Finally there's a Gear2 app for Backcounty Navigator. I've used this android app on phones for several years and it's fantastic. Now there's an app for our Gear2 that lets you display maps, waypoints and compass data on your Gear2. I was considering a Garmin watch but this app is even better!
Sadly, no app yet for the Gear S2, tho.
I bought the Gear S2 because I saw a YouTube promo for BCNav on Tizen, but when I couldn't find the app I emailed Crittermap. Here's how Dan responded:
"We will try to work on this feature (it has been halted before).
We can't give you an ETA as we do not have a dev who is available to work on this (We're a relatively small company)
Our support for Samsung would be more timely if they didn't change development paths twice a year and if their communication path between the watch and phone weren't so unstable."
Any clever devs out there want to give them a hand? I really want to use BCNav with my watch but I'm not that kind of developer

Trying out The latest beta release of the Tizen Wearable IDE with the Samsung S features added to it reveals a launcher that has a multiple left to right swappable widgets, and a swipe up reveals the app drawer, similar to Android lock screen Widgets and the Main launcher, also added is a built in IME.
but i wonder if the new Format of the Gear Tizen interface will be adapted to prior devices or will it be a Exlusive Feature/Design for the Gear S.
So .. thoughts anyone or info regarding the subject?
I think they should do it also for Gear 2.
Like they had converted Galaxy Gear from Android to Tizen, they should bring the interface of Gear S to Gear 2.
Actually, I like my Gear 2 better with its camera and infrared interface.
In any case, Gear S is running Tizen. If Samsung doesn't port the interface to Gear 2, some nice developer would....
true .. I was very pleased when I opened the new ide and discovered the multiple widget scheme its exactly what I wanted the launcher to become

There a 2 things i like about the Gear S.
Nicer UI so i hope they will port this to Gear 2.
And Samsung knows it has to partner up for really nice apps with third parties, to keep Tizen alive. So i hope these will be made also for the Gear 2.
Did you see the Gear 2 on the new Samsung Gear Developer page?
I've seen this video now:
http://www.engadget.com/2014/09/09/samsung-gear-s-diesel/?ncid=rss_truncated
We really need that interface (specially the keyboard facilities) on our Gear 2.
btw since I wrote my post I should have mentioned that the Gear 2 runing via the emulator on Tizen Wearable IDE 10.0.0.b3 Has the new UI as well. now im am a developer but not nearly as learned or exprianced enough to figure out how to compile the new UI. but the new IME comes as a template for implementing of keyboard on to self made apps so it may be easier then the entire UI... plus in the ref documentation in the newest base version of the OS 2.2.1.3 their is updates code for cross app dynamic call back and badge request... so its not beyond reason that we will be seeing more 3rd party Keyboards with cross app support.....
p.s
am I the only one who almost split my side laughing when apple announced its new smart watch... not because of the watch or anything regarding its look or use... but from the anti climactic dramatic announcement with the most idiotic brand naming in history..... they stood on stage and said we are proud to announce the Apple........ (drumroll.) Watch ... yes the Apple Watch... the one time they didiny stick an I infront of the name is also the time the I was most expected and needed simply for logical branding and due to the fact its being called the iWatch ever since the ipod nano was strapped to Steve jobses Wrist... they will stick that "i" Anywhere like forgetting your password is called iForgot but the watch .. nooo its simply the Apple Watch.. it sounds terrible way before you see it or know anything about it

I would love to see the Gear1 and 2 get updates to the new OS as well. As for the Apple Watch, yesterday someone seen my Gear 1 on my wrist and said "wow is that the new iWatch already?" What rock do all the iphone groupies hide under? I should have said yes, and showed him how it worked and stuff while recording him on the gear. Would have made a great YouTube vid for how much he liked all the new features etc. and didn't even realize it was nothing like the Apple Watch....lol.
Chris
dont forget the revolutionary apple pay.. let me explain what it is. its like nfc coupled with paypal or google wallet.. ahhhh sorry I mean a revolutionary technology like nothing you have seen before (waving 2 fingers infront of your face in a "these are not the droids your looking for" gesture) that allows you to pay through your apple account with some brand new futuristic close proximity data transfer module they call it NFC !!! is your mind blown or what
I have been using Gear Watch Face designer for sometime now and have the following questions:
How to display weather info on the watch face you are creating?
S-Health > Steps Speed as action button screen does nothing, just shows some info on how to use steps speed. Does it work only when you have an ongoing exercise program like running or walking chosen?
Hey there! Have a bunch of faces on the market now (Infinity Watchfaces)... Weather support isn't available yet, but Samsung said they would add it.
Steps Speed should calculate how fast you are walking or running I believe. Haven't used that one yet, mainly step count.
XP, anyone?
Is anyone using this program on Win XP? I realize that's ancient, but that's where my copy of Photoshop resides, and it's the machine that's really the best place for me to do any design work.
Issues getting watch face certified since the last update
Since the most recent update all of my watch faces are being rejected for "Unable to find the app due to the minimum supported OS version of Gear application."
I believe they are saying that it should be set for Gear S2 only but I cannot find a setting for that in Gear Watch Designer. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Hi all, bit of a longshot this one, but I thought I would ask as there is so much great information here. I am a type 1 diabetic and use a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) to measure my blood glucose. Currently I can measure this using the NFC capability of my Galaxy S7 Edge, and the Freestyle Libre app.
My question is could this be done with my Gear s3 by maybe sideloading (a phrase I just learned to be honest) one of these apps on the Gear s3?
It would make my life that wee bit easier, and I would be grateful. Thank guys.
You can't side-load a phone app on the watch - you'd need a watch app, someone would likely have to build it for you. Unless the good folks at Freestyle Libre or other developer are willing to create a native S3 watch app, you're likely out of luck.
You might have more luck w/an Android Wear watch, as the integration of the Wear watches and the phone apps may be easier.

