Gametab One Review - Android General

Hi there,
since there is no subforum for general Gamingtablets I post my review here because nobody talked about the device on this forum. Furthermore since there are much more Gaming devices than the OUYA, the Nvidia Shield and the Mad Catz Mojo, I think a subforum for general Android gaming plattforms would be good.

The device is called Gametab One. Like the wikipad it is a tablet with a custom made controller.
On my blog I wrote a review (link) and on Youtube I did a video with the emulating performance (link).
Because my review is in German I also post a statement I wrote in english on an other board.
Price
The advertised price is 200€, in spain it's even 250€ but I saw shops which offered it for 180€.
On Amazon France it costs 169€. This is the best price I saw for the device.
Specs
CPU: RK1388 Cortex-A9 up to 1,8GHz
GPU: Mali 400 Quad-Core 533Mhz
Ram: 2GB DDR3 Dual Channel
16 GB Hard drive
Micro SD/SDHC Port (up to 64GB)
bluetooth 4.0
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
HDMI Mini Port
USB Mini Port
Headphone JAck
4000mAh battery
2MP back camera
0.3 MP front camera
Build quality:
Since I heard so many bad things about alle these devices and despite being a product from a french company (BigBen) the device was also build in china I feared that the quality would be not that good. But I am quite impressed. The back of the tablet is metal and feels really heavy (but no too heavy). The controller shell without the controller does feel really light but combined I think it has the perfect weight for a handheld this size.
Alle the buttons, the d-pad and the analog stick feel perfect. I really prefer the classic d-pad, this was one of the main reasons not to choose a GPD G7. I already beat Super Metroid on the device and doing Walljumps is easier than with a SNES controller. I am a PS3 player and the PS3 controller has convex analog sitcks, but these of the Gametab One are concave which feels really great. The positions of the buttons are great too. The Select and Start buttons are build with a good quality too, but they click really loud when you press them (I sometimes play bevor sleeping and when I play an emulator which does not need L2 and R2 or L3 and R3 I map them on these buttons, so that my girlfriend won't get awake). L2 and R2 are buttons and no triggers.
The display is 1024*600 TFT. Therefore it does not have that great of a viewing angle and the resolution cannot compete to modern tablets. For gaming and webbrowsing it is enough though.
Ergonomics:
I really love the ergonomics. After playing with a Wii U gamepad I do not like to comeback to normal controllers like the PS3 controller, because I like the horizontal positioning when you hands are not more away from each other (therefore I prefere a GBA over a GBA SP). The ergonomics of the Gametab One are even better than on the Wii U Gamepad. I don't want to exaggerate but the Gametab One is the must comfortable handheld/controller I know.
Gaming performance:
As you could read in the "Setup Emulation"-thread I did take some time to setup all the emulators. But now they run just fine. All 8 and 16 bit emulators run just fine like on other devices. Scumm VM too. With N64oid Ocarina of time, Paper Mario and Super Mario 64 run great. On Mupen 64 Super Mario 64 and Mario Kart did run but Zelda and Paper Mario had glitching. PSX (ePSXe) runs really great. I already played some Resident Evil and nearly beat Tomba. With the PSP I played some The Legend of Zelda Return of the Hylian and tried Patapon, Prinny and Little Big Planet all play really good. Fifa 14 was playable but the commentary did stutter. I tried Resident Evil Code Veronica on Reicast, the cutscenes glitched but the rest was really good. On one playtrough the shooting animation always glitched but on my recording for the video it ran fine. I am not that big of a Mame player, but I tried Splatterhouse and it plays really good. Nintendo DS also runs fine.
I got GTA San Andreas for testing the performance, it run just fine. It made so much fun I nearly beat the complete story despite I have GTA V since 2 weeks and I did not play it for more than 10 hours. Even if a like GTA V more, I love playing on the handheld so much, that I prefered San Andreas over GTA V. I also tried Deus Ex: The Fall and Shadorun Returns, buth games run fine too. Deus Ex had one or two slowdowns. Besides all of that I only play leightweight android games like Plants vs. Zombies 2, Iddle Dew and Metal Slug, these games run of course perfectly.
Software/Firmware:
The Gametab runs on Android 4.2. The mapping software works perfectly. When I see videos of the GPD G7 and it's mapping software I think you can clearly see that these devices come from the same people. The Gametab comes with some preinstalled games, which don't are my taste of gaming. Oddly after deleting them they are still there on my app list when I look again for them.
Miscellaneous:
-Like on other devices the Gametab cannot be charged via USB.
-The sound outlet is of the back, because the controller can be removed.
-In my opionion it has the best design of all the Android handhelds
Conclusion:
I am really happy with the device. Like I said the D-pad alone is a reason against the GPD G7 despite I hear so many good things about it. I love playing with it so much, when I want to play GBA or NDS games I prefer the Gametab One over my GBA SP and my DS Lite despite I have flashcards for both. It is my first time that I can play SNES and PSX on the go without using touch controls with my phone and I already spent hours playing my favoring childhood games on the handheld.
I really love the fact that you can remove the controller. Since I am a student at university and I do not earn that much money I would not buy a tablet. But with this I can remove the controller and I have a normal tablet for browsing, watching videos and playing touch based games. This feature is not the main reason I prefer the device over others, but I think it is a huge advantage. If you buy controller solutions which work on several devices they often fit not perfectly therefore something like this would not be as good as this. This makes the Gametab One (and the Wikipad, but this again has a bad d-pad) a really good hybrid between a normal and a gaming tablet.
I really ask myself why the Gametab One does not get more popularity.
Why do you not interest for the device? Is it the price? Is it because it is hard to find a shop which is in english and delivers in your country?
If you have further questions just ask me. In the following days I will upload the video.
Pictures:
What I forgot to say:
It seems that BigBen thought this device would be a big succes therefore they put out high accessories like HDMI cable, screen Protectors or car adapters which cou can get for a much better price from other companies. But they also released a premium pack accessorie. It also has random crap like headphones, screen protector etc. but it also comes with a stand and a protection case. I really like that you can buy a protection case for the device, since most other devices do not offer one and therefore traveling with it can be dangerous.

