Anyone here using the tmobile $30 dollar prepaid plan and have issue getting LTE? I got my phone a bit over a week ago and love it but there is the issue of no lte. Somehow I can only get up to hspa+ on ym oneplus and this is the newest respond from tforce.
Thanks for checking back, our engineers said at this time it is not a feature we can push to a prepaid account and in order to achieve LTE on that device you would need to change to a no credit check account.
Any advise?

The only thing I know that will work is if you have another LTE phone. Is to activate it on that sim by giving them the IMEI number from that phone. Then put the sim back in your One Plus and make sure you have the right APN and you should be good to go.
If not your extra phone maybe a friends LTE phones IMEI number.
Good luck..
Few questions,
1. Are you on the right APN? fast.t-mobile.com on IPv6?
2. How old is your SIM card? Was the SIM card used in another device that is LTE enabled?
3. What OnePlus One do you have? International or Chinese version? (International has Cyanogen logo in the back)
4. Just FYI... "4G" on the OPO is LTE.
5. I believe I've known others who are using the $30 plan who are on LTE. I believe that the T Force member provided you with false information and wanted you to pay more. @jarjar124 is on the $30 plan so maybe he can provide some insight? I'm pretty sure $30 plan can get LTE. And I don't believe you need to provide them with your IMEI to be LTE provisioned. Thats what AT&T does, not T-Mobile.
If your phone is the Chinese version, then I don't think it can get LTE bands as T-mobile uses bands LTE 4/2

They played that game with the nexus 4 but it wasn't LTE but as you know with the modem hack most of use used it. But I had to give them my S3 IMEI. Then all was good. So maybe he is a new customer like I was at the time and they don't show the One as an LTE phone on there network as of yet.
But Yeah @jarjar124 is a great guy and he may be able to give more in site to this.
For me it says 4G, but I'm on LTE speeds. You can check using the speedtest app. Just don't do it quite often because it uses data like crazy lol. It worked out of the box for me. No needed to change APN or anything.

Yup.. used the Hybrid Radios to activate LTE. The last T-Mobile on contract phone I got from T-Mobile was the Galaxy S1 and didn't have any problems. The main thing I needed to do was to update my SIM card because it was a very old one that wasn't able to get LTE signals.
If the OP did get the Chinese version then I'm sure that he won't be able to get LTE I believe. I could be wrong though. I'll have to look this up but I think the highest signal they can get on TMo is HSPA
Edit: Yup I was right. https://forums.oneplus.net/attachments/untitled_1-jpeg.27662/
Chinese OPO LTE FDD: 1800/2100/2600MHz
TD-LTE....... (only used in China)
If you search on this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks
T-Mobile supports LTE Band 12 (limited markets, 700), 4(1700d,e,f), 2(1900)
So it is possible OP has the Chinese OPO which causes a conflict.

Really? Or is that just for simple choice plans? The prepaids don't have any of the advantages of the simple choice (free international texts/data, music streaming not counting etc). On my nexus 5, LTE worked out of the box too. Just needed the right APN.

It can also be the sim. Some sims can affect the cellular reception which can lead to your phone not reading LTE. How long did u leave your sim in? It can take time for it to switch from hspa to LTE. Where I live, it switches from hspa to LTE and vice versa constantly due to the buildings and coverage. I'm not a big person on cellular reception etc so someone please correct me if I'm wrong lol.

Good question, I have no idea. I'll have to go and take a look. Just applying common sense, I think it'd be everybody regardless of their plans since when you do a speedtest you do submit information to speedtest servers so it would only help t mobile to have the best results.

Can you show us your APN just so we can double check?
Where did you get your SIM card? From T-Mobile directly? Some sellers sell SIM cards but they don't have LTE support. Try putting your SIM card into your friend's phone and see if you get LTE on his phone.

Maybe the second one lol. The only way to really know is, well... surpass your 5GB monthly data allowance and then be throttled down then run a speedtest. See if the results return LTE speeds or your throttled speed.

After reading a the responses and seeing you talked to them and have a new sim. I would think it is what I was talking about that phone dose not show up in there system as an LTE device as of yet.
Does your friend have T-Mobile if so I would think that is the case. If you used his sim and got LTE. I had it happen as I stated with my nexus 4 as a new customer. But using me S3 IMEI it worked when I put the sim back in my N4.

