hey,
So I have a Bell Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant, it is rooted, runs 2.2 & Speedmod kernel.
It has been running fine on the speedmod kernel for several days now, until today. Out of no where, when I was using the phone Launcher Pro started CONSTANTLY force closing, basically leaving my phone in a useless force closing cycle.
AND, on top of that there are other apps that are force closing about every 10 seconds or so. they are: Market, Clock, and Samsung Apps.
Any idea whats happening here?
Thanks a lot!
~Dylan
did you install any recent apps that cause problems? it might be one of them.
You may need to ODIN back to stock.. well thats how we go back to stock on Galaxy S VIBRANT.
should be the same.
I haven't installed any apps that have caused problems that I know of...
I was just listening to music for an hour or so in the car, then when I unlocked my phone I was met with countless force close messages.
Yes, I was thinking that might be the route I have to go, but I was hoping there would be some way to uninstall those problem causing applications (namely Launcher Pro) somehow. I don't know how I would go about uninstalling it though, as my phone is basically rendered useless due to the constant force closing.
But thanks a lot for the input!

i don't think theres a difference between our phones, mines Tmobile Vibrant, but theres a built-in feature in stock, and most custom roms called SAFE MODE.
most people don't know about this.
This mode helps you do exactly what your facing, uninstall apps that act up.
In Safe Mode, it disables any startups and all that shiz.
Try going in like this.
shut down phone.
press power and wait till it get on vibrant screen, then start holding the MENU KEY the whole way until it starts.
the way to know if thsi worked is.. on the bottom left hand corner, it'll say SAFE MODE with a box aroundi t.
if this doesn't work, ODIN is the best way.
If you haven't turned it off recently, try a reboot. Yeah, standard boring advice, but I had constant-force-close issues a few months ago and a reboot fixed it.
So I somehow managed to get into the task manager by long pressing the home button, then from their I was able to uninstall Launcher Pro. So the CONSTANT force closing has stopped.
BUT, I still have plenty of other apps that are force closing very consistently. For example, everytime I go into the messaging application it force closes, so I can't send or receive texts. Along with that, Facebook, 'Clock', Samsung Apps, & Market are force closing.
When I go into the market it says **Connection Error (or something like that) and then sometimes force closes....so this problem renders the market useless as well.
Oh, and when I go into safe mode, I still get the constant force closing... but thanks for that info! I had no idea you could even go into safe mode with this phone.
Honestly, at the point flashing stock firmware back into ODIN is looking like my best option, but I reallllllly don't want to lose all of my installed apps, and text messages, and whatnot.
Anybody have any other ideas?
btw, thanks a lot for the input so far!
So I did a backup of all my data using the speedmod recovery menu (volume up, home, power)
If I reflash the PDA in ODIN, will I still have the speedmod kernel, thus allowing me to recover my backup of installed apps, texts, etc.?
Or will re-flashing wipe the backup and get rid of the speedmod kernel..?

Idk what the speed mod thing is.. But yes. It will be erased.
If u want to save backups of apps..
Get titanium back up doesn't matter if u get pro or free.
Just restart on everything dude.. Like a clean fresh install.
Its something that u installed or flashed that's causing these problems.
Sounds like your phone's internal SD is dying. Our Bell Vibrant has a nasty habit of the internal SDs dying, and I've heard that force closing all the time is one of the signs that the SD is going. There's a thread in development about this. I suggest you start backing everything up
Alright, I started from scratch and now everything is working great! thanks for your help guys!
plus, now I'm even running Darky's v7.5 Gingerbread Edition, this ROM is soooo epic. haha

OK, I should have read more before doing this. I had previously flashed the extreme power saving mod, and then this morning I activated ART. Which I now know I should not have done. I am now getting settings app force closing, so I can not go back and switch back to dalvik. Is there a way to remove the extreme power savings mod or a updated settings apk that will work? Been searching for a while and have not found a definite answer yet. Any help would be appreciated.
So I followed the advice of someone on reddit who said booting into safe mode then back to normal helps with battery life. So I did, and now nova launcher and Greenify lost accessibility privileges and when I try to turn them on the "turn on" button doesn't work (only "cancel" works"). I've tried restarting, looking through developer settings, etc but can't find out what changed. Any ideas?

