[Q] Software Issue, Help? - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey fellow xda members! I've had my oneplus for probably a couple of weeks now and have loved it until this issue I'm having since the 4.4.4 update. So, it all started after the update the phone rebooted and I kept getting messages saying unfortunately cm logger has stopped. Same with the calender app which now force closes every time I go to open it. Upon the issues surfacing first thing I try is to uninstall and reinstall updates on the apps for the calendar which didn't resolve this issue so currently I just have it disabled. After that I decided well if I have to I will just do a factory reset. To my surprise I actually am unable to do a factory reset and just says it fails part way in. Hopefully some people around the forum with more cyanogen knowledge than myself can help me out! Ticket is already submitted to customer support but just want to attempt asking here as well in case it is something anyone can help me with. Feel free to leave suggestions to try I am willing to do anything to help it. Thanks a lot!
I found some information over at the OPO forum but no for sure answers. One idea was to unlock the bootloader because it causes an automatic reset since I can not do one from CM Recovery. Anyone feel free to comment on if this would work.
Sincerely,
Jackson
P.S. I am still pretty new to the whole modding of android devices and may not know common practices known by most people on the forum so feel free to add a little more description with a potential fix)

If your phone is acting up and ready to wipe everything ..Just go to settings..back up and reset..It will erase all..like you just bought the phone..Make sure you back up your fules or what not that you need..

Thanks for the reply but my issue is, I actually can't factory reset it because I receive an issue/error whenever I attempt it.

Unlock the bootloader, this will reset the phone like its new again
This will also make things easy if you ever decide to root, and you can also flash twrp recovery
One thing to note, this is important, your SD storage will also be erased, so move any data from it to a PC or Google drive etc.
Bootloader unlock is your best bet, this will help your situation in more ways than one.
There's plenty of guides in one plus forum.

[Q] Important Help please. Nexus One Rebooting

Hi, I'm quite upset and I don't really know what to do. You see, I bought I Nexus One and since I'm a computer tech (Network is my strong point and I also got a Professional diploma of informatics support)I thought I could go and mod my thing out. Thing is everything worked fine until I downloaded Cyanogen with Rom Manager Premium (Crack3d)and tried to install it. At first it simply shut down the screen, rebooted a few times and restarted normally, then I retried downloading and it brought me to the reboot in recovery mode to install cyanogen popup. Clicked ok and then it rebooted another 3-4 times and when it came back, it was cyanogen splash screen bugging and rebooting in the middle of the loading. I have Android SDK if that changes anything, I just really don't even know how to bring any sort of menu from my pc or my phone.
P.S. I didn't cleared cache and didnt do any backup[thats no that important].
Thanks

First, please don't double post. You don't need to start two threads for the same problem.
Second, I'd start by searching the nexus one forum, reading through the wiki, then, if you still have questions or need assistance, posting in the nexus one q&a forum.

What's this 'cracked' thing you mention? I truly hope you're not saying it was a warez copy that you downloaded to avoid paying for it? The App developer posts his work on this forum and would just love to meet you!
You started flashing custom ROMs without doing a backup? Bit unusual for a 'computer tech' with a 'professional diploma' to be so reckless.

[DEV & CWM Recovery for Pantech Crossover]

Forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong section. Forgive me if I'm not allowed to post here yet. Just forgive me in general. I don't want to be banned or anything like that. I'm Extremely interested in android development.
I made a working port of ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.8 for the Pantech Crossover. I wanted to do this before I started tinkering around with porting cm7.2. So that I would have a way to backup, restore, and flash new roms, etc... Or else when I make a noob mistake like yesterday and have a non booting phone resulting in having to flash my old boot.img with fastboot...anyways..
DANGER: DRAGONS AHEAD
FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
The method I used to flash the recovery was:
1)adb push recovery.img /sdcard/recovery.img
2)flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
3)repeat step 2 (for some reason it gave me a read error out of memory the first time)
Here's the link to the custom recovery:
http :// dl. dropbox .com /u/20070520/ recovery.img
I know I'm not supposed to post links yet. Remove spaces
I just hope that there are others with the Pantech Crossover that are interested in this and the possible future development of custom roms.
Also if anyone knows if there is a good way to get ahold of koush let me know, so I can give him what he needs to hopefully add this to Rom Manager. I couldn't message him on github because he doesn't have an email set up with it
And while I'm at it. Here's the method for rooting your crossover. I'm not going to provide the files since they can easily be found with a google search.
1: Find a copy of gingerbreak.apk and copy it to your sd card
2: Enable usb debugging and allow installation of non market apps
3: Install gingerbreak
4: Root device with Gingerbreak
5: You can uninstall Gingerbreak when its completed.

