[Q] Managing CWM Backups - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys. I´m on the need of some help. I recently unlocked my bootloader / flashed recovery and rooted my Moto G xt1032 8GB. I was looking forward to flash a shiny brand new rom and as a decent person I did a nandroid backup first. The result: I have only 800MB free on my MotoG.
I managed to copy the backup to my PC using ADB:
Code:
adb pull /mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup C:/
but the backup is still on my phone weighting 2.5 GB. I tried ES explorer and an app similar to Root Explorer and I can´t find the goddamn backup folder to delete it. The mnt/shell folder is shown empty.
Please, could someone give me a hand to get rid of my backup?
I think it´s not going away when I do a full wipe-factory reset, right?
Thanks a lot!

/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup or /data/media/0/clockworkmod/backup

You can also delete it through the recovery

Well it was a pain for me to find the nandroid backup with an old version of cwm...It is located in
Device/mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod

[Q] how to force restoring a backup

hi all
things went messed up these day with my xoom, now I got a US 3.2 on my MZ604 which I just flashed.
& I have another backup of the same 3.2 (but) with all my apps & things I need, but the main problem is that backup was taken with another version of CWM which ROM manager installed it for me & I was kinda happy with it, (I should remind the backup I took with that version of CWM was placed in internal memory & not in SDCARD). now I have the ex-CWM which is told in xoom developers thread,
the problem is when I copy the backup folder to its folder, my xooms stops responding when I choose to restore it from CWM, now is there anyway to flash the other CWM (I don't know where to get it from, causeI don't have market now)? or flash it with command prompt in windows?
I really appreciate in advance if someone help me to restore that backup, cause I went through very long way to customize my xoom as I wanted & needed
so what i would do is download the latest CWM and flash it via fastboot, then make a backup just in case. Then i would adb pull the backup folder from the internal memory of your xoom. Then flash those images via fastboot.

You could also move the files to your pc and fastboot flash them.

exactly u got the 2 things I don't know, first how to find the latest cwm, I don't know the exact version or thing & what source, & second "adb pull the backup".
everything I know & did up till now in what I learnt from the threads in xda, like in CMD I know adb reboot & flash things, & also fastboot!... bla bla bla
I don't know all the things I need to know to do it on my own

I guess u understood what I meant & need, I have them in my computer, but don't know the lines I need to write in cmd to work & flash, these are the files I got in the backup folder:
could u plz correct me if I need to write something different for each image
boot.img = fastboot flash boot boot.img
cache.img = **what about this**
data.img = fastboot flash userdata data.img
nandroid.md5 = (really don't know if I need to flash or do something with it, !?md5!?)
recovery.img = fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
system.img = fastboot flash system system.img
For the md5 file you dont need to flash this and i dont thinnk you need to flash the cache. Img. If you do then run fastboot flash cache. Img cache.

Provided they are the exact same model phone, yes you can just transfer the nandroid backup file from your old phone to your new phone once you get it. For the time being you can just transfer the nandroid backup to your computer and store it there until your new phone comes then just transfer it to your new phone, boot into CWM restore the backup and you should be all set .
If it's a previous ROM you backed up on your gs3, then yes you can. Make sure you root, unlock bootloader, flash recovery once replacement comes of course
Samsung Galaxy S3
I just did this over the weekend. I was able to restore a nandroid to my warranty replacement with no problem at all. I expected there to be some issues with some apps giving me a hard time, but everything worked great. The only things I lost were on the internal sdcard (my phone was hard bricked, so I couldn't back that up).
Like was already said, I had to root the new phone, unlock the bootloader, and install a custom recovery before I could restore the nandroid.
If using TWRP after root make a backup to establish a new backup folder with corresponding serial number to match new phone. Open old backup folder and serial # folder to get to actual backup files. Transfer these files to to new serial# folder.