okay buy
Now that I bought the dang thing, I wasn't paying attention and because of the old OS. Its one version behind having OPENGL ES3.0 to run a gamecube emulator. ANY help in that department, on who what how to remedy the situation? I'm terribly new at this.

Bought this tablet new for €100 at my local gameshop and am very glad I did.
All my emulators runs smoothly and the removable controller is really awesome.
Does anybody know how to root this thing?
I googled around and couldn't find much and the things I found I don't really trust.
I want root so I can use SCR Screen Recorder Pro root app to make vids from my games.

[Q] Which Tablet do i get for $200 or less?

Soo Black friday coming up and it looks like there are going to be several deals on tablets out there.
Anyone have any suggestions on which one to get?
I'm hoping to use it for browsing around the house, watching movies on vacation, and various other uses(hoping there's a vnc client out there so i can use it to vnc into my HTPC.), also hoping for something w/marketplace access
I don't need one w/ celluar i have enough devices i can get internet from when i'm out and about.
Here's what i've seen so far
Kmart - Sylvania 7.1" comes w/2.1 Wi-Fi - $139.99
Toys R US - Sylcania 7.1" comes w/2.1 Wi-FI - $139.99
Hastings - Sylvania 7" WiFi Tablet w/ Android O/S 1GHz ARM 11 Processor 256MB RAM 2GB Hard Drive - $149.99
They all look to be the same tablet although each add words the device differently. Best buy has a couple of E-reader devices listed however i'm not sure if any of those could be rooted and flashed.(nook, cruz e-reader)
I've never rooted an android phone but am technically capable of doing so.
If this question has been asked and answered then please forgive my failure of using a search engine in an attempt to find an answer. Any and all helpful input is greatly appreciated.
it's 200, but euros:

