[Q] Wifi signal?
Does anyone get a weak wifi signal with their Nexus S? Whenever I connect to my at home wifi I never get full bars and something I'll just randomly lose signal. Also it seems to go pretty slow. I used to have the Mytouch4G and it work flawlessly with the wifi. Anyone else having this problem?

OMG yesss I do.
Just about a room away I loose signal, almost completely. = 0
IDK, but I see more flaws every day that passes
Mine's been working fine over Wi-Fi. I'm pretty glad it does too, because my only data option with it is Wi-Fi..
Sent from my Droid using XDA App
Wifi has been working great for me. It reconnects automatically and doesn't drop. The signal seems on par with my nexus one.
Speed wise, is it on par with the 3G network?
[Q] Wifi does not work anymore after rooting :(
So, I unlocked my Android 2.3.1 and rooted it ... But if I click on wifi so I could connect to my modem it says Error and wont even search or anything. I tried reseting too but still no luck .. What is the problem and how to fix this ??
That's odd, I didn't have any issues with wifi as I connected to Android Market to downloaded ROM Manager during my rooting process earlier. Have you tried flashing a custom ROM on your device to see if it'll fix it?
No I didnt, would that work? .. A friend told me to install a new "kernel" but I dont want to overwhelm my android with custom made kernels .
your problem is you used one of the quick methods of rooting your phone, which used a kernel that wasn't from the exact rom you have.
if your on stock 2.3.1, you will need the stock 2.3.1 boot.img, and then you'll need to root it manually the long way via adb command line. search the nexus s development section for how-to's. they are all there.
i too had this problem, had to install MoDaCo ROM to fix it, but i dont regret rooting, i now have custom rom and over clocked cpu on the nexus s
you have two options, either to flash NANDROID backup to un-root and return to stock or install a custom ROM, i choose MoDaCo bcoz of its UI, it looks and feels just like the stock one.

Yes, that's the point of MoDaCo roms, to make minimal changes to the look and feel of the phone, but to improve performance with his custom optimizations.

Hi Guys,
I was able to connect to my wifi network for a day. I am using windows 7 machine as hotspot with connectify. From second day I am unable to connect to any wifi network. I did factory reset my nexus s but no results . Can some one help me how to solve this issue?
Observations:

*When i use dynamic ip I am unable to connect to wifi. It shows obtaining Ip and never connects.
*In connectify when I was able to connect to wifi the device is shown with an android device name. but now the device is shown as unknown.
Sorry for my bad english, I m not a native english speaker.
[Q] Nexus S Wifi Settings - force close
Hi all,
Just got a new Nexus S - all was well at home. Took it to work today and noticed something very odd. It was fine until entering the wifi settings menu - at which point it dramatically slowed down. I got two 'not responding, close or wait' messages before being able to join the network.... all other settings are fine - just the wifi area.
Weird - wondering what could cause this... too many wifi networks broadcasting (am in middle of London)...?
Anyone seen anything similar?

Too many WiFi around you shouldn't cause that.
Try rebooting and setting again if you haven't already.
Hmmm - rebooted and still have the same issue. At home, or even a block away from the office it all works fine. But in the office itself, although it connects and uses the wifi fine, the settings page is VERY slow to load and gives me the wait/force close message.
Out of interest - I also have 'wifi analyser' from the marketplace. This too is very slow and unresponsive when in the office.
So - it is definately something to do with the wifi here.... but have not got a clue what. Before I join the wifi, or when I am physically somewhere else it all works fine.
Wifi is WPA-TKIP, the key is a very long jumble of letters but surely that is not an issue.
Strange eh!!!

[Q] Possible WiFi problem?
Hi there, just bought a Nexus S, also used to have Nexus One.
The thing is for some wireless networks even though I enter the password correctly, it says connected and still there is no connection at all. (I mean browser tries to connect but at the end it says page could not be found) I even tried with an ad-hoc network that I created with my laptop but still the problem exists.
At home I'm able to my network without a problem. The type of network I'm trying to connect is: WPA2 Personal with AES. Is there any known issue about AES at Android system? Afaik there is no way to change the encryption used right?
this might actually not be a nexus S issue.
some modems/switches/routers are configured to block certain devices/applications/package's
we have a modem and router with both wifi.
but my psp/nDS cant connect to the modem, but can connect with the router

