How to port Android to Jetson TK1 - General Questions and Answers

I have a Jetson TK1 dev board powered by Tegra K1 and currently its running only Ubuntu 14.04. I have no developing skills (yet) but I'd like to port Android to it. There is already Tegra K1 powered Android device, Xiaomi MiPad.
Can someone please help me porting Android?
Thanks!

I'm sorry , I'm not trying to sound mean but you cannot just port a ROM in a day specially when you have no knowledge in developing / building ROMs.
Plus the Xiaomi Mipad is AFAIK is running a MIUI ROM. Not stock vanilla Android . Which I think it will make the process really hard (IF you plan on using the Mipad as a source)
and you said it "I have a jetson TK1 Dev Board" its a DEV board. why did you buy it when you're not a dev ?
There is currently no official Android for it so you gotta wait till someone ports android to it !
If you want to learn the basics of porting ROMs then there is at least 10 tutorials and guides on XDA , go read them might be a good start.

Can we please port this rom to gsm

HELLO DEVS !
i have been searching around xda for sometime now.. and i stumbled across a rom for the NS4G... i didnt think anything of it except for... OMFG ITS SENSE ON THE NEXUS S JESUS CHRIST ALMIGHTY !!
SO
what i'm hoping we, the xda dev community, to get accomplished is porting this Nexus S Sense KANG to our gsm nexus S ! I got this idea after someone had actually said in the OP of the kang "ASK ONE OF YOUR DEVS TO PORT IT"..
Anyways ! Here's the OP of the Rom that i'm asking we work on !
LINK -----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20250635
BUT ! I'm also offering my services to help anything that the devs might need ! I have both windows 7 and ubuntu installed on my computer (Dual Core Toshiba i3 @ 2.44 GHZ) and i alos have basic knowledge of general programming and testing (I can obviously use ADB and Fastboot no problem, I have used SDK's before ect. ect.)
SO
hopefully one of you devs out there who would like to port this rom to our nexus s' , if you want to contact me ? PM me obviously or email me ! [email protected]
THANKS SOOO MUCH, I'M SO EXCITED!

Porting a kernel.

Hello,
I am pretty sure this is a fairly common question and everyone would like to have kitkat on his device. I can use google to find out most of the tasks i am about to do, but i have to ask first.
I have a pretty anonymous device, a Chinese phone, rebranded in Europe. It features a hardware similar to this: mediatek MT6577
However the manufacturers only released a 4.0.4 ICS Android for it, and the comunity managed to develop a 4.2.2 JB. It is important to know that other manufacturers have rebranded this phone as well.
It is known as Allview p5 duo, Fly IQ441, Walter Primo G1(i think) and other brands.
What would i need to make a kitkat ROM image for this model? How hard is it to "port" a kernel that was in ICS to 4.4? What tools would i need, and also what knowledge?
I hope some dev sees this post, sheds some light over the issue and points me in the right direction. I really want to learn about Android OS developement and i feel this is the best way. Also i want kitkat on the phone.
Thank you !

developement
Thank you for your answer. I would also be interested in actual development as it is an area that interests me. What would i need to actually be developing parts of the Android OS. No dalvik parts related, only the OS / kernel parts. Do you guys know any good books on this?
Is there any full kernel source of mt6589? Gonna sell my device (Though I have HTC one)

[Completed] Can somebody develop a rom for my device?

If it is not too much to ask, of course, I have a chinese phone of a mexican brand and there are no roms for it, I have tried to port roms from another devices but none work and I know nothing about development. I asume the rom files might be required, if anything is going to be developed, right?
It has a mtk 6582 processor, and runs jelly bean.

Android Go :V

There is still any dev for janice? :silly:
As some of u know, Google is going to release Android Go based on 8.0/8.1 which should work fine on 0,5GB devices, maybe second life for janice?
Official site
I think Janice still have some devs on, there was someone working on a 7.1 ROM, maybe we can have hope

Go is 8.0 based so idk if it's any sense to build Oreo when we know that it won't be stable xD

I thought it is 8.1 , isnt it ?