me too
I've been looking at those too. I think they are all the same model. The Sylavania 7" has a 1ghz processor, 256/512 memory, TFT Resistive screen, 480x800
I've been doing a lot of research and it seems like a winner for a cheap tablet. It lacks Android Market but you can manually install APK's (these are the install files) from the SD Card. Plus there are alternative markets.
The only bad thing I see is the Resistive screen. I guess it isn't a kill joy but lots of android games use multitouch.
I'm actually wanting to buy it for my 4 year old son. He's showing a huge interest in my Nexus One and loves games like Angry Birds and stupid Basketball games and such. I figured it would serve as a decent web browser from the couch.
Supposedly the USB ports don't work out of the box, and the headphone jack is only mono. There are reports that an upcoming software update is supposed to fix them.
I'm new to the tablets, but supposedly the Sylvania is faster and more responsive then other 800mhz android tablets. So I am in the same boat. The Sylvania is around $119-139 which seems to fit the bill for my 4 year old. Anything else that compares that is rootable and upgradable from a rom standpoint.
All of these are resistive touch screen. I wouldn't pay $5.00 for a resistive touch screen on any device. So they have decent CPUs and ram, they run flash and can/will run Froyo? If they have a resistive touch screen, it's pretty much pointless. It's like using a ball mouse with my gaming PC, it just doesn't make sense to me. Just my opinion, nothing more or less.
Side note, for about $75-$100 more you could get a nice capactive touch screen tablet with even more features. Archos 70, herotab and a few others.
wth my post is gone.
Take 2:
Basically if I was buying one for myself, yea sure I would get a Capacitive touch. Lots of Android features requires it. But I'm more intested in the price point of $139. I'm looking for an Android tablet that will run games like Angry Birds and stupid basketball games for my 4 year old.
When he's not using it I might use it for couch surfing or something... but basically it is a toy for my child.
I'm not sure what the OP's primary uses are, but I'm looking for a cheap Android Tablet that has at least 2.1 on it and decent memory specs. I've been doing a lot of research tonight and I think the Sylvania is a winner. Lots of people are saying the run faster then most of the low dollar tablets out there.
One major flaw is the battery life is 3 hours. For me it isn't a problem as no one in my house should be on it for 3 hours. I just want to be able to throw a few silly games on it to keep my kid entertained and off my Nexus One.
[EDIT]
I just saw a post for the Maylong M-150 Tablet and it looks promising

For the kids, yeah it's a great price and product. I would much rather my kid have a tablet in his/her hands than a game controller. At least there is more of a chance they might actually learn something.
I ended up getting the sylvania and i am loving it. I have market working and Over on xda someone noticed a process called cell stand by was running and eating up the battery. Once i followed their lead and unistalled some apps they said to i am getting much better battery life on my sylvania. I am going on 3 hours of mixed use/standy and till have 61% battery remaining.

I ended up getting the HeroTab X5A from Merimobiles.com for $149.
800mhz
7" Resistive Touch w/ Multitouch
G-Sensor
Capacitive touch controls on the side
Glass top, metal surround
Android 2.1 w/ Market
Looks like it runs great.
http://www.merimobiles.com/Herotab_X5A_Multitouch_Gsensor_800Mhz_Android_2_1_p/meri0524.htm
Yea I've been playing with it. I loaded up Angry Birds and a few games he likes to test before putting it back in the box.
Yes it does have multitouch. I loaded Launcher Pro and lots of little apps. Runs great. The only issue is the only Widget available is Google Search. Supposedly the latest Firmware update fixes it but I had already wrapped it up for Christmas.

[Q] Bluetooth Gamepad MSI BGP100 VS Datel retro wireless?

I see both of these are supported by android, though I've seen some saying the Wii-mote isnt working on G2X yet.
Just wondering which would be the better buy
MSI is cheaper @ $25 and can fold up for easier travel, though it doesn't look like it will hold the phone in landscape mode. not a big deal as neither does the datal, and with HDMI out Id likely connect it to someones/my TV and use it

the datel is more expensive @ $35
more like a standard controller and has joysticks, which Ive read are a little better than the directional pad that can have some dead spots.
the nice thing is you don't need the wii nunchuck as bluetooth is built in.
even though its more than $10 more without shipping I am leaning towards the datel
http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Retro-Wireless-Controller-Nintendo/dp/B001ULJGDU
IMHO, I'd go for the Retro Datel wireless remote. With Analogs you have long term use for the controller, especially for fighting games, etc. Having only D-pad controls would defeat the purpose of the controller since D-pad controls are much easier to do on touch screen than analog controls are (sub directional inputs, UP + Left, etc).
I'll probably pick up a Retro Wii mote.
Thats what I am going with, after looking around it seems amazon is the best bet. Ioffer is cheaper but there are alot of hoops, seems fishy and Google doesn't show great reviews.
Honestly, I prefer the official Classic Controller Pro because the it's more comfortable to grip and it has the perfect layout for PSX games. But if I had to pick one of those, I would get the Datel one.

Ive had both the classic controller works better. They both run on regular batteries. Some sites have rechargeable batteries for the classic. Sort of hard to find. I had a white one.

