[APP][2.2+]GLtools 1.99XDA [Graphic Optimizer][Updated][20-3-16] - Android Apps and Games

GLTOOLS XDA VERSION
Today With permission of the developer of this excellent and very useful app.
If u were using android since the ages of gingerbread u would probably know about Chainfire 3D
And this app is closest to that app.
All the development was done by @n0n3m4 and only him. I am just sharing his beautiful piece of work.
If u can and want to support the dev please consider buying his app from the Play Store.
Play Store Link
What it is (Google Play Description):
-------**** Root and a writable /system partition are required! Please, read the description completely! ****-------
GLTools is a custom OpenGL driver (proxy), that is compatible with any known OpenGLES 2.0-compatible GPU + ARM processor, x86 processors are not supported (Galaxy Tab 3 for example). If you still don't understand, what this app is, the closest known analog is Chainfire3D.
Features list:
- Change resolution and rendering bitness in any app, even if it doesn't support that by default.
- Change GPU name and enjoy enhanced graphics even on a noname low-end GPU.
- Take full control over textures: now you can decompress/recompress them (even if your GPU doesn't support that texture format) and resize. Note that decompression feature is available only if you'll install a plugin (internet is required to do that)
- Optimize shaders on-the-fly for optimal performance (the same optimizer is used in Unity3D engine by default)
- Enable MSAA or CSAA in any app to improve graphics quality (make sure that your GPU supports that)
- Measure gained performance with a nice onscreen FPS counter (or you can output FPS information to Logcat if you are a pro)
GLTools is 100% safe if you have a custom recovery installed (and you didn't disable backup in GLTools install dialog), if you'll find it non-working, you can just flash uninstall_gltools.zip in recovery and email me with details (or request a refund).
Tested on:
- HTC One X
- Nexus 7 2013
- LG G2
Failed on:
- Some Samsung devices (random). The lowest success rate is with SGN3 and SGS4 (thx to Knox). Installing a custom kernel can help, this problem is firmware-related. The same for Lenovo devices.
Legal information:
By using this app, you agree to all the following terms:
User is responsible to make sure that any plugins he uses are legal to use. All texture plugins (except for Default) are written by independent developers and are placed on a 3rd-party webserver (except for Default which is builtin), which has nothing to do with me, a GLTools author, except for that I provide a simple in-app browser to install them (as all we know, browser creators have nothing to do with any abusive Internet content, the same thing here).
User is responsible to make sure that this app won't cause any EULA violation. GLTools is designed for debugging of apps that user is author of, any other usage is not officially supported. Anyway, this app changes system libraries only and doesn't cause any binary modification of 3rd-party apps.
All trademark usage is nominative, nominative usage is Fair Use, it doesn't require any permission from trademark holder. Any trademarks are the property of their owners anyway.
If you think that GLTools itself is illegal, you can always contact me via [email protected]
Source code of used GNU Binutils (assembler, linker, etc) and Busybox can be obtained by writing to [email protected]

Use and Basic Instructions
Use and Basic Instructions:
The App may seem complicated but with a bit of patience u can get it to work nice.
Have u ever felt that your gpu (graphic processor) isnt upto the mark?
Have u ever wanted a tegra game but u have a adreno gpu?
Have u ever encountered Graphical errors such as black objects and .....?
Game running slow but u havent got a game booster?
Want to decrease visual quality for better performance?
Want Chainfire3D to work on jellybean?
All these questions can be answered using this app "Gltools".
It can fake gpu so u can play a tegra(and other gpu) exclusive game on any poorly known GPU's.
U can also fake CPU(havent personally tried it..
U can decrease Visual Quality of a game to increase performance.
U can have an onscreen FPS counter.
And the last few of the many options are some fixes and alternatives.
(Dont be ashamed to point out any critical points I've missed or any errors I've made in my post)
Instructions(Settings are Mainly intended for low end devices):
-Install gltools
(Note: Enable backup option in the app in case something goes wrong. a cwm flashable zip which can uninstall gltools will be formed)
-Open app. then give root access and install tex plugin(and not none otherwise this app wont work how its supposed to)
-Reboot the phone
-Open app. a list of apps installed will come up
-Select ur app(gta 3 for me)
-Check on enable custom setting
-Tick force 16 bit rendering
-Tick optimize glsl shaders
-Set enable texture decomp. to all(to incr quality otherwise set to none)
-Set enable texture recomp. to none
-Set downscale textures to 0.5 and check if it still lags make 0.25x(anything below that will make text unreadable)
-I also faked gpu info though it may not be needed (i did adreno 320)
-In gta 3 display setting i minimised the resolution and draw distance disabled frame limiter
-Now the game is very smooth (textures are blurred and graphics are low)
Please do share ur own config for any game u manage to make smooth (or make it run if it wasnt earlier)
These settings are not always ideal. Do try combinations yourself
That would be all from my side.

