[Q] OTA Failure for 4.4.2 Kit Kat - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I have a SCH I535 S3 on Verizon
Build: JS5VRUCNC1S15J.I53
Android 4.3
I535VRUCNC1
It is rooted using a method i found on XDA, but I do not remember the exact method details.
I received the OTA offer about a month ago and all attempts to get it to install have failed.
What I have tried:
*1. Full phone reset then OTA attempt
*2. Wipes cache then OTA attempt
I searched all over for manual updates but a lot of the sites seem sketchy. *If the seem ok, the download links don't work.
Should I unroot next?

Yes you must be completely stock to take the ota. If all else fails there is always odin

There's a log file that you can look at to see why the update is failing. I used this to find out why my phone wasn't updating... and it was because I had a frozen app (Amazon Books). I restored that app, and the update took place. You simply need to look at (or post) the log from the update. Alternatively, you can always ODIN as mentioned above.

[Q] Multiple GSIII's fail to install OTA

Hi, my family has multiple Verizon Galaxy SIIIs that were supposed to receive OTA updates about a week ago, but for whatever reason, as I cannot pinpoint the exact cause, none of them will install the update.
Each phone has:
Been rooted, by means of flashing a custom stock ROM through Odin
Had numerous stock applications frozen with Titanium, but we've tried unfreezing all of them prior to trying again with no effect
So I'm assuming it's that the phone's rooted. Is there any way to apply the update manually without unlocking the bootloader (ie. using the stock recovery or Odin to flash the update) and still have the possibility of keeping root?
Yes, the entire updated rom's are available in the development section. The latest being the vrlhd.

I had to Odin back to stock and go get a new SIM card from Verizon... Got the OTA instantly after the new sim was put in... It's a known issue

Mm, checked those out, and scrosler says that the bootloader needs to be unlocked, and doesn't provide any other information on how to flash it properly (Odin vs. custom recovery). Though if it's stock, it shouldn't matter...
I odin'd back to root66 and it took the update as soon as i checked for it. (and I dont even live in Verizon coverage)

[Q] Honeycomb to Jellybean problems - country registration

I have a Galaxy 7.7 6810 (originally purchased from Hong Kong) and a few weeks ago, I tried to go from ICS 4.0.3 to Jellybean using OTA. Unfortunately, I had forgotten that I was rooted and the OTA would not install. I then tried using Odin to flash Bodivas 4.1.2 and totally screwed up. Odin would not complete the installation - stuck somewhere in the process and I couldn't figure out how to safely get out. Soft brick! I finally (several days later) managed to get back to stock 3.2 using Odin 3 version 1.85. I ended up with build "HTJ85B P6810XXLB4, which seems to work just fine, but now I would like to get back up to JB. I was hoping that I could do OTA, as I'm not rooted right now, but I can't get past the registration page from Samsung. It asks for my country and by now I've tried many of the countries on the list and always get the message "Registration failed." The problem must be due to my build version.
Any suggestions for what I need to do in order to get Samsung to recognize my 6810 so that I can get the OTA update? I'm reluctant to try Odin again because of what happened last time, although I guess I can root and then try Mobile Odin this time around.
Sorry this is so long.

OTA Update after rooting Tab 4 7.0 T230NU! (Stock)

Trying to update after rooting the device and this is what you are met with. I remember with older devices you could still update even though it broke root, and you would have to reroot. Which what I was hoping to do. Apparently they have figured out how to block you now. Especially since I can never get Kies to work right.
Only way I found to bring otas back is to uninstall supersu, odin flash stock Rom, and try again
Dude download xposed module and download Wanamaker kit to trick the system thinking it's still official. I tried this with and twrp couldn't install the latest version. If you are still on stock recovery good for you

Not having any luck... (possible brick!)

