HTC One (M8) for Windows - HTC One M8 for Windows

Windows joins the HTC One Family
Windows Phone fans, today is the day that you’ve been waiting for since we announced the M8 earlier this year. Introducing the HTC One (M8) for Windows, the first time an iconic flagship device is offered on multiple operating systems – Android and now Windows.
“Consumers love the HTC One (M8) and today’s introduction extends that enthusiasm to new audiences hungry for choice in their mobile experience,” said Jason Mackenzie, President of HTC Americas. “HTC fills a gap in the market for unique devices that put a premium on form and function. Microsoft shares our vision, and that’s why we committed to providing the best experience with the HTC One (M8) on the Windows Phone platform.”
This phone is an M8 in its core, offering the same premium and unique experiences that are standard, including HTC BlinkFeed, HTC BoomSound, Duo Camera with UltraPixel technology, a 5MP wide-angle front-facing camera and support for the HTC Dot View case.
Under the hood is Windows Phone 8.1 Update, which incorporates a host of meaningful innovations:
Cortana, Windows’ truly personal digital assistant, makes her HTC debut in this phone. Adept at searching for sushi and setting calendar appointments, Cortana also offers the ability to proactively warn you when it’s time to leave for your next appointment or remind you to pick up milk on the way home.
Action Center provides one swipe access to all your recent notifications and messages, as well as programmable quick settings.
Apps Corner sandboxes apps and folders into a protected area of the phone and allows users to separate personal and professional information, creating distinct experiences for work and pleasure in a single device.
Windows Phone takes on the chores of battery, data and storage management, and keying in passwords for known Wi-Fi networks, allowing users more time to explore the phone’s innovative functionality that truly puts consumer needs first.

Thanks for the URL.
The last one was closed because there was no official announcement. This is the official announcement, and it seems to be called M8 not W8, so...

so will we not know about the bootloader compatibility/possibility of WP8.1 port until a dev gets their hands on one?

Man this brings flashbacks to the mighty HD2 days

Really clever move, will b buying the m8 if this becomes a viable option on the android m8

how i miss the HD2 days! cant wait! The rise of the ultimate mod phone?

Dualboot ? Will be amazing !!

Yes the m8 is the new hd2 i think
Meaby the darforce team an new mgldr for the m8 :fingers-crossed:

Yep. I say we need a system dump and Cotulla here

This has awesome possibilities! Can you imagine dual booting Android or WP8 on your HTC M8? This phone just keeps getting better!

Bring on the Dual BOOT!!

Do you think it will work on carriers other than Verizon if it does in fact work?

Possible it can be ported to the M7 also!! That would be great.

I don't think so...unfortunately. but anything is possible!

I'll just leave this here...

Verizon M8.. Identical hardware.

Its Official
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...l&selectedPhoneId=8391&selectedContractTerm=2

lets be honest; most people wouldn't touch a windows phone with a 10 foot pole, and this phone wont change that much; its not the phone that makes windows phones so un desireable, its the OS itself, and lack of apps and developer support.

And its finally its released:
http://atherakber.us/htc-one-m8-windows-phone-8-1-announced-details/

After getting my G3 Cat.6, the M8 is my secondary device. Because of that, I'd be more than happy to give it some Windows Phone treatment if possible, however I'm guessing there'll be some hoops getting it from Verizon to GSM.

I think it will be good for new motorola's devices but I think they wouldn't do anythink for our phone because of make an update cost money and they can't win by doing this because this phone is no more for sale.
I can't decide if this matters. On the one hand, we're now two corporate restructurings removed from a company that gave a **** about the XT720 (Motorola [small **** given] > Motorola Mobility [no ****s given] > Google [patent warfare]). On the other hand Google has legendary awful customer support. It seems like a heads Sanjay wins, tails I lose situation.
i'll say it's extremely good news
this should help improve Motorola's phone to have unlocked bootloader and stock AOS, without all the bloatware they always put on it
I don't suppose we'll receive an update for an unlocked bootloader, no? Probably not because it seems Motorola will continue to operate separately from Google

I've never seen any indication that Google disapproves of the bootloader lock. They do disapprove of the lack of updates, but I'm sure we missed the boat on that.

Yes, couldn't have said it better myself. Most phones have support that barely lasts 2 years. I think this is the end of the XT720. On the brighter side, this will help google fight of apple and microsoft which were just trying to dominate the market with the patents. I see this as a good move for android/opensource as a whole!
With the capability to manufacture its own hardware, Google will be better equipped to take on the iPhone. That should be good.
Google World Domination Coming soon to a world near you.

