Best ROM rewgarding battery life/performance? - Samsung Galaxy S II Plus

I tried a lot of custom ROMS until now and most of them drained battery, apps crshed and had SOD.
Which one do you think it's best performance-wise? I read a lot about AXXOINKAT

[ROM][4.4.4][UNOFFICIAL]Cyanogenmod 11[M8] +
[kernel][bln]MoshKernel[GPL]
I get 3 days of standby time when not using my phone to listen to music and play games, 2 days with music and games.

Thanks!

It seems I got some sort of glitch with that ROM. Apps keep crashing (messenger, camera, etc).
Any other recommendations?

Axxion + nebula kernel + greenify
Add another launcher if you don't Luke stock one
Sent from my GT-I9105P using XDA Free mobile app

battery life it is about tweaking the rom ... freeze all app that u don't need or use ... disable there startups... lower the light of the screen ... use darker screen pic because of amoled screen when the color is black the pixels they turn off to save battery ... sometimes drain battery to 0 and than charge it at least with 8H even if it charged ....... and there is more good luck

i had cyanogenmod 11 4.4.2 build 9 + moshkernel 1.9.1 + interactive governor => 3 days of normal use
now i have stock 4.2.2 + greenify + moshkernel 1.9.1 + i've removed some system apps + interactive => still 3 days of normal use

[TIPS] Long Lasting Battery.. if battery drain fast

If you face problem with battery.. draining like hell..
then these tips are for you....
1. Battery Calibration
2. Control Apps
3. Device Setting
1. Battery Calibration
Don't use any application..
Just charge your battery till 100%.. (if stuck on 99% for long time.. no problem) just Restart your phone
without remove charger..Important
after restart (battery show 60 to 98%. leave it on charge again till 100% + 2 hrs. more
Then remove from charger & use phone until battery drain to 0% and switch-off itself
Don't recharge between 100 to 0%.. then try to restart at least 3 time.. to sure drain battery completely
now connect your phone to charger.. after 10 minutes start your phone.
but don't remove your charger till battery goes 100%...Important
(sometime it take more than 4-5 hrs. so better in night) When battery goes 100% ...now you done Calibration..
Technically..
on every restart Android reset Battery (by wipe battery status)
So.. on 100% Android make Maximum level - on 0% minimum level
P.S. Do this calibration on every ROM flash or at-least one time a month..
2. Control Apps
Some Application consume battery do much..
i.e. Facebook, Youtube, Maps, Whatsapp, Viber, Yahoo! Mail / Messenger, Skype, Hotmail.com, etc.
so when you don't use these apps (running in background) kill them from
setting > apps > RUNNING click on apps > Stop..
Better use Browser Bookmark instead applications
i.e. Facebook, YouTube, Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo Messenger, Outlook,
It help to save your RAM also..
3. Device Setting
lowest brightness..
lowest screen timeout
Close WiFi if no need
Close Data Conn. if no need.
Close Bluetooth if no need.
Close GPS if no need.
try to use dark backgrounds..
Try these tips then tell me how your battery work

Also you can use, deep sleep battery (free or pro) to reduce the number of screen off wake ups.
this will help you to prolong the battery quite a fair bit.

yep. it does.
i m doing these things before this post and normally i get 2-2.5 days backup of battery.
However ROM is also a factor. my previous rom used to give me 1-1.5 days(1.5 on very less usage.)
but my current rom is giving me atleast 2 days

[Q] LED Doesn't blink when it should

Normally (and on my Galaxy Nexus), I would receive something that would blink the LED, lets say a text.
I would get the LED light blinking (phone's screen is off the whole time) and it would continue to blink until I interacted with the app in some way.
Now on the Nexus 5, I rarely get the LED light blinking at all, even if the screen has never been turned on since what generates the notification.
Does anyone have any clue what might be causing this or if it's just a trait on 4.4 or the Nexus 5 specifically?
The stock LED notification isn't that great. Download an SMS app like Handscent that has a bunch of options for LED notifications.

if you don't like it download lightflow or something similar. Hangouts is not my personal favorite but I use textra for text and it pulses every time i received a message.
I wouldn't say it's not all that great but I did see an improvement with the LED after flashing a custom ROM. In a way I'm happy it's not as intrusive as it could be. Things like lightflow help for customizing other apps to work with your LED but this a huge battery drain. Mines work for texts and other things I need so I'm good without lightflow. Of course this is my user experience which may not be suitable for the next guy.

