Hazy HTC One M8 Verizon Camera Lens Dirt Removed - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Hi guys a day before i visuallized my htc one m8 taking worst photos with hazy lighting, bad focusing etc... was really woried about it badly, tried to reinstall the official original firmware too but no use, went to htc service care but as my phone is from U.S.A its not covered under warrenty here,
then later i found a solution to clear it of my own.
Steps to clear the Bad Camera Lens:
Needed Things:
1. Tooth Paste
2. Hydrogen Peroxide (lens cleaner solution) If not avaible use Alcohol or a Nail Polish Remover
3. Cotton Buds
4. Wipes
Steps involved:
1. First take cotton buds and apply some little tooth paste to the buds and gently wipe the lens for about 5 min.
2. Then use any solution (H2O2 or Alcohol, or Nail polish Remover) and gently wipe away the paste from the lens.
3. Use wipes the clean the lens.
Tatada now u will have ur clear lens which can take photos as a new htc one m8.

Clean camera lens

Hi Everyone
Does anyone know how to take apart the VOX so that the camera lens can be cleaned... mine has some moisture behind it the lens cover.
I have tried to find a service manual but cant find one...
Anyone know ?
Cheers

You can carefully pry off the silver back (saying 2.0 megapixels) with a small knife and then you'll have access to the plastic lens-cover, which also can be removed. It's just glued to the back.
However, I have the same problem... It's like a haze on the plastic, haven't been able to clean it :-( Have been thinking to just remove the plastic lens cover, pictures are much clearer without it!

Same problem here but I'm afraid the camera lens won't take the dirt and dust which it is exposed to even when using and transporting the phone very carefully. Thus I did not remove the cover yet, although the photos do look somewhat hazy.

If you can, return it for service. If not, either take it to an electronics repair shop that can disassemble the case and remove the dirt, or try to do so yourself by reading one of the teardown threads.

Hi,
I had the same problem exactly, and i have just joined to give you the solution that I used. My HTC photos are sharp and clear as before now.
The solution is very simple ... all what you need is a clean glasses cleaning cloth, glass cleaner (like windex) and tooth paste !! yes tooth paste!
First clean the cover with the glass cleaner ... keep it wet .. apply a tiny portion of tooth paste on it .. rub it with the cloth ... keep it wet all the time.
Repeat till you get the lens back to its original state ... or at least 90 % ... the technique used is similar to the one used in cleaning car head lights .. similar to this video for example:

I hope u find it useful.

The toothpaste trick worked great on my HOX+...
The lens had milions of tiny scratches from clothes i think, as i allways have it in my pocket...
Now it is all clear and fine again...
Just remember to use some time to do this...
- it is not done in 2 minutes...
I used about 15-20 minutes on this...
And the result is great...
Toothpaste works.

Seriously, guys? I tried this and it made everything even worse. I had several scratches on my lens before, now it's all covered in it and photo quality is horrible. Wow, thanks...

By definition, the only way to truly remove a scratch is to sand/polish the area so its level again, essentially removing material to the level of the depth of the scratch (which is what people are attempting to do with toothpaste). Doing so is introducing more scratches, and therefore has a potential to do much more harm than good.

The toothpaste worked great for me, thank you! I've seen the headlight videos (and plan on doing it someday) but never thought about it for my camera lens. It took me about 2 minutes, but I'm sure it varies greatly depending on depth and number of scratches.
As for worries about potential damage, I think it would definitely depend on the condition of the lens and your situation as well. I didn't have deep scratches, or even what I would really call scratches.. more of a "haze" that looked somewhat like old glass, old mirror, or hairspray buildup on a mirror. It almost looked like something I could scrape off, but attempting to certainly would have cause more damage and I'm sure they really were very tiny scratches. I was also prepared to replace the whole lens/cover/etc if it did not work, because although minor, I just couldn't deal with it- every picture was crummy, indoors or out!!
So if you have deep scratches, it may not work, and if you would rather live with (or have no choice but to live with) the current condition of photos than risk having to replace the whole thing it may not be worth it. I am totally pleased though, I am able to take pictures again!
I attached some before and after pics, didn't really plan to so the only apples-to-apples one I have is the indoor one with directions, and I'm not the greatest photographer but I think the difference is pretty obvious. ALL of my pictures were blurry, no defined edges, especially outdoors where every picture came out like I was looking into the sun.
Obviously, I'm pretty dang happy and can't shut up about it lol, so thanks again!! Perfect, easy, and fast solution! And thanks to the OP for posting the thread in the first place!

