Mahadi ROM Customize - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to customize mahadi rom. I was using xposed on my stock before. The two important things i want are:
1. Add-Blocker for mahadi.
2. Android L Navigation buttons.
3. Good 2G and 3G switcher application.
If any of these features are available in Mahadi ROM please let me know how to enable it. Else i am looking for apps which can do this.

1. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190753
2. Download a custom theme preferably themed Android L.. a example theme, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tung91.lconcept
3. Settings -> Battery -> battery saver mode -> gsm networks... power saving network mode.

Thanks for the information. What is the optimum settings I should Keep in Battery Saver Mode. I am a bit confused and less confident. If you can paste screen shots here it will be great help.

Post screenshots of what exactly? I personally don't use Battery Saver Mode.

Ok, Actually I switched Mahdi ROM only for reason that I want better battery backups and some customization. Can you help me with some battery saving techniques?

- Make sure your phone is deep sleeping. Use Wakelock Detector, BetterBatteryStats, Gsam and that there are not any partial wakelocks. If there are remove that app.
- Use a custom kernel such as Franco Kernel to underclock your maximum CPU frequency and GPU frequency.
- Disable sync for those applications you don't need in Google.
- Manually sync apps that you don't need notifications in, like twitter / facebook / instagram / etc.
The list goes on and on but those are the major ones. Wakelock being the most significant.

He's right, removing unwanted apps will help, especially if they are running in the background. I'd also check how often apps like Facebook, Twitter, emails etc check for updates or sync. Using automatic brightness levels (decreasing brightness) or power saver modes will also help. Reducing phone useage sounds funny, but he's correct. If you are constantly playing games or streaming media online your battery is going to run out fast. Try to use wifi rather than your data connection. If you root your device and flash a custom rom, it'll probably increase your battery life as well. All the top dev's tweak their roms to increase battery life. Hope this helps
Avoid CPU intensive applications, dim your screen, put your tablet / phone in stand by when you are not using it or background downloading an application, if you are using an application that does not require wifi, such as a game like Angry Birds or mupen 64 plus disable it if you're listening to music , turn down the volume just a little bit. All these things should increase your battery life hope that helped update 11 -3- 15 though I've never actually tried custom roms I read and seen on YouTube that some custom ROMs like the highly popular CyanogenMod have loads of battery saving features. I wish you the best.

Yes I do. I used greenify but my moto g still drain fast. From 100 % to 20 % just 10 hours.
I used Nova Launcher Prime, BBM, Line and WA.
Disable Location service / GPS , also when you had weak signal from your Provider, it will reduce the battrey alot., you might want to set to 2G only, or better yet, use Wifi instate
I must be the only one that gets no benefits from greenify.
I will recommend Apex launcher, it is ligh and memory+battery friendly.
Use Greenify (If possible donation version) it can hibernate system apps like hangouts, google+ etc when not in use.

You can also try the Hibernate app (not Greenify) you can find it in the Store.
For the others,
There are a lot of custom kernels that improve battery. Find one that suits you.

[[TIPS]] For Battery Saving!