I have the same issue with (AOKP) and without a custom rom.
Lightflow isn't really an option.
Right now (as I type this), I just got the buzz that I have recieved a text message. I have no light blinking at all.
I was annoyed with this as well and the apps available for LED control were a battery drain as mentioned. I just clashed CM11 on my device and the built-in LED control options are exactly what I wanted. You can change nearly every app's LED color, pulse speed - everything. Custom Color value's - the best way to go!

I don't understand. how is this rubbish? Anything that runs in the background that's NOT apart of the system is a battery drain, especially if it needs to stay awake to work. Which all apps do (stay awake to receive synced messages). Regardless if you notice battery drain or not.

Usually flashing custom ROMs can somehow fix certain bugs. Which is what I subliminally stated in my first post.

Right, and I was just agreeing. Some people don't understand subliminal messages. Using 3rd party apps for something like LED control isn't preferred for me. Native customization is always top of the list.
Lightflow isn't an option for me period. I have apps like K9 mail where each account has a different color.
I need to figure out why the LED isn't working normally.
After seeing it work correctly on my custom setup, more than likely its a minor bug in the stock ROM. Same thing happened to me awhile back on the Evo. Had a little issue, installed a new ROM, problem solved.

The fact LF doesn't even show in my battery stats show how much of a non-issue it is. OK, some might have issues but from my (extensive) experience it's never proven an issue. Each to their own, and yes I agree Google should implement some sort of OEM solution

With all do respect I don't want to turn this into a cat fight but if your knowledge was extensive as you say, which I don't doubt you have any, you would know even if you use a widget from the Play Store and use it on your home screen it will not show in battery stats as "X" Widget. It will show as Display or "Screen On Time". So don't think your screen on time only means the physical time you have your screen on while using your phone. It can be any background app that doesn't sleep. Light Flow which is not a system app has to stay awake in order to do is job. So instead of looking for apps to pop up in battery stats to conclude if app in question is draining battery or not, maybe you should pay more attention to your SOT or Deep Sleep Time.

I have been. My SOT is usually over 4 hours, give or take 10 minutes, and deep sleep is pretty much the same going on the last time I used BBS (which isn't often as I don't have battery issues). This is with the app running the same amount of time as the phone uptime (at this moment, about 40 hours). All this is on a 100% stock Nexus 5, not even rooted.
I agree this isn't meant to be a cat fight, all I'm saying is that LF is NOT a drain on battery if used correctly. Unless I have a magic phone that isn't affected to the same level as everyone else
You'll also see that I do think Google should implement some sort of LED control as part of Android but, as they don't, LF is a perfect app to do the job instead. This is my opinion and I'm entitled to it but you cannot say an app is a "huge battery drain" as a sweeping statement purely based on your own experience. You should know battery life is subjective and will be different for each user. In my case, LF has no noticeable affect on battery life so I would 100% recommend it to anyone wanting to use it (not the OP in this case )
Hopefully we can agree to disagree in this instance and move forward

Why my battery sucks?

