[Q] What is your Vibration like? - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Coming from a Nexus 5, which I don't think has a great reputation from its vibration motor, the OPO just seems to be on a completely different level!
It sounds very loud and chirpy, almost loose and to make things worse, it feels awful! When I am typing, it doesn't feel solid like my Nexus 5 is just feels like a very weak rattle, I have read others complaining about this issue too, but I'm not sure if theirs is as 'bad' as mine is. I may be exaggerating a little, but I just wanted to know if mine was 'normal' and if there is anything I can do to improve it?
I am uploading a video if it at the moment, which I will probably post tomorrow morning, as my upload speed isn't great.
What does the vibration feel like on your OPO?
Edit- Here are the videos of the vibration sounds on both of my devices

That's weird, what build are you on? I'm on the 25R build and the vibration is quite subtle and refined.

I am on 25R too. I have uploaded a video of my Nexus 5 and my OnePlus One to YouTube, could you have a watch and tell me if it's supposed to be like that?

[Q] Loud Vibration

So I moved from a Nexus 4 to Nexus 5! I must say that I love this phone already. However, I have noticed that the vibration feedback from typing is so incredibly loud, especially compared to my Nexus 4. I feel like when I'm typing that everyone around me can hear each key-press. Now I know I can turn it off, but I really like the feedback when typing. But man is it loud. Seems I'm gonna have to resort to a custom rom to turn down the vibration level eventually.
Anyone else notice this?
Yeah mine is the same UK White 16GB.
A friend has recently got a UK Black 32GB (I think), and his is perfectly fine, vibration is quiet as you would expect.
I am probably going to return mine to CPW and get a new one, but I will check that one over before leaving the store. I think the current know defects are the vibration motor, screen backlight bleed, dead pixels and loose power button. My N5 only has the vibration issue, everything else is perfect.
For now I have gone in to advanced settings on the Google Keyboard and changed the Vibration Duration to 5ms. This gives enough feedback but makes the volume less audible unless you are typing very fast.
U can turn it down

had the same problem whit n4.. it is a branch thing..it irritated me i sold it after 5 days. bought a new one and it didn't had that problem
turning it down doesn't help, because it is noisy on very low levels

Ah, so it means mine is defective? Is this something Google would take and RMA for? That's a shame.. Everything else is great on mine
I actually have the opposite problem. The vibration on my N5 is almost _too_ weak. I'll have to test to see if I'd even notice it when it's in my pocket and I get a call (yes, I know, there are many jokes possible right there). The vibration on my N4 is actually harsh like described in the OP.
Checkout the Nexus 5 Defects thread in the General section. Other people, including me, have the exact same issue with the vibration. Trying to RMA it now . . .
Just exchanged my white Nexus 5 for a black as I much prefer the soft touch coating. The new unit has a quieter vibrate motor It still has the similar sound if you listen close but it's nowhere near as loud as the white one I had

[Q] 4.4.1 Louder sound?

I just finally did the update to 4.4.1 and is it just me or does the volume for everything seem a bit louder?
Ya I just updated five minutes ago and I noticed the volume being much louder too, especially on the locking and unlocking sounds. That's a good thing though since so many people were complaining about the volume not being loud enough?
Still playing around with 4.4.1 but so far so good

Hi, do you know whether the headphone volume is also louder? Thanks.
And i thought i was the only one going crazy ahah
Yup definitely sounds louder now. Especially on unlocking screen and screen shutting off. Havent received any notifications to know if that is any different.
The audio is just more compressed, I did some tests in a previous post that showed that.
It averages louder, but isn't any more loud than before at max loudness.

Yes, it is louder. And it is not a placebo effect. I have two identical n5s, one on 4.4.1 and the other still on 4.4.
Definitively louder!
Plus an overall speed boost, went from antutu 28-29k to 30k on complete stock.

I actually do not, i haven't been to the gym recently to use my headphones yet. But if you find out, please share it
Headphones volume seems a bit louder too.
Any other significant changes?