I have the Datel Retro and I love it. In my Emulator, I have 2 key mappings setup. One for Dpad and one for the thumbpad. Some games work better with the others.
Zelda games played best on the thumbpad, for example.
I found that the Datel will eat batteries even if not being used. Also the sync button is recessed and requires something to jab at it (which sucks cause it looses its "mamma" every power cycle).
Just pop the batteries out when your done.
stupid question...do you know any emulators that allow 2 player gaming with these Bluetooth controllers?
I would go for the datel...
As a matter of fact, I did. Should be coming in the mail soon.
I also have the classic controller pro (works flawlessly) and I heard that this is one of the few 3rd party devices supported by the android wiimote software.
Now all that's left is to Frankenstein a mount for the phone onto this to make it one unit... so I don't have to look like a tool on the subway with my phone on my lap... or worse get it stolen.
It shouldn't be to hard actually, maybe I can replicate the spring-loaded design of the never-put-into-production bluetooth gamegripper... hmm...
Im still waiting for the Datel to show up as well. I think the Micro HDMI should be here today.
Mine wont need a mount as it will be played inside on a TV.
even though its pricey I would like something like this for travel

Yea. $75... ouch.
I think I paid $30 for the Datel and it works great. Even the gamepad alone is $55. Might not be so bad if maybe quality was great but it just looks like it is cheaply made. Alot of those joysticks have bad controls. The Datel isn't perfect but I'm amazed how well it works.
Just today I finally got my SNESoid running with WiiMote over HDMI on my 24" monitor. Sweet!
Gonna have to setup a Power adapter and MicroHDMI plug on my 55" TV so I can make this a permanent solution. I've been craving Super Mario World. It's the one game I don't have on my Wii.

I would also like to know this.
Dur, should have guessed. not only was i sure of the answer i see it in his sig
I am curious what build it is and how stable it is.. Im torn between this, the bionix pre beta or eaglesblood 1.0.4 if its out.
how easy is it to swap between multiple NAND backups when testing roms?
I tested CM7 with a friends Wii controller hooked up to a 55" HDTV, quite impressive! Looking to buy a gamepad with more buttons, think I'll try the Datel.
link for datel?
can someone post a link? i cant find this controller online
Weird... I know I added it to the first post and its gone. oh well Ill edit it.
http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Retro-Wireless-Controller-Nintendo/dp/B001ULJGDU
BTW you might want to pay for express shipping. I couldnt find it in the USA and its taking forever to ship.. only amazon and codejunkies has it. BTW again do NOT buy it from Ioffer.com they emailed me telling me the seller was scamming people
Amazon says it's unavailable for me, I was going to buy from codejunkie unless I find a used Wii controller + classic cheaper.
Out of stock. I'm sure a few more will show up. as far as the official Wii stuff, i don't know if you can have the combo cheaper but for me it wasn't worth having to deal with a nunchuck just to make the gamepad work
i saw the one for codejunkies site does that work with android tho? or is that only the datel?

How to Choose an Android Tablet PC Based on Your Needs?

Choosing a suitable Android tablet pc is a huge project. In our last post you’ve learnt how to judge the performance of a tablet from different aspects. But how to choose a tablet that is most suitable to you? There are still several things to take into consideration, for example, budget, purpose, taste and so on. This post will guide you through the process to see which one is your top concern.
Price
It’s universal practice to think about your budget before purchasing anything (except for super rich guys). How much does your budget range from? If it is over $500, go for an iPad2 immediately. But if your budget is limited, like below $100, you still have many choices. Take the Gpad M009B as an example.

I guess ur day dreaming, aha, i'm just kidding. But windows 8 tablet is not born yet.
Android can support very well for ARM Processor, windows 8 can also support many processors, including ATOM, but it cannot be judged how the windows 8 support the ARM in the future.
seriously, Android Tablet has failed to convince anyone, even Win7 tablet are popular than Android tablet and Win7 isn't even designed for touch applications, what hope will Android have when Win8 Tablets start to hit the market, not to mention ipads.
Whaaat? Is there somekind of new mp5 player? You were talkin about mp4 and mp5 (gun?!)
Here is a guide:
Non-techie: Samsung Galaxy Tab (Any variant except for the original one)
Techie: Nook Color or Amazon Kindle Fire (Ice Cream ROMs imminent)
Also in need for a laptop: Asus Transformer (or Transformer Prime if you can wait for it)
Galaxy tab is my choice very good surfing and speed processor and battery.
I have an Transformer and it is amazing. Blazingly fast to surf the internet ( 1900 MS on sunspider, that is nearly half of the iPhone 4 speed), has a gorgeous screen and looks good. And now you can find it for as much as 300 bucks, so it is totally worthy your cash.

