Keyboard lag!!!! - AT&T LG G3

Holy crap I love the smart keyboard on this phone but it has gotten to the point of insane lag! Is there a way to stop this lag? I want to keep using it and am forced to use another keyboard now because of this

Restart phone or get new keyboard.
When my Moto G had keyboard lag I switched to ART so there's always that. Also this belongs in the Q&A section.
I recommend the android L keyboard in the amazon appstore.

Swiftkey does the same exact thing, sometimes takes up to 4-5 seconds for it to pull up.

The stock LG keyboard has been excellent for me. Swiftkey got laggy ever since it went free, it always take a second or two for it to pull up. With the stock keyboard it's instantaneous:good:

I was having issues with different things here and there out of the box. Week later I went back to Dalvik, factory reset, and viola, smooth...

Are you running a stock G3 or rooted / modded?

i have a feeling you have the bilingual option turned on and if you do that options lags the keyboard aaaa lot like it crawls and i say this cause i had it cause i had the keyboard to work with Spanish and English so it showed me both suggestions like my xperia tl did but o boy does this keyboard doesn't like it, makes me wonder why is the feature there when it doesn't even work.

You are correct as I speak to many of my family members in Italia. As soon as I update the bilingual dictionaries its a slug fest. Have to use the google keyboard to be able to use my phone

It's sad that such feature which works on other third party keyboards won't work on the stock one

The stock keyboard offers some nice features, but I found the lag astonishingly bad on my stock G3. It was to the point that it was just impossible to type,. I had to type literally one character every 4 or 5 seconds in order for it to not just break down and come up with gibberish.
Went back to my old standard, Go Keyboard. Bought SwiftKey years ago but the predictive text was making me nuts. Went to Go Keyboard for free and never looked back. Also, Go provides left-right-down-up arrows to navigate the cursor when you cannot place it where you want. Very handy.

The only keyboard that actually doesn't freeze up for me is the Google keyboard

Is there a keyboard with the numeric numbers on top with built in emoji no need to download an app or plug in?

Swiftkey

+1

Fleksy has been solid for me

I'm usually a big fan of aftermarket keyboards. However, for some reason or another I actually like the stock one. Especially with the l theme. I had bad lag as well until I turned off vibrate on tap. A feature I do t usually use and it made a world of difference. No lag!

Fixed it
Go to Settings->App
Find LG Keyboard and clear cache
You can select also to Erase Data but you'll lose the settings of your keyboard
I've done only Clear Cache and things are a lot faster.

Why are androids typing corrections so dumb?? Random capitalizations...

Coming from having an iphone for ~3 years and having an amazing correction system despite not having a custom user dictionary....the correction system on android is HORRIBLE.
If i make a mistake and just use the space bar to automatically fill in the word, it always seems to put the Capitalized version of the word i Want, so it looks Like this sentence; just random capitalized in the middle of a sentence.
Or, i just made a mistake, and it corrected me with the word "changed", which was ok because that was actually very close to what i wanted: "changes". So when i backspaced to change the "d" to an "s", it puts a capitalized S at the end of a word. Or i mistype the word are and accidentally put in "sre", the choice it will put in if i hit space is "Are", yet "are" is right next to it....
It has happened on the android keyboard and Better Keyboard from the market. I like auto capitalization to be on, but jeez it obviously knows what word i want because it puts the lower cased version of the word right next to the capitalized version....i just dont understand how it cant be smart enough to understand that we dont want a capitalized word in the middle of a sentence.
Is there any hope?? A setting i am missing or maybe another keyboard i can try that doesn't do this?? Sorry for the rant! I tried to get used to it but it didn't work...
Personally I use Smart keyboard pro, but if you don't want to spend any money better keyboard is quite nice. But I agree, the default keyboard is terrible

im currently using Better Keyboard and it does the same capitalization errors....i may check out Smart Keyboard
This is so effin stupid, simple if the word your looking for its not highlighted click on the arrow and look for the word you intended. At least the keyboard give you suggestions unlike the iPhone. How many time the iPhone keyboard suggested me the wrong effin word. Frustrating. BTW I'm using Better keyboard. The captivate community are plain morons never heard things like over at the nexus one threads. I get it this is at&t first good android so people are just a lil daze and confuse coming from and iPhone.

Oh I forgat. I have auto~capitalization ON and what you explain never happen to me on neither keyboard.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I use the keyboard ripped from from teh droid x, it also works better if you dont have sticks for fingers
I don't care how stupid you think this is. Yep I am coming from an iPhone and I can guarantee you that the iPhones correction system was twice as good as androids even without the word choice. And yes, all I have to do is reach up and tap the correct word but in my opinion, it should never even give me a capitalized word if I am typing in the middle of the sentence.
And if it has never happened to you, then that is the reason I asked the question. To me, it seems simple enough and I figured I was just missing some setting. But, im currently using Smart Keyboard Pro and have yet to have it happen. It happens with both the android keyboard and Better Keyboard, but hasn't happened yet with this one.

Even worse than the private beta... Backspace doesn't work or does WEIRD stuff randomly, and they've somehow screwed it up so on non-phone size res it shows a tiny little square of the keyboard in the middle of the screens. I've used quite a few other Swiftkey versions on my tablet, this is the first to do this nonsense.
I went back to the private beta.
BTW, what's an ass truck?

Note how this has being showing that since the beginning.
I tried it today for the first time. I must say I absolutely love it. Sometimes it just adds a word randomly, probably a setting. But I with this application I can type faster then with swype.
SwiftKey X is amazing, the best keyboard (for me)
I hope we can get more themes for it.
I got an email this morning that its out of beta and limited time 1.99 on the market. Also they said its free if you bought the first one. But I can't figure out how to download it free.