Google needs Motorola to take over your living room
Google Evil Agenda
My original prediction:
Posted by Urgo at December 16, 2004 11:31 PM
"Don't Be Evil?" video - beta version
Google Xistence
For the past year now I've been predicting that within the next ten Google will 'take over the world'. Most people I tell this two think I'm crazy and this will never happen saying that Google is the best company ever and they will never turn evil. I tend to disagree.
Let me take just a few minutes to explain why I think this, and then at the bottom of this entry is a link to a flash video I found today with someone else thinking the same thing.
Facts - Google owns:
- Google is the most used search engine
- Gmail, while maybe not the most used email provider (maybe it is now?) it is definitely the most highly desired
- Orkut, while mostly blown over now is still a thriving social network site
- Google News is viewed as a #1 news site for many people
- Blogger is one of the leading blog sites and blogs are all over the news these days
- Keyhole offers a satalite imageing service
- Google Desktop Search
- Google Adsense - probably the most widly used advertising on the web these days (used even on this website although I haven't seen any return yet)
- And much much more, plus all the things normal people like myself have come up with such as the random google image in the right sidebar.
My point to all of this is the following:
Through GMail Google stores and never deletes your email. They catalog it and can do a LOT with that data. With time google can write robots to parse the data to find out every bit of data about you, who you know, what you talk about, etc. Gmail bundled with Orkut Google really has a solid grip on your social network with more detail and structure than email alone. Google knows who [email protected] really is, where he lives, what his passtimes are, etc and can link it up with your email conversations. Now to get even further into your life they have the Google Desktop Search which has already been called on being invasive bypassing security on people's PC's and cataloging files that it shouldn't.
Step back for a second, Google now knows who you know, what you talk about, details about every person, everything you say on your computer, what files you have, what is in each file, basically all of your Digital Data. Oh, also if you use the google search bar (IE plug-in) in advanced mode (default.. plus ohh! I want advanced features....) they track every webpage you go, although the desktop search tool does that as well. 0wned.
Next we start to see Google's current revenue. Blogs, Keyhole, Adsense. Wow, if the inflated stock doesn't make them enough $$$ then this sure helps. Although I don't believe Google charges for blogger right now they are setting themselves up for it in the future if blogging ever takes off as a legitimate news source... News.. Google news is one of the most used news services to gather news from many sources, sorted automatically for relevance...
Now, just think if Google DID want to turn evil (assuming they aren't already) how much of the market they already own. In the 90's people switched search engines all the time, but moving email providers, etc is a lot harder to do. In a few more years they'll have people so dependant on them and their products just like Microsoft people will be stuck with Google for better or.. worse.
More info on Google being evil is at google-watch.
Wow, well this was supposed to be a very short blog entry promoting a clip I saw today but I had to get my rant over with. Other then the Google-watch site that’s been around for a while, today on mefi I stumbled into a 10? min flash movie someone made giving a detailed rundown of a possible scenario that Google might take in the coming years towards world domination. I personally haven't come up with a scenario myself, and I am uncertain if this one is how its going to happen, but I was happy to see that others feel the same way as I do, that within the next ten years Google will takeover the world, or in this movie, the media forcing the New York Times offline.
Please take the time to watch this movie, and ignore the somewhat cheesiness of it. I really think they are being insightful and this COULD happen.

Google's Motorola Takeover Bid To Draw Antitrust Scrutiny, Analysts Say
I forgot that Motorola Mobility makes cable-top boxes. That's a plus for GoogleTV which I think is also Android based? Or is that Chrome based? I forget.
Today's android news keeps getting more and more interesting. First google and moto and now Cyanogen and Samsung.
"Steve Kondik, better known as Cyanogen, the father of CyanogenMod, has posted an interesting update to his professional life on his Facebook page. Steve, who has founded the largest family of custom Android ROMs on the planet, has just joined Samsung Mobile to presumably work on Android-related goodies for one of world's largest electronics manufacturers." -Android Police
(Can't post links yet, check Android Police)
Two developments which hopefully do nothing but improve the quality of the Android OS.
Good..Now Google control both software and hardware can make better opened source devices...stupid moto is dying , may google takes over and unlock all the moto build mobile deveice bootloaders
I was thrilled when reading about it. One of the main problems is that Moto seems to fail to optimize their hardware with the software. Meaning that, despite having powerful specs in several of their phones, it stills ends up being laggy and buggy. How is it that the Nexus S with its single core can outlag the Atrix? or even the Nexus One? resolution, graphics and processor needs to be better developed for usage.
Other than the bloatware, I find the Motorola developers really fail to take advantage of the specs and integrating it with Android.
Hopefully, the Moto and Google developers can get together and finally fix this problem. Specs mean nothing if the phone can't use it efficiently.
I'm pretty sure everyone will celebrate if Moto announces that they are switching to google stock, and turning motoblur into only widget apps, instead of a launcher apk. It still boggles my mind how companies can continue to push such applications, and this applies to Sony Ericcsons terrible Timescape app. it was already a trainwreck on the X10.