Thanks so much for this! I have a friend with a crossover and is always looking for my help with making it work better. I realize this is a newer thread, I was wondering how things were coming along with CM? Anything I can do to help perhaps?
crap i need a rom to fix my crossover the buttons are no longer mapped after a hard reset. please help.
Slow
Well, it's been slow goings so far. I downloaded the open source files for the p8000 and it looks like they just built the original rom from a generic build. I've been trying to get a more customized build setup but I need to do some more reading so far. One of the problems is that instead of an akmd(2) binary for orientation and compass it uses three separate modules. Plus the hci_attach is a bit different as well and so is the bluetooth. So that significantly hampers the ease of even a basic port.
As far as the gentleman with the question about a rom to fix your device. The best I can do right now is to upload a clockwork mod backup after I do a factory reset. I don't get much time to work on this between my wife and daughter.
Also, do you have adb access to your device? Surely it wouldn't be too difficult to adb push the correct keymapping files back to your phone.
You say a hard reset messed up your mappings? What problems were you experiencing prior to the reset?
Crossover
Hello,
I just wanted to let you know that there are people watching your thread. I am very interested in this as my parents have Crossovers and have recently rooted and unlocked them (well, I did) and set them up to work on Net10.
The only issue I've noted is that there are some failures, like the Market refusing to install apps no matter what is done. I'm going to install your ClockworkMod in hopes that later it might be useful.
I realize there isn't a large development scene for the P8k yet, and maybe there won't be but it's always a great hope that those with the capabilities might take pity. I was almost thinking that it might be my foray into actually looking deeper at the code than the small bit I've done.
Kind Regards,

I haven't had any problems with the market refusing to install apps but I do sometimes run across the no connection error with the market when on wifi. Although I did notice this before I rooted my crossover. Sometimes disabling and re-enabling the wifi helps. I really do think it is a bug somewhere in the original rom.
As far as the custom recovery image. Everything seems to be working pretty good. I use it mainly for restoring previous backups. I would say I've restored my backup at least a dozen times. Occasionally it states there was an error restoring .android secure but I have yet to track that down. I need to double check the recovery.fstab to make sure I have everything set right for the mount points.

I'm actually completely stuck at this point. I'm rooted, unlocked, different carrier, APN set correctly. I can access data and voice -- but it just hangs at "Downloading..." on the market. If I factory reset it works initially but after reboot it fails. I'm not quite sure why this occurs and if it is just this phone or a side-effect of using it on a different carrier.
Strangely Wi-fi doesn't resolve it.

I'll give your recovery a run and let you know, if you manage CM7 let me know I know it's a big undertaking. Thanks for the response.
Market Error
As far as the Android Market hanging. I see a few references to it being cause by the .android_secure folder becoming corrupted on the sd card.
One temporary fix suggest moving all the installed apk's back to the phone memory and deleting the .android_secure folder. Then rebooting and moving those apps back to the sd card.
That seems like some wasted time if it doesn't happen to work. I would just turn the phone off, remove the sdcard, and restart (granted any apps that were moved to the sdcard wont work until it is reinserted.) Then I would try to download and install an app. If that works then shutdown, insert sd, and reboot.
I'm really curious if the problems with .android_secure that you and i are having aren't just more bugs in the original rom.
Just as a poster above me said, I am watching this thread and really appreciate everything you are doing. Thanks again.
Well I appreciate the support. I just hope to be able to offer a rom sometime soon. Unfortunately I won't have anymore free time till Tuesday

Pantech Crossover Update
Ahhhhh check out the pantech support page for the crossover. They finally have the Gingerbread update.

