Tap Off stopped working - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone have this problem? After i recived my OPO i tried the tap to off at the status bar and it worked, after trying a new theme its not working anymore. Tried going back to the old theme, still not working.hoping someone could help thanx

Was just going to post a similar post about the double tap to turn screen of in status bar. Worked great for a few days and now it's very inconsistent. I use to be able to just double tap and the screen turned off like it should. Now when I double tap it either does nothing or opens up my clock or calander. If I press three times, sometimes it turns off.
I tried applying the stock theme, rebooting, and in checking and then re checking the option is settings. Still doesn't work like it use to. No OTA were applied between these times.
And feed back would be great to fix this.

Same here but I don't use it because I installed the app Screen Off but just checked now and all it does is try to pull down the pull down screens.

I unlocked my boot loader last night and it factory resets the phone. My tap to sleep is now working like it should. I'm not sure what caused it to stop working in the first place. I'll keep an eye on if I notice and apps updating that causes it to stop.

Issues... help needed

Got the phone last night. Worked fine except for the wifi issues that people have been discussing.
This morning, try to use GPS nav. As soon as the navigation starts, Maps would force close. Did this about 3 times before giving up and deciding to reboot. When I rebooted, it seems to boot, but nothing ever loads on the screen. I just have the status bar and the background wallpaper. That is literally it. No icons. No unlock screen. So basically the phone just sits there with the status bar and the wallpaper.
If I hold the power button for about 6 seconds, it reboots again, but it just goes back to the same screen: status bar and background wallpaper; no icons, no way to unlock, etc.
Any thoughts? I'm thinking I'm going to have to boot into recovery and just do a factory reset of the phone. Anybody know how to boot into recovery? Is it power + volume down?
EDIT: Also, FWIW, I haven't done anything unusual to the phone. No unusual apps. No custom launcher. The only thing I can think of is that I might have disabled some app that has somehow caused this, but I was pretty careful about what I disabled. So I'm really not sure.

Crazy lock screen problem

Whenever I set a lockscreen on my g3, knock for example, it works ONCE then reverts back so slide. (I also had lock when power is hit on) This a major problem so I'd like to get some help on this.

do you use a custom launcher?
Anyway i was playing around with it and got the result as you...the Knock code was working as it would turn on the phone, but if i pushed the power button it would default to slide. only thing i did was check the settings and apparently the "power button locks" did not stick so I unticked and cleared lock screen. then did it again and it stuck. works like it should now...
however this made the phone make lock noises.... must fix that now lol
Nope im on stock everything and it does the same thing for every type of lock. I'm hoping its just a bug that I can fix in the next OTA.

CM12 - Random Black Desktop on Wake

Hi - I have tried multiple Lollipop based ROMs on my OPO. All the Lollipop ROMs have exhibited the same failure on my OPO: When the phone wakes up, I will randomly see a totally black - and basically unusable - desktop, but have a fully working Status Bar and working pull-down Navigation Bar. Holding the power button also brings up the shut-down options. so, I know that my phone isn't dead or frozen, I just can't see anything on my desktop. If I press the power button momentarily to lock the phone, I will see the unlock 3x3 pattern grid when I power on, and I can unlock the phone - but, I see a black desktop.
I recently loaded the official CM12 nightlies, and I am seeing the exact same thing. One thing I have finally determined (which I suspected previously), is that there was some sort of App crash during the phone sleep that had a pop-up message on the screen when the phone woke up. After a lot of random finger mashing and loud screaming at the phone, I saw my desktop again, and saw that "Google App" had crashed. After clearing the error pop-up, my phone has worked fine without rebooting ... for now.
The problem with this is that the black desktops become more frequent as time progressed, eventually reaching the point where I would reboot my OPO and it would power up to a black desktop. In the past, I occasionally saw a flash that looked like a pop-up message before the black desktop, and now I have confirmed that is what is happening.
Does anybody know what is going on?
The problem can be the gapps package you're flashing. Try another one.

Thanks! Do you have a suggested gapps I should try? I loaded pa_gapps-modular-mini-5.0.1-BETA7-20150111a-signed with this build.

