[Q] Can't find 3gb of occupied memory on Nexus 5! - General Questions and Answers

Can someone help? I own a Nexus 5. I rooted it, flashed Android Paranoid on it and use Nova Launcher (for customization purposes).
The thing is, since I've flashed android paranoid ROM on it, i've simply lost 3gb of space!!
I have 4.8 gb of free space and 7.8 gb occupied. BUT when I search the folders in the computer or use any space management apps, despite it will tell me I have 7.8gb occupied, it only shows 4.4gb in files (like music, pictures, apps).
I mean, I DON'T KNOW WHERE THE **** ARE THESE 3 GB! IT SIMPLY DISAPPEARED!! Also, I use nandroid and titanium backups. I thought it was nandroid's backup because it was about 2.8gb big, but the file simply isn't anywhere!!!
I know 3gb doesn't sound much, but it is 25% OF ALL MY NEXUS 5 USABLE MEMORY!!!
tl;dr : I can't find 3gb of occupied memory in my Nexus 5 with any app or computer.
Please, please, please, can someone help me???

Also, some screenshots to make it more clear.

[Q] Nexus System Partition Size

Hi, I'm not sure if this is specifically a Nexus question or a general Android question but I have both a Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 and have observed the same behaviour on both
Basically what's happening is when I delete stuff from the SDcard the free space seems to be allocated to the system partition WTF?!
Take a look at the screenshots I'm going to try a couple of things - one of the suggested things was clearing the data in the Google Services Framework data >> Settings - Apps - All - Google Services Framework - Clear Data - which freed up some of it but not all, the next thing from here for me would be to flash the factory images again and see what I start out with
Both devices are on CM10.1 if that helps, is anyone else is having the same issue??

Ok so this is my partition sizes now after flashing the factory images back onto my nexus 7. No where near 5GB anyone have any idea what's causing this?
Updated the main post with evidence that this isn't my imagination - something is moving the memory allocation to the system partition rather than the sdcard =/

This is what I have recently. Even if in my internal memory is over 400 MB.
Why is that?
File system corrupted?
What is the command to do it from terminal to check internal memory?
Step one, delete the TouchWiz virus from your phone. That should free up significant amounts of space.

How you know that I have some virus? I was going to say that strange windows pop up specially on xda forum itself.
My antyvirus found no problem.
How to remove it?
TouchWiz is Samsung's bloat-tastic tweaks to stock android. It's not a virus per se, just annoying (at least I think so). So basically, Nard's suggesting that you flash an alternate rom.

Ayee.. so nobody know how to check manually system files?

What's using up SDCARD? Ghost files?

Please see these screenshots,

}
The used space is about 8.08GB and free space is about 4.48GB. But then in this screenshot the size of whole SDCARD folder is just 6.36GB.
So, what's using the extra 1.4 GB and where is it residing?
Extra notes:
1. Recently I had to factory reset my phone and lost everything on it, and after I added back my files from laptop the space reported was correct. No ghost usage.
2. The thumbnails files in DCIM folder got huge and I deleted them to recover nearly 1.5GB, but I'm not sure if that change actually shows up.
Please help with any insight. Also, does your SDCARD folder and storage usage show such differences?
Internal storage isn't just /sdcard. Its shared with /data so /data/app, /data/data is included.

Unknown storage use on Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014

Hi guys so basically I've been having this problem of not knowing what's taking up all my storage space on my samsung tab. It's not that bad of an issue but since I use this tablet to take notes during lectures, the space is very much needed.

When I click into the "Used Space" tab it tells me that apps are the biggest cause of the space deficit (about 5.55GB - the other categories in here take up very small space). However when I click on "Applications" within "Used Space", it shows me the image below. It doesn't really make sense as my biggest app is Evernote at 785mb. I have other apps also but surely they all don't add up to 5.55GB (there's only a few over 100mb the rest are fairly small).
I then thought the problem is with the "Miscellaneous Files" as it says that is taking up 4.81GB. Howeverthe image below shows this isn't the case.
So then I finally proceeded to use ES File Explorer to verify if there was 4.81GB being taken up. See the image below.
Fair enough the ES File Explorer seems to match up with Miscellaneous. But still, how can a 16GB file space be taken up when there isn't even 5.55GB worth of apps?
Can someone please help me with this as I really need this space to make my lecture notes. THANK YOU!

Yeah, that's the recycle bin, it's things you deleted at some point, ES File Explorer has that feature to retain deleted data similar to PC so you can retrieve it if you accidently delete something. You probably had an app with a similar feature.
