m8 camera just stopped working. - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Hey,
I have a m8 and recently the camera app just does not work. I tired factory reseting, clearing data and chace...trying safe mode and the camera cannot load. In snapchap, the rear camera works but only the top camera used for distance so it's essentially dead. The selfie and main rear camera just don't work. I don't know what's up.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks!

That's probably a good thing. Now you can quit wasting your time trying to take a good picture with the M8's crappy camera. LOL
Sorry, I have no idea how to fix it.

Yeah that wasn't helpful...and I find the camera quality to be sufficient.
I bought my m8 from the verizon kisok from costco about 10 months ago so it's under a year. Perhaps I should call verizon tomorrow and see what they can do? The website says itll be free if its under a year, but my phone is rooted so I'm a little anxious. I'm not interested in a 400 fee for modifying my phone.
Anyone deal with their (verizon) repair center before?I could also try sending it back to htc?

Ruu doesn't change s-off status or boot loader status. Run the ruu and see if the camera behaves. If not we can lock it back up for warranty work.

This guide correct? It will return my phone to stock (and rooted). If this doesn't work, then I'll need to restore to stock and ship my phone by contacting Verizon?
Thanks

Hey,
Hope you had a good weekend. Tried using the downloaded app in the description but fastboot kept failing. REbooted into my bootloader, which isnt twrp anymore....rebooted android and despite the failed FUU it is stock, but my camera does not work. My recovery is stock (i think?) and no longer TWRP. My bootloader still says *Software status: offical **unlocked**
How should I proceed for sending my phone to verizon? I want to remove any traces of modifcations so my request isnt void. since I have until the end of October I can hopefully get it fixed. WOuld like to send it out in the next couple of days!
Thanks again!

typed echo blah blah
exited and rebooted into botloader....it shows Software Status: Offical and ***locked ***
I ran the applicable s-on RUU and removed root I believe (i didnt see supersu anymore but my apps werent deleted)
now I turned usb debugging on and used adb to reboot into bootloader and turned fastboot on and ran:
Fastboot oem writesecureflag 3. and I got some weird text in the command prompt.. I ran the code again and the second time the text ended with permission denied so I assume my phone is ready to be shipped for repairs?

Ok I am pretty busy this weekend, how ever below is a few files for you guys. I know some doesn't belong here but since I nabbed them I figured I would throw them in the post also. Now since I am not familiar with the process of flash recovery with the htc unlock. If someone would be kind enough to post the commands, it would save me some time. How ever be warned this does not have the wimax stuff in it. As it has been a good while since I played with a shift 4g. In turn I almost forgot all about the wimax stuff.
Any way here goes.
Stock Recovery: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24065431/Kindom_Stock.img
Cwm Recovery ( Not sure of the version right off but synced sometime last week): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24065431/kingdom-testing_recovery.img
Stock Radio (Not sure of version, but is from the ruu for you guys): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24065431/radio.img
Then for kicks h-boot 1.22:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24065431/hboot_1.22.0000.img
I have no idea if it will work, but don't see why it won't at least boot. Since I don't know what issues you guys had to begin with. Not sure what the recovery may have issue wise. Let me know if it boots and if keys are mapped correct. Functions you can test though be warned to do so at your own risk.

[Q] Is there a way to completely wipe HTC One XL?

Ok... so, I'll admit it, I messed up my One X. Was trying to put CM10 on it, got stuck on the blue, circular boot screen. Tried several fixes from the forums, but nothing worked. One attempted fix even ended up writing over TWRP. Now all I can get is HTC boot screen (complete with red wording beneath) and occasionally the CM10 screen. The fastboot screen says "tampered" and "unlocked".
Here's my situation. AT&T is sending another phone. I have to send this one back to them, and I just want to make sure that they can't figure out I was trying to install a third-party ROM. Is there a way to completely wipe the device altogether so that I just won't even try to boot?
If not, I'll just take my chances that they don't know what to look for besides water/physical damage and won't charge me full price for the replacement.
Any help is appreciated.
Your device is in a completely fixable state but ok...if u want to make it so your device doesn't turn on at all flash a Rom called ice cold jelly ...if youother wise the best you can do is have it say relocked and they would know you unlocked the bootloader...
don't flash ICJ, just relock bootloader and ruu.
if you have no physical damage why are you getting a replacement phone?
Did you flash boot.img?
And how about you not ask how to defraud att because you don't know how to flash and fix a botched flash.

