[Q] Known volume issues with the Nexus 5? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am the current owner of a LG P350 which is no longer supported, and the P350 was well known for its horrible volume. I am hoping to upgrade to the Nexus 5, which I have heard great things about it. Could anyone just speak to the issue of Nexus 5's volume? I am currently in China and I cannot just run out to the local store to test it myself because it is not currently sold in this country. I will be having the phone brought to me. Thank you in advance for any comments.

Speaker is not very good. Bluetooth also I do not think is very good.
Wired headphones I find great, however please bear in mind, I do increase volume using Viper4Android, which requires root.

The volume is awful on nexus 5 and lg g2 if you want great sound I would go with HTC one m8 or m7 both good devices

[Q] Nexus 4 or Optimus G?

Hello. I want to buy one of these phones. Whitch should i buy? I wont use LTE, because my carrier doesn't support it. I dont really care about camera and I will be using spotify for music so I dont care about internal storage. But the most interesting thing is that Optimus G is cheaper than Nexus 4 in my country. So whitch should I buy?

They seem to be mostly the same: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=5048&idPhone2=4941
I'd go for the Nexus (if it's not that much more expensive), as it will surely get the next few updates.
whitch phone has better music quality?
Well the the Optimus G and Nexus 4 are basically the same phone internally except for a few things such as LTE ad a external sdcard. If you looking at how long your phone would be supported according to updates I would go for the Nexus 4 but if money is tight then go for Optimus G as it is literally the same phone. Overall if money isn't a problem then go with the Nexus 4 it is a good investment as you will be able to enjoy many iterations of android on it.

"The Google Nexus 4 audio output is virtually identical to that of the LG Optimus G. Hardly shocking, given that most of the circuitry inside is identical, but still pretty good news."
-GSMArena review
You can find it here:
http://www.gsmarena.com/google_nexus_4-review-860p8.php
I linked to the page with music quality tests.
The Optimus G spec sheet states that it includes "Dolby mobile sound enhancement", whereas the Nexus 4 doesn't. It might be more of a marketing term, though.
But I know how to install custom rom (I've done it hundreds of times with my atrix), so I can have latest android in optimus G too. I saw there is few stable roms for optimus G. So maybe thats the reason i should buy optimus G?
If you're into flashing - ROMs, that is - and the OG is cheaper, why not go with the OG? It's virtually identical to the N4, but has 32GB internal storage - there is no external SD card option.
I personally prefer the design of the N4, as it's more rounded and comfortable to hold than the OG. Also, I like knowing that I'll be getting updates straight from Google.
They're both great phones. Can't go wrong with either one.

I would personally suggest the nexus 4
I'd go with the Nexus 4, all of the other Nexus devices have been awesome.
N4
But i have 8GB of music, and i want to play some good games...

Knock On / Knock Knock

Hey there,
the Nexus 5 is out now, so first question: Any new information or any experiences if the Nexus 5 also has this really cool Knock On / Knock Knock feature like on the LG G2?

most likely it does not have the knock knock thing, but since the hardware is so similar to the g2, maybe a port could happen

Doesn't need a port. A root app for the galaxy nexus and nexus 4 already has this. It's called touchcontrol and had the feature before LG had it

Who knows what the device can and cannot do. Google didn't think it was important enough to tell us anything about the phone.
Thanks for your replies... I meant "out of the box"... Nothing read about it yet... well let's wait until the first phones arrive...
I have mine (UK - Carphone Warehouse purchased this morning) and there is no knock-knock out the box.

Simple answer. No. It will not have it. It's a nexus device and is purely android without the additions of what a touch wiz or LG ui or sense would offer.
No it cannot be ported because it's closed source and is heavily reliant on the LG ui frame work

Disappointed.. :(

Just received my Nexus 5 and am quiet disappointed with it.
The sound is OK, not as loud as my S3 but OK
The screen is very nice, but quiet a lot of display is used by the 'buttons'
Comparing side by side to the S3, the S3 seems to display more page.
Anyone have any comments or thoughts on this ?
Any way to get access to more of the screen without rooting it ?
Thanks

Its a nexus device, did you realize that nexus devices do not have hardware buttons before you bought it?
Not much you can do without root.
But if you do decide to root (use the guide in my signature) you can use pie controls or install a custom ROM/xposed module which will allow you to change the size of the navbar.

