Hi,
Am a noob so please dont my simple queries, new to Androids and person.
What are the pros and cons of Airplane mode?
Thanks.
Uhh...? Not even sure what kind of question is this.
Airplane just simply disables all your signals.
Cons: you use the phone as it was intended?

WHOA!!! Thanks for the heads up!!!!!
LOL @ phinnaeus
lol, yeah I tested this out the other night, it's pretty good. I don't know if it works with 4G yet though.
Is there any way that these tools can use the Access point mode rather than the AdHoc mode? I don't know much about how they are constructed, but my work computer doesn't allow Adhoc connections. Or is there another workaround I am not aware of?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Someone is working on it:
I can't post links, here is the patial link:
/showthread.php?t=697441
Yeah I really thought more people would realize this but there are like three threads devoted to this.
File this under redundant.
Guys, im the developer of Power Switch, an app that switches off your tablet's screen when you shut the case.
The main thread can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277712
Ive had reports of problems with the pad's light sensor, so would appreciate some debugging feedback.
You can use the lite version to test, it has all the features, but just wont save as much juice.
Thanks in advance. Feel free to reply here or in the main thread, i read both regularly!
Great idea. Does it require root?
Also, it would have been awesome if it could wakeup automatically as well, like the iPad smart cover.
No, no need for root.

That is a mechanical function. It is possible on android too, but it would kill the battery as you could never really put your device to sleep.

Who cares about a little battery juice? The cool factor would be awesome. Maybe as a timed option? Like 5 or 10 min. or more "auto wake" feature.
Fortunately, everyone cares.

I don't, and Im sure there are others that would like the option. As a developer who is trying to sell an app you might consider not generalizing your customer, rather say its not a feature I can, or wish to add to this app. Your app does have potential. Thanks for your efforts.
Ill keep that in mind. However, as a developer with some experience i still think everyone cares. Everyone who understands just what would be happening if the teblets screen would be off but it wasnt sleeping.

I'll give it a go and let you know!
Good idea.
Please do!
I think the auto wake up function would be great! Maybe you could make it as an option, people who like it can turn it on and who doesnt like it can turn it off.....
Installed it last night. Set the Auto Shutdown to 5:00, left most other defaults on. (Enable Sensors/Use Light Sensor). Plugged into AC. Closed screen and could see screen was shutting down. After 5:00 would be off. In morning (closed screen) fired it up and at full charge.
Quite nice! Anything else I should look at in the app?
I wouldnt mind if you had a good test of the sesitivity defaults...
I couldn't get it to work on my Transformer, it would only work the first time after that I had no luck getting it to register the closed lid, nor my hand covering the sensor..

Please, enable debugging and send some logs using the Write to developer item, I really would like to look into this issues.

Gotcha. Other active settings are Enable Power Switch, Confirmation 12 sec, Activation 8 Sec, Enable Sensors, Light Sensors (50%) and Acceleration Sensor.
Will leave there for a day or two.
thanks
Brilliant, thanks a lot this is just the kind of thing i am looking for!
Hi all
How can we leave wifi ON while we turn off the screen??
If you got the charger in, it will remain on.
But with the charger out. your wifi will be turned off and will be turned on again when you turn your screen back on.
Is there a registry hack so we can leave wifi on just like in windows mobile??
Thanks
You can't. It's not possible yet.
sucks.. hope microsoft will put in an option in apollo or tango.
tragic...it must be fixed asap!!!

What a pitty! I guess I'll be returning my Lumia 900 since I am sometimes in areas where there is no reception at and I still need work emails and whatssapp notifications.
Major design flaw if you ask me. No clue how MS believes this is a good behavior. At least give us the option!
Well, it's usually a good behaviour because it saves battery and that's pretty sure the reason why MS did it this way. But you're right a setting would be nice. Anyway, the data connection does still work.

If your cellular reception is not phenomenal, 3G drains battery way quicker than WIFI. I have done tests and seen that for myself. Again like you said, an option would be the best thing to do as everyone can be made happy with it.
Here's a trick: http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-tips-tricks-keep-wifi-running-all-the-time/
Thank Jim for finding it and myself for sharing it!
Hi all,
I just want to know whether it would be possible/easy to develop a function for android similar to "Quiet Hours" except have the timer set on airplane mode.
With this enabled or set to desired time-frame will have the benefit of longer battery, because the transmitter would be completely or partially off..
(Subjectively speaking) Less radiation levels emitted among us (cell damage) while we rest at night, as in most cases our phones are never too far from our reach some keep them under pillow I guess.
I've searched and found nothing on the xda forums related to this topic/subject of any kind, so there thanks for reading and I hope to hear some of your opinions on this, good or bad all are welcome..
PS: Maybe a vote poll can be arranged by mods to see how this implantation will score.
Have you considered the app Tasker? I've heard it's a pretty amazing application and well worth the money.
I hear what ur saying and it sounds like a mod some would enjoy, but for us who don't want to miss a call or text we just add that toggle on our notification bar and whenever we want it, we just tap on it.... it takes 5 seconds.
And many ROMs have mods that allow u to control what u want to happen when "screen is off" perhaps u want data to turn off or wifi to turn on to save battery.
If ur not already rooted, i would suggest u do and check out different ROMs and their extras that the developers add
Good luck
Vs Nexus S 4G

I wish I could just toggle airplane mode as you described in the notification bar but have the ability to preset it within it's setting, but android has no additional features built-in to airplane mode just a simple on-off flag.

Looks really good with all the custom options it allows, another must have I think..
Thanks for the suggestion.
I have posted something like this ib other thread, as 5 hours on battery, radio just took like 5% of all power consumption under normal circumstances while CPU and screen took over 90% of total power usage

Because i dont believe the marketing and i want some answers from those who have actually used some apps for an extended period of time(apps like '3G Booster' etc.).