The problem is that I don't think T-Mobile has OnePlus One IMEIs in their database. I've read that on a Reddit AMA with OnePlus employees. You'd have to give them a IMEI for a 4G compatible phone... or call them and hopefully you can find a good service representative who will help you out and provise you accordingly if everything else checks out (APN, SIM card, etc)

Hmm, well before your monthly cycle ends.... leave Netflix on over night or something so you can pass your limit and then you'll know if it counts for everybody lol. I usually run a speed test if im in a new area and then if its not high enough compared to my peak i just kill the app so it doesnt finish the speed test

Yeap that is what I am saying I have seen it happen to many others even with a new accounts when the nexus 5 came out. Just reading that he talked to a rep tells me that its not in the system yet. And if he is a new to T that could be it. Give an old or other 4g IMEI will work.

I will be travelling to Europe in the next few weeks, and have some questions about using my inspire.
I have already unlocked my phone by calling AT&T and getting the code, then inserting another SIM, and entering the code. So I am good to go in that regard.
When I get to Europe, I just buy a SIM card and put it in the phone, which will allow me to make calls. What about overseas calls?
What about data? Do the SIM cards allow you to access data? Will I get 4G, or be restricted to Edge?
Honestly, I am more interested in Data than voice, as I am more likely to send/receive e-mails that call.
Would I be better off signing up temporarility with one of the AT&T international plans?
Thanks!

Research the area you are going and find which the carriers are and see who's related to who. If you find a carrier thats somewhat related to att you may get 3g or 4g, but T-Mobile you'll get edge. Also call or get in contact with carrier and see what they have, dunno how it works overseas cuz i never really been overseas with my phone. Hope it helps and if anyone see anything I mentioned that's wrong you're welcome to A) correct me and B) call me mean evil names =D

Bluizzo you ninja turtle you. Lol just a slight correction. Europe uses different bands than us. So no 3g, just good old edge. Though I think I saw someone post that their country used our bands somewhere. But generally they use the 900/2100 for 3g.
I would get a prepaid sim from a euoropean carrier. They have way better deals that put our prices to shame.

Yeah there are some countries that use the same bands
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
The main countries that uses the same ATT band are Canada and Australia for 3G. The rest use the same bands Tmobile uses.
Thanks for the info. Looks like I will be picking up a SIM when I get there.
Hopefully my reply is not too late.....
I have been travelling to London for work for the last several months and have used O2 as the carrier on my Inspire. I was able to get a pay as you go SIM with a data plan. You will need to manually enter the APN information get the data and MMS working properly. I found the APN info by doing a web search.
And yes the service was Edge and not 3G.

EDGE should be an "E". "G" is GPRS which is like 1G or worse, but hey, if it works for you, then great, but you should be able to get EDGE with the proper APN.

Can't seem to get EDGE, just the G. Which is OK, since all I am doing is checking e-mails.
However, my battery life has improved dramatically. I don't even need the powerskin case here. Battery lasts all day, no problem.
It's incredible how much battery is used by a fast network.

Indeed. Especially if it needs to boost the radio for reception. I was camping a few months back on the fringe of coverage area. The first day, I left mobile networks on and it kept going in and out of coverage and my battery was dead within about 14 hours. The next day, with a fresh charge from my car, I turned off mobile networks and I still had 80% battery by the end of the day.

I traveled to Thailand earlier this year and used a local sim for voice and data.
You'll likely need to be on a touch wiz ROM. I highly recommend you install one before you leave. You can't go wrong with cleanrom. Beans is also good if you like also roms. I used beans 14 at the time.
You'll need to add the pay as you go global voice and data feature to your plan. You can do that online or over the phone. You'll also need an app to swap apn's to use data on your third party carrier's sim card. I use apn manager pro.
Once you have the new sim, turn off you phone and swap out your Verizon sim. Pop the new one in and power on. You should be connected for voice at least. Now use your apn app to input the new carrier's info. Most of the time you can search for it online, but it's best to get it when you buy your sim.
When you return just replace the sim and return to verizon apn settings. And for the love of all that is holy, don't use your Verizon service overseas. It's expensive.

i'm not sure if they lied - my understanding was that you can easily swap a local SIM in to get access to voice and text, but that data does not work (at least out of the box). there's another post that talks about swapping APNs, which is what you would need to do. i thought that the latest OTA allowed that flexibility though...? i'm rooted and use Beans B14 though, so i don't keep up with OTAs.
for what it's worth, i went to europe recently and used 97 MB over a two week period. i saved all google maps offline before heading there, checked emails and used internet only on wifi, and only used mobile data occasionally when i was out and about in order to look up restaurant reviews and whatnot.
they pro-rated the $25 over half the month so my bill was only $14 more than it would have been normally. for me, at $14 it was worth it so i didn't have to screw around with buying a local SIM and worrying about things not working.