LIFESAVER!
I got the solution
Finally I got the solution for the problem.
First of all I tried to polish a glass with toothpaste, but scratched it even worse.
It seems Colgate is not fine enough for glass polishing
So I found a replacement part on eBay and purchased it for $4.99
Unfortunately I didn't found replacement instructions, so I tried to disassembly a rear panel. Fortunately I failed, and tried to pick up a rear cap (I attached pictures bellow) and succeeded !!! It was simply glued.
Now I have perfect new glass (I glued a new cap with few drops of Loctite) and I more than happy :victory:

I had exactly same problem as pictured in your photos. Applying a little toothpaste (I use Crest lol) on the lens cover and rubbing with a wet cloth (WETTEX) for a few seconds immediately made the lens shine again, and the result on the camera was indeed spectacular!
Many thanks to the original poster for this really inventive tip!
This totally works. great tip - thanks very much.
Top banana fix! Thank you!

Can't way to try this! Will post later with results!
I tried it, the funniest thing is it works great... Good job on that!
How long did it take you guys to polish it so improvement was visible? 1 minute? 10 minutes?
Also, how much pressure did you apply? And what toothpaste?
Thank you for your answers

Reminded me of rubbing toothpaste on a new dive mask Maybe...
My lens didn't have any deep or severe scratches, but a tiny "layer" of scratches causing the picture to be blurry.
I felt like an idiot rubbing my lens with toothpaste for nearly 20 minutes.
But it worked like a charm! Thank you very much! :good:
Brilliant

Have a HTC One x+. Recently all my pictures I took had this haze on them, making the picture quality worse than a VGA camera. Saw the post, was skeptical after reading a few of the comments, but went ahead. Results were great! In just one round, there was noticeable change in image quality. The haziness was reduced to a minimum. I used 'pepsodent' toothpaste. Not really abrasive but played its role well.
Thanks a ton for the tip!

Need front camera of S4 GT-I9500..

I have Galaxy S4 I9500, recently my device drops in water and not working correctly. That's why I open it and dry by heat air gun but after assembling each part my front camera of device is not working, when I open camera app and switch front camera it pop up "camera failed"...
I tried many times to correct front camera by opening the device....but didn't work.
So, I want to replace the front camera to new one (or even second hand if anyone have)
Please suggest me from where I could purchase this front camera (with original quality and best price....)
{Forgive me for my bad english}
I don't think you can buy the front camera only.
Your best chance is to buy a GT-I9500 with a broken display and take the camera from that one.

Thanks for my help......Now I will replace my camera.....
When you drop a electronic device on water the most recommended is putting/bathing each part of it in isopropyl alcohol (100% alcohol and let it rest there for some days to remove the water and prevent oxidation.
Well now it's late I guess.

Camera Heat Damage?? Pictures all "foggy"

So the glass covering the camera lens recently broke on my girlfriend's Galaxy S7. The camera still worked and focused correctly, but I tried to replace the glass.
I used a heat gun to remove all of the broken glass and adhesive. Ever since I did that, everything looks "foggy" in the camera app. It's like there's moisture covering the lens. We tried cleaning the lens with a Q-tip, but it still looks the same.
Anyone know why this would happen? Did I damage the camera unit with the heat? Any advice on what to do? Thanks in advance!
Maybe some adhesive is left between camera module and lens? Are lens exactly the same as the ones before? Just throwing some ideas around because I am honestly not an expert on this, might be damaged module but I don't know enough to say anything.
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, that is possible. Although if that's the case, I don't know why it won't come off. I haven't actually put the new glass cover over the camera unit lens yet, and I tried cleaning the module lens with a Q-tip. Same result. So, I'm wondering if I damaged the unit, or maybe melted the lens slightly. I guess it is what it is. Thanks again!
Wait but is it foggy when you put lens over it? I mean is the whole package there or not? Because that's what lens are for, to focus stuff on the camera sensor. It's not clear from your post if you actually did that or not. Camera without lens with always be "foggy".
Edit: Reading it for 3rd time, is the exterior glass the only thing broken or is there more? Flat glass will not focus image so that is no the issue then. For a second I thought that you have camera module without any glass. Post some pictures I guess, from the camera and of the camera.
Sorry for the confusion. Yes, the exterior glass was the only thing broken. When it first broke, I ripped the shards off, and bought a replacement glass cover online. The camera was still working until I used a heat gun to remove the residual glass and adhesive.
After I did that, I tested the camera again, and that's when it looked foggy. Anyway, I'll post some pictures when I get the chance.
Why would u even use heat gun for that? I changed about 20 camera lenses and all without heat gun, just break the glass and ripp it off, clean the leftover residue , put new glass and bam works... maybe u have condensation?
Can you share a photo taken with the camera? it'll help to figure out what's happening.
Maybe some clues :
- If the lens is made with other material than glass they are heat and chemicals sensitive
- Some humidity got under the lens
- Deep scratch on the lens
- The lens barrel moved for some reason (pushed or not in his rail anymore) or is not calibrated anymore
(btw never use Q-tips to clean lenses they can scratch the lens and coating - Use optical cleaning paper)