Oh ok, thanks for replying, much appreciated. I'm stuck with the Gear for now though.

Liapp
billytrack, I'm trying to port the Liapp application to C++ in Tinzen to works on Gear S3 - but by the time I've dedicated to it I think I'll be delayed. I also want to integrate it with Samsung Health.

Hi all.
So it's been 3 weeks since I bought the gear S3 and I'm loving it.
I bought a couple of watch of faces through the app store and designed a few through gear watch designer so that Samsung has provided.
But the gear watch designer has it limitations. For example I couldn't create a complication for weather or phone battery and the ability to change color when we tap the watch face.
I was wondering if there is any other advanced app apart from the gear watch designer to create watch faces. I saw a few guys had made their own watch faces and published through the Galaxy app store. How are they doing those faces?
Thanks.
Watchmaker Premium. If you look on Google+ there are hundreds if not thousands of faces available. There is a large community of developers offering free faces that post on the Watchmaker community. I've given up on designing my own since you can request a face and if it's not one of the banned faces like Tag Heuer then someone will make it. Also look at Watch Face Pros on Google+, there are a lot of gwd faces there.

Thanks. But isn't Watchmaker Premium an Android application? Is this the app devs used to create watch face in galaxy app store?
I'm looking for a Windows based app because i could use mouse and keyboard for better accuracy. Hope you understood.
Thanks.

If you've got some programming ability, you can do it through Samsung Web Application Development.
Here's a discussion of just adding temperature:
http://developer.samsung.com/forum/...hface/201/305666?boardName=SDK&startId=zzzzz~
If you can wait, supposedly it's coming in the next version of GWD.
It's been discussed for quite a while here and over on the Samsung forums, and the guy that is in charge of the GWD is well aware that people want the ability to do it. Hopefully, it's sooner than later. I don't have the time to learn how to program myself!

I'm about to get a Gear S3 and I've been looking around for watch faces. I really like some of the ones on WatchMaster (not Watchmaker) and wouldn't mind paying for the Premium. But their description sounds a little fishy to me. I feel like they worded it in a way to sound as if they're offering more value than they really are. So has anyone bought the Premium upgrade? If so, I'd appreciate it if you can answer me:
1. Do you get EVERY watch face available or are there still some watch faces that require you to pay extra for?
2. Do you actually get unrestricted ownership of the watch faces (as in, you can use them on your watch for as long as you want with all the features built into the watch face)?
3. How is the performance of these watch faces? Any crashes or lag?
4. I found some nice watch faces here but the ones by "Pluto" like Timeless and Silver Bullet don't appear in the WatchMaster app on my phone. Can they only be bought individually in the Galaxy Store App on the Gear S3? Or can I not see it simply because I don't have the watch connected yet to my phone?
Thanks a lot!
Hello this is WatchMaster.
We would like to thank you for your interest in WatchMaster.
1. If you subscribe all of the watchfaces within WatchMaster are free of download/use, no extra payments will be required.
2. WatchMaster watchfaces are copyrighted to the designer. They are a restricted designs, the design itself belongs to the designer not the buyer.
3. To prevent from screen burn-in effects there can be crashes or bugs. Especially for Gear users, please read the Samsung developer page for detail information.
(developer.samsung.com/gear/design/home-structure/watch-face)
4. Some of the watchfaces we sell in Galaxy App store are in-partnership watchfaces so they won't be released on WatchMaster. In-partnership watchfaces are mostly free to download but other watchfaces will be easier to reach when you purchase Pro for WatchMaster.
Hope this answers your questions if you have any other questions please contact us via email ([email protected]) and we will do our best to help you out.
If you have a PC or a Mac and a touch of artistic ability, you can make your own watch faces for free with Samsung's Gear Watch Designer.
