[Q] Location of my backup files?please help

Hi to every one.. I just would like to ask the location of my backup files
im using ext4 recovery to back up my stock rom. every time i flash roms i usually clean the every cache and dalvic even ext 3 to 4. now after using different roms,downloading and stalling applications in my Ds. my sd card is currently populated and im planning to reformat it. Just a heads-up for me before doing that. I would like to ask if my backup file(stock rom) is located in my SDcard,since i dont want to take a risk of removing my backup.Hope any body can help me.

Backups will be stored in Sdcard/4ext/backup.. It's just simple like that.
If you were using cwm before, 4ext will save backups in clockworkmod/backup or something like that. I copy backups from Sd card to PC nearly every day but I simply don't know the exact folder names, sorry

I just ran 4ext but the backup directory is empty when I browse it over USB from my windows7 machine
what gives? I need to save the backup off the card before I repartition it

Can I move my nandroid backup files?

Hi everyone - THIS IS MY FIRST POST!!!
I've been flash'n and ROM'n for the past two weeks since I finally got the nerve to root my phone. I now have three nandroid backups of different ROMS with different setups and I want to make another. The backups of course take up space and I was hoping to move them to my laptop. I will of course keep one on my phone at all times. My question is whether or not moving them would cause any problems. Assuming at some point I want to use one of them I would just move it back to the CWM backup file I have on my external sd card and flash it in recovery. Am I wrong to think that moving the files to the laptop and then back to my phone, when needed, shouldn't cause any issues?

no every thing will be fine. Move the backup folder to your laptop and when ever you need to restore move the backup file to the sd card but keep in mind that you remember the date of back up roms

Thank you sir - Can I also change the name of the md5 file?
One more thing - is this image verification thing a hazing of sorts or will i continue to have to verify before each and every post?

its better not to change the name and after 10 posts the verfication will be removed and you will be able to post directly

Moving NANDROID Backup
There was just something put out about an app named AIRDROID, which should make the process of moving NANDROID backups so much easier. Check it out.

[Q] Internal storage FULL? (from roms, how do I fix?)

Hello, I have been installing a great deal of roms on my phone and every time I do I see less and less internal storage left. Now I am left with just around 1 GB. I would go in and delete everything on the phone from the computer but I think that would be a very bad idea, can you help me increase my storage?
(I do not have any pictures/videos/music on the phone and clockworks is installed on the internal storage with 2-3 backups)

You probably have the zip files of the ROMs themselves. Delete those off the phone and just store them on a computer unless you need them.

I have a few but that isnt the problem (~1.5gb)

The play store has a useful app called DiskUsage

which will give you a graphical representation of what's using space.

THank you very much, this app is great. It shows that CW has 7gbs on my phone. Can i SAFELY delete the blobs folder(and keep backups)?

No. The blobs folder holds all data for the backups. Delete backups not needed and blobs folder should decrease at the same time. Blobs was to save space. A normal backup is 2-2.5 GB. Most backup to external sd card to avoid this problem.

^ what he said, just use CWM Recovery to do the deleting of the backups(or ROM manager if that's what you're using) That way corresponding blobs get deleted too.

One question I have about deleting the backups is once I delete the backups I had on my phone, before I formatted my SD to FAT32, the blobs folder never disappears even though I have deleted all of my backups off on my phones internal storage. Is that normal? The blobs folder also stayed the same size even after the backups had been deleted.

Did you delete them thru recovery or a file manager? If thru a file manager then that's why.

Glad you got that one. I haven't used CWM/Rom Manager since the Tbolt. TWRP rocks. :laugh:

I may have deleted a few backups through a file manager when I first started flashing the many ROMs I have gone through.is there a way to tell if there are still blobs saved that I don't need. My last few deletes have been through CWM would that of got rid of the unnecessary blobs. Also how do I get the backups to save to ext.SD and not the internal SD.

Not 100% sure if the recent deletes thru cwm would've made all the necessary deletes of the unused blobs.
In CWM there's an option to save backups to the extsd.... you have to do it manually thru recovery. I believe all apps like ROM manager and Goo only let you select the internal.

^ happened to me - was Picasa sync grabbing my 50GB of photos even though as you said "I do not have any pictures on the phone..."

I've been having the same problem. I started deleting old backups using a file manager first, then found this post and deleted the rest of my backups directly from CWM.
I found that the "Free unused backup data" option under the backup and restore menu helped get rid of the blob files that were left over from the first deletes i made using a file manager. (freed up around 6gb of space total)

When ever I change roms it deletes all backups, and even deletes clockwork mod recovery. I have no idea what is going on. This didn't happen on my gnex. I have a 2 gig memory card in it. How can I put all backups and recovery on the card? It deletes the rom folder I create to put all the roms in. I have to create the folder every time I change roms. This is anoying as hell. Please help. Thanks

I think your doing something wrong because it shouldn't do that, what ROM hase it done that in? And what at our steps to flashing? As to backups on your sd car when you go to backup there an option to back up to external so card.