i have a similar problem. My Nexus S connects to my router only within a few hours after a router reset. Then it stucks at "obtaining ip" and never connected before I do another router reset.
My home wifi is WPA2 type, and for WEP type wifi my NS never got connected.
hey guys
today i received my n5 and i am very happy of that fact!
but at beginning i still have an issue - or hopefully not
model s/n 310xx
everything gone fine since starting the setup guide where it comes to connect to a wlan network. there are several listed in my region including mine (all are fritz boxes)
when i try to connect to any network and it comes to enter the password - i do
but then when connecting it does nothing, as if i pressed cancel
after that randomly the networks getting a status of "deactivated" - so the device is not even trying to connect to any
i got rid of it using the WPS method with my router and could connect, but that cant the the solution. i would not be able to connect to any network without WPS?!
i am still running the forced update at beginning (my connection is very poor over wlan and traffic of my h+/3g is gone before..)
so i hope it will be solved after update... but has anyone else made any experience like this?
after update all is fine. thread can be closed
Hey guys,
I'm having some issues with my Wi-Fi connectivity on my N5 and it's freaking me out! :crying:
When I'm trying to connect to my home network, the Wi-Fi icon is getting orange after some random time.
Some times it gets back to white, some times it's not.
I know its a known issue but nothing seems to fix it.
I tried everything - reboot my phone, reboot my router, reboot into safe mode, forget the network and connect again, toggle into airplane mode and back, change Wi-Fi settings to connect only to 2.4 GHz, avoid poor connections, update my router firmware.
NOTHING worked!
The only thing I haven't tried yet is factory reset but I read some people saying it didn't help them either.
Only turning Wi-Fi off and than on again makes it "white" again for some other random time.
I'm running stock everything on a rooted device with Android 4.4.4 build KTU84P.
My Wi-Fi is working great with other devices in the network including a Nexus 7 2012 and some laptops.
And it seems that my Nexus 5 is connecting fine to other Wi-Fi networks.
It worked fine in the past and I think it all went wrong when I replaced my Modem.
Any ideas what else can I try?
Do you think maybe the Lollipop update will fix this annoying issue?
Thanks!
Forgot to mention (I guess it is obvious) - I can't connect to any website or run any network connected app when I'm "orange" (I know it means I'm not connected to google services).
Tried also to change my Wi-Fi channel. still not working.
Doesn't anyone have an idea what is wrong here?
This is really frustrating ... :crying:
Well, I'm kind of talking to myself here, but in case someone else is facing this annoying issue, here is what fixed it for me eventually:
Configure a static IP to my phone in the router configurations ! :victory:
Before that, I also tried to disable Wi-Fi optimization in the phone Wi-Fi settings, buy it didn't seem to help.
Guys,
I'm not able to access internet through my wifi network since 3 days after the lollipop update .. The wifi network is working fine as others are able to connect and access internet but for only me it's not working.
I tried soft resetting the phone by holding the power and volume down key for 10 secs and also cleared the cache partition but to no avail.
Someone please help me out to sort out this problem as I really need internet to connect to essential services on my mobile. Thanks in advance, appreciate your help!
Are you running a custom ROM or kernel?
I got the update notification and downloaded the update.
So you're running a stock ROM and kernel? Are you able to access your data network over 3g?
I'm not sure about these terms but I just got the official update. Yes, I'm able to access internet on mobile data.
Sounds to be like something went wrong during the update process.
I have a custom ROM on my phone and, if I use the wrong kernel with my custom ROM, wifi does not work.
No.. The weird thing is I took it to get it checked at a mobile shop. When he connected to his Wi-Fi it was able to access the internet. It's not working only for my Wi-Fi network it seems. He was saying it has to be formatted but I don't want to lose my data ?
Guys, as a last resort I have finally formatted my mobile and backed up settings. Now, it's not even defecting my Wi-Fi network. And as said earlier, I'm able to connect and access internet on my other devices. This is really confusing I'm not able to figure out what's wrong. Many of my friends who have Moto G are also facing this same problem. I hope there's an upcoming update from Motorola to fix this issue asap. ?
Change channel
Change your wifi channel from your routrer settings page to under 12 wifi will work . Use channels 1-11 for lollipop roms .

I faced same issue few days ago..
Possible solution (try all one by one)
Switch encryption mode in wifi router (TKIP <=> AES)
Change name of wifi (Don't use space)
Change security type (WEP <=> WPA <=> WPA2)
After each step restart router and check if you can still connect.
Worked for me
Also check channel as mentioned by @ankushv ... AFAIK channel between 1-11 is must for most android phones
Thanks for your reply. When I checked my phone later sometime it showed my Wi-Fi network and I immediately connected it. But it works sometimes and doesn't at other. I hope google engineers are aware of this Wi-Fi issue and going to release a patch update soon.
A big bug encountered in 5.0.2 stock android version on my Moto G
Guyzz plzz help ,
i think this is a kind of bug encountered on my Non-rooted Pure Stock Motorola Moto g android version 5.0.2 ; i am facing problem of call dropping , voice skipping , when someone calls me I'm not able to listen other person's voice , sometimes voice skips , and same happens when someone calls me , when playing any audio/video my phone automatically stops it after seeking it up-to 3-4 seconds only , but when i connect my phone with my earphones or any external multimedia speakers then everything works fine. i tried factory/hard reset but didn't worked, wiped cache partition :crying:
Guys,
Just one quick question. Is the Wi-Fi connecting issue fixed in the new Android 5.1 lollipop update?
I have Lollipop 5.02 on my xt1032 and I have no problem connecting to and searching for networks.
Hey guys,
Having an issue with WiFi since the Marshmallow update. We have an open WiFi network at work that you need to sign in to the firewall to access internet. Previously it worked fine, but after the Marshmallow update, my phone constantly drops the WiFi network. It always happens when I lock the phone or otherwise let the screen turn off for more than about a minute, but it also happens even when I'm using my phone, if I'm on for more than about 5 minutes on average it drops the network. When I go to reconnect, it lists under the SSID "Internet not available" but I just tap the network and tap connect and it connects anyway, doesn't even make me sign into the firewall again. I'd really appreciate some help with this, if I can't get this fixed I'll be doing away with Android for good. I don't use my phone for much other than Facebook and games, so I'm not at all opposed to using a custom ROM if that would help. Just haven't installed one since CM7 on my HTC Evo Shift, so I duno which would be best for my situation. Thanks in advance for any input!
Bump. Hopefully someone has a solution...
One more bump before I give up...
Hi, I'm on stock firm, and after the last upgrade, I cannot connect to my work's wifi network. It's a EAP-MSCHAP2 connection. At home, wifi works flawlessly....

try talking to your system administrator at work. The upgrade may cause a comparability issue that maybe fixed by a simple tweak at work.
