Hello dear readers,
i just stumbled upon a problem with the app "Tasker".
I want to use a task that enables GPS when a specific app is started.
The problem that occurs is that Tasker doesn't even let me implent the option for GPS. If I tick the option to turn on gps I get a popup message that Google changed things like that GPS can not be changed by apps without user input. And if I want to use this option anyways I have to use another ROM, e.g. Cyanogen.
Then i get redirected to the options again.
I dont understand why I get this error message, because I AM using Cyanogenmod.
does anyone have a solution to this?
Thank you!
Seems no one has an answer.... :/

Hey guys I'm having a few issues with my phone and if anyone has had these problems before and have any fixes.
I'm running Cyanogen 2013-02-01 with stock kernel
1. I seem to be having problems with sending mms messages when over wifi. Now with this though, I can perfectly send them over 4g etc. If I happen to turn turn wifi ON I have to go into recovery and wipe the cache and dalvik cache before I can send a mms again over 4g, otherwise it might take a day or three to send the message.
2. Having strange thumbnail previews of pics as you can see in the pic. But this is also going on on my desktop after uploading the photos from say dropbox or anything. This doesnt happen to every photo but it's irritating because it will cover the view of the photo I may want to view.
pic url too: https://www.dropbox.com/s/u7trfxtf2zus4ir/2013-06-16 18.30.42.png
If anyone has any ideas or solutions aside from flashing (personal reasons about backing up) I would really appreciate the help.
Thanks!
Figured I would update the OP;
Partially Solved - The thumbnail icons was partially solved by doing quite a bit more digging and found that I should delete the thumbs.db file in the DCIM folder. I did that and only a few images were fixed. Also the MMS seems to be fixed as I believe it had probably been a bad flash because I did get the time to do my OCD backups and reflash/restore what I needed to so a fresh flash seemed to do the trick for now. Thanks for the info guys!
You cannot send mms over wifi. Mms will always be sent using data. Even if you are on wifi, data needs to be toggled and you will see the 4g icon appear as the message sends even while you're connected to a wifi network

That helps a bit, but I have data still toggled on and still doesn't send. :/

That's weird. Cm7 was always nice to me with Mms as long data was toggled. Have you checked apn settings?

Cyanogenmod uses its own custom messaging app. To restore mms over wifi, you need to flash the stock one. It should be available in the CM7 topic, maybe hellfire phoenix.

I haven't had any types problems regarding data/call/cell etc. So I didn't think of that. I'll double check them.

I should of also mentioned I use the Handcent app for messaging and such and never had this problem before. I remember back in old threads something about mms and wifi being a problem at one point but didnt think that would apply to CM by now. I'll go back and do some searching see if there is a fix.
maybe try the go sms app. and try checking the option for it to handle all your sms stuff. its the option you check if youve uninstalled your stock sms app. because it might just be a bug in the stock sms app.
After using custom ROM for 2 months now I quiet fed up. I have been using mainly Carbon, tried also CM10.1 but I have persistent problems:
- bluetooth handset is pretty much unusable. In 75% of the cases when I connect it the phone freezes. I have to shut it down and start it again. Most of the times I have to repeat the procedure multiple times.
- Poor battery life. I know that Photon Q is not a champion in the battery department but I can not survive a day of periodically synchronizing mail in the background + some browsing + 1h bluetooth audio.
- Application freezing. Touchdown always freezes when I compose a mail for more than a 3 minutes.
- When on bluetooth and listening to music and call comes in, the phone freezes either during the call or after the call has ended
I was hoping when CM10.1 is announced stable there will be no more problems but this didn't happen and now the development is shifted to 10.2 and I don't want to wait any more. After monitoring my phone use for a few days I started to wonder "do I really need a custom ROM"? Hence the thread. Definitely pure stock is not an option and I see here are a few modified ROMS based on the stock but I would like to save myself some time in testing .
What I expect from the stock based ROM is:
- Possibility to hide the buttons! This is absolute must. I can not stand the buttons eating my screen space.
- PIE control (LMT seems to be working quiet nicely although the CARBON PIE is the best)
- CM Themes! I would like to change the battery and clock colours. I have the Android blue colour for the notification bar:silly: Changing the wallpaper and icons is not enough for me.
- longer battery life - one day easily
- stability and reliability - I should be able to trust my phone
- functioning bluetooth
- removal of the Sprint crapware ( I am using GSM moded phone) I guess this can be achieve by uninstalling the corresponding apps.
Could you please recommend a better option than the custom ROM.
Do you have observations and comparison between the custom ROM and the stock in the above topics? Mainly battery life?
Thank you in advance.
P.S. I am very thankful to the developers working on the custom ROMs but I couldn't make it work for my device.
Run stock and theme it to taste.
Sounds like the only option for you.
In my experience all ROMs have their own quarks.
Good Luck
Screwed by Google. Canceled ICS upgrade on my Moto Photon 4G.
Yes the CM 10.2 gives you poor battery life. Compares to my HTC one, Photon Q's battery life is unbearable, even with Mobile data off.