This worked great, here's what I did.
1. Made a quick backup to generate the proper folder structure and the correct directory name needed for my new phone.
2. Copied the folder that contained the backup I intended to use from my old Hercules S2 to my replacement Hercules S2's TWRP backup directory.
3.Copied the name of the folder of the backup I made in step 1 to the clipboard.
4. deleted the folder I created in step 1.
5. renamed the folder I imported by pasting the name from the clipboard.
6. restored the backup.
Done.
Sweet.
Thanks.
nandroid backups are awesome
Hello,
Can you please help me here. i have a system which got screwed while playing and I am on a screen with no os installed. I just got a nandroid backp file from one of the friendly users on the forums. However on going into TWRP recovery, it does not recognize the backup. it is the same model and service provider as mine.

Because the folder containing the backup is named with the serial number of the old phone. The fasters way to set things up is to make a nandroid backup of the new phone, then move the old backup to the new folder and it will be recognized. Just as a user said previously in this thread.
P.S. Sorry for being so late.

Hey guys,
Here are silly but important questions:
1. Can I use the nandroid backup from PhilZ touch recovery and restore it with TWRP?
2. To which folder do I have to put the nandroid backup file?

I doubt that it will work. I have seen several reports that restoring a CWM recovery using TWRP doesn't work, and since Philz is based on CWM I am making the presumption that it will likewise fail. ( I seem to recall that nandroids from older TWRP versions won't reload from newer versions; along the lines of a 2.4.x.x TWRP nandroid using 2.8.x.x TWRP. )

It's clear now. You cannot recover a PhilZ touch recovery from TWRP. :/

I have made an nandroid backup from LG G4 H815 with Android 5.1
Now i've got a new LG G4 H815 with Android 20g
Questions:
1. If i restore backup with Lollipop, to phone with Marshmallow - will 20G be overwritten and i will end with Lollipop on new G4?
2. what will happen with IMEI; will it be changed?
Or should i use only some of partions from the old G4?
Should the TWRP installed on new G4 be the same version as on old G4 (2.8.07)? Or i can install the latest 3.02 on the new one
I have following partitions:
boot, system, system image, Data, Cache, Recovery, EFS

This is great news!!!
I've been having constant issues with my SIM card connection lately, even though I've replaced the tray. So it must be a MotherBoard issue.
Already got my Nandroid backup sorted which I update every now and again, so now I just have to search for how to root it again, since it was years ago when I last did.

[Q] Go backup restored problem

I hope it is the right forum to ask.
I've just flashed my GS2 to JB 4.1.2 and Rooted.
Before that I made a mistake and backup my files with Go backup pro.
Now I can't restored because it is not find my backup files on the path..
I have searched in your forum vertically and horizontally and I found some thread about this problem but without a solution.
Could someone please advice me how to restore my files back?
Thank you very much.

I also backup my files using Go Backup pro. The backups by default are in external sdcard ( sdcard1). After flashing a rom you reinstall Gobackup Pro from Play Store. Launch the app and you will see the two tabs onscreen : backup tab and restore tab. Just click the restore tab and you see a prompt showing all backup files. Choose the latest files and click restore.

I tried it and still I don't have any backups on screen.. :crying:
See which storage has been set as default. ( under settings - storage)
If you backed up to SD and now internal memory is made as default, it won't show the files. (as it searches only internal memory)

GoBackup doesnt recognize old backup files problem solved!
OK...got something for all of u punks like me out there. After installing new ROM i couldn't restore my backuped upfiles with GoBackup coz app couldn't recognize or find old backup files. I really had some important stuff there and wasn't intending to just give up. I have read many forums but everyone said to just give it up and forget it. Said hell no! So after few days of trying (reinstalling rom, gobackup, deleting caches and god knows what else i have tried) i came a cross of this lame idea . I actually opened GoBackup files on my GoogleDrive(so.... i had backup but app couldn't find it or recognize it to be able to restore it) and checked what i had installed. Made a list and installed all apps i had when i was making backup. Then i installed apps and made backup via gobackup. And here it goes... i copyed old backup files in latest backup directory , renamed old backup files using names from new files. So u get your old backup using file names of latest backup. Now app will recognize your old backup coz u renamed them. App thinks your old backup is actually latest backup. U just go into app and restore your things.
So:
1.Check out your GoBackup directory where u have your backup files (which after rooting app doesn't find or recognize) and make a list of apps u wanna restore
2.Install apps from your list
3.Make new backup of all apps u wanna restore later(old ones u had installed)
4.Now open backed up files that u wanna restore and open latest backup directory and rename old files using names from new backup files.
5.After renaming old backup files, move them into latest backup directory replacing latest backup files with renamed ones.
6.Go to GoBackup app and make restore of latest backup which is actually old one .
Found an easy solution
1. Connect your phone via cable.
2. Open SD card, locate GOBackup folder and press copy.
3. Go to local memory and press paste.
Now open GOBackup on your device, and its a miracle, all your backup there