I realised that it had no buttons just thought it would have visible screen..
How does the nexus 5 compare to the S4, LG G2 and HTC One for useable screen space. ?

I was unhappy about the sound aswell, I rooted purely to install a sound mod that increases the volume greatly, and it doesn't have any distortion problems at all, see here.

PROS:
It's a decent price
It gets updates quick
It's fast
Camera takes decent pics in as long as nothing is moving
Design is good
CONS:
The cameras slow focus makes it next to impossible to take pictures of my new puppy.
The sound seems fine to me for speaker calling, for music not so much but who listens to music like that. I picked up a bluetooth speaker and use that anytime I want to listen to music sounds 10 times better than the speakers on any phone.
The screen size is good, the Galaxys are too big IMO feels like I'm using a mini tablet. I have the white version I don't care for the shiny edges but when my Nexus case comes I won't see them anyways.
My only other gripe other than the camera is I can't get an otterbox for it that's not the phones fault though.
Overall I'm happy with it for the price.

Why? Did you not do any homework at all prior to purchasing this phone? Are you not familiar with Nexus devices at all?
I'm so tired of these people who drop a few hundred bucks and don't even know what they're buying. It's not like the navbar is some kind of huge secret that people are discovering for the first time. It's a fundamental part of the Nexus experience, and there are plenty of other phones you could have purchased that don't have it. Complaining about the navbar on a Nexus phone is like jumping into a pool and then complaining that it made you wet.
^^^this. OP, please send me your nexus, I'll pm you my address.

And back to my point nexus isn't for everyone. I agree with the comments above, you should of done research before putting down a few hundred dollars on a device. The navigation bar should not been a surprise to you.
But you have a choice to return it also.

Well, there's no need to flame hard, but with all the people complaining about the N5's drawbacks...seriously? On-screen buttons? Remember what forum this is; literally all the ROMs have features to use full Immersive Mode, enable PIE, or decrease button size. Go and have a flashing day.
It's no big deal if you can use PIE or hide it or make it smaller; it's definitely something I can live with. I can't live with the ****ty perf of the S4 or the big big big bezels on the HTC One though. Worth it if you ask me...
@albert_htc these problems can be resolved by flashing custom ROMs and kernels, as well as Mods only if you're familiar with rooting and unlocking your bootloader

The navbar is not a "problem." It's an intentional feature of the device. There are mods you can flash to remove it, but they're not "solving" a problem - they're modifying or removing a feature that was intentionally included in the stock phone.
Once again, this is a standard Nexus feature that has been included in every Nexus phone and tablet that has been released since the Galaxy Nexus. This is not new, and it's not a "problem." The only problem is that there are apparently a bunch of people out there who refuse to educate themselves before plunking down hundreds of dollars on a gadget that is clearly not for them.

Sad but true. We spend $350+ on these phones we expect them to be flawless but sadly that's not the case. But what can we do we might as well unlock it's true potential and tweak them the way we want that's the reason why we chose android over iphone or for me that is
I have a custom ROM and kernel flashed and im very happy with this phone. Battery is stellar phone is snappy and I'm happy lol?

I'd wait. You've got a OnePlus One, and I can't imagine you (or anyone) being dissatisfied with its performance and requiring something that's "more". If you just want something new/different to play with, grab an LG G2; they're unbelievably cheap now, and still one hell of a phone. Or a 2013 Moto X, for when you don't want a big ol' slab flopping around in your pocket.

Nexus 6P headset suggestion INDIA

Hi there,
I need a suggestion for wired headsets ( with mic ofcourse ) in Indian market.
Lost mine in an accident.
If anyone would be kind enough to shed some light.
PS. Thanks in advance.
i am not from india but i have the xiaomi piston 2.0 headset and it is not working very well with the nexus 6p. would say 2/10 trials to plug in and actually works for me so i would say not a good idea to use the piston 2.0 headset.
Thanks bud.

Don't wanna jump the gun before buying any.
No problem buddy. I have the new xiaomi headphones is coming on the mail and will let you know if it would work well with the nexus 6p. I hope I would work tbh. Placed the order weeks before I got offer the 6p :/