Which is great because I soft bricked my phone (don't ask) and this was going to be the only way to fix it.

anyone have a stock image of the 2.2 for android my phone came preupgraded to 2.3.6 and i would like to have it rooted over being on gingerbread since a root method hasnt been found yet for the new firmware
Bricked?
I tried to use the pantech provided gingerbread update this morning. It got about an eighth of the way through and failed. It instructed me to reboot while holding volume up and home and power. That put it in software updating mode. I tried the upgrade 3 more times, it failed at the same point each time. Now my phone is stuck in S/W Updating mode and I can't seem to get it out. I've tried pressing volume up and down for 10 seconds, and pressing volume down and home while powering on, nothing seems to make a difference. Any thoughts about how to at least get me back to froyo?

[Q] Repair system files on Windows Phone?

I wondered if anyone knows of a way to 'repair' the system files on a fully locked Windows Phone without wiping the phone?
I've got a problem on my phone, which I've posted in various places but had no help with yet.
I'm on a Lumia 620 these days. It's a troublesome little thing, but I suppose it is new and teething so I'm sticking with it.
Thanks loads for any help!
My dear friend...
If you need to repair the system files it's because you have an unlocked one and started to play with some files or an update failed.
but since the phone is "fully locked", full flashing is the solution...
My advice, get rid of the official ROM and install any custom that can work with WP Backup, that way you'll have a backup to restore apps and its respective data to the phone, if you do a hard reset or change the ROM you can set your phone the way it was before the change.
WP Backup only work with customs...
Any help about the use PM me.
Remember, goodbye official ROM, HELLO CUSTOM...:good:

It's brand new, unmodified, and never been updated. It may surprise you to learn that files can be corrupted because of file system errors.
And also that you can't unlock Nokia WPs or WP8s.
And that resetting is quicker and easier than re-flashing.
And that I asked about repairing the system files without having to do either. Obviously I know I can reset since I mentioned it in my post.
So well done. A really outstanding reply. So good that I didn't finish reading it. I'll skip the PM thanks.

your on a Windows phone 8 phone and that isn't unlocked/hacked in any way.
sorry to say this to you but there is no way for you to mod/fix System files on a unhacked phone
this means that you Need to do a Hard reset or Flash a new stock Rom (when possible)
So Mr. "PERFECT"...
You ask, and then you insult...
Why don't you sell that phone and get an android, since you are whining about WP, also the post is another idiotic misplaced post, since you have WP8, you have a serious sight problem: "Windows Phone 7 General" <-- This rings any bell for you?
you're asking about WP8 on WP7, you are incredibly "perfect"
I don't really care if you don't like my answers or if it helps you or not at all; next time don't even ask, since you already know the answer and you like to ask only to bash anyone who tries to give you help.

Bought A Phone Off Ebay, How Can I TRULY WIPE The fUNK OUT Of IT?

Hello All,
trying to get my learn on.. heard about Nethunter and want to throw it on some mobile devices.
Read their page and they strongly recommended and stated the OnePlus One was their recommended device. So I purchased it on eBay and am raring to go but then life interfered.. Almost a year now has gone by since I purchased it.
Fast fwd to about 2 weeks ago.. Out of Nowhere the seller hit me up stating if everything was ok since the phone hasn't been used. I emailed him back thanking him for his concern and stated I was curious as to how he knew it hadn't been used? 2 Weeks and still no reply..
That got me thinking.. maybe this phone has been "COMPROMISED"
#1 How best to verify and confirm I have a clean phone, I have done nothing but sign it on to my WiFI here at home and used it for a total of less than 30mins to test that it worked...
#2 Anyone familiar with Nethunter and have a best practice guide on how to install on a device? Their webpage lists the following, " Our freely downloadable images come with easy to follow installation and setup instructions to get you up and running in no time at all." However I have downloaded several times the img's and these so-called "easy" instructions are now where to be found.. When I google I come across blogs with 50+ steps.. so I just wanna make sure I'm following something decent before I give it WHAT FOR!
please advise!

