Has anybody noticed the smell of the charger of the one plus one! Just after it finishes charging and you remove the cable and smell in the usb port! It smells funny like it is burned a light smell!
Can anybody test this and see if their charger has this smell!
Charger works ok though so i was wondering if it is the smell of capacutors getting warm or the smell of capacitors swelling!
Thnx please try and feedback )

Unless you're sure it is completely cooked I'd advise against tasting it just yet. If it smells cooked though, maybe give it a go and report back.

It works ok and the voltage and current it outputs is ok! But im worried about the smell!
I've noticed it gets *very* hot! I assume yours does to, which is why you can smell burning?
I haven't smelt that myself though.

I leave my charger plugged in to the wall, even when not in use, out of laziness. While my phone is connected, it's silent. But as soon as I disconnect my phone, it makes a barely perceptible, high-pitched whining noise.
Does anyone else experience this? Is it a sign of potential danger? Is it wasting much electricity?
I've most definitely noticed, drives me crazy that I'm the only one in my house that can hear it.

I've had that problem also with my charger, actually just recently went into the at&t store and they replaced it without a problem, no questions asked

ughhhh, I hate when you guys find stuff that I never noticed. Now I'm gonna be hearing that too, probably.
charger is dying, unplug when not in use and get a new one asap
I have the same problem drives me crazy. Thanks for ATT replacement idea. I will see if they will replace mine this week.

Yup, mine randomly kicked in with the sound one day. Paused my TV and turned off the ceiling fan like 5 times before I tracked it down.

Anytime! They didn't give me the same one though, kinda sad because I liked the square copy-off-apple look of it, plus its tiny size but the new one isn't so much larger. Gets the job done that's all that matters I suppose

Just left att store with a new zero charger and new cable as well. I'll see if anything changes and report.
my charger does this also! Maybe that's why my phone acts screwy half the time while it's charging at home? My car charger it's always fine
Has anyone had any issues with the connectivity of the USB port when trying to charge? Mine doesn't always charge; I have to find the right position for it to make correct contact (it doesn't seem loose either). I've tried different cables and I applied a couple bursts of contact cleaner to it to see if that would help as well--no go though. Any ideas?
It's breaking. It's difficult to fix. You could see if someone will try to fix it for you but they gotta be pretty good. Otherwise invest in an external battery charger.

Bummer... I'll try and look for some kind of guide on the net. I've fixed other electronic devices in the past, so I'll give this a whirl... Thanks for the reply!
Godspeed! What happened to mine was the traces broke off from the motherboard so I had to re-attach the connector. The connector itself was still in good shape though. It was quite a challenge.

Are you seeing that the battery is intermittently charging when plugged up? My wife's phone is having issues and I have isolated it to the most likely culprit being the USB port, though the port is not lose and I have cleaned it out. All I can figure is that it has bad connections with the motherboard. Phone works fine if I externally charge the battery and insert. Wanted to see if you were seeing the same sort of things. At this point, for $139.95 and free shipping, I ordered a Blaze S 4G from Amazon for her, and will likely give the S 4G to my daughter to play with.

Yes, it'll go in and out of the charging state; but when I put it in the "right" position it'll go back to charging. I opened it up to see what the deal was and everything seems fine. However, I did get a chance to compare it to a "working" one and it seems the metal port housing is a little bit out of whack. So when I get some time I'm gonna see if I can get it back to normal--the metal seems a little flimsy.
Here's a really good guide that I used to take it apart: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMOdkBadlJU

Mine is doing the samething, 5 use an external charger with two batteries. I also use a different phone to upload roms, or anything else to the micro SD Card. Seems to work just fine.
Just got mine back from Josh over at mobiletechvideo. 35 bucks to change port. I couldn't buy a decent soldering iron and the part for that price.
Glad you got it fixed!
Another problem may be the USB cable itself -- My beloved OEM Samsung 2-meter cable doesn't work reliably any more, it needs to be "drooping" a bit to make contact (in any device).
I got in a nice ASUS TF101. It works great, but it doesn't charge. And there is a really weird smell coming from it, most notably in the battery area..
And, you'll call me crazy, but it smells like dead ants..
Has anyone every crushed an ant with your hand/fingers? And there is a weird smell when you do..
Well, that's exactly what this ASUS smells like.
Time to change the battery???

Have the same problem on 2 devices - it happend 2 days ago!
I pulled the battery and it looks pretty good. Intact, no burns or leakage.. And it's definitely the battery that is emitting the smell..
Going to try a couple different batteries today and see if that helps the charging issue..
I am just amazed it smells like crushed ants.. Go figger...
Thanx for the replies..

How were you using it?
Was it charging while playing games? Or just casual usage?
I've used it while charging it shouldn't be hot. I'm using a 2.0 charger too. I've done it with a case on and off. Swap it for another.
Bad unit? Mine is definitely not getting hot.
May be bad unit I guess. Was charging and downloading stuff from play store. It went so mush hot that I couldn't hold anymore. Had to lay it on down on the couch n use. @jaypeg123

I remember reading in the AMA thread about this. The combination of charging and downloading updates seem to get the phone heated up. Anyone else want to test this out?
It's an all metal body, so it's going to be warmer than a plastic phone especially during charging and first boot (optimizing apps). The body acts as a heat sink. It should never be too hot to hold, though. That's why I was asking what temperature it got up to.
Never had this problem so far.

