios screen and asks me if I want to boot into XP or Linux.
I'd think you'd need a modified bootloader to pull it off though. Something that could recognize 2 ROMs being available.
And the way Android runs, I think you'd absolutely need a partitioned internal storage so the files for 1 couldn't interfere with the files of another.

on my old HD2/Leo, the way they did it is a modified bootloader (Mag/CLK) and installing the rom to SD card.. you could theoretically boot as many roms as you wanted (ie have Gingerbread, ICS, WM6.5, and WM7 Mango on the same phone)

Yes, you can dual boot on Sensation.
There is an app called Boot manager.that supports the sensation and it let's you boot, not only 2 ROM but up to 4!
Downside? Is not free, but it's not expensive either.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App

Sounds dumb .. but you can boot a bunch of roms ..
Just install the rom .. make a CWM Backup or a 4ext Backup
Then you can switch between roms like hats and in just a few minutes
I have 6-8 different roms that I play with ..

Will this work on the Samsung exhibit ii

Yeah but it's still somewhat different from turning on your phone and being able to pick what ROM you want to boot, instead of having to wait to restore from backup.

that's all good but notice that it doesn't support ics yet. Only reason I didn't get it.

Ugh thank you was sweating bullets for a minute
Im guessing thats not the right way to remove ATT stock apps? lol I been browsing forums but can find nothing for HTC Inspire 4G
If your not to sure what you should or shouldn't delete, then the best thing for you would be to just flash a stock rooted rom. Like clearD, tcp, or dilligaf.
Titanium backup is the right way. Why don't you try twopumpchump optimized stock Rom in the development section. We're very helpful over there and will walk you through it. You can flash a ROM that already has the bloat removed.

Im kinda nervous to flash roms, I spent 3 hours last night reading/prepping myself for the root, was so nervous of a brick (btw new android user came from iphone) I have a buddy who had a nexus he bricked trying to flash the cryageon rom which is a well trusted rom. Just really scared >.>
Plus will flashing a rom remove contacts ect?
It's not as hard as you think. Take your time though. Best to do your research. Check out the Rom I suggested though and drop in if you have any questions.

As long as you have them saved on your sim no. Personal data yes. Apps not if you back them up. Make a nandroid back up before flashing. All you have to do is download the rom, place it on your sd card. Then boot into recovery install zip from sd card, choose zip from sd card, pick the rom select yes. You just flashed a rom.. As far as I know no one has completely bricked their inspire, even the people who have had corrupted boot loaders have been able to recover.

Honestly, I haven't had a chance to sit down at my desktop and try and mess around with it, college has taken up a lot of my time. I will say its a lot more complex then people think it is. It makes me really appreciate the people who bake roms and make themes.
I will probably sit down this weekend try tweeking a few things, and hopefully get it to work with out boot looping. Makes me wish some one lived around here that could teach me a few things I am a visual learner. I will get one working though .

New Recovery! ClockworkMod 3.0.2.4

I updated my rom manager today and in the recent changes they released a new update for mytouch 4g users. Now we have an official recovery to charge our phones while in recovery! Awesome!!!

- Does this new version support both Froyo and Gingerbread like 3.0.0.6? That's important info...I can't believe Koush hasn't mentioned that.
- Can this version be downloaded as a file? I'd much rather flash it through fastboot.

Yep, that's fixed. We still don't know what ROMs it supports though, which obviously is key information. I can't believe this was released through ROM Manager without stating that.
Im going to try the new recovery in a little bit. Im still on 3.0.0.5 for the moment because im planning on switching back and forth between my gingerbread roms and my froyo builds.

3.0.0.5 can't do that. It's 3.0.0.6 that can handle both.

Clockworkmod replaced by ext4

Haha I had the same experience. It was ARHD. Totally weirded me out at first, but now I'm glad it happened. 4ext is seriously amazing, especially if you get the paid Recovery Control app to go with it.

I was surprised by this as well. Out of nowhere, my recovery was changed because I installed ARHD. It's not something I would've done intentionally, and it seems like a weird thing to include in a ROM.
I guess it's not a huge deal since it seems to work, but Clockwork Recovery has been around a lot longer and the slightly cleaner interface of this new recovery doesn't IMHO make up for the possible decrease in reliability.
Just so you know, this recovery is based on clockwork recovery and there has been lots if testing before releasing. The developer team is very active in xda as well.

I'm not sure what version comes with the latest ARHD, but you can use the Recovery Updater app to upgrade your recovery to the touchscreen version.
Or if you feel like supporting the dev, you can get the paid Recovery Control, which lets you automate flashes and wipes before the reboot so you never have to navigate another recover menu again.

Most don't NEED to buy the program. Some like I would like to "pay back" the dev for making such a great app for us. Just my .02.
It's only a few bux. Less than starbucks coffee latte.
I had found the same, and honestly was a bit disturbed that it was flashed automatically. I had a wtf moment when I first saw it as I like you have always used cwm since jf 's was replaced in my g1 days and immediately flashed back cwm. After doing some research I am now, and have been for a while on ext4 and haven't had any negative impressions
G1 days? that was all about Amon-Ra recovery! wish he still made them :/, i always used his recoveries, until i got a HTC G2 and only recovery was CWM, and i always had issue with it, till this day the g2 still has Recovery issue,i respect Koush, and his hard work bring his recovery to SO many phones but after flashing 4ext and playing around with it i say i like 4ext better, already has better features, and the paid app is lot cheaper to buy than ROM manager

I'm guessing since the new WP is the exact same device as the android version it sounds possible. If it happens I'll definitely give it a try.
It would be interested if I could I could load up windows on my HTC one. Too bad it is only on Verizon's overpriced network.
Very interesting, I'd love to try out Windows on a phone but I can't really afford to just go and buy a phone to try it soo this would definitely be a + for me. Hopefully someone will make a way to dual boot or maybe port MultiROM to the M8 if Windows will work on our Android versions of the M8.
This is the only way I would actually try a Windows Phone, so if it can be ported, I would likely try it. Though I doubt I would stick with it too long...but who knows.
Anyone remember safestrap or boot menu manager?

This reminds me of the HD2, you could run all kinds of OS on them. It would be great if we could dual boot WP8.1 and also Android.

Yes, I was hoping someone could create something similar to that for the M8 or maybe even port one of them to the M8. I'd LOVE to be able to dual boot AOSP and Sense ROM's or even Windows & Android in the future maybe.
Hopefully this works
I'd be interested - I've been wanting to play around with Cortana.
That didn't come out right...
I smell a bounty thread for dual booting coming.....
And I would be on board!!

As would I!
Heck yes for a real dual boot, I'm in for $100
A safestrap compatible ROM would be perfect since it wouldn't touch the bootloader
I agree with you!

Only thing I wonder about is the how different the partition structure might be. That might prevent a safestrap type solution.

Yeah...I remember reading something that the GPE ROMS alter the partition size so its not smooth coming back to a sense ROM etc after it...
But I'm all in for going dual boot if it happens. I'd actually would use Windows phone at work as it would integrate better and be more useful...then as soon as I leave for the day boot back into android.

True but even if twrp were to integrate slots like safestrap, it would be nice. Then all we'd need would be a port and I'm sure the port will be here with in the next few weeks.
Even if there wasn't a dual boot option, but just a way to flash W8 for a day, then restore back to Sense, I would be thrilled. I always wanted to play around on a Windows phone