The problem isn't your mobile but the game itself
Almost any game multiplayer wud lag much more than single player
After using fakengpu use a template like adreno 320

hey
Awesome!!!
Thanks for sharing bro.
 @T3snake

You know - trouble with gltools is, that with its driver installed, even, if we are NOT using any profiles, it makes 3d choppy on galaxy ace2. Is any bridging/switching method between original and modded .libs possible to implement then?
And one more question: is adding vsync on/off(well, few methods) possible at all?

Good product man, thank you.

In my case There is no difference without a profile.
I have just seen ppl posting that simply installing gltools helped them.
Dont know how it affected but well it might be the older version of gltools (where u didnt uninstall the gltools files)
As for the technical questions u should contact the developer of this app. Hes a nice guy
U can find the contact info in the op

You can set the CPU cores as dynamic hotplug mode, single core mode or fully dual core mode.
This provides easy and simple way to use.
[ Features ]
*Set on boot
Change mode what you selected automatically on boot time.
Menu > Settings
[ Modes ]
*Dynamic Hotplug Mode
Default. Recently, mobile multicore CPUs turn off extra core(s) to save battery life when system is not busy and only use 1 core.
They turn on extra core(s) when system is busy. so system use all cores again.
*Single Core Mode
Use 1 core always. A extra core is shut down. It makes battery life longer but performance is decreased. [ Battery saving, Idle mode, Phone not in use ]
*Dual Core Mode
Use 2 cores always. Performance is increased but battery life is shorter than others. [Example : Zip or Rar Extraction, Photo Editing App Fast Load ]

My Note is flying anyway...
So, i have seen this application and i have a question...What's the meaning of this??I mean...The only reason i can find it usefull is the one core mode that it can battery. But why someone to enable 2 cores all the time??The cores is auto enable when something ''heavy'' running in our device. Why to enable it when otherwise?
If i am wrong please light me up...
Anyway, thank u @tids2k for sharing. You are our researcher...

Benchmark testing, mostly, though it also adds a little "pop" to application launching and UI performance in some situations.

And theoretically 2 cores are more efficient than 1 due to both running at a lower clocked speed than it would with 1 core.

At first I was thinking "right whatever mate" - but then I started thinking ... maybe bad idea?
Are there scenarios where this might be true? I'm not sure of by what order of magnitude power consumption goes up by when increasing clocks but I seem to recall my WinMo phone Xscales had an expoential increase - specifically doubling the speed of the processor quadrupled the power consumption. This could be complete garbage btw, it was a long time ago and everything, and have no bearing at all on ARM processors.

The poster of that comment is simultaneous right and wrong.
If you have a multi-threaded app, it may well run faster and use less power by running two cores at a lower speed. However, for a single threaded app or task, a 2nd core is *never* going to be used, so it would just run slower.
The 2nd Core app is quite clear that running 2 cores all the time is going to hose your battery. However, if you are multitasking many apps, running just 1 core all the time will likely mean that that core has to run at a higher clockspeed all the time in order to cope with demand, and could also hose the battery.

Dave

The thing is I hardly ever get below 50% during a days use (gotta love that Note battery!) so I'm looking forward to seeing what this does. I have the juice to consider it worthwhile.
I've been on it for a week and phone is flying fast. Battery drain is not that bad for me. I for one, love it

Great App
My note is super fast now and battery drain is less along with juice defender...
Fantastic app...keep it up mate
Try to make the home button awake lag less with this app if you can...only request...
Thanks! !!!!