I like ROMS
But you say that you have had all these problems have you checked out the CM roms or others types of roms... so far i think CM is the only one yet to make ROMS for this device you can check only nightly builds ... I just checked yes dev arrrghhh has made the PAC Man ROM for this device just google photon q pac man rom & it will come hope I was able to help.. I''m running Pac man rom on my Fascinate verzion so far I love have all 3 roms in 1 AOKP CM ParanoidAndroid it's best I feel build 8/21/13 Jellybean 4.3
I'm running the latest CM10.1 Skrilax build and it's so stable. I love the option to use sdcard as primary storage. It's been my daily driver since it was released on august 21st.

I'm running stock, but have removed a lot of bloat.
I'll have a look & see if I can find the thread where a member pulls out all the sprint stuff. That's what I followed.
Just need to figure out how to send MMS.

Maybe change the APN settings will solve the MMS problem.

Yeah, it doesn't work. The hidden DATA menu has extra settings for accts & MMS etc. I have changed these, but there is still something else stopping it. Typically need to have the acct number to edit these (although there are other ways).
Its due to the Sprint acct settings, I'm sure.
I CAN receive MMS though.

yeah, but the thing that stock is NOT perfect is the reason why we are using customs...
every roms have their own kink to iron out and we have to bear with them.
In my case, sound volumes of recorded videos are obviously not like them with stock, but I choose to go with CM10.2 just to be on par with other things.
Go SMS Pro allows me to send MMS on stock, so this solves the stock ROM in a round about way for me.
Now to find a custom ROM that will connect to my WiFi ap for my other Q.
Sent from my XT897 using xda app-developers app
To answer my question - definitely stock. The battery life is incomparable to the CM based ROMs. I can easily survive the day and may be have some juice for the morning. No restarts and force closes. I am not afraid any more that I will get a phone call while listening to music on bluetooth headset.
The main disadvantage of the stock for me is the lack of customizations. But with the expose framework and some other apps I am almost at same level as with the custom ROM.
As I am with modded GSM version I just have to find out how to remove the annoying Sprint activation message at each phone start.
Hey there - I have removed a lot of sprint bloat out of stock, and I no longer get the activation request on boot. Can't remember the thread where one of the guys (German I think) listed all the bits to pull out, but you'll find it if you look.