Black Screen Of Death

Hi all
Just wondered if anyone else has had a BSOD?
Brand new out the box, my Z5 connected and Google instantly downloaded my apps and contacts associated with my account from previous phone (Sammy Galaxy S4). This was OK, but it took a while and was about 70 apps. I rebooted after it was all done, of course, but occasionally I get this damn Black screen where everything is unresponsive (can't upload screenshot yet)
The only way to wake the phone up from this dark coma is to either reboot or switch user to guest then switch back again. Nothing else seems to work. Its probably one little app incompatibility but don't know how I'm going to find it except uninstalling 1 app at a time and testing the phone to see if it reoccurs. Could take ages to figure out.
Anyone suffering from this?
YES
Finally! Someone who seemingly has the same issue as I do!
It seems to happen most often when I hit the home button from snapchat, or some other camera app, but not always. Other details about my issue:
Screen goes black, but is clearly on. Status bar can still be dragged down, notifications can be pressed but do not respond. They can be dismissed.
Home screen, back, and recent apps buttons still respond, but do not do anything EXCEPT once in a while I can get it to go to just my background... no apps, icons, or anything else. At this point, the recent apps button disappears.
Prior to getting the black screen, my phone will not lock. It will turn off the screen when I press the power button, but when I press it again it is already unlocked.
Not sure what's up, or what I can do! Rebooting the phone helps for a little while, but I get it usually once or twice a day. It seems like it happens more on weekends, but that could just be confirmation bias since I used it more.
:crying:
Hmmm...
for me it doesn't seem to be triggered by anything - it just happens. (I don't have snapchat installed)
I've uploaded the screenshot as my profile image, so you can see the back triangle is the only thing that is not blacked out, that and the very top (battery/clock,signal, etc). If I tap the screen bottom right where the square is instead of seeing a list of recent apps the screen will flicker as if the list is scrolling up the screen but it all stays dark. I'm thinking of factory reset then reinstall everything. A PIA but as I have unlimited data it's no biggy.
Thanks for replying, Vargasm, and good luck with solving it. If you find anything out post back!
I have the same issue on my Z5 premium. There is no solution except reboot it. T^T
i have the same problem here. Phone is only a week old and totally stock. Have heard it may be due to a screen protector if you use one. I am loathe to remove mine though.

"Force touch" home button stopped working?

An hour or so ago everything worked fine, and then I updated my playstores pending apps (only Fleksy was pending) and the "force touch" feature of the phones seems to have completely stopped working, no matter what setting I turned on or off it didn't work...
Anyone has a clue as to what can cause this?
General notes:
1. Using stock Exynos unlocked variant
2. I am using package disabler (which btw didn't improve much my battery life, but that might be just me using the phone too much ) so maybe one of the packages decided that it depends on a disabled one?
I noticed mine stops working after a reboot and takes about a minute or two to get back up and running. Try a restart after clearing caches, if nothing still, reboot in safe mode. If it works, then its an app you installed interfering.

Mine also stop working after I restart my S8 Plus, it will again work if I wait around 20 minutes. Is this software or hardware problem? Any solutions?
Wish mine would stop working permanently! can't stand that feature forever brushing across it and waking the phone up!

How does it act up on your part? Mine would just stop working if I restart the phone & I should wait sometimes hours before it would work again.
Every time i'm installing my phone in my car mount I need to hold the phone from the bottom to install it correctly and brushing my fingers across the bottom is constantly waking the phone up, I've lowered the sensitivity to it's minimum.

I see, problem is not the same. On my part the tactile home button simply doesn't work when you press on it. I have to double tap to wake the phone when on lockscreen.

Unless your phone is unlocked no pins etc the phone will just go to the lockscreen, it's a useless feature, most people have the phones locked and thus it's a complete waste of time, it sounds to me the capacitive home button part of the screen was an afterthought because they couldn't install the fingerprint reader under the screen, just had a software update yesterday and still can't turn it off, basic stuff Samsung should enable an ON/OFF toggle switch for this.
Had the same problem with my S8 Plus India Variant(SM-G955 FD), I got my screen replaced from service center, Device was not rooted back then, so was under warranty.
But it is an hardware issue, as since then it has never gone off.
I mean when I press the home button hard it doesn't wake the phone up & no vibration. It happens when I restart the device then it would stop working for few minutes to a few hours sometimes, then it would start working again normally until I restart the phone again. I think this is just a software issue.