The prev version was free for a day on Amazon app store... so will we get new version free as well??
How is this app compared to Swype?
i personally like it a lot. its kinda like the old t9 that had predictive words only in the sense of it would try to predict the next word based on the word you just type. (predictive word) i find it very useful. dont get me wrong i love swype & betterkeyboard as well but a great keyboard none the less. definitely worth taking a look!
i text about 3-4000 texts a month and with this being my default keyboard thats really saying a lot.

Changing keyboard on inspire

Okay I've searched through the forums kind of half assed but I don't feel like wasting time anyway
I'm displeased with HTC's touch input keyboard and back when I had my captivate I bought smart keyboard pro because I could pretty much choose how big the space bar was cause I have a tendency to hit the period button constantly when I'm typing fast and it annoys the crap out of me I have it installed on my HTC but it won't let me use it or switch keyboards is there some trick I don't know to using a different keyboard? Or is it even possible?

Did you go to keyboard settings and put a check in the box to turn it on?
After that, long press on any text box and choose input method.

Lol. But it's ok for everyone to waste their time answering your question.
Not a great intro for requesting the time of others who HAVE chosen to waste their time learning about their phones.
Menu>settings>language&keyboard settings
you should be able to figure it out from there. If you don't see your downloaded/installed keyboard, uninstall and reinstall, rinse, repeat..

I have a tendency to do the same thing with the stock keyboard, hitting the period instead of the space bar. It is because the keyboard is not centered due to the arrow buttons and stock buttons on the right. I have found that sliding my fingers more under the phone with the left hand versus the right hand helps. I've also tried searching for an alternative keyboard, but found nothing I was pleased with. I do like the stock keyboard, with the exception of those arrow buttons on the right, even though I do find them handy at times.

You have to long press in the text input area and select input method and choose your keyboard. Well at least for me on the Unity rom it sticks that way. YMMV on stock or other roms

There are ways and then there are ways to approach a newbie question.... I know, because after more than 10 years as a Windows Mobile user I just switched to my first Android a couple of months ago and browsed here looking for an answer to this very same question. If you have an Inspire (like I do) and, quite surely, got it from AT&T (like I also do), then you'll face the same problem like the guy who started this thread (changing your default keyboard is just NOT an option, aka hidden by the AT&T "geniuses" by default....). But I tried this option quoted above and worked for me. (Thanks, sparker!!) At least till I reboot my phone, I guess....
Again, there's always more than one way to approach a question, regardless how naive it may sound!!

[Q] SwiftKey X keyboard

So I saw this post this morning on Engadget and it looks to be pretty awesome for the tablet world. But when i go to the market my TF is not compatible with this app. Nothing states in that post that it wont work, just says tablets running Android 2.X/3.X. Anyone able to download the apk from somewhere else??? I would really like to have this keyboard for typing on my TF!!! Thanks
http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/14/swiftkey-x-virtual-keyboard-launches-for-android-tablets-we-go/
I'm guessing SwiftKey forgot to tick the Transformer if they restricted the devices, no other reason as far as I know.
Hope they resolve it soon.
I have it running on mine but I downloaded it from the beta program site. The last version is smooth as butter.
"Update on tablet compatibility: We've worked out why Android Market says Xoom, Tab10.1 is incompatible with SK Tablet X - we're fixing now."
Swiftkey wrote that on twitter a few minutes ago, so hopefully its just a market issue.
Sweet, i hope it's a simple fix!!!!

I couldnt find it through the app store via my TF but i went to android market on the PC and found it. I bought it and i was able to see it in my apps on the TF where i was able to install it.
Also worth noting, and it is on sale for $1.99 for to first 48 hours. I'm typing on it now and it seems better than thumb keyboard. Way more accurate

I still dont see it in the market place???
I use it on my Droid X and it feels great! But I'm using Thumb now on my TF and it's good... but I want to tray Swift to see if it's as good.
Also, does the TF support haptic feedback? Does it have the vibrating motor? I want it to vibrate when I type, it makes it so much easier!
Thanks!
I think the thing to bear in mind is that it brings up a spell check box when using the Transformer keyboard. That makes it unique and indispensable.

Buy it from there and install it onto your TF101 via the website.
And no, it doesn't have haptic feedback. The phone version does, this makes me wonder if its related to Honeycomb or hardware.
I prefer having it off anyways. It uses more battery when its enabled.
For everybody else, if you're going to buy this.. buy it now, it's returning to $4.99 after today.

Swype
It's not there, you can still swype on the standard keyboard. It's the placement of the button and symbols that's screwing me up. Swype is not an option. Could be a geographic thing. Samsung has omitted swype from certain countries for whatever reason. I'm in PA
I found out on the gs6 the keyboard version is 4.0 but I have a version 1.0.81 anyone know where I can get the update or apk?
I checked the play store and the galaxy store but nothing in there...
what is roidbay like for safe apks? are they reliable?
Swype
Swype appears to be in the play store now. A stand alone app that so far, appears to work like the one that was built in. There's a free one and a pay version for $0.99. I'd like to know what the difference is. Using the free one and it's working great. Won't let me pay a link yet but it's in the store
Have you tried the google keyboard? I find it's the best "swype" keyboard for me.
Haven't tried that one much, was kinda clunky when it first came out. I've been using Swype since the Galaxy s3 so I may stick with that. It already knows my words lol

exactly. although a year ago Swype Dragon worked a lot better and had more features. they actually removed a very useful feature in the updates. a feature that used to add a custom word automatically instead of your having to click to add it. also, the swiping recently became quite crappy, it doesn't predict words as good as before. if only Google keyboard had a much better swipe it would be the ultimate keyboard.