I was following a tutorial video I found online. The said that any residual adhesive from the old glass might cause an imperfect seal, and any old glass pieces might cause the new glass to crack. So, they removed it with a heat gun. How do you go about cleaning the leftover residue? Just curious. Thanks.

Thanks for the input. Here's some photos. This is what an image looks like when taken with the camera currently:
Here's a picture taken with my S7, which doesn't have a damaged camera. This is what the image should look like:
Here's a closeup shot of the damaged camera. I haven't put the replacement glass on yet. I am waiting until this issue is resolved.
Looking at that close up shot of the lens, it does look like there's something on it. I can't tell if those are scratches or residue. Any idea what might be a good way to go about cleaning it? It seems like it would be hard to clean something that small with optical cleaning paper, especially since the unit moves. Thanks again!
Thanks for the pics.
Somehow hard to figure out if it's some Q-tips dust of some melted plastic coating gel.
Yes it's hard to clean such a little surface but try to wrap your Qtips or a small non abrasive tool with the optical paper, add some 100% ethanol or 98% rubbing alcohol on it.
Do you have a air blower pump for camera?, if yes try with that first and if it still stuck on the lens then something melted, Gel coating? not sure. If it's inside well it's probably some gel...unfortunately there is nothing much you can do but changing the camera module.
Hope it's only dust, good luck.

Thanks for the advice! I don't have an air blower pump. Can I use a can of air? Anyway, I'll try these tips when I get back in town tomorrow. Thank you again!
Sure a can of air can do the trick, be careful though, some spray liquid and let some residue, test it on a piece of paper first. Tell us how it goes.
Have you washed the phone with water before the glass broke?

If the gunk doesn't clear with alcohol (e.g. lens cleaner) then it may be that the lens itself is damaged. If the heat gun made the lens too hot it may have damaged the actual lens itself.
That rear glass looks like the coating is flaking. You might need to replace the module. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Sam...ont-Rear-Lens-Flex-Cable-Module-/192066941308
Thanks for all the help, everyone! So, I tried cleaning the lens with a can of air, and also with lens cleaner on a Q-tip covered with optical cleaning paper. Same results.
Looks like whatever the problem is, it's gonna require replacing the camera unit Darn, wish I hadn't touched it. Was working fine. Anyway, thanks again!
Thanks for the follow up and sorry to hear it didn't fixed the problem. Maybe you could ask samsung to get you a price quote for the replacement or if you're really adventurous you could buy the camera module as a DIY project, be extra careful though you'll most likely avoid your warranty and the IP67/68 (someone posted a link in the thread for the camera unit), or ask a quote in a 3rd party shop?

I'm having the exact same problem and same question! I just finished replacing my LCD. I took a picture to test it out, before putting the back cover back on, and it worked perfect. Then, I used to the heat gun to replace my camera lens, after putting the new back cover on, and now nothing buy blurry, and even looks like a couple of round water spots. I took the lens back off and tried cleaning it, I've shaken in, reset the camera settings, at this point...I'm afraid I damaged the camera with the heat gun and have to open it back up and have replace the whole camera.

Aw man, yeah looks like the same thing happened to you. Yeah, I think that the heat damages the lens on the camera unit. I couldn't find a way to get rid of the blurriness.
I ended up just cashing in on the phone insurance for mine. If you have it, I'd suggest doing the same, unless you're feeling adventurous and wanna try and replace the camera unit. Sorry I can't be more help. Good luck!