Will this ever be possible?

We are now near the Tango release and Windows 7 hasn't changed that much at all; it is still very limited as far as customization or generic functions compared with it predecessor. With that said has anyone gotten any closer to creating the ability to create a custom start screen wallpaper? Or will this ever happen at all?

I don't like transparency and the glossy IE icon...
I don't like it too. Or maybe I have grown accustomed to the black background. Choice is good though.
Anyway, MSFT has announced that there won't be custom wallpapers in Windows 8, while it is in metro mode.
I guess it will be the same for Windows Phone.
Well that's just disapointing; at this rate I don't see WP going any where but down hill with it's you can't do this or that restrictions.
1 out of 4 posters are happy with black background and WP will go downhill? :|

Metro style is that what you will se of MSFT over the next years, because it is an eyecatcher, look at other operators that "steal" this style that msft make popular. if they stick with if long enough they will gain succes! all the fancy stuff that was from 1990 till 2010 was just personification that was "not necessary". and plus it needed more resource to work. all the little things like shadows under icons, gloss, metallic, transparent tiles, transparent icons, aero style, everything is just the past. Metro just lives on. and give it a chance, iOS had this chance with it blueish iOS on phones, and android had it chance with colorful styling, just give metro a chance and it will win, because it is NEW, FRESH, LIGHT, UNSTRESSED, FAST, MODERN and many more things. if anybody dont believe in msft with they metro style i suggest, sell your pc, buy a mac, or google device, sell your wp7 or in the future wp8. and uninstall windows 8, delete it, and move on like you wish to do
but believe me, ipad user would pay to get windows 8 on an ipad! dont be silly like them to want some other style that is not the style of your device! if you want another style, just switch...
and for the ones that want a change on windows 8, it is still the windows that you can modify like in the past. and the background picture is also only a picture on windows 8, and everything can be changed. everything that man can make, man can it change or destroy
Those transparent tiles and gloss with the cluttered background is painful to look at.
Give me simple, clean, clear metro any day over that garbage.
I highly doubt that anything like that will happen. What makes WP7 standout is the black background with the colored tiles. The photo you provided looks alot like Android, and that is terrible
The power of Metro is the simplicity
I'm on Android but I already try Launcher 7 to have a taste of what is WP7. And I agree with above, in your picture I personnally see more the background than the tiles and it not the aim, I think, of Metro UI (btw the transparency of your picture give me headache, no offense ).

I think it's great,except the IE icon..
i have set my wallpaper, but don't remember how.
it was an app that allowed it, but then i didn't like it for some other reason and deleted it.
the more i use this stupid windoesn't phone, the more i HATE it.
my old G1 is so much more versatile.

The iPhone is pretty successfull for a restricted OS, wouldn't you say?
I'm sick of people saying WP is 2. rate because it's limited yet the most popular phone OS ever is just as, or even more, limited.
I'll say what I said on the "can I install Android on my WP7 xxx handset" threads: choice is bad! I hope you never get to the level of customization where you can Androidify WP7's Metro.
LOL, having a start screen wallpaper won't Androidify the Metro at all, just allow for personalization. WP is really going no where just look at it's Market share will at least here in the U.S. To top it all off now all of a suddent for no apperent reason, I can't send picture attachments from my phone at all. I try to keep a posotive attitude towards the plat form but this is just rediculous. I am starting to dislike WP again little by little.

seriously? windows phone market share is growing in the us, last time i saw was at 7% and rising. The nokia lumia 900 is getting a lot of marketing, in may and june there will be even more marketing and now every employee must sell one of those phones monthly. If anything windows phone is getting on the rise now espically when att is sick of taking orders from apple and verizon and joining that bandwagon too.