Hello Guys!
I have a XT1032. Running the stock Android 4.4.2 Stock from Telcel (Mexico). With unlocked bootloader + Rooted + Cwm Advanced.
Well idk when happen exactly before the battery was amazing 15 hrs form the morning to night with heavy use. Games + Social Networks + Much Photos and more. Then i install the faux kernel with art and later greenify with xposed framework. The phones its very fast but i feel that drain too much battery. I started to tweak it. I try other io scheluders and the latest intelliactive and i notice much lag and appear too much messages of bugreports form the fauxclock. Later to that i install the Bionic/Dalvik patches and well the phone just go faaaaassst. And then more like zombie of battery,
Idk why the battery sucks i get 5 or 6 hrs. On screen of drain like 5% percent on 2 hrs when before was 1% on 8 hrs
Right now i unistall the xposed framework, wipe dalvik and change to ART. And appear more problems first when start appear Google Play Services stop message. And Pushbullet and Motorola Services too. Then i return to Dalvik and now i have much lag.
What do you think is the cause of this? *I will Format and Wipe all on Monday to reinstall from 0 but maybe someone can tell me how to repair this mess :silly:

(8hours) Maximum Battery with NoteIII(Exynos) with Dr.Ketan,Pekaka Kernel and SetCPU.

This is the complete guide for the maximum battery even with power usages.
First of all i am really sorry for my bad English
ROM
Dr. Ketan ROM l21 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2519897
Applications
TW Launcher frozen with titanium backup both TW Home and TW easy mode.
Using Nova Laucher as my primary laucher.''
Usning SnapLock instead of Built in Lockscreen. (set Built in Locksreen to none from the setting).
Uninstall the useless or bloatware apps like group play, google now, g+ samsung store etc.
Greenify
Added all apps to greenify except WhatsApp, viber and Sayhi.
Setting
All air and motion functions are off.
Power saving mode on for 24 hr.
Brightness auto -5
Kernel
This is the important and main part to save more battery recently i found Pekaka kernel for my Note III. Their are many comments about drain and getting device too HOT.
So i decided to play with kernel setting. And install setcpu setting thats work for me like a charms.
So after flashing the kernel do worry about getting device too HOT even with Playing Heavy Games also i have attached the setting for the SetCpu... Match your setting below and let me know if this setting also work for you.
The first three setting are to cool down the device if the device gets to hot, it will automatically scale the processor down to allow it to cool.
The other four are to save battery while the screen is off. This will lock the CPU between these lower frequencies when the screen is off, using less mv, resulting in less battery usage.
Thanks to Dr.Ketan for such a wonderful ROM
Thanks to Pekaka for the Great Kernel for Lollipop
Thabks to the developer of SetCPU app.
Give it try and let me know by your comments if this setting work with you or not.

@satslu Usage over WiFi.
WiFi remain always ON in my device I'm mostly indoor user so never OFF the WiFi even not in Use.
Here. Is New Results according to which you can use Almost 8hours with screen On.
Because this result are estimated from 92% battery not from 100%.
Your screen on time is quite impressive. I was on L21 up until the last few weeks. It was much better than stock TW, but still not what I wanted. I was thinking about switching kernels, but ended up on cm12.1 and couldn't be happier. djmax81 is finishing up a kernel for it that should improve battery, and it is incredibly smooth, even compared to Dr. Ketan's rom.