hello
i am thinking in buy nvidia shield, but im afraid do you think they will sell nvidia 2 on this year? i dont want to buy nvidia 1 if nvidia 2 come out in next months
I'm in the same boat. Nvidia hasn't announced anything yet, but they are definitely working on it and it's going to pack the k1, which could be very interesting.
If you don't already have one, I'd wait to see more details on the k1 model. I mean the Nvidia Shield 1 isn't getting any more expensive....so worst case scenario you can just buy the Nvidia Shiel 1 cheaper.
Ya, i gonna wait for nvidia shield 2 or get a cheap shield 1

I picked mine up on Swappa for a very reasonable price, might check there. Personally I use mine quite a lot and will probably upgrade if it has a enough of a benefit over the current gen.
there some far more interesting android devices cheaper than the shield if its for streaming games. now that we have limelight and splashtop running smooth:

Much i5 has dual sim great controls and an ips screen, im planning on buying the i5s version

But even shield 1 with tegra 4 is already too much for android games...
If shield 2 will have 1080p it will be a big flop, because 1080p won't give anything to 5 inch screen, but drain the battery.
Shield 2 will be interesting only if:
720p
Better battery
250$
Less heavy
Maybe 5.5 inch screen

Or if they make the shield be their first handset, where the screen detaches as a phone. Mind blown.
It has been my personal experience with technology that it really does not matter if you have the fastest gadget. I always wait six months to a year to buy new tech because the price is always cut in half
the current Nvidia Shield can run EVERYTHING on android at FULL SPEED as far as I know.

I just want a better dpad. Something that uses a real cross pattern instead of a circle.

I really like the hat-top Dpad that's on the Shield. I just dislike that it slides around.
It's miles better than some designs that just glue silicon feet to the Dpad and just stick it in there. ( I'm looking at you iControlpad )
I found a picture of what that looks like. Terrible design.:
But really, if it just had that fancy Dpad from the new xbox 360 controllers, (not sure if the Xbone does it) the one that you can twist up for a Plus pad, or twist down for a Hat top. I would not only enjoy using it because it's an extremely sturdy design, but it also fits the needs of any accustomed gamer, like yourself who prefers the Cross/Plus pad.

They could actually make room for an ethernet port or even a secondary microusb port. (so that you dont have to fiddle (or even have to find)) an usb otg Y cable..
If not, they should really include those cables in the box (ethernet-usb, micro hdmi converter, usb otg y cable, ..)
I also agree with the DPad being a little less good
and I could also live with a slightly larger screen
For the rest, this thing is perfect!
also.. the analog sticks can make quite some noise when they hit the plastic.. which can hinder my girlfriend's sleep at night sometimes ^^ (i dont think the xbox or ps3 controller have the same "loudness" on that aspect..) but this is offcourse just a minor issue
For me I would like a thinner design and a possibly better quality screen. Though I would definitely not want any of those at the cost of it's amazing standby/battery life.
Would love to eventually be able to dual boot android and a window os
16 gigs of internal memory seems really slim. I don't know why 32 or even 64 couldn't have been chosen instead. I can't imagine the price being raised that much in return. Vibration would have been great too.
I mainly use the shield for emulation though. So I just wish there was a better N64 Android emulator than mupen. I don't think its a lack of shield capability though. Just not enough advancement in the android development community.
Check your local craigslists. The $200 retail price drop has encouraged alot of people in my area to list their Shields at $110-$140, and at that price I think it'd be a great deal even if a Shield 2 came out soon. The Shield has high enough build quality where I wouldn't feel sheepish buying one secondhand from a responsible owner.
I love the Shield but it needs a larger screen. The bezel is gigantic by modern standards and while I love virtually every other aspect of the Shield I still feel my shoulders sink a little when I flip it up to see that tiny 5 inch screen and a big ol' bezel.
What I wish Nvidia would release is a proper 7 or 8 inch gaming tablet up to the same standards as the Shield, not another controller with a flip up screen... But that's just me. I imagine there's room enough in the market for Nvidia to offer both devices though, a gaming tablet and a controller-with-a-screen format like the Shield... Maybe even a Xperia Play successor gaming phone.

I already have a 10" tablet but I really prefer the flip up screen on the Shield.
That said 5" is too small to enjoy PC games. For emulators its fine.
Shield 2 needs to have at least a 6" screen if I am going to consider purchasing it. 6.5" would be better. Making this fit on a controller will be an impressive design feat, but I feel its necessary to enjoy modern (non mobile) games.
There isn't plans for a shield 2.

