Anybody have steps for me? My USB is DEAD completely. I have CWM, Flashify, Bootunlocker installed. Now what? I need to get this puppy ready for a warranty repair...

Click the link in my signature. Download vomers stock ROM from resources section.
Also download stock recovery image ( can be found in the google factory image )
Steps are
-Flash vomer stock ROM via recovery
-Lock bootloader and reset tamper flag using boot unlocker
-Flashify stock recovery
-unroot via supersu app

If it's a hardware issue and you are returning it to Google (not LG) then I doubt you need to do anything. I had a USB port issue and was rooted, with custom recovery and kernel and had no issues on getting a replacement.

[SOLVED] Did I brick?

Hey everyone,
So I think I may have done something strange and i'm not sure how to fix it. Long story short, screen cracked, so I bought a new one and I used TWRP to backup my original phone. So now, i'm just trying to unlock and root, you know, the usual. BTW, I tried using ABD/Fastboot, which I never typically do, but I heard it was more efficient and whatnot so I thought I try. I think the unlocking of the bootloader went well. And I even think I flashed recovery properly. But when I tried to access recovery, it prompted me for a password.
I read on the TWRP site I was supposed to let the phone boot as normal before accessing recovery. Oops. So I tried formatting all the data on the phone and no I have no OS or any files to recover from and adb push keeps giving me "Device not found" and now I don't know what to do.
Help?
EDIT: In case anyone has this issue searching threads, I just used Wug Toolkit to flash everything back to stock and then used the same Toolkit to unlock and root. TWRP isn't going to recognize a backup from a different phone. To my understanding, there is a way around that, but I didn't look into it. Oh, and apparently, don't flash the EFS partition lol

Oh, that reminds me, TWRP wasn't able to mount any of the directories, it seems. I think it can, now, but I remember seeing those errors in the log before I wiped everything. Thanks for that suggestion, i'll give it a shot.

I can't seem to find on the internets which odin version is compatible with the Nexus 5. I'm not finding any hits to directly correlate and I don't want to damage further. Which one would you recommend?

Odin is a Samsung thing. Not LG.
What you'll need to do is flash the 4.4.2 factory image. Follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513701

OK!
So, I used the Wug toolkit to basically flash everything to stock, and then root it. I installed TWRP using the app and I tried using the app to restore from my earlier back up. So, it boots into recovery but nothing happened. Looking at the log, it says the TWRP isn't able to locate the files. Trying to just restore from recovery isn't helpful because when I hit "Restore" nothing pops up. As if the SDCard partition isn't being accessed. I can't see any of the files in any directory. Anyone have any ideas?
You need to let the phone boot into android before flashing a custom recovery.

Did you put the backup on the root of the sdcard? I think it needs to be in the TWRP folder. You should first make a backup of your current rom even if it's stock rooted.

Someone explained to me TWRP won't recognize a backup with a serial number from a different phone. So essentially, I will just have to forego it. I used Wug Toolkit to fix this issue and just flashed everything to stock and had the same toolkit unlock and root. Using ADB was a fail and cost me a whole afternoon lol

Rooting my nexus 5 (questions)

So I am waiting for my nexus 5 to arrive (hopefully by end of this week or early next week) and I am pretty sure I want to root it. Coming from a rooted s3, there are just way too many advantages of Rooting that I cannot give up. So I have a few questions:
1) how easy it is to relock the bootloader for warranty purposes? Has anyone had to send back their rooted phone to Google and been successful?
2) has anyone here unrooted their phone successfully and sent it back to Google for warranty?
3) if I root but do not flash a custom rom, will I still be able to do Ota updates?
4) will simply uprooting the device (with stock rom) cause any unstability issues?
Thanks!

1) see the return to stock thread (sticky) in general
2) yes by following the thread in 1)
3) theres a great thread called "ota help-desk" in general that covers this. Its not a sticky but easily located with search
4) uprooting? If you mean unrooting, then no

generally, if its a hardware issue with your device, google will accept rooted devices to fix/replace. if its a software issue, theyll just send it back. ive sent a nexus phone and tablet in for replacement last year, both were still rooted, both still had custom recoveries, custom animations, custom roms, and custom kernels. they gave me no issues about the exchange.
Oh that's great to hear. Then why is known that unlocking your bootloader voids your warranty?
That's my biggest fear. If I unlock the bootloader and then have a hardware issue and cannot relock the bootloader, Will Google refuse to fix it?
Thanks for all the replies! I will check out those topics and videos.

if you buy the phone from somewhere else, it will void the warranty, but its easily locked with "fastboot oem lock". but through google, as long as its a hardware issue, they will take care of you.
I ordered the phone from the play store (in canada) so I assume all will be good.
Also to the link to an app to the play store, how exactly does that work? It seems like the perfect solution so why don't more people use it?

You can using CF-AutoRoot, but it's all a bit one-click which removes your learning curve and invariably ends with you bricking your device, so lets go the custom recovery route please

Yup, download the latest TWRP recovery, plave it i the fastboot folder and rename it to twrp.img. Place the superSU.zip file on the phones `s sdcard.
Boot into bootlader and type in cmd: fastboot boot twrp.img, twrp will boot (not install) and you can flash the superSU.zip file and reboot.