Discussion about low Standby time on Stock firmware

Hello,
Many of us have issues with the battery standby (or SoT) like most of the rooted user here I have also tried a lot of tricks from disabling CPU cores to removing most of the removable bloat-ware from the original firmware because (while I still was non-rooted user) many times I start the day off charger at 7AM I end up with 3:25 hours SoT and 35% battery at 7PM, then something comes up (like going to the pub) and after 3-4 hours I found my battery at 7-9% without even turning the screen on during that period of time and no clue of what drained the battery.
The idea of this discussion is to track and reveal on what usage (and with which apps) the device is having that specific drain to help non-rooted users find the sweet spot and be helpful for the rooted users.
Also some/all the suggestions in this discussion my not work with your device and ever cause it to misbehave or even hardbrick it if not done with caution and further thinking - experiment on your own risk and no one is responsible for any damages!
What is my daily usage:
Apps: Facebook / Google Play Music / Facebook Messenger / WhatsApp / Viber / SnapChat / Google Chrome / Inbox / Gmail (with POP3)
What I did as non-rooted user:
- Factory Reset
- Stopped using Moto Voice and Double Twist
- Disabled every app that is from Motorola (and it is allowed to be disabled)
- Stopped WiFi scan (not sure because even when turned off the green bar was still visible in the battery graph)
- GPS and NFC are off when not used
note: those changes helped me to get through a day with normal usage and from 7AM to 7PM I end up with 3:35 SoT and 37% battery
Continuing with root:
- Changed the CPU governor from interactive to ondemand (since interactive boosts the clocks at the highest on touch)
- Ultra Kernel (adreno idler does a great job)
note: those changes helped me to get through a day with normal usage and from 7AM to 7PM I end up with 4:10 SoT and 45% battery and until 6.0.1 came out
Yesterday (without the root changes) after some music stream through GPlay Music in the morning after a few hours (~4) my battery was at 60% with 1:50 hours SoT and GPlay Music on the top with 23% battery use and 2 hours later the battery drop on 11% with 2:45 hours SoT and GPlay Music with 6hours CPU use. The only difference with the other days and yesterday was using the MicroSD card as cache for streamed music (note that the card is class 4)
So sometimes could be the MicroSD card('s slow speed) to blame or maybe the Google Play Music App itself.
Suggestions for root user are welcomed too like CPU Tweaks, Removing unnecessary apps, etc. and will be separated from the non-root suggestions
For replay with suggestions please use the following form
What is my daily usage:

note: [please add a note or screenshot from the battery using the [ HIDE ] tag

note: [please add a note or screenshot from the battery using the [ HIDE ] tag
I really hope to make some good discussion about tweaking the Standby time (SoT) on the stock firmware 6.0.1.
*reserved*
NON-ROOT
- Factory reset and start from scratch (do not do restore)
- Stop using Moto Voice and Double Twist
- Disable all the apps from Motorola and others that you don't use (and it is allowed to be disabled)
- Stop WiFi scan (not sure because even when turned off the green bar was still visible in the battery graph)
- GPS and NFC should off when not used

ROOT
- Changing the CPU governor from interactive to ondemand (since interactive boosts the clocks at the highest on touch)
- Installing custom kernel
* Squid Kernel
* Ultra Kernel (Squid Kernel plus a few tweaks like "Adreno idler" which does a great job in low graphic environment)
@Sickaxis79
When using squids kernel with the lionfish governor you can reach 8 hours with light usage, but its not as smooth as the interactive governor.

First of all STOP USING GMAIL AND PLAY MUSIC
Gmail is a big culprit when it comes to stand by time ... so is play music ... ( i have disabled both )
Use Typemail ( it works without Sync on ) and any other music player of your choice
also Use Greenify to hibernate apps which you usually don't use ...also you can select ur music apps in those list ....
I am Non Rooted btw
Facebook app is known for major battery drainer
Actually Facebook is not much of a battery drainer now.... Tested and tried...
Yes it does eat a lot of RAM

I can confirm that too! A month since Google Chrome added the API to get notifications Facebook started to drain less and less battery with every update.
Even with all day use of the APP it still does not go over 8-9% battery consumption
Since I flashed stock 6.0.1 and previous 6.0 for my MXP the battery life was superb. About 6-8 h sot with above 30-40h+ of overall usage. My settings are with power saving in mind though.

Woke up at 4:30 AM. Turned off wifi and turned on mobile data. Have used about 30 minutes of web browsing using chrome Beta. Im at work so phone is in my pocket mostly. It is now 10:30 am (6 hours later) and I lost 5 %.

Personally I don't get enough important emails to leave sync on auto mode. Created a quick toggle using power toggle and I synch on a needed basis with a simple click. Today I was on the road (working) and I turned mobile data on at 4:30 am and just turned it off @ 7:00 pm. During that time I browsed internet incl Facebook, used maps GPS, streamed a little music to car with Google music, checked email with Gmail, updated apps from play store... For a Total screen time over 3 hours on a 15 hour span (mobile). Right now 72% battery left to go.