Made by the developer of Return To Castle Wolfestien and QIII4A (Quake 3 port). I have attached a few version's below as not on market yet and hard to download from where it is hosted for free (4PDA), if need any info or bits to make it work please visit this original thread (Link below). Thanks!!
ORIGINAL DOOM3 RUSSIAN FORUM THREAD
Frequent radio transmissions through the player's communications device also add to the atmosphere, by broadcasting certain sounds and messages from non-player characters meant to unsettle the player. Early in the game, during and directly after the event that plunges the base into chaos, the player often hears the sounds of fighting, screaming and dying through their radio transmitter. The ambient sound is extended to the base itself through such things as hissing pipes, footsteps, and occasional jarringly loud noises from machinery or other sources. Often ambient sounds can be heard that resemble deep breathing, unexplained voices and demonic taunting from the game's antagonists.

Demo on a Note2 -
Instructions (Old version please see top of page for Google Store version)
Install
Download version and unzip
Install Apk
Create a folder on your SD cards (diii4a) with a folder named (base) inside that.
Move your Doom 3 pak files (and any other files in your PC's base folder) inside (diii4a>base)
Move folder (gl2progs) contained in this zip to (diii4a>base)
Start the game and have fun!!
NOTE - If RC1 or RC2 don't work for you try the AIC build as that mite. You will also need the PC Doom3 game files to be updated to the newest version 1.3.1 Effect SettingsIn the command line entry on application main page, add these lines on to (game.arm) for less/more lighting effects!! (SCREENSHOTS OFF/ON CLICK HERE)
Full Light Effects = game.arm+set r_nolight 0
No Light Effects = game.arm+set r_nolight 1
NOTE - Having this set on full will impact FPS and you will need a powerfull device for it to work ok on.

I want to try this but I don't have all of the PAK files. I'll see if I can run the Shareware version.
EDIT: I guess I need all of the PAK files, I only have demo00.pak as I don't own the PC Version. Maybe I did something wrong too though since it crashes right after opening, maybe others can help.
I have the game tucked away somewhere (never could get it to run worth a damn on any newer Windows OS) but will it actually run at a decent speed on our Plays?

I assume after a good number of optimizations, yes it should. I'm not making this though. I can't try it because I don't own the game.
Wow that is cool! How does it run?
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
Yeah... How much FPS you are actualy getting from that thing ?
I would do fine with steady 20fps :I
But this is so cool, I remember how amazing it felt to know that in 2007 a Nokia N95 could run Quake 3"@ 20-30 fps! And my pitty N81 could still run QUAKE and Quake 2 regardless the lack of 3D accelration.
Now we are getting DOOM3 for android phones. Hooefully they can port other games running IDtech 4 in the future too (quake 4, Quake wars)
I mean, the Quake 3 port (id3) never ran that well on the Play and the id4 engine is quite a large improvement. I wouldn't imagine it gets more than a solid 10fps but I'd love to hear otherwise!

But as far as I know, Kwaak3/Zeus Arena doesnt have 3D accelration (doesnt take advantage of the GPU). If this DOOM 3 port does, we can expect better performance/GFX ratio.

You may be right since I'm not 100% sure but if I recall correctly Kawaak3 was ported to Windows Mobile and saw much better performance on the Omnia devices since they were the first to my recollection to use dedicated GPU's capable of OpenGL. I believe that would mean Kawaak3 is 3d accelerated but since my memory that far back is a bit fuzzy and I can't find any reliable information online I'd love to hear some second opinions since this could make all the difference in the world if you are right.

Well, to be more precise. GPU is being used but only in a way Q3 originaly utilized GPU's.
meaning that like many old PC games, unmodified IDtech 3 and Quake 3 are very CPU heavy.
Newer IDtech 3 enhanchments put alot of workload to GPU to reduce any bottlenecks. Asuming that Kwaak3/Zeus arena is just a direct HW port it shouldnt have any GPU stressing features.
IDtech4 already has these features there by default so basic porting and optimization should involve full support for GPU
To give some kind of insight to the difference between stock IDtech3 and modified version that uses GPU heavily: 200%-600% performance increase on PC's (2007 and up) is guarantide !
On Xplay I would expect atleast 50%-100% increase if one would enhance that Q3 port.
Im not an expert by any means, just sayan what I have heard and seen.
Sorry for the off- topic noob question but gives gpu- rendering better game performance?

