Yes...
What is it that you are wanting root for? Soff (boot loaderunlock) is aceivable as well if you are wanting to load custom Roms. Two methods 1 firewater (free becoming less usable) or 2. Sunshine (same deves as #1) costs $25. Both will give you permanent root access.

What method is this?

Not for Verizon...

Thanks for the detailed explanation of what your looking for. Haha anyways, I cant post a link because I am still pretty new here, but search for RootJunkie on youtube and find his HTC One M8 Playlist. He shows how to unlock, s-off, root, and also has walkthroughs on how to flash new roms. He helped me a lot with my Verizon M8.

http://theroot.ninja for sunshine
http://firewater-soff.com/instructions/ firewater method.

The firewater app only gives root access for verizon m8 correct? If I want s off to achieve custom Roms and recovery I would have to follow those instructions correct again? I don't plan on any custom Roms etc at the moment.

Because they bought their phones in a foreign country during vacations, and HTC doesn't offers a good suport in theirs home country. So it is desirable get S-OFF from HTC even if it means lose warranty.
easy and strait forward root?
would this be an alternative to xda tutorials to achieve root on my sensation? im very new to android, about 3 weeks now, and i'd like to root my phone but from perm temp roots and terminology that i dont understand it made xda tutorials rather difficult. the only downside to htcdev is it could possibly jeopardize your warranty.

It's very easy to get S-OFF and root through Revolutionary. This method isn't good if you want to retain your full warranty. Just follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1232107

HTCDev site does NOT root your phone, it unlocks the BOOTLOADER only, which is the first step to permanently root your phone.

You don't need to flash a ROM to root.
You flash Clockwork Recovery Image on it, then you flash the root zip file to perm root.

2.20 Root Status

I'm just wondering as to the status of gaining root access on the AT&T 2.20 update. I just bought my HOX via a third party, and it came with 2.20, so right now I'm SOL.
I know ETA's don't typically exist, but will creating a bounty help move this along?

Hopefully someone finds an exploit because I want to install a custom rom so badly!
:crying:
There's nothing to report. My gut feeling is we will need to be granted sanctioned bootloader unlock to get root again.

Yes or someone needs to find a new exploit for the new 2.20 to allow root.

Yes. At the very least we need unlocked bootloader in order to install a custom recovery so we can install root.
I found this just a moment ago. I have no clue if these would work though.

If you have a retail outlet around you (i.e. Best Buy, etc.), you can do what I did. Return the new phone and buy one from old shelf stock. If they received it before August then it's guaranteed to have firmware of 1.85 or older.
This is really bad!

Rooting OTA 4.1?

Quick question for you guys. My HOX is currently running 4.0.4. I have yet to root it. I received notification that the JB update is available on my phone today. If I was to go ahead and update what are the chances I'll be able to root in the future? Would you recommend rooting now, unlocking the bootloader, and flashing this beastie now with another rom?
Thanks for the advice.
To be safe I would root and achieve s off before doing the ota.
I am not 100% certain that the current exploits to achieve root will work once you take the plunge and do the ota.

Absolutely.
Yes, definitely root and S-off first. I was shaking my head in disbelief where a couple of people in the x-factor exploit thread were lamenting the fact that they cannot now root after taking the OTA. What?? You had all this time to root while AT&T was taking its sweet time releasing JB, but instead you wait, take the OTA, and now you decide you'd like to root?

Bam! The beastly One X has been rooted and I've installed the latest Vipor XL Rom. So.... would you folks recommend I go ahead and S-Off? Is this truly necessary?
Thanks again
Makes life easier not having to flash boot.img, you can run older ruus, and you wont brick if you take the ota.

Yes. It will make your life much easier in the long run.
One example: Folks who were SuperCID and s-on, who took the recent JB ota, are now bricked because of the CID check. S-off turns all security checks off.

[Q] Roll back at&t evita one x from the JB OTA

If you were s-off or at least unlocked beforehand, yes. If you were never rooted, no, unless you can get the X-factor exploit to work for you.

Neither one. Had to do an exchange of my old hox due to an issue that arose after root.
X-Factor??
Is that a root method?
Used a couple of Hansoon's last time to achieve root.
Haven't found a "one click" method for the AT&T Evita yet.

[Q] S-OFF for LP

Hey everyone, just recently acquired a HTC M8 for Verizon and I need to get S-OFF achieved. Just to make sure that I've been reading correctly I need to gain temporary root for Sunshine to do its thing for S-OFF.
The phone is on LP 5.0.1 with 4.17.605.9 for the Software number. Is this the correct way to get TWRP and custom ROMs going, its been a while since I've owned a HTC.
Been doing some searching through the forums. It seems some people had issues with sunshine and LP. Anyone know if I'll end with a paperweight or what?