Best way to get back to stock?

So I am currently on vacation for the next week, and I wanted to bring my phone back to stock. Not nesesarily unroot, but stock enough to completely start from scratch. I am running PA. I do not have access to a computer until next week. What will be my best route?
I want to be able to get an OTA if there is an update, and I won't mind losing root once there is an update. That's one thing.
As well as, what can I do once I get back to the stock state which will help me completely wipe my phone without having to flash the stock image (once again, no computer)
Thanks!

This is only a stock rom. It leaves your recovery etc as is. By a PC, you return the whole phone to stock.
Unless you're having issues, I wouldn't recommend doing anything whilst you're away

Can't get my 5 into the bootloader

Long story short, I tried to flash the hellscore kernel (via the HC's management app).... it booted into TWRP... flashed the kernel, then blackness.
Then it wouldn't turn back on... played with button combinations and 10 minutes later, I got into the bootloader, went into recovery and loaded the system and boot backup, thinking I was good to go... Nope... on boot... blackness. Tried a few other things, taking forever to get it into the BL again. Only thing I can figure is that it borked the ramdisk or something.
Now, I am going to go full on, plug into the computer, low level reset. So I've been doing the button tango for a while and figured someone here might know the real mystical incantation I need to do to get it reliably into the BL. It's fully charged and when plugged into my computer, I can hear the USB pinging on and off while I fuss with trying to reset it.
Anyone have an idea?

I eventually got it into fastboot. the adb with the SDK didn't see it, but Wugfresh could (so people who say toolkits are useless can kiss my grass). So I'm back at 444 stock... lost a few files, including the tb backups that I didn't cloud (damnit)... nothing life shattering though.

DOH! Yep... forgot about that... My ADB/Fastboot is a little rusty. I haven't had to fuss in there for months. But I eventually got the key combinations right and got the backup bootloader loaded (the main was overwritten by the HC's overwriting it with the Nexus 4's boot image...).
Bleh...

m8 camera just stopped working.

Hey,
I have a m8 and recently the camera app just does not work. I tired factory reseting, clearing data and chace...trying safe mode and the camera cannot load. In snapchap, the rear camera works but only the top camera used for distance so it's essentially dead. The selfie and main rear camera just don't work. I don't know what's up.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks!
That's probably a good thing. Now you can quit wasting your time trying to take a good picture with the M8's crappy camera. LOL
Sorry, I have no idea how to fix it.
Yeah that wasn't helpful...and I find the camera quality to be sufficient.
I bought my m8 from the verizon kisok from costco about 10 months ago so it's under a year. Perhaps I should call verizon tomorrow and see what they can do? The website says itll be free if its under a year, but my phone is rooted so I'm a little anxious. I'm not interested in a 400 fee for modifying my phone.
Anyone deal with their (verizon) repair center before?I could also try sending it back to htc?

Hey,
Hope you had a good weekend. Tried using the downloaded app in the description but fastboot kept failing. REbooted into my bootloader, which isnt twrp anymore....rebooted android and despite the failed FUU it is stock, but my camera does not work. My recovery is stock (i think?) and no longer TWRP. My bootloader still says *Software status: offical **unlocked**
How should I proceed for sending my phone to verizon? I want to remove any traces of modifcations so my request isnt void. since I have until the end of October I can hopefully get it fixed. WOuld like to send it out in the next couple of days!
Thanks again!

How should I proceed for sending my phone to verizon? I want to remove any traces of modifcations so my request isnt void. since I have until the end of October I can hopefully get it fixed. WOuld like to send it out in the next couple of days!
Thanks again!

I could do it by myself, however if I find it hard perhaps we could schedule a time for team viewer?
I'd hate to inconvenience you like that.

Lol. It would take longer for me to type it out again or even go find the post where I spelled it out than to show you it over teamviewer

How long would it take? I could perhaps do team viewer but I don't know if I'll have a chance tonight since im running around haha
also if I need to forward ports im on a campus so I'm unsure if I'll be able to do that to utilize teamviewer.

I have time off tomorrow so I'm going to do this and hopefully return my phone sunday. Am I just applying your post or am I doing the first post? There's a multitude of directions so I don't want to execute the wrong thing.
Ran echo -ne '\x00\x00\x00\x00' | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 bs=1 seek=33796 on terminal on my phone and permission was denied.

went into twrp terminal emulator.
typed echo blah blah
exited and rebooted into botloader....it shows Software Status: Offical and ***locked ***
I ran the applicable s-on RUU and removed root I believe (i didnt see supersu anymore but my apps werent deleted)
now I turned usb debugging on and used adb to reboot into bootloader and turned fastboot on and ran:
Fastboot oem writesecureflag 3. and I got some weird text in the command prompt.. I ran the code again and the second time the text ended with permission denied so I assume my phone is ready to be shipped for repairs?