Ofcourse, GPU's are being used for GFX rendering so heavily because they are more efficient in it than CPU's. This bases on their difference in structure and dedication.
-------------------------
Spoiler
CPU is one unit with one or multiple high clockspeed processors. GPU however has one "core" that is relativly slow (clockspeed wise) but it has also alot of "minions" which can share the workload better. Their structure is more appropriate for fast rendering since thats what they were desinged to do.
GPU core can concentrate to GFX rendering with its other essential workers which can do multiple rendering things at once while CPU can throw orders and make sure the game is running properly and everythings behaving like they should.
There is various other stuff in PC world that can ease these tasks, like tessalation unit. If GPU has tessalation unit it basicly enables developer to use low-poly models and then tessalate them to look maybe even better than hand crafted high-poly models. Since tess unit is only being used for tessalation (and displacement mapping I think ?) you should experience performance BOOST since now GPU has to deal with lower poly models while tess unit makes sure those models look better
Xperia Play has only CPU and GPU, nothing super fancy. Only thing I think is noteworthy about Xplay's hardware is the dedicated videomemory. This allows developers to leave more room in RAM department and put most of the models and textures into this dedicated memory.
And anybody who knows this stuff better is free to correct.
--------------------
I made a small test to try if kwaak3/zeus arena is CPU or GPU heavy, it was pretty simple.
I launched Zeus arena and a mod called "Hunt" where you fight againts multiple AI enemys. Their AI is enchanced compared to stock Quake 3.
I was having 40-60 FPS during start up and when going againts ONE enemy my FPS dipped to 4-22, After 3 more enemies appeared and I was shooting them with a chaingun my FPS literaly went to diashow and caused the game to crash
AI calculations are being made by CPU and the FPS drop was so extreme that I doubt GPU had anything going on for the game.
Lets just wait and see, I bet you that DOOM3 port will run decently, after all, integrating multithreading (dual, tripple and quad core) support into any Quake engine is really time consuming and not really worth it so developer has to concentrate into other ways to increase performance
Okay, I will shut up now
Blahhh, I guess I'm going to have to test it when I get a day off. Its a bit of a pain in the ass since I have to clear a good amount of my full SD space but its a pain in the ass in the name of science!
not sure if anybody else has this problem, but http://dante.mobi/ is nolonger reachable for me.

I'm getting an error:
Missing data files. Looking for one of:

I tried copying my base folder of the full version so my external SD in doom3 or internal sd or even in /sdcard/external_sd/doom3
nothing works.

This is a beta at the moment, because I only have a limited device pool and testing the app on friend's phones resulted in some workarounds. The app will be released on Play Store after the beta is over for a few bucks, but I will post new free, full featured and ad free versions here from time to time.

If you want to add a plugin I have created a simple API available at Github. Feel free to message me here on xda, the g+ community or via the in app contact options. I will respond as soon as I can
So if you want to help, test it and if it crashes provide a logcat output of the error and some small description what you have done. Please post issues with the app like unexpected behaviour and last but not least if you find some spelling, grammar etc. mistakes, please post this too (english isn't my native language).
If you have any idea to further improve this app, please post it here too.
Changelog:
Update-1: Fix for devices with a smaller screen than 360dp

Can we have a dark theme on the next update please? I love it as it is but i would like it if it came with a dark theme too
Best app in recent times.
hope addition of much more feature
the app looks great and works great but I would like to use it as a replacement for stweaks.
is it possible to make the program read the costume kernel options like stweaks does?
Thanks for the feedback

hrm. I will have it in my mind but I think that cards with a dark theme are losing the nice and clean look. Maybe a feature if most other stuff is up and running

I'm thinking about a way to add custom kernel tweaks for a long time without just implementing it directly in the app and so removing a potential income for kernel developers.
Tracking down this problem is the number one priority on my to do list.