So I've hesitated flashing my Sprint Note Edge simply because (and no disrespect to those that have been working hard) I was waiting on more development... but after receiving the 5.1.1 OTA update I wanted to revert back to kitkat... so I did some research and found all the files I needed to root (as well as the 5.0.1 stock firmware just in case that didn't work)... it rooted fine(I think) but when I went to add the SU superuser zip (through CMW) my Edge froze at the bootloader screen and won't go any further... I tried reinstalling the stock firmware tar. through odin but I keep getting the expected "fail"... I'm thinking my only option is to find a ROM small enough to fit on my sd card (240mb) and try to flash through cmw... but I'm not having any luck... ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!
I am in a similar boat here I think we need a stock odin before we can fix this so far no luck finding one on my end (
Same here too m8, on my Sprint SM-N915P. I was on 5.0.1 then upgraded OTA to 5.1.1, but had issues rooting, tried to revert to 5.0.1 thru Odin, ended with FAIL error. Initially, had the message "[aboot] Fused 4 > Binary 2". Did some digging, and now I believe my only option is to wait for the official Sprint 5.1.1 TAR or MD5 to be released or get a PIT file from someone on the 5.0.1.
Today i'll try to reflash original recovery from CF-AutoRoot's md5, so the stock "Firmware Upgrade Error...in KIES" pops up at boot, and take it to a Sprint shop, hoping for help...
That sucks! Well keep me posted on your progress....
Is it a bootloader issue or incompatibility between 5.1.1 and 5.0.1 that prevents flashing?

Unable to Install 5.1.1 OTA Update for Verizon SM-P905V

I was able to install the first of the two updates earlier for the 5.1.1 update on my Verizon Galaxy Note Pro 12.2. The second downloads, prompts for install, reboots and begins installing but errors out and reboots back into the OS home screen. The Verizon software update manager shows Failed software update error code 402. I have factory reset my tablet a couple of times and still same issue. I do not have my tablet rooted and no apps disabled.
I downloaded the latest available Samsung firmware md5 file, version VZW-P905VVRUANK1-20141205133604 and tried flashing using Odin 3.07 while in download mode. It starts and after a few seconds, Odin fails and on the tablet screen, I get the error, SW REV CHECK FAIL : [aboot]Fused 2 > Binary 1. I have re-downloaded the firmware along with older versions and still same issue.
I was reading somewhere that my tablet could be "soft bricked" and that is why it will not install the second part of the OTA. As for the Odin/download mode error, I had read that the firmware version I am trying to flash in Odin has an older version of bootloader than my current and Samsung does not let you downgrade the bootloader. I may be wrong on both accounts, which is why I am seeing if anyone else has had this same issue or have any advice on what I can try.
Thanks in advance!
Same here. I unforze all the apps unintstalled SU and factory reset still no dice. VZW repair assistant wont work or smart switch. RA says device firmware not supported and smart switch says im up to date. The first part of the update installed no problem.

I had the exact same issues. Here's what I did with my 4.4.2 Rooted NP. I wiped it completely from within the device, then connected it and to the VZW software and let it do a "Repair". After that, my tablet also said that it was up to date, still on 4.4.2. I let it sit overnight and tried downloading the software update the next morning from the tablet, and it took both of them. My NP is rocking 5.1.1. now, much faster. No root but that's alright for now. By running the repair assistant from VZW, it also got rid of the Unlocked Symbol, which may have prevented the upgrade in the first place.

I was able to get mine to update using ODIN and the firmware file from sammoble. Factory reset on the tablet, factory reset in recovery and finally ODIN worked.
I was having the same problems as the OP listed. Once I decided to live without root and I would be okay with wiping the tablet, I performed exactly what dansto82 said he did and I'm now on 5.1.1.
Now hoping someone comes up with a way to root.
Hey, I have the p905v and it is running 4.4.4, I rooted it with towelroot and it was completely fine. I then tried putting twrp recovery on it the wrong way through flashify and now I don't have a recovery mode and can't update it to 5.1.1. Other than that the tablet runs perfectly fine. Is there a way I can fix it?