The sim is a small card inserted in the back of your phone next to where you'd put the SD card. It lets you connect to the cellular provider. You have a Verizon sim card in your phone. There are several sizes. The GS3 uses a micro-sim card. If you turn your phone off now and take the back panel off, you'll see it. I can't remember, but it may be under the battery.
If your phone isn't rooted, which it doesn't appear to be, then you won't be able to get data service, but you can still get phone service with an overseas carrier. You can see my earlier post for steps, but all you need to do is have Verizon add the Global Roaming feature to your plan. When you get to Europe, you can buy a micro-sim from one of the local carriers and put some money on a pre-pay plan. Turn off your phone and swap out the verizon sim for the local sim. Turn your phone back on and you'll have voice service.
The APN info needs to be changed to connect to data services after the sim card is changed out, but you need to have a rooted phone for this. You can change that with an app. I use APN Manager Pro. There are several fields you have to enter, but you can get it from the carrier. It's a little like telling your computer what IP server to connect to to get internet access.
Another option entirely is to get a Google voice number and use a service like GrooveIP or Talkatone. You won't have cell service, but you can make and recieve calls using your Google voice number when connected to wifi. This will let you call back to the U.S. for very cheap rates.
The easiest thing would be just call on Verizon using their global roaming feature, but it can get pricey. Ask Verizon for roaming rates in the countries you'll be going to.
[edited for clarity]
just came back from Europe and I was able to buy two prepaid data cards(Wife and I) in Germany(Orange) and Italy(TIM) and was able to get HPSA+ data without any issues, all I had to do is add the APN setting into my phone and I was good to go. I was on CM10.1 and wife on stock rom and didnt have any issue getting them to work. Good Luck

Hey !
So i purchased a Verizon galaxy s3 a few months back on Craigslist. I'm currently living in Mexico so I'm using Telcel Mexico as my carrier.
I rooted it and added the apn for telcel using hiapn and currently internet and data is working but all i'm getting is Edge or 2G speed.
I've looked around and read various different posts, it seems that verizon blocks the the speed.
This is deffinitely a hindrance for me since web browsing is really slow and downloads are even worse. If i flash a different Rom with this be taken care of ? Does anyone know of any other way of dealing with this ?
Please help! I've looked everywhere in vain
I do not think flashing any type of Rom will increase your data speed since it depends on the radio frequenices allowed for your device.
continued - thanks for answering so fast

So there is nothing to be done then ?
I can not say for your specific carrier.
But it seems that your apn settings are correct because you are getting edge/2g speeds.
The problem is what frequency Telcel uses for 4g/LTE and the frequency Verizon allows for that device.

I'm sorry, I'm still trying to make sense of all of this. so you're saying it's hardware related, in other words the phone doesn't have the right frequencies to pick up the 4g ? or that verizon has blocked it somehow and that's why it's not working?
if that's the case do you think something can be done to unlock it?
thanks again

I hadn't heard of Verizon throttling international carriers. The first thing I'd check would be coverage area or maybe the service you purchased doesn't include 3G. I've been able to get 3G service internationally.
The Verizon S3 uses [EDIT]:
2G Network CDMA 800 / 1900 - SCH-I535
3G Network CDMA2000 1xEV-DO - SCH-I535
4G Network LTE 700 MHz Class 13 - SCH-I535
If telcel doesn't use CDMA, that could be your problem.
sorry for delay

After investigating it, it seems that TELCEL uses the TDMA 850 / GSM 1900 / UMTS 850 frequency bands for its network. So this would mean that since they use a different frequency for 3g and 4g than my phone there's nothing to be done right ?
Cheers.

Yup, that would be the problem. Here's some info on the differences between the networks.

Verizon offers global roaming there with 3g service in Mexico. They must partner with another network. Here's a list of available service by country:

Here are the specs for the Verizon Galaxy S3:
LTE, CDMA/PCS/1xEVDO Rev. A (800/1900 MHz)
Global: GPRS/EDGE/GSM (850/900/1800/1900); HSPA/UMTS (2100)
I don't know the answer to your question but I use a "Movistar" wireless carrier SIM in Mexico on my Verizon S3 and I get ~150kbps data speed. Its not very fast but at least it's something...
So let me get this straight...
So once I root my phone I can use it for Sprint? Also, does my phone have gsm capability?
No. You can't just use it for sprint. But it is a global capable device and supports international gsm.