You can't BC its an app.. Download tarp off the official site, a quick Google search brings it up first shot... Once downloaded, drop the recovery img into your adb and fastboot folder.. Enter fastboot USB on your phone. Now right click on your adb/fastboot folder and choose "open command prompt here"
Once cmd is running, type fastboot flash recovery <---- type in the name of the twrp img you dropped in

Exactly right! If you screw up your phone, take responsibility for it! Don't make somebody else pay for your failure.
Do you even read before you flash rom's? clear red letters. This could brick your phone or even worst if you dont know what you're doing
Research very much before doing anything, that's how I started

Completely agreed. The notion astounds me (and disappoints me also) that the OP was going to send the phone in for a warranty replacement simply because they didn't do the proper research and learning before modding the phone. And when the condition was completely and easily reversible. If the screen comes on with this phone, it can be recovered.

Rooting my nexus 5 (questions)

So I am waiting for my nexus 5 to arrive (hopefully by end of this week or early next week) and I am pretty sure I want to root it. Coming from a rooted s3, there are just way too many advantages of Rooting that I cannot give up. So I have a few questions:
1) how easy it is to relock the bootloader for warranty purposes? Has anyone had to send back their rooted phone to Google and been successful?
2) has anyone here unrooted their phone successfully and sent it back to Google for warranty?
3) if I root but do not flash a custom rom, will I still be able to do Ota updates?
4) will simply uprooting the device (with stock rom) cause any unstability issues?
Thanks!

1) see the return to stock thread (sticky) in general
2) yes by following the thread in 1)
3) theres a great thread called "ota help-desk" in general that covers this. Its not a sticky but easily located with search
4) uprooting? If you mean unrooting, then no

generally, if its a hardware issue with your device, google will accept rooted devices to fix/replace. if its a software issue, theyll just send it back. ive sent a nexus phone and tablet in for replacement last year, both were still rooted, both still had custom recoveries, custom animations, custom roms, and custom kernels. they gave me no issues about the exchange.
Oh that's great to hear. Then why is known that unlocking your bootloader voids your warranty?
That's my biggest fear. If I unlock the bootloader and then have a hardware issue and cannot relock the bootloader, Will Google refuse to fix it?

if you buy the phone from somewhere else, it will void the warranty, but its easily locked with "fastboot oem lock". but through google, as long as its a hardware issue, they will take care of you.
I ordered the phone from the play store (in canada) so I assume all will be good.
Also to the link to an app to the play store, how exactly does that work? It seems like the perfect solution so why don't more people use it?

You can using CF-AutoRoot, but it's all a bit one-click which removes your learning curve and invariably ends with you bricking your device, so lets go the custom recovery route please

Yup, download the latest TWRP recovery, plave it i the fastboot folder and rename it to twrp.img. Place the superSU.zip file on the phones `s sdcard.
Boot into bootlader and type in cmd: fastboot boot twrp.img, twrp will boot (not install) and you can flash the superSU.zip file and reboot.

Get S-On back?

I S-offed my device just to notice I have a dead pixel.
Is there an RUU I can flash to get S-On back or can I just do Fastboot OEM lock?
Thanks.

I too am trying to figure out how to S-On my device. Like you, I noticed a defect after the fact.
Currently there is no RUU available. However there is a thread in the android development section that contains boot, recovery and hboot image files, along with a system dump which you could technically push back onto your device to get a stock system folder.
I'm currently trying to figure out if flashing hboot.IMG is a good or bad idea, or if it will even result in S-On.

exactly. i now with the RUU i can get fully stock though. i am scared to go back to the verizon store with recovery installed on my device and all the phone people are telling me to go to the store. what i need is stock recovery but i dunno.
The people at the store aren't that intelligent lol... Most don't even know how to boot to recovery in the first place...
You will be fine if you go in and show them the dead pixel. They will replace it on the spot for you.