WIFI is now connecting with CM Rom if using WPA2-PSK
Just a quick note to say that I have now resolved the WIFI connectivity with my WiFi AP while running CM Rom (10.2-20131129 by Skrillax).
In a nutshell, after adjusting many settings on my AP (TX power %, Wireless Mode, etc, etc), it is the security mode.
CM don't want to connect when running WPA-PSK. Changing to WPA2-PSK has fixed it.
I get a 'connecting' notify, then 'saved' if I switch back to WPA-PSK. Just don't know if this is due to the recent build, as I was running CM from around June, previously.
Pretty certain I tried the different security modes before, even turning security off didn't help. Manually assigning IP's in the phone also didn't help.
I DID however have the TX power set at 25% when it first connected, but I have reset all settings back to normal/default, & it is still going strong.
You can decide for yourself whether it is better that CM won't connect when using WPA-PSK, for me it has been a pain in the A$$. Stock Rom connected fine on WPA-PSK.
Hope this sheds some light on poss wifi issues for the propeller heads, and other connectivity frustrated individuals. May even help others that suffer dropped connections??
I am using the stock ICS ROM and I am getting 169hrs of standby time.
I use a combination of Tasker and Smart Actions to automate my phone. Tasker controls plugins for Greenify, Secure Settings and Taskill (for some apps)
I am easily getting a full day out of my phone with 60% battery usage. I do use my phone quite often.
The screen brightness and keyboard backlight are the real killers of battery life. Set these to as low as you can handle.
Every time the screen is OFF, my (WiFi, Mobile Data, Bluetooth and GPS) is set OFF.
WiFi is my main data connection when I am near a WiFi spot.
Mobile Data only turns on when I need it.
Bluetooth on when I am charging to connect to my car. Everything gets Greenified on automatic exit of Car Mode
GPS is only set on when I am in the car.
Certain Apps only sync when I turn the screen on, others only when I open them. Even though I can set an interval for this.
When I jump in my car, Car Home V3 is launched with my custom widget setup and plays Spotify Automatically.
With root and xposed framework, Greenify will allow data sync at set intervals. The main thing is it Hibernates all chosen apps and their data usage. Set Tasker to Greenify (hibernate) apps for certain triggers, i.e. Leave home Wifi = Greenify (Hibernate) All Apps.
I also deleted a lot of the Sprint bloatware.
"Better Battery Stats" helped me get to the bottom of my battery draining apps.
I also have a "Battery Graph Widget" installed so I can keep an eye on my levels.
Hello, I am starting a new thread because I have a question that doesn't seem to have been answered despite the suggested threads, which I have perused hoping to find a solution. I would NOT start a new thread if I had noticed someone on XDA solve this problem.
My question is, what happens when you try to connect your Bluetooth to:
A) Do a transfer
B) Tether
or C) enjoy your music
and it disconnects? For some reason, it does this after "Searching..." (when I don't tell it to-does so by itself and turns off after) Although I am zeroing in on 2 files (bt_config.xml and bt_config.old), I believe they could be the problem as they are supposed to open (right?) and will not, and show signs of corruption. I never mess with my "/" directory, ever. I just used ES File Explorer to make the directory writable for a brief period (but not to those files), but now I discovered this issue. I am running CyanogenMod 10.2.0 (was running cm 10.2.1 when this started) now with at least 3 devices that have paired:
My laptop running Windows 7*
A desktop running Linux*
Sony MW-600 headset (no issues here)
*But these pairings have switched between one another in the SAME spot, as if they are one pairing. I will admit I am using the same Bluetooth adapter on both desktop and laptop, but I'd like help on solving this catastrophe without a factory reset (gone thru 4 of them since August 7th, 2013.) which is not an option I'm willing to explore. I'm sure any of the good minds on XDA can pinpoint the issue with all of these details. Just to be sure, I have already:
-Unpaired and repaired devices
-cleared Bluetooth Share's data (org.codeaurora.bluetooth does not have any data to clear, BTW)
-Uninstalled/re-installed Bluetooth drivers on my laptop PC running Windows 7 Pro build 7601 x64.
Anything I missed?

Try do do any transfer with wifi off.
turn bluetooth off and delete /data/misc/bluetooth and /data/misc/bluedroid and reboot

This Bluetooth issue is unnerving. Despite following your advice, Nardholio, and rebooting, I still have issues. WiFi never crossed paths with my Bluetooth once, by the way.
I just want to keep my hotspot invisible to my clients via Bluetooth when I don't want them connected. I do not want to change my password(needless) or hide my SSID (unproductive).
I trust them, but when I don't want them to see or automatically connect, Bluetooth is helpful. Please someone needs to give me a sign in the right direction.

