[Q] Overflow button - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I normally use Xposed Framework just to get rid of the pesky overflow menu button.
Noverflow was the module I used.
Is there any way to do that without having to use Xposed?
Would like to get rid of Xposed, since it causes problems on certain roms.

There's no option on CM11S to remove the menu button. You'd need to research which custom ROMs have that ability. Or just keep using Xposed.

Multiwindow or Floating window?

I have Calkulin's Rom installed and I like it very much. However, I'd like to have the ability to multi-window or floating window.
Is there any way this is possible?
Thanks!
Unless I'm missing something, I'd have thought that Xposed Installer with xhalofloatingwindow should work in most stock Android based configurations:
1. Make sure you have selected 'install from unknown sources' in security settings
2. Install the Xposed Installer from here - http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer.
3. Follow the instructions in Xposed, (ie install and reboot) then from within it install xhalofloatingwindow. I think another reboot is needed, then tinker with setting until it's the way you want it. I've been trying to combine it with Switchr to as a floatingwindow menu with limited success, though it's mostly cos Switchr keeps crashing.
Thanks that works like a charm!

Integrate PIE + Hide virtual buttons ... is it possible?

I have no experience with Xposed modules (how they integrate, etc.)
So my question is: Would it be possible to integrate the PIE menu from Cyanogen (like GravityBox did), and to hide the virtual navbar by default?
I mean to do this by modifying a stock firmware and make that into a flashable zip.
The virtual navbar thing should not be so hard. The xposed module that does this, already gives a few clues.
But the PIE menu. CyanogenMod integrates it, without Xposed. So it _should be_ possible.
Modules:
- LG PIE: http://repo.xposed.info/module/hk.valenta.lgpiesupport
- PIE - GravityBox[KK]: http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.ceco.kitkat.gravitybox
- PIE - Cyanogenmod: http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/34026/
Anyone?
So I checked both project's source code.
It looks simple enough, but I will have to check the Lollipop update's code if it's possible to somehow integrate it.
To be honest I would not even need any other Xposed modules really.

Xposed Framework now working on Idol 3

With the recent release of framework 71 released here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811 xposed framework can now be installed on the idol 3 without causing boot loops. Xposed for Lollipop is still in alpha so you may find that some modules still don't work but the handful I tried including gravitybox for lollipop worked fine. Xposed also has a module to fix a memory leak in 5.0.x roms which I highly recommend running. Make sure you install the arm64 framework along with the apk....if you run into issues you can flash the uninstaller via recovery and it will remove the framework.
There are many modules available now to customize the stock rom.
Thanks for your information.
I am so excited to try it.
I would like to confirm, do I just need to root my phone and then install xposed? If I failed, is it only way to flash uninstaller via TWRP recovery?

Well Xposed requires root so yes you will have to be rooted...if the xposed framework fails to boot you can run the xposed uninstaller. You will need to inquire in the xposed for lollipop thread I linked to for more details and directions.
All I did however was flash the xposed amd64 framework 71 zip file (from TWRP and then rebooted into the ROM) and then installed the xposed-installer 3.0 alpha apk....then I went into the framework section in the apk and it showed the framework was installed and working...I've since loaded a handful of modules: (App Settings, BootManager, Fix Lollipop Memory Leak, GoogleOfflineVoice, Gravitybox [LP], Network Speed Indicator, Notifyclean, Rootcloak (can be used to hide root from the system update checker so you can check for updates as normal however don't DOWNLOAD them till you've fully unrooted), Secure Settings Xposed Module, Statusbar download progress, StopSwitchDelay, XInstaller, XInternalSD and XVoice+) all of which seem to be operating normally.
YouTube adaway works for me
If anyone finds a way to add reboot to bootloader and recovery to the power down menu I'd like to hear about it. All the modules I've tried (APM, gravitybox etc) have failed.

I've been using the app "RebootManager"....I've used QuickBoot in the past but was hoping to find either a way to enable it in settings or a way to enable it in xposed but don't seem to be able to replace or add to the "power down" menu in the idol. Annoying. I also remember there being a module to make the kindle app act more like an ebook reader but it must not be compatible with Lollipop since I don't see it in the module list.

EDIT: Nevermind, was for Samsung devices only.
Thanks for the news on Xposed. Will definitely have to install it later.

Yeah, I tried some of the Xposed modules that are supposed to do that... None of them work, I expect because Alcatel has 'skinned' the reboot dialog. It certainly doesn't look like the stock Android one.
does the XPrivacy module work?
you might try toggles

i use a app called "Power Toggles" toggles can be added to taskbar, widget and lock screen. most toggles do not need root but some do. there is a toggle i use that gives shut down options when clicked. the options are as follows, ( power off , restart , recovery mode , bootloader. ) this app works sweet as i have the toggles to pull down from taskbar on any page, you can also create your own shortcuts as a toggle. i have been using this app on several devices for 3 years. does not need xposed. Note this does not add these options to your power button.
finally! so happy to have xposed running on this. gravity box is a must. mix it with xposed gel settings (to hide app dock) and use custom key from gravity. i can finally hide my annoying bluetooth icon, apps, and clock "am/pm" too.
one funny thing to note. the default launcher allows double-tap on homescreen to sleep the device but it doesnt work on the lockscreen. gravity box has the option to allow doubletap on lockscreen to sleep. but since i switched to GNL it seems double tap to sleep on homescreen doesnt work no more.