Tmo has unlocked BL as well and has the 850 and 1700 freq unlocked. Is this the one that I should order on The 3rd?
Was gonna get a note 2 but figures since I'm buying out right might as well get the best.

I bet the carriers had something to do with the pricing and Samsung with the international models doesn't want to under cut them. There is also regional pricing. Whatever they feel like is a good price considering the competition and people I guess.
We know that from the FCC papers that Tmobile version will work on AT&T LTE but what If those specific bands were locked or not turned on in their radio? We dont have a real world proof yet.
Gonna order mine in 2 days... will post when I get it from time I order to in my hand. I have the new LTE sim cards from STart as well so I can see what happens. I am not LTE yet but hopefully soon. Thanks for the input. ?

It will work but you are going to get throttled.............
They have actually set a cap on it now and it is 2.5 gigabytes.....

I'm also interested to see how this goes. I might wait a few weeks to get the phone, but I do plan on getting one that can work on AT&T's 3G/LTE bands on ST, since T-mobile coverage in my area is pretty poor. Keep us updated, OP, and thanks.

I have ATT LTE Straight Talk sim card. if you notice their policy changed. you only get 2.5GB of unlimitted data at LTE speeds then you are dropped down to 2G Edge speeds until the next billing cycle. If I were you I would try a few of the other carriers. (MVNOs) Be aware that over the past week quite a few of them have changed their policies to allow on y the first 2.5GB at LTE speeds. You can always go to Simple Mobile and pay $60 to get 5GB at LTE speeds. Target just opened up BrightSpot Mobile which has a decent plan for $60 5GB of LTE data. There are alot of MMVNOs to consider.
Any updates
Just wanted to see if anyone could post any updates of how there experience has been with this phone on Straight Talk? Thanks!

Mine has been awesome!
In Ohio with AT&T on the N9005.
They WILL throttle you after 2.5GB, but only during peak hours for your tower
I was able to use all data I wanted (HSPA+. no LTE since I have N9005 and not N900T or N900A) without being throttled at my house out in the boonies. As soon as I go into the city, data speed drops to 250kbps once I've used my 2.5GB. Speed is around 6mbps when I'm not throttled.
PS. My parents have ST on their Nexus 5's and they get 30-50 mbps when not throttled and 250kbps when throttled. If you have the N900T ot N900A, you could expect a similar speed on LTE.
I have Straight Talk with a T Mobile SIM in my Nexus 5 and I am getting awesome LTE coverage, although my friend has the exact same setup and is only getting H data and not LTE. We are both using the same APN settings, and the only difference that I can think of is that I bought my SIM card more recently. I didn't think that the T Mobile SIMs on Straight Talk supported LTE, but I am definitely getting it and was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same. If you are getting LTE, what are your APN settings?

That's what I thought, but I am definitely on Straight Talk with a T Mobile sim and am getting LTE data. Not just in my area either, since I recently took a trip and had LTE coverage in many major cities.
I can confirm that the new ST T-Mobile SIM cards support LTE. Received my new SIM one week ago and have been enjoying LTE speeds for the past week. Interestingly, the color of the SIM card was hot pink as opposed to the light pink T-Mobile SIM I used to have.

Thanks for this. I tried to contact useless Straight Talk support regarding this question. They didn't seem to understand it, sent me the at&t APN settings, when I called them on it, they sent me the non-smartphone APN settings. They said that yes, t-mobile does support LTE, not just H+ (but I didn't actually trust them to understand the question), however said nothing about needing a new sim card. I have the light pink sim right now.
However I'm still not entirely convinced. Here's a picture on ebay of what I assume is the new hot pink sim:
http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Straight-Talk-Micro-SIM-Card-T-Mobile-Network-/00/s/MTYwMFgxMjAw/z/b7gAAOxy3zNSlQHw/$_57.JPG
You can see clearly on the card that it admits "4g" is HSPA+, not LTE. I'm also suspicious because T-Mobile has a different APN setting for LTE, while Straight Talk does not. Has anyone checked the "Mobile Network Type" in settings to verify that you really truly are getting LTE? Could the hot pink be because it's in micro sim size? The at&t cards have a similar color scheme (light blue for full sized sim, dark blue for micro), and I think offering the Micro Sim size for t-mobile is new, but the internals of the sim may not be.
Can someone post a speedtest speeds result of their "LTE" speeds? My H+ speeds are very fast, so I don't know if there'll be much difference..