Probably yes, 8.0/8.1 are same OS with small differences

I didn't think you had a S Advance too.

I had one before , around 2012-2013. At that time there is less rom to use

Too bad, I'm looking for an active dev, but they continue to say they need the device...
so now I'm looking for someone who does have it but doesn't use it.

This device chip is absolutely same ( and brother phone ) to ace 2 . I suggest you to give the device to ace 2 (chrome) dev...

It's still my primary phone, so I can't.
But I'm available to make a small donation of 10 euro.
Unfortunately I don't think it's enough, so I invite anyone to post here if you agree with this idea (or the idea to give your S Advance).

I used it just around 2012-2013 , why dont i use it now ?
It was sold in 2014

I understand, don't worry. :good:
I am disposed to take part in the collect, considering how much as now an s advance costs, wouldn't be so hard to get quickly the money and with very little effort for all.
I think that is a good idea and can really give a new life to our device.
Obviously a spare s advance of a willing and generous user would be the best thing we can hope in, but seems really hard to happen, however, my hope isn't died yet
Maybe on weekend i'll look into what changes are needed to run atleast nougat on it (from source), if this'll work then we'll think about Oreo xD

If you're really interested, I'd suggest to look at the Oreo rom of Chrono:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-ace/ace-2-develop/rom-lineageos-15-0-t3678722
and to look at the Chrono Kernel (compatible with janice but with some bugs):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...tom-kernel-t2793420/post74179403#post74179403
Ace II has the same chip of S Advance (with some code differences) and the dev is very helpful to explain how it works.
Two guys in the same project would be better than one guy on a single project.
As far as I know @sm_adil doesn't reply to any PM and Epirex is busy on his Moto phone.

Yes I agree two or more dev contributing to the same project will be good!!
However if you consider me as fully fledged dev you're wrong I'm more of web developer than android or java. I did build couple of kernel's for testing my skills but than again they were not so stable and I didn't had time to debug it!!
So yeah if get the time I do want to build a ROM for Janice :fingers-crossed:
I've got a Janice right here that I don't use. I'm actually looking right now for a way to root it and install whatever superior than the Gingerbread ROM it currently has, but the point is that it's available for testing purposes. Btw, is it possible to leave a phone number here?

Hi Isaak,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S Advance. I have been looking if anyone developing Android Go support for it. Found your post on the thread, https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s-advance/general/android-t3714953/page2
I want to learn how roms are built and I would like to support in developing Android Go rom for S Advance, if possible. Can you please guide me where I can start?
As per my experience, I have built a modified linux kernel with some modified device drivers and was able to boot it with a debian root filesystem on Freescale SabreLite board. But never built an android rom earlier.
Thanks
Srinivas

You could start from one of these tutorials:
https://nathanpfry.com/category/android/
I'm not good at compiling, I tried it and didn't like it. So I can't help you more than that.
For this reason, with the help of some xda users, I have donated a S Advance to @ChronoMonochrome.
Currently he's actively developing a new kernel and a new rom in this section:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s-advance/development
I think we could expect more roms with higher android versions, so your feedback is important.

How can i get started on android custom ROM and kernel development

Hello i have been a long time user of XDA and been installing custom ROMs and mods on all devices i owned and even few devices of my friends. I was amazed how developers make amazing ROMs and kernels for us which work even better than stock almost all the time. I am a college student with a fair bit of programming and linux knowledge but never got around to android development (except making apps which i have done). Can anyone suggest how can I start developing or from where do I start (the little bits) ? I currently own poco x2 and mi A1. Or if there's a good guide to it can anyone link it ? If the developers of Poco x2/k 30 can help guide me to the path of developing it would be amazing.
Thank you in advance ?.
I am no expert on this subject (am ok at searches and found this), may be these are good steps to start:
1. XDA resource - https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/guide-how-to-build-custom-roms-kernel-t3814251
2. Pray , so that more devs will join with you on custom dev for this device.
Edit: BTW, am already praying since we have been able to unlock bootloader.
check here: its already started
collab with others who are already onboard
