Hello, I replaced my LCD Nexus 5 screen, but when I closed the phone and turn it on, Im having this screen problem(attached)
the screen "dancing" and something wrong.
Please help, I dont know whats the problem is, I tried "rebuild" it again like 5 times, and always the same problem.
Thanks for help.
Replace the flex cable. They're pretty cheap. If that doesn't work then it's a damaged screen, or in extremely rare cases, it could be a damaged motherboard.

Hi, I have a droid 2 global, it belongs to my friend. She dropped it and this screwed up her touch functions. The screen was turning on but she was not able to get any feedback when she touched anything on the screen. I told her i'd try and fix it for her, first thing i did was ordered a new digitizer thinking this was the problem, unfortunately it was not. Even with the new digitizer i couldnt slide to unlock or feel any haptic feedback. I reopened the phone and looked for another possibility to the problem, i found a little tear in the flex cable connected to the digitizer, lcd and keyboard, somehow in the process of removing everything i think i may have ripped it. I ordered a new one of those, put it all back to together and this time the screen didnt turn on, however when i touched, it responded by vibrating. So that solved the previous problem. But now i have a new problem, the screen just stays pitch black. I was reading around and some forums said i may have short circuited the lcd through ESD. so i ordered another lcd, i put a new one in thinking this would fix everything, but still the screen stays black. Im resending the lcd back and gonna get a replacement, hopefully the one i got was just faulty. Does anyone know if it could be something else thats causing the black screen?
Hello!
I have a Nexus 5 with no warranty (according to LG, I need a receipt which I don't have) and the display is acting up. I noticed if I slightly bend the phone, the display flickers, sometimes fixes the problem, or it turns off. Over the last 6 months, the touch screen has been erratic and sometimes I have to hard reboot the phone to get it working again. Also on startup, sometimes I get the rainbow coloured "static noise" on the screen and then I push on the screen a bit and it is working again. Does anyone have any ideas what might be the cause and how to fix it? I feel like it's a ribbon cable problem but I have no clue. I went into Bootloader and factory reset it multiple times, pushed the factory image, pushed TWRP and Cataclysm.
Thanks for any and all help!

Replace the flex cable. It's fairly cheap.
If that doesn't solve your problem, then it's a screen or motherboard issue (i'd recommend paying LG for a repair rather than guessing between the two and possibly wasting money).

Thanks for the info. I have been looking for a while but I'm not sure which flex cable to replace? From the iFixIt teardown, it doesn't look like getting to the display cable is easy/possible. Do you have any links for what I should purchase? I'm comfortable with taking it apart and doing the work, just want to make sure I buy the right piece .
Thanks!

I've the same problem. atom bomb, did that work for you ? how did you end up fixing your phone ?
Hi,
I have Nexus 5 and was running good with Marshmellow and suddenly one day the screen started scrolling up. Restart or factory reset did not help. While starting the boot logo was also corrupted and I use to get is display with random pixels lit with different colors, mostly white and red. So have tried different bootloaders and even downgrading to 4.4.4 but the issue is still there.
Called up Google and LG as well. Since device is not under warranty now, it is going to cost for repair. So would like to know if there is any solution to this problem before I try the repair or give on this device.
Appreciate any suggestions. Thank you,
Sandeep.
Was the phone ever dropped? It's possible that there is a loose connection inside the phone. I suggest removing the back and inspecting the phone's internal components and connections.
If everything appears fine, it could be A problem with the lcd of motherboard, neither of which is cheap to repair. I suggest trying to find a used nexus 5, either with a smashed screen and working internal components or one with a working screen and damaged internals to troubleshoot your own phone.

I do not recollect dropping it. I would wait to see if any better option comes up. And will keep an eye for an broken Nexus to see if I can get the motherboard swapped. Thanks for ideas though.
Hello,
First of all i dont know if this is the right forum for my question. If not so please notice me.
After my Z5 dropped on the floor i got an broken Display. I bought a new Display and changed it, but i think i broke the LCD-Flexcable after i pulled carefully on it to get it inside the case. The effect is after phone turn on i get only the backlight but the screen remains black. So for a test i switched my old broken display in it but the effect is the same, only backlight and black screen. After a few seconds the phone led blinks 3 times red and the phone restarts. What the heck is now? Anybody get the same case? I handled the mainboard with care, dont remember to damaged the connector in anyway. Does the Flexcable needs to be protected with a tape so it couldnt be grounded on someway?
Sorry for my bad english. Thanks for any help!
After a second and a third display swap the error is still the same. It seems somehow i damaged the motherboard. I swapped the phone against a new one.
Please help, same problem ...
Hello
I have a strange problem with my Nexus 5. Today when I booted it up it started fine and everything was working. After 2 hours I wanted to check my phone, but it had turned off. I pressed the power button and strange vertical lines appeared coming from the top of the screen. They disappeared after 3 seconds, but now my phone has no picture only the backlight is working. When I reboot the phone I see the stripes again, but still screen is unresponsive after booting. I know the phone works, because I hear the notifications coming in. I though, that maybe the lcd cable has gotten loose, so I opened up the phone, but the cables were still all connected. I haven't dropped my phone or anything. Can anyone please suggest me what to do? Does it have something to do with the cables? Or is the screen broken ? Any help will be appreciated.
This has happened to mines previously. Unfortunately you'll need to replace what is called the flex cable.
A lot of topics about this issue but no one answers is not complete.
In my case usb flex replacement haven't got any result. Absolutely!
Only by replacing the mainboard (i.e. motherboard) Nexus 5 became alive.
So, feature Nexus 5 rainbow vertical lines victims, keep this in mind.
ps: yes, I'm a necroposter, sorry
Same thing happens to me some time ago, now i've put some paper on the mainboard connector and the problem appear only some times.
I think i have to buy a new phone.