Just curious if anyone here has been cutoff by straight talk. I read the small print, and you are only unlimited on their web space. So technically they can cut you off if you use too much data.

Its unlimited 2.5gb LTE. Then they throttle you down.. Maybe if you blew threw all your 2.5gb in five minutes by downloading a torrented movie they'd shut you off. All your data in less then a day.

Looks promising, you must be in a test area.
I just got a nexus 5 on at&t and I am getting some weird speed test results. My download speed on LTE is getting around 3-4 mb but my upload speed is around 15-17. How can this be? My APN settings seem correct. Could it be anything with the simcard or just network issues? I am in the Cleveland Ohio area so its full blown LTE . I have been expecting at least around the 17-20 LTE speed at minimum. Any advice?

i have seen this kind of behavior on my network when i am throttled for speed. but it could be different for you.
Does this time to time for me on s4. After a while it clears up. I think it's something on the att network end.

So just as a followup to my original post... i chatted with an online AT&T support rep about my situation and it appears they are saying that my Nexus 5 is not shown to be connected to their LTE network..even though my phone shows I am connect to LTE. They show it is registered for LTE on their end but it is not actually connected to LTE at all... its only connected to their GSM network (4g HSPA / 4g HSPA+). They are opening a ticket for it and i should hopefully hear back from them in the next few days. Has anybody ever heard of this happening? The phone actually showing its connected to LTE but actually on the networks end, it really is not? If this really is the case, there would be no way to actually know this. Only from my feeling that my speed tests did not seem right to what i was expecting from LTE.

Im interested in hearing what you find out.
Thanks for going through the steps.
I will let you guys know what the outcome is... i just did a few more speed tests through download Cleveland, OH (which is LTE) and my results are still very strange... about 3-4 mbps down while 12-14 mbps upload.... it just almost seems like my download speeds are that of HSPA where my upload speeds are more on the line of LTE speeds. Very strange.
i made a very interesting discovery when playing with my apn settings... my two default apns after putting my att sim card in were ATT Phone and ATT WAP.... if i were to run speed test after speed test using these default apn settings.. i would notice my download speed start up around 5-7 mbps but the quickly drop down to around 3.... and it has been consistently doing that.. while my upload speed would be higher.... now if I just change the ATT Phone APN to pta instead of phone and then run the speed test, it get around 10-12 download speed with a similar upload speed to the first.... it almost seems like the phone apn is throttling or capping my download speed but the change to pta seems normal.. with upload speeds being uneffected.... anybody have any clue what could be happening? i mentioned this to a rep about am i being throttled speedwise and they said no of course... i am still waiting to hear back regarding my ticket but i will be sure to mention this to them.... just hoping somebody knows whats going on out there and can help out in the meantime.... very strange..................... and it has to be something with the phone apn because my wife has an att moto x and i matched her apn settings to a tee and she gets 17 mb down while mine is still around 3... but the change to pta gets it much closer to her speeds with her att branded moto x. will be curious to hear your thoughts out there in xda land!!!
I have AT&T as well. I used the default APN. I get anywhere from 20mbit to 30mbit on LTE around here both upload and download.
I would be *VERY* careful when you call AT&T. Their system does not recognize the Nexus 5 since they don't sell it, and when giving the IMEI to set the provisions in their system for data and services it sometimes gives it a "dumb phone" data plan which only lets it connect to 3G. (It would show HSPA or HSPA+ or 3G on status bar though). Some people were forced to grab friends IMEI's and tell them they had some phone AT&T supports like a Galaxy S4 or something that uses LTE to get reprovisioned for LTE support.
Sounds to me like you're just on a bad set of towers. I used to get 30-50mbit with my Galaxy S4 when they first turned LTE on in my area back in June 2012. Right before I sold my S4 I was only getting 20-30mbit, and I get the same with my Nexus 5 now as more and more users in the area started getting and using the LTE service, it bogged the towers down. Perhaps channels they reserve for upstream/upload only aren't affected as much as downstream/download channels?

Yea exactly. I also kept my IMEI on file from that phone in case I ever need to call support so they still think I have the phone since the Nexus phones are totally unsupported on their end. They refuse to give the least amount of support even to any phone that has a unlocked or unlockable bootloader on their network.