Thanks for the reply. I use an app called Hangar that puts the 7 most "popular" icons you use at the bottom of the notification list or you can optionally pin a specific icon....so I have pinned the rebootmanager icon there...I also considered using an xposed module to define holding down power button to call rebootmanager directly but don't think it's a good idea to override a main button like that...anyway Hangar counts the time you spend in each app to determine which icons to show..has ended up working quite well. Hangar has an xda thread in android apps & games and you can add a 2nd row of icons should you wish to.

Install an app called "screen off" and then assign that app to be called for a double tap in your launcher (or at least that's what I did in nova launcher) and it works fine....still more accurate then the double tap to wake.
@thatguy52 you have xposed gel settings working? I try it, but nothing work for me, have a message that gel launcher not installed

I've received my Idol 3 today.
I booted to twrp (without installing it) and could root it and install xposed.
GravityBox works fine as weel as Network Speed Indicator.

If you are going to root why not go ahead and flash TWRP so you can enjoy all of it's benefits? Root access with filemanager, adb access etc?
The default recovery does not have reboot to bootloader for 2 models of the 6045.

I have a 6045Y bought in France. Don't know about the reboot to booloader from recovery.
I only needed root for xposed, link2sd, root explorer and titanium backup.
Didn't really need to have TWRP flashed.
I had in mind, that could be easier to unroot and get OTA update if i don't flash TWRP. That's maybe wrong thought.. (?).

Securing stock/Slim ROM

I'm looking for ways to bolt down security on the stock Sony ROM or the slim ROM. I'm on slim 4.9 right now. I have all the standard security items in place)(Pin protection, malware scanners, FOSS apps when I can) but I'm looking for some more specific things. I'm looking for a feature that's in cyanogenmod. I want the ability to deny apps the capability to access things they don't need. For example, if a messaging app needs my mic, deny access to that.
Is this doable with xposed? I know next to nothing about the xposed framework.

Yes, that's also possible on stock or stockbased rom's, regardless of the device. And yes, you need Xposed (and of course root for that).
Install Xposed Installer by rovo89 (you need xposed-v80-sdk22-arm.zip [you need to install it via recovery, e.g. TWRP] and XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4.apk for your device).
Right after flashing the zip, wipe cache and dalvik/art, then reboot. After the reboot, install the alpha4.apk (don't forget to enable "unknown sources" in "Security" of the "Settings" tab before). Right after that, open "Xposed Installer" app tap "Framework" -> "Reboot" and confirm the root access.

Magisk systemless + Gravitybox v7.0.4 module works on stock

Enough said really. If you don't know about GravityBox module, you can use it to perform a good amount customization on menus, button actions, lock screen, etc. For example, 30 volume step mod, circle battery with percentage, randomization of pin numbers on lockscreen, extended power menu with reboot options/screenshot/screen recording, etc.
Grab the regular (NOT the non FBE version).
It can be found here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/app-gravitybox-v7-0-0-tweak-box-android-t3653953
If you don't have Xposed systemless installed, download and install the sdk25 version (download zip and add module from magisk manager) from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-systemless-xposed-t3388268
As always, Xposed systemless framework enabled will cause SafetyNet to fail. So if you want to use Snapchat, Android Pay, Pokemon GO, Mario GO, new versions of Netflix, etc.; you'll have to disable the framework and then reboot currently. This hasn't been an issue for me so far!
Have you had any luck with any Magisk's modules? I can't get them to work. I can't get any black out apps to work via TRWP flashing either. It's gotta have sitting to do with the a/b partition, right?

The Xposed framework systemless v88.2 is the only module I actually have in magisk. Most magisk modules don't seem to have been updated for the magisk systemless 14+ betas.
Ok, after a couple of reboots, I got a few of them to work. BusyBox, Greenify, and the black themed injected YouTube back ground playback (which is amazing BTW) are all working now. Although, my phone doesn't pass safetynet now.
Does status bar colouring work on GravityBox on the Essential? I ask because colouring the status bar black across all system and apps would basically give an illusion of equal top and bottom bezels but with light up notifications and icons which imo would look pretty cool and hide the camera notch.

This is great, thanks for the headsup. Being able to use GB+xp makes running stock an awesome experience AND I get to use the 360 cam.
The cam is really the catz azz .
don't use AP as my cc app works regardless.