Nokia is doing a good job and so are other phone makers like HTC there is no question about it but it is MS it's self that is holding back the full potential of what Windows Phone could be. Hopeful with the release of Windows Phone 8 this will all change but they just keep us holding out for nothing. And not to argue but 7% is nothing. I have a Windows Phone; you know how many other people have a Windows Phone? Maybe 1. The truth is the truth and the numbers speak for them selves.

Android experiences, which ultimately makes a large headache for developers trying to create an application that reaches all of them. I’ve tried nearly every single UI overlay out on the market today, and have continually placed LG near the bottom on my preferred list. Google’s stock Android is always first, followed very distantly by HTC’s Sense and Samsung’s Touchwiz, then distantly again by LG’s UI and MotoBLUR (or, whatever the heck they’re calling it now).
With the Optimus 3 overlay, LG promises a skin that is unobtrusive and simple to use. Sure, judging from the few pictures they’ve sent along, it does look like a toned-down version of LG’s Optimus UI, but it still has enough changes to the stock Android experience to leave a sour taste in my mouth.
Granted, my annoyances with Optimus UI’s app launcher can easily be fixed with a launcher replacement (which, I’d recommend you do immediately after powering on your LG device), changes to the notification bar and some of the included widgets are much more difficult, if not impossible, to change.
One thing I can say for sure, however, I definitely long for the day when there are multiple Nexus devices to choose from on multiple carriers.
PRESS RELEASE :
LG’S NEW OPTIMUS UI 3.0 ADDS NEW FEATURES
AND FUNCTIONS WHILE BEING UNOBTRUSIVE AND SIMPLE
New User Interface Makes the LG Smartphone Experience
Faster, Simpler, More Convenient
SEOUL, May 16, 2012 – LG Electronics (LG) is introducing a new User Interface (UI) for its newest Android Ice Cream Sandwich devices, aptly named Optimus UI 3.0. Optimus UI 3.0 brings with it an array of enhanced key features, including Quick Memo™ and unique unlock functions, among other new features and functions aimed at improving LG smartphone experience.
“With smartphone hardware becoming more and more similar, it’s important for manufacturers to differentiate their products from the competition through the user interface,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Both carriers and customers tell us that they want LG phones to look and feel unique and the UI plays a big part in that. LG is really going to push the boundaries of what is possible in user interfaces starting with Optimus UI 3.0.”
Optimus UI 3.0 is designed with convenience and speed in mind. A powerful memo function called Quick Memo™ enables users to jot notes on the screen using a finger. Quick Memo™ in Optimus UI 3.0 allows users to share their thoughts through social networks, text messages and e-mails more conveniently than ever before.
Other new features include:
– the ability to unlock the phone by dragging anywhere on the screen;
– a new Pattern Lock that allows users to preset the most frequently used function, such as the camera, which automatically opens once the phone is unlocked;
– a simpler version of Optimus UI 3.0 for new smartphone users which organizes the main applications so that they are the easiest to access;
– a new Voice Shutter that allows users to capture photos using only voice commands;
– a special camera feature that enables users to pick up the best shot among multiple images including the moment just before the shutter button is depressed;
– an Icon Customizer that provides an additional level of personalization by allowing users to set their own photos as icons and shortcut images;
– the addition of a Download category to the menu for easier organization.
Optimus UI 3.0 will debut on the LG Optimus LTE II launching this week in Korea, followed by LG Optimus 4X HD in June.

