Morning all.
I recently bought the Samsung Galaxy S2 (i727) off Amazon and want to update the firmware BUT Kies is not working on my computer. The problem is that Kies will not load and gives me the "send problem to microsoft" screen. When I purchased my first Galaxy Tab early this year, Kies worked but now it wont.
My laptop is an old Dell model so not sure if that is the problem.
I do not know how to root a device or install this rom or that file, so where does one go, who is a total newbie when it comes to updating a device.
Thanks all.

Oops, I didn't realize he was using a S3.
Which S3 are you using? If so then find the right forum for that phone for that carrier.
Start by finding the right forum for your phone. If you have theS3 go there not here.

I have a question about my galaxy s3 sch-i535 model from Verizon Wireless. I have understood that it looks easiest to do this process via windows, and I have messaged and inquired with many ppl about the best way to complete this process using a mac. Is there a guide I can use to do this? I've used windows computers before to do this and have eooted a motorola bionic but I havent been successful in finding a guide for doing this. Any help would greatly be appreciated (I actually even searched this site or tried to at least). Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you want you can send me a email at [email protected] . Thanks again!

For one your in the wrong section my good ol fellow and 2 the rooting boot loader unlock procedure only works on windows. I too use Mac. So here is how to solve the issue. Do it from a windows PC or get VMWare or Parallels and run a virtual machine of windows on your Mac. Note windows installation disk, .IMG is not included. Good luck.

Yes, there are guides out there to root your S3 from a Mac. Can you search this site? Yes, you can. Can you search using the all mighty Google? No, you cannot. Please utilize ALL of your available, and free resources before posting.
Here's your answer; all of these links by searching "rooting S3 mac" on Google and youtube

Unfortunately you can't root with CASUAL on jelly bean. If on 4.1.1 OTA you have to use ODIN, unless they get Heimdall working.

I was nervous to post this but then again, better to at least ask and to know than to let fear keep me in the dark (so to speak). So, the thing is this. i am trying to root my samsung galaxy tab 2 7.0 wifi only which is 4.1.1 (GT-P3113) UECLK7 but i stumbled on a problem. Yes, huge thanks to Mr. Chainfire for giving us CF-Auto_Root, but when i put my tab in download mode, there was no blue status bar showing any progress, but it ended up saying
1. that i dont have OMAP4430 Driver installed and
2. that i dont have samsung usb driver installed.
i dont understand why and was wondering if anyone could please tell me how to fix this? and where can i find this OMAP4430 driver and samsung usb driver too? ive searced through google so much looking for this OMAP4430 driver till my eyes started burning. i really would appreciate the help. sincerely.

Hi, I am having the same problem with a Samsung Tab 2 7.0 GT-P3110 (wi-fi only). Could you please let me know where you were able to find the right driver?
Same, I can't get it to connect.

Install Samsung Kies, which will install the drivers for you. Then you can uninstall Kies unless you think you'll use it.
Sorry if i seem a bit curious but what was it after all, because you didn't cleared that up and what was it that it dose in the Android OS?! I ask this because i recently switched to Android 4.1 on tablet. Also why do you need to root a Samsung Tab? I know they have enough internal memory and if not an SD card will solve it.

Except if you want to use the external for apps one would need to be rooted. It is also good for using bloatware blockers and many other apps which require root access. It gives one more control over his/her device. Which is most of the fun of having an android device, IMO.

True, on a rooted device you can install non-market apps and if you have enough knowledge in Android modding and courage you can put more customized ROM-s.
The drawback : loose the client warantee from the producer.

Hey XDA! My brother and I are having a problem with his Verizon GS3. After a fight with it we finally got it completely rooted (we rooted it while he was running 4.1.1 stock) . Every time we try to flash a ROM the phone does it and then during boot up it gives an error message. Something along the lines of "unauthorized software has been detected. Please go to your nearest Verizon store to restore your device." not exactly what it says but close to that (I don't have it in front of me right now). Does anyone know what could be wrong and how to fix it?

Boot loader was locked upon ROM flash.
Vzw ez unlock for Verizon galaxy s3 will unlock it.
If you can not find in play store.
Google it and you can download and place on SD card to install the app that way.
Make sure you are rooted

Isn't the boot loader unlocked in the first step? The boot up screen with the Samsung logo has the unlocked symbol on it. Sorry for the dumb questions, the only device I've rooted is my Galaxy Nexus and that was a breeze.

No its still locked use the ezunlock and it should let you flash a rom.
It really is. Hopefully when the X-Phone comes out it will be easy like the Nexus. Rooting the GS3 has been such a nuisance. Thanks for the help everyone! I'll report back with how it goes.

So ezunlock is no longer available on the play store apparently. Every link that was supposed to take me there didn't work, just says it "We're sorry, the requested URL was not found on this server." Any other apps that I could use?
Hopefully this works. Threw the apk up in my drive. I'm not going to leave it there long, so grab it quick. Make sure to allow installs from unknown sources in developer settings.
Removed URL
Post here when you have it.
Edit: Removed the URL since I'm not going to leave it up all night. Google ezunlock, it's literally the first link you see.

You can't install a software from another device/model on yours. It'll brick it. I think your friend is lying as well? My apologies if its legitimate but I just checked and found no software for s5 working on the note 2
5S rom

Its beside that possible to install a look a like rom
For note 2 see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dU6g2UfjVx8
For S3 See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/rom-blekota-s5-lite-beta-4-5-1-t2752331
This Called searching
If you find an individual APK to install, you might not brick your phone. I've been trying to find the S5 camera app for my S2. It didn't work, but it didn't brick it.
@jorandobnl
I did. I searched for many look a like roms but i wanted the same thing..not just a theme or a really close one..
Thanks for the help anyways
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Apparently Kitkat OTAs for the Galaxy S3 include the S5 theme
You just need to edit your device name in the build.prop file