Aside from the camera and louder audio, i haven't noticed anything different
Camera is much better than before, though it didn't really bother me to begin with, but comparing the previous lagginess of the camera motion with my iPhone 5, it looks as though the 4.4.1 update made the camera motion smoother than on my iPhone 5. Video mode seems a bit equal, although I think the nexus is slightly smoother than the iPhone.
I really can't tell a difference in speaker. I need to test tomorrow in a more audible environment (its late and quiet here) it does seem a little louder, but I'm not sure yet. Some sounds seem louder, while others are just as quiet as before. Still pales in comparison to iPhone 5 speaker.
Haven't ran any benchmarks, but performance does seem slightly better as well. Ran a test lap on real racing 3 where I noticed obvious frame rate issues when I first got my nexus, but now it seems a bit smoother, much less noticeable lag.

Call volume with earbuds has gone from too loud on the lowest setting up to deafening. Not good.
I checked cpu spy, seems like it's boosting to 1.2ghz instead of 1ghz now.. Anyone confirm?

Stronger haptic too.
If I had to assume, I'd agree with you on the haptic feedback being stronger, bloot. But if it actually is stronger, its a very small difference. The motor doesn't feel any different than before, and I doubt a firmware update could make it stronger. But again, it does feel a little stronger.
As for the sound, tested it today and yes there's definite improvement over before. Still barely audible in some cases, but I'm comparing with my old iPhone 5, and honestly, the situations I'm comparing to are better suited for an actual speaker anyway, not some tinny phone speaker. So for most typical case usage, the speaker is pretty good now. Keep in mind the speaker isn't being touted as one of the phones features, much like a phone with stereo speakers, or higher quality ones. So with that in mind, the speaker on the nexus 5 is actually pretty good when you consider the price of the phone.

Also, Koush posted on G+ recently that the code for mirroring to a chromecast was also added to 4.4.1, so maybe we will be able to mirror to our TVs.

confirmed. it boosts there for ~3 seconds. too long, imo.
i don't think anything actually happened to the sound, hardware-wise. it seems like all they did was normalize the UI sounds to a higher level. my custom ringtones/notifications are still as quiet as ever
quite absurd that the notification led for missed calls still doesn't work

Is this vibration sound normal?

Hello,
just bought myself a new Nexus 5.
I've had one Nexus 5 before when it came out but it's battery was just too weak back then compared to my iPhone 5's.
But back to the topic.
When I first booted my new Nexus up I noticed the funny whistle-like high pitched vibration right away when I typed with the keyboard. My iPhone doesn't sound like that and I don't remember if my first Nexus 5 sounded like that. If it did then I would probably remember that.
Anyways I'll post the link to the recorded sound and you tell me what you think.
Is it normal or a bad vibration motor? The phone is less than a week old.
Thanks!

Can't feel phone vibration?

When in vibrate mode, I can't feel any notification !
The phone does vibrate but the vibration is so slight I can't barely even hear it when the phone is close to me on the table.
When the phone is in my pants pocket or on a soft surface, I cant feel a thing at all.
Has anyone experienced this yet?
Thanks.
I can say what your describing is the exact issue I had with my OnePlus 5 and installed EX Kennel to bump the vibration strength but want by much unfortunately.
I have my OnePlus 6 in the OnePlus sandstone case and it cause the vibration much easier to hear sure to a slight restore but not annoying at all. I agree though in my pocket I barely hear it and certainly can't feel it.
Do you mean, it's normal and inherent to OnePlus to have very faint unfeelable vibration?
yeah the vibration on this phone is pretty crappy. They defiantly used cheap parts. One of my cons of this device.