Sources? I'd bet they are going to follow up with another device. No reason not to.

Cube U35GT2 Review
When I found myself looking for a compact tablet I found a number of potential puchases in the 7 inch category before I ran across the 7.85” Cube U35GT2. I looked at the specs and couldn't believe the price. This tablet was an obvious iPad mini clone but had very similar hardware to my Pipo M9, which I still think is a great tablet. For $150 the Cube U35GT2 seemed like a real bargain. So does it's real world performance live up to it's appearance on paper. Let's have a look.
Spec overview
7.85 1024 x 768 IPS screen
Rockchip RK3188 processor with Mali 400MP4 GPU
2GB RAM
16GB storage with expansion slot
4000 mAh battery
Display
The U35GT2 has a 7.85 inch 1024 x 768 IPS display. The screen is actually quite good all things considered. Viewing angles are descent and it's fairly responsive. Anything more for resolution and I think it would have been too much of a draw on the battery and the GPU would start to struggle.
Software
The tablet comes with Android 4.1 and has been left pretty much as a stock experience. The included launcher isn't too bad and I actually used it instead of replacing it with something from the play store, which is rare for me. It does show a bit of sticking and lag but it's not enough to really complain about. The only issue I found with the ROM is occassionally everything would shift over to the left of the screen. It would sort itself out through normal use, but the bottom line is, it's not suppose to do that.
WiFi
Every device has it's Achilles heal and the WiFi is the Cube U35GT2 's weak spot. The WiFi doesn't suffer from dropouts but is fairly weak.
I tested the 2.4 Ghz WiFi by taking a reading right by the router. I took a second at the furthest point on the upstairs level, and a 3rd at the furthest point in the basement.
- 21 mbps at the router
-2 mbps upstairs level
- 2 mbps basement level
Speaker
The loudspeaker was ok but fairly quiet and thin sounding. It didn't sound bad, it just wasn't very full sounding. If the tablet is in close proximity, I would say it would be loud enough for any application. If you introduce distance, or a lot of background noise you could start to have issues.
Video Playback
I tested the tablets video capabilities using VLC player with a variety of movies, and by using HD YouTube clips, all of which worked flawlessly. The Mali 400MP4 handled itself very well but anything more than 720p would likely create problems.
Web browsing
I used both Maxthon and Dolphin browser to test the web browsing. There were no surprises here as the RK3188 worked just as well here as it does in my 10.1” Pipo M9. The only issues I encountered were once again related to weak WiFi, in the form of slow load times.
Cameras
Cameras in mid to low range tablets are usually a pretty sad affair, and the Cube U35GT2 is no exception. While they weren't as bad as I thought they would be, I wouldn't rely on these cameras to take pics that I would want to keep or show off.
Benchmarks
For tech that is about a year old the scores are still very acceptable. They are no longer anywhere near the upper echelon, but the soon to be released Rochchip RK3288 will see that rectified.
Antutu=19,325
Nenamark 2=63 fps
CPU Prime=2252
Vellamo
HTML 5=1524
Metal=519
Battery
The battery in the Cube U35GT2 does ok, but can easily be run down with heavy use.
I tested the battery by playing movies on it until the battery was under 10%. The on screen time was about 5.5 hours .
Gaming
Less intensive, basic video games like Flappy Bird, Subway Surfers, etc... run with no problems at all. Dead Trigger 2 and Asphalt 8 defaulted to mid range settings due to the Mali 400. At those settings the games ran fine with minimum lag in responsivness. The Mali 400 is certainly not a high end GPU and is much better suited for simple games. I'm glad to see Mediatek and Rockchip putting more of an emphasis on their GPU's in their upcoming products.
Conclusion
This iPad mini wannabe will surprise a lot of people, especially when you take into consideration that it only costs $150. Rockchip are not well known in North America, but after using their processors I can honestly say that I would feel cheated paying twice as much for big name tablets. The Cube U35GT2 has a nice thin feel to it, and is confortable to hold onto even for long periods of time. The software is solid even though it is dated. If you feel you need to update it, there are a few 4.2.2 ROM's available as it has some recognition and support.
Performance as a whole is very good as long as you don't stray too far away from your router.
I've never minded saving some money and still getting a product that works the way I need it to.
Thanks Cube.