Alcatel Fierce 2 Stock Rom Backup

This is a backup of my Alcatel One Touch Fierce 2 after rooting and getting switched to SuperSU.
Supersu is a system app in this backup so if you manage to find a way to build a flashable update zip this is a rooted rom.
For now I have found these files to be a good resource for anyone trying to build a rom from source or to try to figure out how to get a flashable update zip,
You may also be able to copy files you need if you deleted something that you need to put back. I would be careful how you copy files to your phone as this is how i got my screwed up.
I copied files to my /system when my phone was running and it crashed me. Now i can boot into recovery but the phone wont boot up completely and it will not restore itself to factory defaults. I built a update zip out of these files but it will not flash from the recovery.
On update from SD card it does not find the update.zip, I have used adb sideload to the phone to send the update.zip and it sends ok but errors out and will not recover.
I get E: Footer is wrong
and E: Invalid signature.
Rejection from the recovery. It wants a Factory update.zip and no one has that yet. We could get one if somebody has a phone that is not updated yet and they download the update but capture the download before it runs the update. I think there are some post on how to capture a OTA update and copy it.
Anyway for what its worth the files are here and complete.
This backup was originally made by using Online Nandroid Backup.
I also have a copy of most of my system that i made with ADB.
I noticed that the nandroid backup did not get some files, I built a complete backup by copying the missing files from my ADB backup into the Nandroid backup.
Then i rezipped the files.
There a 2 different backups of the boot.img and recovery.img. one i made using flashify and the other by dumping the images in ADB.
These were the commands i used to dump the images.
dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/mmcblk0p29 of=/storage/sdcard0/recovery.img
dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/mmcblk0p7 of=/storage/sdcard0/boot.img
If someone with a rooted phone can dump the whole phone image that would be helpful.
I saw a thread before how to do it with one command but im not sure where its at now.
After you unzip any of these files be careful if you want to copy them anywhere. There are a lot of link files that will not get copied. So zip it fist to keep the links.
Right now all i need to do is figure out a way to flash the /system folder of this backup back to my phone to replace the current /system on the phone and i will be back in working condition.
If anyone has any ideas how to do this id appreciate some help.
Like i said I have created the Updater Script and Binary META-INF to make a update script but it wont flash.
The only backdoor i can find so far is the following.
If you power off phone completely
and then hold in the volume down key only
and then plug the phone in the computer
You will get a new device. Hold the vol down key until you get it.
If you have loaded the drivers from Alcatel for the one touch Fierce.
http://alcatelonetouch.com/global-en/support/faq/usbdriver.html
our drivers are the qualcom drivers.
You will get HS-USB Qloader 9008
it is in QDL mode or Download Mode.
From what i have read you can flash each partition or the whole emmc this way.
Im just not sure how. I dont know what Flash tool to use to interface with it.
I have all the mountpoint data for the partitions and the backups here.
Any ideas on how i can flash the /system partition only and restore my /system from this backup.
There is also a Titanium Backup of all the apps including SYSTEM apps

Yes it is inaccessible from local storage to access it you need root. If you have any file manager eg Ex file explorer locate to root then data/media/0/twrp now it will be accessible and you will be able to see all your stuffs i.e backups, etc. Hope it helped you out.

You can use a USB stick with OTG and make a backup directly from TWRP (last variant), so you can easy move your backup where you want.
