Screen Density Changer

Hello, all,
I tried looking for this thread, but couldn't find one that's active and working.
Does anyone know any good app/method for screen density changer for S3? (instead of installing a rom that has the option)
I tried one from the market, but didn't do anything.
I tried changing build.prop, but had to restore because it wouldn't boot.
Any idea?
Thanks in advance.

What did you change in the build.prop? I manually change it all the time and never have any issues. What did you change it to?
Also rom toolbox is amazing for tweaking roms and it allows you to mod build.prop.

Thanks for the reply.
I think I changed where it says ro something density and it was around 300? Which I changed to 240 and it didn't work.
I will try the toolbox.
Thanks!

Just used the toolbox, and it worked perfectly.
Thank you so much.
Not to hijack your thread, but what exactly is changing the screen density? Does it help with something?
Thanks

It's just changes the size of everything really. But if you put it low enough you can enable tablet mode on some apps. I personally like tablet mode

Hi. I've got the question too. Can I edit build.prop right on my device? Will it boot after that? I want to make text areas (in menus, for example) smaller so I could see more text on the screen. Or I just should make an update.zip and flash it via CWM recovery?

Download build.prop editor if you want to do more things with your device...or download density changer if you only want to change density...
Lots of apps are available on play store to do this...
Lower value =high resolution effect
Higher value =low resolution effect
One advice...
Keep in mind...
Some manufacturers modified their own ui over stock...which might causes some issues...
So... better to install another launcher... before applying... (third party launchers are able to catch any resolution...)

Strange file type from download link
When trying to download version 2, I noticed that the file type doesn't say *.zip
It says something along the lines of
.ZIP-TOKEN_HASH=AAFMPGIPWRO16OFF_VB0CJR0AY7LKNESUHL08TBL5WVD_G&DL=1 File (.zip-token_hash=AAFMPgIpWro16OFF_VB0CJR0aY7LkNeSUHL08TbL5WVd_g&dl=1)

Just to check, I clicked on the download link for version 1 and it provided me with a *.zip file. Just wondering if it's just me or if other people got that too. I debated if I should flash the weird file type but decided not to since I don't like needless troubleshooting.
Anyone else getting incompatibility issues from the market? Like google Maps is saying not compatible. A few others as well. I haven't cleared anything yet. Just curious if others are having the same.

Thanks for pointing that app out. I'll look into it some more when I get the time. Turns out that beast left the dpi at 182 and didn't add the multi dpi play store. Some one likes SLIM way to much. Slim comes with it's own gapps that are modded for lower DPI. So after setting the DPI back to 240 and wiping data from Play and Google services frameworks then rebooting all is well.

It's I didn't do it by app I did it system wide. I used Android tuner to change lcd density back to 240(220 or 230 sometimes work as well). Wiped data from Play and frameworks then rebooted. I was able to DL all the apps I couldn't. Then I just reset the LCD density to 210(preference)

It does? lol When the hell did they add that? I always change it manually on AOKP.
I love dpi at 200 or 210. Also, i already had storage list in my device.
I also am wondering what you did to fix video playback.

Almost perfect way to Set dpi on Note 3.(Root)

So I was looking into a way to change the dpi of my n9000. I loved PacMan rom for mt Xperia Z. I used to use a tablet UI with 200 dpi and I liked it. When I tried build.prop editors. Nothint changed.
So I did the following. Its very simple. But it did the job.
Download Xposed Installer
Install the framework.
Go to modules.
Download App Settings.
Activate it from Xposed.
Then open App Settings. Grant Root permissions.
Search for Android Ui
Change the dpi to what ever suits you. Am using 340. Works like a charm for me.
I took the extra efforts of chaning the dpi for settings. Browser. Whatsapp. BBM. And a few more apps according to my use. It worked.
WARNING : Do Not change the Android System dpi. It makes the keyboard horribly large.
After you change the dpi to something smaller than stock. There will be a little space between the status bar and the app.
Touchwiz does not look well in the less dpi. I recommend some other launcher which supports custom rows and columns. I use Nova Prime.

What did you use to edit the build prop, I've been told using the that method ever since a Knox safe root was available.

How much dpi are you using ?
Im very interested in rooting and then changing dpi but when i tried changing build prop with my old S3 it went into boot loop and i had to do an emergency recovery.
Anyways could someone upload som screenshots of lesser dpi settings on note 3, would be nice to see if its worth the hazzle.

I have a problem with setting the dpi of the samsung phone app with this app, everything else works fine. I set the dpi first by editing the build prop but the dialer did not like it so i tried to set it back to original dpi but it wont respond to any changes, only option is to revert the build prop.
Use solid explorer or root explorers and change the LCD density in build prop. I am using 350 at the moment and it's been good... I then use the xposed module app settings to change the Samsung apps like phone and calculator back to 480 so they don't look ridiculous all bunched up in the corner of the screen.. worked a treat on every rom I use.. do it on kitkat roms on my nexus 4 and s4 with no dramas as well until a PA type rom comes out

tablet mode has been removed from base android since 4.2 or 4.3 (i cant recall which one right now).
when you see it in a rom it is the re-addition in xml layout files to enable the 'tablet' mode again
^^^ read this in another thread
i wouldn't mind giving tablet mode a go again myself on such a large device when we see some AOSP love that will enable it again:good:

If you have root then download texdroider_DPI from the playstore and set your preffered DPI in there....reboot...done! However if your running custom rom and the dev pushes a update out then it'll set to default dpi