Some developers are creating own apps to control these parameters. I was working on kernels too (way back in the htc desire and a bit in the Optimus 2x/G2x time) and instead of asking for donation, some developed a app to control these settings. These could buy you a drink for the work and the supporter got a nice app in return.
Implementing it for free would subvert a income for a developer. Ok some devs creating an app for free and don't take donations too. But others not and I don't want to piss anybody off. So I'm thinking about a extremely easy to programm plugin interface (think of it as DashClock extensions). I'm not sure how good it will be possible nor if it's possible at all, but I will work on it and I hope I will find a way.
(Plus it saves me a lot of nerves. Implementing this stuff and testing it on every device with min and max values, possible steps etc. I would call this a pretty severe pita.)
Update 4:
Fixed threading issues
fixed some more force closes
fixed the spinner issue (setting a item without a change by the user)
DashClock extension
Have fun

Im still not getting it. Apps like stweaks and extweaks do exactly what i am talking and are avilable for free in the app store and i dont see any kernel devloper being angry. Also there is no need to implement steps and values since they are all contained in the kernel itself (perhaps in xml format or something close)

Nope. Everything ist hard coded in the apps. Like which values are possible, what is the safe range of a parameter (vibration strength could kill your vibration motor up if bad programmed). There are a huge number of custom parameters in every custom kernel. I could only support selected interfaces on selected devices like trickster mod. I don't want to do this. This is plain pita and I would neglect a huge device base.
Instead I will create a extension which other developers can use and add the parameters with save values etc. This is imo way better than to hardcode everything in one app.

[Q] Anyway to play Nvidia Shield games on our phone? Namely the new Half Life 2?

Is this possible? Would love to try it out. Would I be able to use Market Helper to download it from the Google Play store? Would it even run/work after that point?

Is it in the play store, but only for Nvidia shield devices? If so, you could change your build prop to mimic the shield.
Not sure if we could run HL2 on nexus 5 though. It's a great device, but the shield is pretty powerful.

I can't verify the source but I read someone got portal running using Gltools earlier today. So perhaps give that a whirl? The post was sparsely sourced however so may want to err, *aquire* the apk through other means first then if it runs obviously hit it up on the play store
Post back here if you have any joy!

Hi,
It seems that with the last update of GLTools it's possible to play Half Life 2:

With the last update from playstore, half life 2 is finally working!! The game takes a long time on a black screen before boot and de graphics have some bugs on texture & has some lags on some areas of the game but i think it is fully playable. To control the game i am using a bluetooth controler (ipega 9025)
On my note 3 (snapdragon 800) i have to enable the setting:
Use fake gpu info
Template: tegra 4
Simple mapbuffer emulation
Software VBO emulation
Use packed stencil buffer

Hi,
From the GLTools thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2615514, last page.
But it seems it's not perfect and you need the last version of GLTools (the paid version for now), I have not yet the XDA version from the dev...
thanks! it's good to see that there is actually some progress.
Got to the Menu on a Nexus 5
Just tried out the settings given by sergio_prado using the latest Google Play version of GLTools, selecting the three check boxes (Simple mapbuffer emulation, Software VBO emulation, Use packed stencil buffer) and selecting a custom tegra4 GPU. This allowed me to get the to the main menu and play the game with sound and controls working using an external controller. However most of the textures are black, and in the intro of the game only the light sources seem to be visible, with the part about GMAN being a completely black screen
I have tried messing with all of the settings in GLTools to no avail, and in the most part just making it worse. I have attached a picture of the menu, but then again it is a start

