Camera... Why is photos app default!?! - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So when I take a picture and swipe left to view it, it now takes me through the photos app rather than the standard gallery. I read that clearing the defaults on the Google+ app might work....but it doesn't. Please help as I desire the old gallery compared to the new photo one. Is there a way to change?

AFAIK, there isn't. The Photos app has replaced the old Gallery app as the standard image and video library app.
Freshly baked from my Nexus 5

There hasn't been a gallery for a few versions now. Download QuickPic or push gallery.apk.

Gallery not showing some photos

The default gallery app is not displaying some of the photos taken with the camera. I can see the photos in the DCIM/Camera folder when I use a file manager app, but they don't show up in the gallery.
Problem appears randomly, but always dissappears on power off / on.
Anyone noticed this before? I do not know how yo recreate it.
Thanks,
Sankar

I've noticed this on/off with most android devices. Usually, to me it seems to be associated with having a large number of images in the gallery and it loading the images.
Yep, this is an issue had by others. Please star this report at Google: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=13419
delete content of /sdcard/dcim/.thumbnails and re-open gallery
Issue 13419: New pictures disappear in Gallery
Thanks guys, Issue 13419 covers this, and I've starred it
I've just experienced this myself. In addition, the pics stayed blurry when viewing pics individually as I scrolled through my gallery. Everything returned to normal after reboot. I've starred the issue also. Thanks.

I've made a video showing the bug happening:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OK8NO-97iOE
I take a photo, preview it without problem but when I load the Gallery app it doesn't appear. However, deleting an image seems to force the Gallery app to re-index the folder and the photos appear.
I'm hoping video proof of the bug may spur on a fix.
Happened to me earlier I just opened the camera app and then opened gallery from within camera... pics showed up in gallery afterwards

Yes/no
To view it to its full extent...you need the 4.2 gallery which has the ability to open up the picture the way it was taken and twirl it around/circle in 360° up down left right
But without the 4.2 gallery (most phones/I phones) it will open up like any other picture/panorama...flat and not spherical...which may distort the photo as its taken to be viewed in a sphere

photosphere apk inside the 12/11 build?
I have couple of questions regarding this photosphere, so please bear with me. I am on the 4.2.1 from Dec 2
a) Would you know if the photosphere apk is built into the 12/11 build released yesterday by Scott? If not, where can I get the apk? Also, can I flash it from the recovery as a stand alone file or do I have to flash it in a certain sequence (ROM, gapps, kernel fix, etc..and then this apk)?
2) How do I enable the photosphere thing in the camera settings?
Thanks in advance!

Photosphere was not in the update with the suggested gapps package. I followed the instructions in Scotts thread. Then disabled the gallery app from the manage apps screen. Then downloaded the 4.2 camera zip from the thread in the themes and app section here. Photo sphere works great now.
Edit: here's the link to the zip I used.

Gallery and Instant Upload

Anyone know how to get Instant Upload to show up as just one folder in the stock Gallery app? The stock Android Gallery app on my Xoom and Gnex just shows Instant Upload as a single folder whereas the Note 10.1 Gallery app groups each by there individual date into folders which makes a mess of the app.
If there is no solutuion, does anyone have a recommendation on a good replacement gallery app?
Thanks!

Difference between Gallery app and Photos app? Is it okay to remove Photos app?

After rooting my phone, I like to delete some system apps I never use. I was curious what the difference between the Photos app and Gallery app were? And if it was okay for me to delete the Photos app because I like the Gallery app more and would love to get rid of another app I would barely use.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Photos app only shows the "camera" photos, not all the other photos on your phone. Edit a photo with Snapseed? You won't find it in Photos.

HTC Gallery problem since root

Since I rooted my A9 the Gallery app doesn't update new photos and new folders where the photos are.
I tried to empty cache several time, even re-install the app but it won't fix it!!
It looks like another app is linked to gallery and this app is somehow frozen.
Am I the only one to have this gallery app problem after root?
I am using a third party gallery app but I want the RAW edit of the stock one
I deleted the htc gallery app then restored untouched system in twrp so it restore the original app...still not fixed! Now I have to open manually each photo in file manager so they appear in the gallery.
Any solution?
I can't raw edit old dng because the gallery wont see the dng, I am getting crazy