I seriously need an answer and do not like to be ignored. I need help with my ailing Bluetooth. I have followed all advice given on this forum so far. And now I can access my BT_config.XML file. But the /data/misc/Bluetooth directory is empty. And I flipped the hidden file switch. Still nothing. If there are any files you need to better understand this issue, please ask for them. WOW. MIss, we all want help on this forum, but when no one has an answer, sometimes you get no reply. And if you demand an answer, it makes readers even less likely to offer help.
Re-read what you posted and ask yourself if YOU would help a stranger who said that....

Is your issue the same as mine, where activating the bluetooth connection on the SGH-T699 will cause the wifi connection to start cycling in and out? This seems to be a samsung issue on multiple devices.

Might want to mention what you're running. I have the same problem in CM11, and it's always been like that. Wonder if it's CM specific. I don't have problems if I hold the phone flat to my face, but I don't like putting something that's had hands all over onto my face.
Running Pac Rom KK RC3 at the moment.

Please edit /system/build.prop to change 'ro.qc.sdk.audio.fluencetype' from 'fluence' to 'none' and then reboot.
Let me know if it helped.
This change will disable the qcom fluence noise cancellation algorithm (unless 'persist.audio.fluence.voicecall' is set to true as well, but it shouldn't be - you can check the audio properties by 'su', then 'getprop | grep audio' command run from adb shell or terminal emulator on phone).

I'd welcome feedback on this property change (ro.qc.sdk.audio.fluencetype=none) as I'm considering to make it default in CM (if there will be agreement on it between the few moto_msm8960 maintainers).
It really seems to help the voice clarity heard by the remote party on the other end of the phone call in my case, both using my Photon Q and also Razr HD.
Motorola stock sets it to 'none' as well, and I seem to see (hear) the reason for it now...
I've been using it for a little bit - can't confirm precisely yet, I'll have to test a bit longer. Some calls are still having issues I think.
I'm also thinking about going down a few notches with ROM's - just getting a lot of lagging & stoppages with PAC rom KK RC3

This has reached the point where I can call one person (or they call me) 5-6 times, and they can't hear me - using BT or handset mic, but I can call someone else in between & they hear me fine.
Almost like it is a network/service provider compatibility issue - used to be that iPhone's had trouble hearing me, but my wife's iPhone doesn't so that idea was scrapped (yes she has one, but she also has a great ass).
Now running ICS on second handset, and no problems yet. I'll try ICS on first handset in a couple of weeks & see if that fixes the issue.
Its either going to be hardware or software/rom- possibly something to do with managing the call to BT.
The fact that it happens intermittantly on BT or handset mic, even after reboot makes me think software.

It sounds kinda like what I had going on- rocking the volume did seem to help the BT volume/calls sometimes for me also.
Its like the phone doesn't know how to manage the audio/mic.

My other handset running ICS works fine - however there are some annoyances with ICS - stops charging while in car dock etc.
So I've just loaded Carbon onto the original handset (both actually) that was having volume issues, and I will test & report I the volume/mic/BT issues have gone.
Sent from my PHOTON Q using XDA Free mobile app
Carbon is working well, I did have a complaint that the mic was muting again during a call just once - seemed to happen when I changed my grip in the phone - this may have shifted the slider very slightly, so I've swapped out the whole screen/ribbon assy to see if it makes any kind of difference - don't know why it would, possibly a faulty track causing a disturbance.
Have yet to test BT.
Sent from my PHOTON Q using XDA Free mobile app
BT & mic are failing in the same way with Carbon. I've tested long enough & tried a number of variables (headsets etc).
I have tried it on 2 handsets, with full wipe/clean installs.
I'm convinced it is a software issue and is affecting different roms, so at some stage this bug has slipped into the builds unnoticed.

Carbon / PAC / lots of ROM's are heavily based on CM, so if it's affecting CM it usually affects a lot of other ROM's as well.
FIXED!
By going back to JB stock, stripping out unwanted apk's & bloat (sprint etc), and adding some features with xposed framework.
Don't miss any of the fancy vagina stuff either.