I use a Logitech wireless rumble pad 2, however I believe it uses the standard controller API so should work for any controller.
Well I found out what my problem was. When I installed GLTools, I selected none instead of TEX(DE)coder. Reinstalling it with the texture plugin got it working pretty well, however I too am getting some horrible artifacts, such as objects being visible through walls and repeated textures that move as you walk. I am about to try and reinstall but you having similar problems makes me loose a bit of hope. I am still playing with the settings in GLTools but nothing is fixing it really.
Also getting 6 loading screens when starting the game seems to be normal.
I too am using the franco kernel and ART, so next I am going to try using the stock kernal, and DALVIK to see if there's any change.
However with the right settings, I have managed to get portal working reasonably well, just seems that the phone struggles slightly with the rendering through the portal as the frame rate quickly drops. I guess we cannot expect our non-sheilds to run as well, but it is definitely playable. I will forewarn that the screenshots seem to look a tonne worse than it does on the phone screen. May be non native resolutions or something.
The settings I am using for portal are:
Optimise GLSL Shaders
Enable Texture Decompression - All
Use Fake GPU Info
Tegra 4 Template
Simple MapBuffer Emulation
Software VBO Emultion
Use Packed Stencil Buffer
Half-Float Texture Hack
Decode sRGB
These may be non-optimal and some may be unnecessary, so if you have any recommendations to increase performance please let us know.
Simple MapBuffer Emulation
Software VBO emulation
Use Packed Stencil Buffer
Seems to be the bare minimum to not get the games to crash, but from what I've seen the other options fix a lot of issues.
Finally, not a big thing, but I recommend enabling expanded desktop to hide the soft navigation bar.
So are you guys all using versions of the games from somewhere other than the Play Store?
Anyone able to post the full build.prop from the Shield?

No Ban 99% safe Thanks to Battleye .
PUBG uses Battleye Anti cheat system....
Most of the time, Battleye reports the suspicious user and then suitable action is taken on them according to the game developer policy.
Please note that core functionality of Battleye is dependent on the the kernel level API's of Windows(OS) and Client-Server network.
Some points to note:
1) Due to Battleye Windows kernel level API limitation, Game is not released on Linux(such as Ubuntu etc)... and this functionality is not available on Android OS.
2) Client-Server networking is used for checking abnormal behaviors like speed hacks, unlimited health etc.
Changing graphics is normal behavior. You can also change it from game...
3) Some innocent user is also getting ban for no reason because of Battleye. Even on reddit and discord some user report ban for no reason(Just "Google" it)
4) PUBG mobile policy (about ban for graphics tool) is not updated yet*(Open PUBG mobile 1) Click on settings icon and then Customer service 2) Read Penalties(Directory for rule violations) ) Update: 28th of August,2018)
5) Till now, We haven't receive any ban report from our user...
So on Android it is safe.[/SIZE]
DISCLAIMER: Trilokia Inc. do not deny or confirm that our graphics tools may lead to ban. We will not take responsibility of anything that might happen to your account such as account suspension or account ban.

You might be using the WQHD resolution which is recommended for Tablets. We requested you to use FHD or HD+ resolution on android phones btw thanks for the feedback
Wow ! Thanks a lot development team , I hope this improves the gameplay on my Galaxy S6 . :fingers-crossed:
The app works flawlessly, but as Crankiro previously said, I think there's a bug with the resolution choice because I initially set it to FHD and the HUD has clearly shrank. Then I tried to set it to HD and it came back to regular size.
Lastly, I think it would be really cool (if possible) to add a FPS tracker

thanks, works in my redmi note 4 3 gb ram, tried hd, its says 4-5 gb of ram needed but my phone still able to run it smoothly. thanks.
App works great. The key to getting the perfect display settings is to either tweak all the settings yourself, keeping in mind that one doesn't try pushing the device too hard, or use the "zero lag + battery efficiency" option.
I am using LG G6 H870DS on Oreo, and I can testify that, HD+ resolution could be the perfect balancing point between the highest possible graphics, details, etc, and constant stable 25-35 fps.
However, the game will stutter ever so slightly when a bunch of players spawn, especially during the starting and jumping off the plane.
Great app!
Thank you so much!
Cheers!

Pretty smooth and cap out 40FPS from this setting on my Oneplus 5T. good stuff, thanks op.
edit: one issue though, the "center aim dot color" reset to white color everytime restart the game, any hot fix?
Graphically doesn't change anything, only resolution. If you select HDR graphics, actually it won't apply anything. It even looks worse than HD, which is default on my phone, deletes shadows, even though I set them to max...that's why you get 40 FPS...
I need some proof, because I believe that all what the app does is set graphics to medium with no shadows...
Ps: Galaxy S8+
Example for HDR graphics: you can see the trees when on the plane...
On my 5T, I tried using the 1080p resolution, but ui shrinks. This might be that the 1080p was for 16:9, but mine is 18:9.