Are you using Lux by any chance? If so, try disabling this as had the same issue but now works without a problem.
Wow I was using lux. I actually ended up factory resetting because of this issue and coincidentally decided not to install lux again, and I haven't had the problem since. How the hell did you figure that out? Lol
Do you use anything to control brightness instead of lux now?

I was just playing around with things and somehow just stumbled upon it. I am just using the buil-in auto brightness which seems to work pretty well. Glad it worked for you too.
Same problem, same fix
Uninstalled lux, changed settings, reinstalled lux.
Same problem on non-root S5 but no Lux or Twilight. And ideas?
My fingerprint scanner has been acting up lately, rooted on stock Rom, with twrp installed. Tonight I was out on the bike and put my phone into ultra power saving mode and now I can not get into my phone.
I click backup password but I don't get a keyboard I'm guessing the custom theme I have is the problem. (From galaxy store). There is no way to disable upsm and I can't log in now. Is there a flashable zip I could flash to get out of ultra power savings mode so I can type in my backup password and regain access to my phone.

Did you have a backup of your ROM?
Not a recent backup. I ended up using a USB keyboard and an otg cable. That let me type in my password, but then when I turned off upsm the phone constantly bootlooped. I was so furious. After trying numerous things to get in without a boot loop I ended up wiping everything except data and flashing a different rom ontop. And I was finally in. This rom is lagging and has wierd glitches probably from the dirty flashing but at least now I'm able to use tibu and save everything I need.
I'll tell you what tho I've never been more disappointed with a phone before, this ****ing Samsung has been nothing but headaches since I bought it. Massssssive lag constantly and the camera buzzes about when I start the camera, fingerprint scanner gets worse by the day. I'm over this pos, I wish the m9 wouldn't have been more or less the same as my m7 and I really wanted the scanner but I guess what's the point if it doesn't work anyways.
Thanks all for the help and sorry for the rant
To start, I have lost access to the reaction video of my wife's first pregnancy announcement. So I would even be willing to make a donation to someone who can help me. (If that is against the rules, let me know)
I used an app from the Play store called Package Disabler Pro to disable some of the bloatware on my phone. In doing so, I disabled something necessary for Ultra Power Save Mode to function. (perhaps Touchwiz) I use Nova Launcher. I tried to show UPSM to a friend yesterday and was met with a black screen. The phone was still running, as I could get the notification window to drop down from swiping. But I had no option to leave UPSM in the settings. The settings that were listed were very limited. I tried everything and ended up soft restarting the phone. It booted back up into UPSM with black screen (no launcher). I finally started tinkering around with Recovery and cleared the cache. At some point, I don't know if it was caused by the cleared cache, it stopped booting fully. I now get stuck at the finished ATT boot animation.
I'm at a loss as to the next step. AFAIK there are no custom recoveries for Galaxy S6 Active yet. So pulling data from ADB in recovery is out. The only other option I have seen is a 'dirty' stock rom flash. But I don't even know if that is possible or will work. If there is anyone out there that has any clue what I should be doing, please help me. I need help. :crying:
Thank you.

I'd say give the stock a try. The stock tars for our regular S6 dont wipe data. Let this be a learning experience to backup important items to the cloud or thumb drive

Is there a distinction between using Stock Recovery to flash stock and using Odin? Stock Recovery warns that user data will be formatted. So I'm assuming that it wipes the user data partition. All that aside, does anyone even know how to get ahold of S6 Active tars?
Ah! I have this same problem right now. Note5. Haven't dug myself that far into the hole yet, and I somehow got out of nova launcher and into TouchWiz (safe mode boot probably), but im stuck in grayscale and can't do anything other than the limited settings options or make phone calls. No texting, internet, full settings access, quicksettings, or really any apps but contacts and phone.
tip...

Have tried starting the phone in Safe Mode? Thats what I'd try.
Try what sd_N suggested.
Turn your phone on by holding power button + volume down
When you get the samsung logo, release the power button but keep holding volume down all the way until you get lock screen.
If you are able to boot to safe mode then there's most likely something you have downloaded / something running during your regular boot that crashes / malfunctions.