FedEx just dropped mine off an hour or so ago.
yeah, it does get warmer than my Nexus 5 did. but it's nothing outrageous. likely because it's so thin. I'm going to slap a case on it soon anyway.
Is the bandwidth sharing enabled by default? That is known to generate extreme heat, and is only active when charging.
Anyone had issues with the phone charger?
My girlfriend is using an S7 and she has a lot of problems with the charger. Phone is not rooted or any custom ROM. Just stock. I replaced the chargers twice until now. The first one took almost a year to break. This one took like 6 months or so.. Has anyone encountered this type of issue before? All the chargers are taken directly from Samsung.
Charger starts to show signs of malfunction when it's missing the fast charge option or not charging at all. Then it returns to normal. Then in a matter of days the charger is not working anymore.
Phone variant is G930F. I'll attach a screen of Ampere after the last "charging" with the broken charger. It took the print screen after a minute or so. It's hard to keep a girl away from her phone.
P.S. Charger is 100% broken as I'm not able to charge my phone with it, so I just want to know if this is a phone issue or a voltage issue.
Sounds more likely that the phone is damaging the chargers vs you constantly getting bad charger replacements
Had mine a year now with no signs of problems and fast charging still working fine

You should bring it to the service center, and they will check the port for you. Thing is, the port might be bad, and for this reason it kills all the chargers you buy as a replacement. A sign of this if the charger cable gets very hot on the end closer to the port. I mean the micro usb plug itself. But thats one thing, if it isn't happening, the port could still be broken. You should go see if the port is fine. If it is, then I suspect it as a voltage issue in the house, or something. So worth checking that too. Hope you still have a guarantee on the phone. Because then they supposed to fix it no cost. You sholud try if data transfer is working through cable. If not then it shows again, port issue. If you don't want to to use the phone connected to a PC, or otherwise an easy solution could be buying a wireless charger. So then you didn't fixed the port, but the phone will be charging. But first make sure it's not the houses voltage problem, or the wallplug, because if it is, then it can ruin your wireless charger too.
Thats all I can help. Hope it helps.
Regards, and Good Luck fixing it!

Well thats not an easy one. But I don't really think that's the issue here. If she isn't living in an old house, then there is very little chance of a problem with the curcits. You should ask her if she had any random power breaks or such things in her house. Or light bulbs going wrong too fast. But as I said, I don't think thats the problem. It will be the port, I just mentioned the voltage as a possibility, and the thing what you should keep in mind.
So I suggest Her buying a wireless charger, as her phone is an S7, she can do that. But if I were in her situation I would bring it for a check to Samsung, or wherever she bought the phone (ofcourse if she still has a guarantee as I mentioned earlier). To tell the truth, as I see the problem is with the port, and depending on what you said, I don't think a home solution or buying another charger would be enough in this case.
That's why I mentioned trying wireless charging, because thats not using the port. I hope she can get the problem fixed soon. Poor girl without a phone...

Yeah, I would've sent it to warranty if she had any. She doesn't know much about phones so I feel responsible with this matter.

Yeah I think so too. And you know. There is the swag in that She can show to friends like: "Look my phone is charging without plugged in" or something like that.
Hope that really will help Make sure to send feedback if you fixed it somehow. I'm now planning to buy an S7, so I hope this is a one-of-a-kind problem.
Anyways Good luck really. If she buys a wireless charger make sure she is buying an original Samsung one, because that has fast charge included, and it will sure not ruin the phone.
I'm the one buying stuff here. Haha. Not interested in second hand/fake/refurbished phones.
She got the phone unsealed with "one hour use before" from a local "dealer". I don't approve this and I don't trust him. Apparently he's a good friend with some of her family's friends.
Still returning a phone after one hour of use is not something someone would do if it was working ok. He told me the other user loves Apple more.
Even though i think the other user didn't notice the voltage issue, as it took almost a year for me, until the first charger broke down.
But i prefer sealed products. Even though they don't have warranty as I flash a lot of stuff.
I'm also interested in buying an S7. I have been for the past year. But unfortunately I had to support my mom with some "donations". It's a damn good phone.
Will write here once I manage to get the Wireless Charger. Thank you for your help.

Okay so hi again! Just a quick update here. Maybe if someone reads later. So I was watching this video for fun:
There is a part of the video where he disconnects the battery. He clearly says that the micro-usb port and the wireless charging part is connected with a different cable. Thus the wireless charging still works, even if the port is broke.
I thought it was good to mention this, I was sure about this before, but here you can see clear confirmation on it. The part in question is somewhere in the middle of the video.
So if you manage to screw up your port, wireless charging will be still functional for sure!
Hope I could help!