And look what I found...
This guy over here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2710503 made a modified hboot that APPEARS as s-on so if you flash that then it will hide that fact that you are actually s-off and in the crazy chance that a vzw employee checks they will be tricked into thinking you are still s-on.

YMMV - verizon stores in my area are really stubborn when replacing a phone comes into question. One even tried to tell me i was still rooted on a phone that wasn't currently. And by 'on the spot' you mean you walk out with a new phone? I've never had that happen.

Wow that sucks... I guess I'm just lucky then. I always make sure to schmooze them up before I ask for anything. (Same thing on the phone. I'm always super nice to them. The service reps have the power to do anything on your account. Last week I got a $100 credit on my acct just because I asked.)

I just exchanged the phone today without relocking. It's going back to the mfr anyway so I'm sure they'll relock it or whatever. Had no issues but the people at the store I go to are really damn cool.

yeah. this guy is just a snob. like anyone who goes in there he goes into the bootloader or recovery to check if they have a custom recovery.
my friend who had a prepaid device had to freaking do that and that really pissed me off. but yeah. ill try go late in the day. i dont think he works that late.

WeakSauce Marshmallow

Can't seem to find the magic incantation for searching. Sorry if this is redundant.
Installed WeakSauce on my HTC one M8, Marshmallow, Verizon. Clicking "INSTALL" does nothing - no error - no confirmation - it's like I never clicked the button. The app is running, I assume, because clicking "CANCEL", exits as expected.

Highly doubt weak sauce will work on marshmallow. Where did you see that it would?
Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk
never saw anyone claiming it would work. but the author makes a claim that it may work on devices for which it was not originally intended. so i gave it a shot. it didn't work.
Weaksauce won't work on marshmallow, you should have unlocked before taking the ota. The "can't click install" issue isn't a weaksauce issue, its a Google "feature". Disable any apps that are using overlay (screen dimming apps are the most common).

Help!
First off sorry if it's an answered question already but I can't find it, but was wondering if I can get s-off on my damn phone with MM 6.0, or root any other way? Everything I seem to find does not work and it's becoming increasingly annoying. I tried sunshine also but it didn't ask for payment so I assume it's not compatible with MM or something. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you are 100% stock and haven't tried other methods the latest sunshine should work. If not, run the latest signed ruu I have posted and try sunshine again. It should work.

I am 100% stock and have tried other methods as well but don't work. Sunshine right now runs the tests and says it's good to go, but never gives me the option to buy and when it tries to petmroot it fails. I'll try the ruu you mentioned and go from there. Thanks for your reply
I'm pretty sure "weaksauce" was controlled "online" by the devs (Sunshine Crew) and a time came when they took it offline and rendered it useless due to some highschool B.S. bickering, crying and.... And SUNSHINE was born!!! @beaups or was this "online" idea creating and taking life from weaksauce another internet rant?? By the way, you guys who have been making it possible to free our HTC devices all this time deserve to by called RockStars.. And in cases making seeming impossible possible with only java code.. Einsteins of there trades/hobbys/passions. I gladly paid for Sunshine and I will again and again and again if I ever need to. I stated once before when people were *****ing about paying for it that they should get off their asses and develop something similar what does the same and put it out there for free or shut the f up. Or go talk to the bastards that sell you "your" that is "your" phone "your" phone locked down, kind of like a car that you can't turn the seatbelt Dinger off. even though it's "your" car

Sunshine is what I've been trying to get to work but no success as of yet. I tried @dottat RUU 5.0.1 in the blue links but when I flashed it it said target reported max download size bla bla could not load zip. It's in the same folder as my htc-Fastboot is in. SD card won't work it says it's too big.
HTC6525LVW
STOCK ,LOCKED BL, S-ON

Use the suggested fastboot exe I have posted. Your fastboot doesn't know how to flash that.

Then you can't be using the right signed ruu or command. If you were, it wouldn't be sending large files. I can help you flash it remotely if you want.

That would be nice I'm having problems with this one. Isn't the blue link with 5.0.1. Zip the right RUU? and then I'm just doing the fastboot oem rebootRUU
Then fastboot flash zip 0p_____.zip