You can adjust vibration intensity for calls and notifications in the sounds menu
Actually it's not cheap parts, it's small parts. The vibrator seems to be very small (see iFixit) probably to make room for other things (which I approve )
That was the first thing I tried.
Before posting this thread.
Yep I'm in the same boat. The awful weak vibration on this phone really sucks. I hope it can be at least slightly improved in software...
unfortunately history shows it's not possible to mend it. Since OPO they couldn't manage a proper motor on any OP phones as I read. The saga continues. (I had OPO, this was my biggest issue at the time, now same with OP6)
so does everyone just keep the ringtones on?
It's a real shame - you don't notice how important it is until it's gone... I'm still holding out hope for a way to change the pattern - if it went a bit longer for notifications I might notice it but the two weak little buzzes aren't doing much. Any ideas?
i sit on my bed the phone stays besides me...maybe only 3 inch away from me.. notice only 3 inch and still I can't feel it or hear it.. it's not possible to always keep the phone in ring mode.. tried ex kernel to increase..it slightly improved but not that much to be felt... it's a shame..and i think I'll have to change this phone for only this reason..this is a pretty great phone but this little thing makes a world of a difference for me
---------- Post added at 12:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:00 PM ----------
it's not quite possible...i had a 5t with same problem.. tried blu spark kernel and it improved to feel at least but with this op6 it's not possible because i tried ex kernel and same sh*t vibration
I've been consistently missing texts due to this. Is there a kernel fix anyone has? I'm thinking of installing one. CleanSlate looks good, but I don't think it does vibration intensity. Darn shame.
Looks like that's what it is.
Maybe we can ask Oneplus support to consider it for some next update?
I had the same issue with my OP5T. Could only feel light vibration and nothing when in pocket. Now the situation is even worse. My phone doesn't vibrate at all in Vibrate mode and I don't find any options to customize it.
Yeah, it sucks. Even coming from an old phone like the 6s Plus, the motor was a huge downgrade.
I was surprised to see that there isn't an option for making your own vibration patterns like iOS does.
Strange because it's usually iOS that abstains cool features.
Maybe some dev can build a magsik module that checks the proximity sensor and if triggered (like the pocket mode), it vibrates way longer, like 70ms.

Android 12...bugs so far?

I noticed the OXYGEN UPDATER APP now has Android 12 available to install but it hasn't quite made it to the official update in the settings. Just wondering if anyone has tried this update and whether you experienced or heard of any bugs?
I have no reason to think there is but Ive literally heard nothing good, bad or neutral. It's like no one owns this phone anymore. An update like this used to be noteworthy. That said, if anyone reads this and you have info, please share. Thanks
I have updated my device today and one thing I have noticed the most is that volume levels after the update are much lower than they were. I cannot use normally my earphones indoors and cannot image how bad it will perform outdoors.
Would be grateful if someone knows how to fix such problem.

I appreciate the feedback. I still haven't updated, but lately I've had volume issues. Both pairs of ear buds are noticeably lower than they were in the past. On one pair the right ear bud is barely usable, especially in a somehat noisy setting, but it's gotta be an issue with the ear bud.
In general, I need to crank them all the way up in the gym.

I have fixed the issue with low sound levels when using earphones, but, unfortunately, I cannot describe clearly how 'cause it was a bit incomprehensible. I just connected one more time my earphones to smartphone, opened some video on YouTube, then pop-out of some option about volume came out. Then I tapped on it and there was an option that has strange description (maybe it is because of localization) that I switched on, and the volume issue fixed magically. After that, I couldn't find that option once again in settings.
Sounds familiar. I think it's a built-in volume limiter. Should be able to find something in the settings and if not maybe enable developer settings and see if you find it there. Something like "absolute volume".
But it looks like you got it sorted out anyway.
Actually nevermind. I got that confused with something else. I believe all that would do is keep the earbuds and the phone volumes separate.
There's been talk that Android 12 and Android Auto don't work well in some cars - not OnePlus specific, but in general. Has anyone tried Android Auto with 12 yet on the OP8?
Alan
I did the update, and here is what I notice:
The icons on top of the screen are not the same size.
The Notifications sometimes are lost (Whatsapp/text etc)
Whatsapp voice calls echo and sometimes the phone does not ring
Ghost touches when gaming (clash royale)
The screen goes ON for no reason
The battery sometimes is okay, sometimes it drains (your mileage may vary)
Screen unlock fingerprint behavior slow at times and sometimes is fine.
The volume issue that everyone is reporting
All of if has been reported to OnePlus. If you visit the OP forums everyone is pretty pissed off about it myself included.
Honestly, it feels like this is an Alpha version of the ROM and they are using the general public to test and find bugs.
This is pretty frustrating a phone is not a toy is a tool for work and to communicate with others.
Fingerprint unlock stops working after a few days. Reboot brings it back.
Just to update. AA works fine with Android 12 on my OP8