Yo Guys! Today I am here with a set of tips for saving battery on your android phones!
P.S.: Applicable for Both Unrooted/Rooted Devices.
BUT I AM FOCUSING MOSTLY ON UNROOTED USERS.
So let's Start.
OPTIMIZING HOME SCREENSMost of the Android devices come with a set of 3/5 home screens with shortcuts and widgets, by default.
Now, we need to work on it.
1. Keep only one home screen, delete the rest.
2. Delete all the widgets and shortcuts from the home screen. [Optional: Dock Bar]
3. Try NOT to set a live wallpaper on your device. That eats a lot of battery.
4. Set A Dark Static wallpaper, avoid using Dark shaded wallpaper. [Thanks to Sumeet Darade for this tip]
5. In short, keep ONE crystal clean home screen.
APP DRAWER
When it comes to app drawer, these are the tips that can be implemented.
1. Sort the Apps alphabetically, as it removes the extra unnecessary screens dedicated for the apps.
2. If you have a custom effect for the drawer, select the Stack effect. It works smooth and best.
3. When using a custom Launcher, Do NOT apply heavy sized themes, especially when you are using a 3D Launcher.
4. In short, the app drawer must be Alphabetically sorted, and should be clean, too.
TASK MANAGERS/BATTERY SAVERS
Honestly saying, I always prefer NOT to use a 3rd Party Task Manager or a Battery Saver.
Why?
Talking about the task managers and battery savers that claim to clear your tasks and save your battery[P.S.: I am talking about Unrooted devices], get one thing straight that they DO NOT clear themselves from the memory.
They constantly work in background, hence in simple terms, they consume battery and RAM, too.
Prefer NOT to use such things, including Antivirus apps [Honestly saying, Android doesn't need a antivirus] and Internet boosters, included.
MISCELLANEOUS1. Turn OFF Auto Sync.
2. Turn OFF Auto Brightness.
3. Set Brightness on LOW for Normal Use.
4. Turn Data/WiFi/BlueTooth OFF when not needed.
5. DISABLE SYSTEM APPS THAT YOU DO NOT USE/NEED.
APPS THAT CAN HELP YOU TO SAVE BATTERY1. CUSTOM LAUNCHERS:
Custom Launchers are really helpful to reduce RAM usage and Battery Usage.
There are many Launchers around the Play Store, and if asked, I recommend to use Smart Launcher 2 and Nova Launcher [BOTH ARE FREE].
2. GREENIFY:
When it comes to battery saving, Greenify CANNOT be missed!
For unrooted users,
1. Install Greenify from Play Store. [It's Free.]
2. Go to Settings/Accessibility and Turn On Greenify.
3. Open Greenify and click on "+" symbol. Now select apps that you rarely use, like All the Internet Browsers, Games, Photo Editors, etc.
4. Now after selecting get back to main screen of the app and press "Zzz" icon. It will start hibernating the apps.
5. Place Hibernate Apps+Lock Screen widget on Home screen.
6. Whenever you are bout to Lock the screen, just press the shortcut. It will force close all the running apps and lock the screen automatically after that!
That's It for today! Hope you understood all the tips!
Regards,
Aniruddha_Pathak.

Why does greenify record all of my information? It's reading petsonal messages. Possibly of a sensitive nature. Can I stop it from transmitting data without interupting the service provided?

Poor RAM Management on OnePlus 6 6GB RAM

It frequently reloads apps and I'm using stock OxygenOS 5.1.11 but I have been facing this issue in previous versions too. It doesn't even hold 5 apps in memory and redraws few apps every time out of these 5. When I open the Camera app, every app reloads. I'm very dissatisfied with this poor RAM management while my Redmi Note 3 performs better in this category
I'm not sure how many apps mine holds in background, but it's alot. Not sure how many days.. But more than one..
Are you sure you don't have any battery saving apps? I know greenify kills background apps as an example.
I don't have any battery saving apps. My phone is rooted with magisk and it's having an unlocked bootloader. I'm feeling very bad with my phone's performance.
Mine too. But I still don't face this issue.
Do you have the same 6GB RAM variant?
8gb here. 6gb shouldn't be that bad I feel :s
It's worse than a budget mobile
I am sure you can sell it for a good.price and get a budget mobile instead... (I also had a redmi note 3 - and for me the two phones do not compare at all. The redmi is ok - but it is much inferior in all aspects)
Personally I am very pleased with the phone and have no ram issues whatsoever
I use greenify and I regularly (by choice) dump all apps and I still have a very fast experience . Why does it bother you? Does it make your phone slow(er)?

what mods do you have installed and are you a lite, median, heavy user.
For me, i'm a lite user with less then 80 apps installed. One charge for me last between 3 to 5 days. Thats on Pie beta 2 as well.
Medium user, I generally switch between Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, Reddit and Gmail. Surprisingly these reload everytime. My battery lasts a full day on LTE.
OOS definitely kills background apps regardless of the available memory.
Go to battery optimization, select the app which you need to keep running in the background, and selct Don't optimize. You shall be able to disable optimization for user apps only(system apps won't be listed).
[Update] I have disabled advanced optimisation and dirty flashed OOS Rom and voila, OnePlus 6 is the speed you need!

