[Q] are CRT animations only doable on rooted devices? - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering if CRT animations are only for rooted romed devices? I have search far and wide but no answer. Thank you in advance.

I believe this is true. You either have to have custom recovery so you can flash or you need to have SU ability so you can overwrite system files.

Thank you bob.

The following link has instructions on how to do this, but you have to know quite a bit about modding/programing and so on. Plus stock ROM is odexed and that makes some of these mods difficult or impossible. I am waiting on confirmation, but I think you can push a deodexed stock ROM with Odin, then these mods may be a lot easier. I have not tripped my knox yet so I am trying to keep it that way.
good luck.
Bob
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2799050

Yeah, I read through some of them and left a message about maybe having an ODIN way to push the mods to the device even on stock. I remember back in the day helping a friend do a push for sprint phones to shut off the shutter. So, I hope there is some way to do it without root.

[Q] questions about voodoo and stock nexus s

ok Ive been searching for a while and couldn't really find anything that answered my question exactly and I don't want to be the noob asking questions and making new threads but anyway here goes
I was wondering if there is a way to get the voodoo sound kernel on a stock non rooted nexus s and if so, where can i download it and how would I install it?
I'm basically looking for something to amplify the sound of my headphones and what I have found so far is that voodoo is what I need. Thanks in advance.

yea, youre right.
im a little slow today, tired and a headache
Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I'm finding it to be a little more harder to just do it without rooting so that will probably be my next step. Figure I can squeeze some more battery life out of it too while I'm at it. Thanks again for the help

OK so I've rooted the phone and installed rom manager, now my question is there a kernel i can get without using a custom rom...and secondly can it be done through rom manager?
sorry for all the noob questions, this is my first time rooting and doing all the internal stuff myself and I dont wanna F anything up, had friends that could do it before but not available anymore. (paid too much to have a paper weight )

I believe that to be correct.
Put the zip on your sdcard, use ROM Mgr to boot into Clockwork Recovery, use Clockwork's install update from sdcard option to flash the kernel.
Should work. I haven't done it personally, yet, but I intend to, I want the voodoo sound tweaks.

When you go to flash through rom manager it will popup a dialog box asking if you want to back up your current rom and or wipe data and cache. Just do the backup.

I have a rooted SNS with the stock odexed ROM. I do have the Netarchy 1.2.3 Kernel with the Voodoo sound enhancments and it works great. I'm using the Voodoo control app with it. After initially unlocking your bootloader and installing root and recovery, make sure you run a nandroid backup on your stock setup if you plan to make any more "tweaks" to your system (just in case). I only run stock because the theming i do does not involve editing system apks.

[TOOL] Auto Deodex/Debloat AT&T One X

This tool will automatically deodex your AT&T One X if its rooted and has Busybox installed (one click root tool already does all of this for you). This should make it easier for folks to install modifications since we don't have a CWM .zip of deodexed files quite yet.
http://briefmobile.com/auto-deodex-tool-for-htc-one-x-att
Also, developers are encouraged to take a look at the batch commands. You guys can make custom ROM installers and such with very little effort. This will work until we have CWM.
Edit: Linux version thanks to JeepFreak! http://www.filefactory.com/file/58m4z62jgn51/n/linux-light-deodex_tar_gz
JeepFreak - This currently only works for the 1.72.X releases. It has not been successful on the leaked updates.
Downloading right now.
Will report back with results.
Edit: links are broken.
I click to download it, and says page not found
Oops, didn't realize previous poster had edited to say it.
Page Not Found
That page does not exist.
Will test this out as soon as links are back up. will report back for any issues.
Thanks kenn!!!
Will this work on the Rogers version too?
can i just install busybox from the market?

It should work on a Rogers device, although you guys already have CWM (which is much easier/less messy). You can certainly install busybox through the market if you're rooted.

Deodex is a success.
Got the Android is upgrading screen.
Total noob here and had to look up what Deodex does. If this article is correct, then this is mostly just useful for theming? Otherwise what would be the benefit of this?

yep, Im converting my rom to this. So be patient for another hour
EDIT: Currently testing the batch...
Worked perfectly!! Full deodex on at&t hox
how is deodexing a rom going to give you anything else than whats already on your rogers device?
So flash our CWM then this tool?
caution-
just a kind word of caution to fellow users:
the first time i ran this i got a soft brick, probably because i was already partially debloated.
however,
i flashed the stock RUU, rerooted, retried this program and it seems to have worked just fine. thanks for the tool!

[Q] ROM closest to stock

Long story short, my son wants me to root his phone primarily to get rid of the bloatware installed. He is not looking to do anything fancy to it as he likes the way it is now....just wants it debloated. Any ideas on a ROM that's closest to stock?
Thanks all

Most of the touchwiz ROMs come debloated not just Cleanrom. Cleanrom also isn't the only ROM that is closest to stock there are several of them. There is MDOB, Hyperdrive and Hellsrom.

How about you just root the phone and disable/hide the bloatware? it will be easiest way and does not include any compromise.
CleanROM is active and popular if you want close to stock.

[Q] Stock Rooted Rom?

Do we have a stock rooted deodexed debloated ROM floating around somewhere? Every other phone I've had thats been rooted and/or S-Off, there was almost immediately a Stock debloated rooted Rom available. I cannot find one. Just thought I would ask.
I guess while I'm posting this I'll also ask if anyone coming from the Verizon M7 knows if any of our DEVS are going to be coming our way?
*cough* @santod040 *cough*