All eyes of the Android faithful will be squarely on Google this week, as the company is holding its annual Google I/O event in San Francisco. The three-day conference starts Wednesday and is aimed at developers, but is often used as a stage to show off new device and platform offerings for both consumers and enterprises alike.
Here’s a look at what is likely to be introduced even though Google could yet have some additional surprises. Source : GigaOm
An incremental software upgrade
Don’t expect to see or hear about Android 5.0. Instead, Google is more likely to show off Android 4.1, which goes by the code name of Jelly Bean. As a result, this won’t be an overhaul of Android like the jump from Honeycomb (Android 3.0) to Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0). I’m anticipating some minor visual updates to start; possibly some tweaked user interface element styles with a frosted glass, more industrial look.
With this being a developer event, Google should introduce some new APIs that allow programmers to tap into more of the features and functions of Android devices. One of those could be tied to an updated Google Voice Search app that is part search, part hands-free controller and part assistant, much like Apple’s Siri. At a minimum, I expect improved voice control features and I hope that Google opens up the functionality for third-party programmers to add in to their software.
Google’s GSM Galaxy Nexus is sure to first get Android 4.1 — possibly this week — but I anticipate another device to soon ship with Jelly Bean, directly from Google.
A showcase tablet: The Nexus 7
What better way to show off Android 4.1 than with a new device direct from the Google Play store? Look for a 7-inch tablet built by Asus for Google to be sold directly to consumers at a compelling price point. Early leaks haven’t been confirmed, but the alleged Nexus 7 is likely to be powered by Nvidia’s Tegra 3, use a 1280 x 800 IPS screen, and come in two models: 8 GB for $199 and 16 GB for $249. I’m hopeful that the device will offer a microSD card expansion slot when announced.
Although Google is expected to sell its slate via the web, I think there’s a reasonable chance that it announces some retail partnerships as well. A 7-inch Android tablet would compete against other small consumption-oriented slates available in various brick-and-mortar stores in addition to the web. Think of Amazon’s Kindle Fire and the Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet: Both can be test driven in stores, which helps customers make a better purchasing decision.
Other possibilities
I anticipate that at least in some small form, Google adds more integration between Android and Chrome. It could be an updated version of Chrome for Android, or perhaps the removal of the apps beta tag. Additionally, at some point, the stock web browser in Android is likely to give way to Chrome, and that could happen with Android 4.1
Those waiting for another Nexus handset are likely to be disappointed. Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus, while lacking in some aspects compared to the new Galaxy S III is still expected to be Google’s flagship phone. Google is more likely to introduce a new Nexus handset when it debuts the next major release of Android.
I foresee an off chance that Android 4.1 brings about more integration between an a phone and tablet both running the same operating system. With the Chrome browser, you can already open a tab on your phone and then view it on a tablet, but Google could add support for saving an app state in Android 4.1, allowing you to pick up one one device where you left off on another in nearly any supported app.
Google Docs on mobile devices could gain improved features thanks to Google’s purchase of Quickoffice earlier this month. I don’t think that Google will release any new functionality yet as it hasn’t had much time to integrate Quickoffice with Google Docs for mobile, but it could demonstrate what’s coming soon.
One other tidbit that Google will surely deliver: Plenty of numbers. Expect the company to tout the fast growing Android user base, which I anticipate is now a million device activations per day.

1- There is no mention of the screen protection for any of the phone and that is one of the biggest factor users think of while buying a new phone. A mention of such things in the specification sheet will probably increase the sale. Earlier it used to be dragontrail but lately that also vanished. What kind of screen protection is used and how about using the Gorilla Glass for better protection?
2- Source code and Kernel sources are released very slow and even though they are released, there is not much use as development has almost stopped after decision to stop providing bootloader code and allowing users to unlock their phone. What is the future plan to open the bootloader code program again? as users are paying heavy amount to 3rd party websites, so if they can provide the codes by various means, why can't Huawei/Honor?
Will Honor ever let users use a stock Android experience? Some people prefer it.
Will Honor have unlockable bootloader in the future?

Why are you now willing to let Huawei users unlock their bootloaders?
Why emui 9 restrict full theme customization.
I love my huawei nova 3i so much after updated to emui 9.0.1.156 its works super smooth
And will huawei or honor have unlockable bootloader in the future?
why can't we change quick settings icons like wifi, do not disturb, battery etc?
qué nos puede adelantar para un nuevo lanzamiento que no utilice ya otras marcas?
is it ip68 ?
Does Huawei/Honor have any plans to offer a "Stock Android" mode similar to ZTE's? It could still be a manufacturer skin that looks closer to stock. It's kind of a best of both worlds situation without your customers feeling they need to use 3rd party launchers.
Regarding the latest security issues about Huawei discussed in Europe, you think the actual and future versions of emui/magicui should end user be worried about privacy and security of their smartphone, as we see each day these are more and more used as an electronic wallet?
Hi, how do I install and use Ubuntu Linux system on my phone. I like experiments.

EMUI, like most other custom skins, feels very clunky and rich with gimmicky features. Is there any team that looks at the usage of these extra features and takes the call to remove them? Do you have any thresholds for what % of users should use a feature to call it useful?
I love the design and build.....
The notch was introduced so we can have more screen surface area.....
So all I'm asking is why the finger print sensor was brought to the front instead of maybe at the back.
When is EMUI9 stable coming for honor 8 pro
Any way that Google camera is easily installed on EMUI devices
Will the bootloader be unlockable?
Boot loader unlock