Settings - Battery - Battery optimization - (3 dots on the top right) - Advanced optimization
Settings - Advanced - Recent app management
I was having similar issues until I figure out these settings. Was using Nexus/Pixel/HTC before and they don't have such aggressive background controls.
Some apps don't behave well and keep waking up, so I do understand the point of these controls. Personally I choose to do it by my self using apps like Brevent/Greenify so I have more controls.

[Guide][Pie][root] Improve Battery Endurance (Upd 2019-08-29)

Upd 08-29:
Update LKT to v1.9.3 (section 1)
Upd 08-07:
Switch off bluetooth when not in use, bluetooth scanning sucks a lot of juice (section 6)
Upd 07-20:
Systemize Greenify and exclude it from doze mode (section 3)
This is a guide to improve the battery endurance of our rooted XZ2 serie devices. It will provide useful tweaks/tips to do so on Pie but it also works on Oreo. It seems that Oreo Sony stock rom was far better optimized than Sony stock Pie in term of battery, so this guide will be particularly useful on Pie. Futher suggestions are welcome, don't hesitate.
Note that just after Pie upgrade, the device eats a lot of juice (AI algorithms work a lot to calibrate various things) for several days. But then, it seems that Pie remains far less efficient than Oreo in term of battery endurance (but actually it can depend on your device usage).
1. Install the magisk module LKT (Legendary Kernel Tweaks)
- Install the magisk module Busybox for android NDK,
- follow the instructions in the LKT thread,
- set the module on performance,
- after reboot, you can check LKT logs (/data/LKT.prop) to be sure that LKT tweaks have been applied as they should,
- use your device and enjoy a SoT gain of about +1.5 hrs,
- regularly check the LKT thread because this module is regularly uptated.
2. Install Lspeed app
Some Lspeed tweaks are redundant with those of LKT module, so just enable these tweaks:
- Global optimization: disable debugging, disable kernel panic, set animation scales to your taste,
- Battery: enable doze optimization (do not enable agressive doze unless you know what it implies...),
- CPU, LNET: don't enable anything (redundant with LKT),
- IO optmizations: enable partitions remount, disable I/O stats
- RAM optimizations: disable multitasking limitations
- Fstrim sheduler: 24h.
3. Install Greenify
- Systemize it (privapp) with the magisk module App Systemizer or instead install the magisk module Green2Priv (Upd 07/20)
- Exclude Greenify from doze (in settings - battery optimizations) (Upd 07/20)
- Lauch the app and go to settings to set the app parameters,
- freeze the apps you want (use Gsam battery monitor to detect the apps that undesirably eat battery).
4. Disable apps autostart
- Install All-In-One Toolbox app,
- Swipe down, in startup section: disable some apps autostart,
- In menu parameters: disable notifications or actions that you don't need.
5. Debloat the rom
- Some system apps, that we don't need, eat ram and battery but always do a twrp backup before debloating...
- Use @serajr debloat script,
- Alternatively, use Root ToolCase to debloat, this is a great app.
6. Disable bluetooth
- Switch off bluetooth when not in use, bluetooth scanning sucks a lot of juice...
That's all. Enjoy a much better battery life !!

- Thanks to @korom42 for his wonderful LKT module
- Thanks to @Paget96 for his wonderful Lspeed app
res
It seems that media apps need to be optimized for Pie to not drain battery (it is explained elsewhere...)
I was shocked by the strong battery drain by the Sony Music app on Pie, so I've tested the Google Music app: it does not drain strong!!
So, the conclusion is obvious: the Sony Music app is not yet optimized for Pie. Use Google media apps for the moment, not the Sony ones!
Upd 03-18
And finally... Sony has optimized its music app (v9.4.3.A.0.3) for Pie, it's no longer a battery drainer, no longer need to use an alternative player

just go to settings batt. check the apps using the battery. if you see Android System tap it and restrict it under batt restriction. this helped me lower down its part on the graph. before doing this it usually takes 10% to 15% after restricting it only goes to 5% sometimes even lower.

You would need to unlock on newest PIE firmware and test it. (Camera still works).
Or after unlocking downgrade to Oreo and apply the xperifix.
Or switch to my custom ROMs next month.
We've got RAW. (I assume at the end of this we'll get our next camera update by the sony engineers to raise the quality again).