The seller probably used the IMEI number to tell if the device had been activated on a network, it wasn't a "hack".
Boot to recovery and factory reset the device, then wipe the cache partition, that should wipe anything on the device, unless there is something hidden in the system partition, factory reset wouldn't remove that. To remove anything in the system partition, you need to flash the full stock firmware on the device. That will return it new like it came out of the box. To flash the firmware, do a Google search for:
"Return to stock (your model number)"

Right, it jus funny that the phone was off for more or less a year.. and within the same day that I turned it on, this guy contacts me outta nowhere.
I suppose it could still all be coincidence..
Its just that based on the other items he's selling I'm pretty sure he's into INFOSEC or at least PEN-testing..
but gotcha, I will do as you suggest and go from there!

P.S. if anyone knows about Nethunter would definitely appreciate help with those install directions..

Well to be honest I couldn't find "stock" Android and after a few hours of searching gave up. Even the AOSP site was no help, more confusing than anything really...
Then in despair I realized that there was a reason CyanogenMod OS kept popping up in the searches. Apparently thats what this phone shipped with...
I HATE IT THO, like where is the multitask window?
Maybe I'm too spoiled with Android ONE phones but this OS just seems like a step backwards to me..
Anyways, I now have NETHUNTER flashed and working...
That was the entire point of even buying this phone.
So now to spend endless hours learning Kali/Nethunter!
wish me luck.

Security concern - please help! Does a ROM clean my phone?

Hi xda!
So a few days ago, late at night and yes i know this probalby was one of the most idiotic things i've ever done, i tried to recover some deleted messages on my phone.
I guess it was one emotional, spur of the moment action and i came accross "dr fone" ...
Bought it on the googly play store, it had about 5M downlaods, 3 stars, so i tought maybe people couldn't recover what ever. So i installed it it than asked me to also install some software on my PC, so i did without thinking. It told me the phone will be rooted because then i can search better so i did. Please remember it was a emotional/without thinking moment, I guess my gut told me it is stupid but i just wanted the messages back. I really hate myself for this i really do and ...
It wasn't able to recover the messages a few minutes later i kind of freaked out, removed the app from my phone, uninstalled the the app from pc and did go to bed with a very bad feeling but i tried telling myself its fine. Next morning i woke up immediately rememberd, frist thing i did was completely wipe my pc (new windows installation, hope that did the trick for the pc) and tried to factory reset my phone.
I noticed kind of a weired message something like "could not find correct software version" (cant recall it right now). Anyway I did make the factory reset and ...
I couldn't stop thinking about this message, at least what i figured out is that its probably because the phone was rooted right?
So i did some further investigations and realized after rooting a phone they would have had full access to the OS and could have done some modifications and a factory reset just clears data from phone but does not reset the OS and ROM. So if they put something bad there it wouldn't be reseted and further now i may not retrieve further updates and so on...
So my conclusion after sleeping a day or two about it is to put a new ROM on my phone because this wipes it clean right?
So i have following questions:
1. Is it possible the bootloader on my phone is hacked and how likely is it? (If likely what can i do about it?)
2. Does putting a new ROM on my phone wipe it clean?
3. I saw that there are Samsung stock roms out there are they legit should i use them? I'm also thinking about Lineage OS, since my phone is ****ed anyway and i might get no further samsung updates. - What are your toughts about this?
4. Guess i can figure this out myself (the other questions are bigger concerns to me) but some pointers for installing the ROM? (guess just watch a guide or so and do it with odin?)
I really really hope you guys can help me/ provide me with some background knwoledge.
Really appreciate your help!
Also thanks in advance (im really concerned)

Flashing a full manufacturers ROM with a full wipe will clean your phone. Flashing a custom ROM or only part of manufacturers won't. You don't say what manufacturer your phone is but I assume it's a Samsung since you mention Odin & Samsung so you want the full 4 files firmware to flash with Odin from a trusted source eg sammobile. com