Only thing I really notice is adguard using more juice on mobile vs. WiFi but it still helps otherwise
Did you guys disabled moto apps or any app?
When I was stock I did all the usual battery saving tricks and I would get between 4 and 6 hours sot by the time I hit 15% battery.
Now with root and squid kernel I noticed that battery drains a bit faster but setting the min core frequency as low as it can go helps as well as greenify. I still get my 4 to 6 hours by the time I hit 15% battery. Im on stock 6.0 marshmallow before and after rooting. After rooting the phone I Uninstalled some Google Apps but kept all the Moto apps.
My usage is like this:chrome, whatsapp, typemail , Gmail, poweramp(music player), youtube(a lot of youtube)
On the weekend its completely different story. I spend the whole day on YouTube, playing games and watching offline video files. With that usage I get 3 to 3.5 hours sot by the time I hit 15%
Its normal to only have 3 hours sot playing games.Brightness is the best battery saver and disabling or greenify all the google crap also helps a little.Mostly I have around 6/7hours sot using wifi and browsing the internet around 30/40% brightness. When using squids kernel with the lionfish governor you can reach 8 hours with light usage, but its not as smooth as the interactive governor. If you like a snappy and smooth device with a good sot (6/7 hours) you can tweak the interactive governor. I flashed squids r16 kernel and tweaked the interactive governor with kernel adiutor so that the big cores only kicks in when needed with no lost of performance and great battery life. It just depends on how you use your phone and how you tweak with the kernel settings.
Is it safe to disable 'Apps usage' access of Moto care ?

I have never seen such a device with so conflitcing problems amongst users in what concerns battery life. Simply amazing... -.- i can't decide if i am a heavy user, and the battery does indeed drains a lot or if my phone has problems.
I havent rooted yet.
I have:
- disabled moto apps and Google apps + Google search(with adb)
- changed dpi(adb)
- the same thing before.

Can you share with me the governor tunables you changed for getting better battery life in interactive governor?

It's definitely an app issue. I uninstalled tapatalk because it would drain the phone like stupid. GMail (with 3 email accounts) doesn't seem so bad. I also use Whatsapp and Skype, so those aren't too bad either. Also use Play music (as offline mp3 player basically) so that's not it, either. From your list, facebook and snapchat look like they may sync too much and drain the phone. Have you analyzed your battery usage with gsam battery or similar?
I think the best app to analyse your battery drain in standby mode is this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.WazaBe.android.BatteryDrain
I use it for several years. It does not cause any drain and allows me to see if I lost too much battery during the night.
For example, with Moto X Play, I'm at -0.3% /hour with wifi enabled (and connected), 4G, bluetooth, location services, auto-sync, no exposed, but with CM13.
On Moto G3, it's the same (-0.3%/h), except Moto G3 has smaller battery. I expected more for Moto X Play, but it's still very good compared to other smartphones (Galaxy S4 for example).

Sure, but first before you apply these settings i can advice you to read this awesome guide first.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/general/guide-advanced-interactive-governor-t3269557
Im studying this guide for a few days and learned a lot from it.It teaches you how to calculate your min and max target loads which you need later to tweak the interactive governor. Im still learning , but i never knew interactive governor was so higly tweakable. If you understand all of this guide you can tweak your kernel just how you like it. Its a universal guide with examples for the nexus 5 and 6 and the most useful guide i have found so far about this governor.
I have the big cpu's tweaked so it stays at 200mhz and ramps up when needed. This are the settings i used and they work nice so far, but remember im still learning
Im using squid r16 kernel with stock rom 6.0.1.
Cpu max freq i use is 1708mhz and minimal is 200mhz.
Enter the next values into the cpu governor tunables for the big cores.
above hispeed delay 20000
align windows 1

boostpulse duration 80000
go highspeed load 99
hispeed freq 345600