I was running jellywiz, and I flashed the executioner. I had to reinstall cwm. And I had to create the roms folder again, the folder where I keep my downloaded roms. As for flashing roms, I do a factory reset, wipe davlik, and cache. It's kind of annoying having to recreate everything. Thanks

Did you flash a 4.2 ROM??? It does that if you don't use an updated recovery.

You are definitely doing something wrong because that is not expected behavior.
A 2GB SD card is ridiculously undersized for backups. A single nandroid or TiBu would likely take all of that space if it even fit. Perhaps it's failing to backup to the external card and defaulting back to internal memory?

I would recommend at least a 16G sdcard. You need that much to stores backups, stock boot rom, custom rom, and you data files to restore. Things like contacts, calendar, etc should always be backed up before you install custom ROM.
CWM is a good boot loader to use as it provides many options and also use something like Titanium backup as your backup manager.

If you do a data reset from the updated recovery will it delete the directory on the internal SDCard where the backup of the stock ROM is?

What recovery are you talking about? If it's cwm touch no it doesn't! I factory reset every time I flash a new ROM (and I'll flash a couple a day sometimes) the only way you'll delete those in recovery is if you manually delete a backup or if you go under the mounts and storage menu and format internal SD card.

So I am talking about the clockworkmod stock rom backup. When I backup it puts the backup in the following location which I will call LocA:
/mnt/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/
This is not my SD card tho. My external SDCard is located at which I will call LocB:
/mnt/extSdCard/
But I also have which I will call LocC:
/sdcard/
I when I go to look at the ‘Phone’ while connected to USB I can see LocA and see the backups, when I use the app SDCard Manager I can go to LocC and I can see that they mirror each other. Why is my stuff duplicated? It is wasting space?
Also when I boot into CWM recovery the menu that says load from SD card actually points to LocA. My fear is that since LocA is really internal memory that a factory reset will delete this and since CWM recovery cant see LocB that I will be locked out. In other words cant load the backup of the mod or the new downloaded CM10.

Okay gotcha, a factory reset does not delete your internal memory. What it deletes is your user apps, settings, etc. That is the same place mine is backed up to and like I said I factory reset every flash. However, if you're really worried about under the backup option in cwm select backup to external SD card.
As for the sd card 0 and SD card. I don't believe there are really two files of everything. I believe it's more just naming for the android system, but maybe someone else can confirm this for me

With that info im confident i wont get stuck in some limbo. During my lunch break ill try to flash CM10 again this time with a factory reset and see if i get further than the spinning logo.

I don't do the cwm touch. For some reason I can't find any roms that I've backed up, So I use the typical cwm. I don't know, maybe it's just me, I'm screwing up somewhere. But everytime I have to reinstall cwm. Thanks for the help

I am FAR from being an expert, but i had to reflash cwm everytime i restarted the phone until i flashed it and from the menu selected prevent stock recovery.

[Q] SD Card folder deletes itself

All I did was plug it into my pc, copy a music album into the music folder, unplug it, and the whole sd card folder vanishes. I tried going into the TWRP recovery and then trying to look for the files using the file manager but no, everything is gone. My phone settings are alright though.
Now I'm a beginner to Android, does the TWRP folder that was located in the sd card folder contain important files? That folder is gone too. Basically I want to know, apart from the media and photos lost, are there any important files there that is essential to my rooted phone now or when I need to unroot/flash custom ROM/etc?

Interesting....... The TWRP folder most likely doesn't contain anything important otherwise you wouldn't be able to get into your custom recovery. The only thing that the TWRP folder contains is if you check "show hidden files" you will see a .twrps file. If you need to unroot and flash the stock firmware it will not be necessary. I would reflash the latest TWRP onto the phone just to be sure, you just never know about technology.

No this only replaces the recovery. The only way you can wipe your entire sd card is by going into TWRP---> advanced wipe and selecting internal storage or by going to "format data" and typing yes. This erases everything.
I find it strangely odd that just copying music from the phone to the computer took everything off the SD card I have never heard of this before. Don't be offended when I say this but you didn't select cut instead of copy did you? It will be ok though.
Good luck. While you might consider yourself a beginner, you have gotten this far so I wouldn't consider you that, far above what most owners of their phones are. If it turns on they are happy but we here at XDA don't think that is good enough.

Thanks. Actually I copied an album INTO the phone storage. I did not cut or delete anything from the phone. Guess it's one of the mysteries of the universe why it happened.
