On the stock Motorola camera app, we have the option to take HDR pics. However, when I installed the newer google camera app the HDR option is gone. Anyone know why? Is it possible to get it back?
It's only available for certain phones and the xt926 isn't one of them.

It never was available in the Google camera that I know of for this phone. That's one of the reasons I never made it my daily camera and continued to use the stock camera.
It's still there in the stock camera from Motorola.

How do you install the "stock Motorola camera" in CM? Is there an APK or flashable zip? I know there is the moto camera on the playstore, but I think it shows our HDs as "incompatible"..

I haven't tried it yet, but it may be possible to side load it from our Stock rom. Just have to find the app file with root explorer, save it to SD, and then try and drag it into the app folder.

You can't right now AFAIK. It requires too many non-AOSP components (in other words, Motorola components like gallery and others). I supposed you could copy the stock APKs out of a stock image flashed on your phone for both the camera and gallery APKs and then in CM, copy these to the /system/app directory, reboot and see what happens. Worse that will happen is they won't work. But, I'm pretty sure they are compiled against other "libraries" that are not in the AOSP image which is what CM11 is compiled off of.

Now you have me confused - didn't you say you utilize stock motorola as your daily camera? How do you do that when running CM11 then?
Don't tell me you are flashing back and forth when you want to take a picture or did I just mix things up here?
I found this thread in the meantime - will try once I get home from work:

Sorry about that. That was when I wasn't on CM11 but on stock. Now that I'm on CM11, I've been searching around for HD cameras from the Play store. One that I'm currently looking at is called "A Better Camera" which has HD mode built in. It's free and if you want other add ons, you can purchase them piece by piece (more controls for HDR colors, high resolution panorama - you already get panaroma mode but not in HDR, group shots, moving objects, etc). For $6.99, you can unlock all those premium features forever or purchase the ones you want for $2.99 a piece if you only a want one or two of them.
So far, seems to be a pretty good camera and just out of the box for free, it offers a whole lot of options that most other cameras would require you to purchase.
Once really nice feature I like about this camera is it does allow you to specify to save your photos to your external SD card and it works under CM11.
Speaking of cameras, I've noticed that the quality of the images I take using cm11 are very noticeably inferior to the stock kit kat images. Is that an OS issue, or the camera app that's installed? I'm using the stock Google camera.

I have no proof for it and my stock days are already a year back, but I swear that any custom rom introduces a "purple haze" to the center of my lense and I also subjectively consider the stock camera quality better.. now for a snap here and there it is ok and never bothered me enough to go back to stock, but I think it is noticeable. I think one chap also posted factual comparison between stock and AOSP.
Probably Motorola knows better how to tweak their camera or whatever.. I don't know.

So, I recently flashed up to Android 4.0.4 from 2.2, and all is well, except I liked the previous system Camera app more. More settings, more digital zoom, et cetera, et cetera. I just want my old camera back. I was happier.
I did some searching, and found out that people think it would be difficult to do (would take some decompiling and such) and still may not work, but as far as I can tell, no one's actually tried.
Does anyone have any more information for me on how to go about getting the Froyo camera on ICS? I can get a hold of the two camera APKs. I just don't know what to do from there. Someone dropped a big hint in this thread, but that's still not enough information for me to go and try this myself if no one has already.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Have you tried any free camera apps from the Play store to see if they might fill your need?
It would be extremely difficult as it has twframework dependencies...something that is not available on any aosp/aokp rom...I'm not saying its impossible but it would take an experienced app and/or moder to get the job done...it would be cool to have a stock like ics rom but unfortunately there is no source for that...only for aosp...I've tried porting stock Samsung Roms in the past but was never really successful I think one time I got one to boot but after days of constant work I didn't get any farther...it was unuseable cause everything would force close...most likely due to missing libs that we don't have available
Also...they are system apks from two different os so compatibility will also play a roll in it

I was afraid it was as difficult as I've been reading. Sounds like so.
The biggest thing I miss is the zoom. With 4x zoom, even though just digital, I was able to take macro shots of textbooks all the time. I just bought (and returned)... what was it called, Camera Zoom FX. It did give me 6x zoom as promised, but it couldn't autofocus whatsoever.
The camera in this phone is capable of doing what I did most with it, taking photos of texts. But it seems the only app that allowed it to do so was on Froyo.
Do you think there'd be a way to hack the ICS camera app to supply more zoom?

Same thinking regarding porting 4.0.3 Camera as in Karbon A18 to my Micromax A100 Canvas which is having 4.0.4 ICS .The 4.0.3 have good autofocus and facedetection but the 4.0.4 is stock dumb crap. looking forward with you..

Yeh I have the same rom as you CM9 R8 and to me the image on the screen isnt as clear but when you take a pic it seems the resolution turns out better than you expected. I also noticed that the camera button on the side of your phone doesnt work which is lame I really liked using that for picture taking it was handy but oh well cant be perfect for a rom. If you want also do what I did, I just downloaded other camera and video apps. Way better than the stock app and on the screen they show up as better resolution than the stock app
Yeah, unfortunately the camera apps that come with CM/AOKP ROMs are very lacking on this phone, compared to the stock camera app. There are some third-party apps that do reasonably well, though. I like Camera360.

The black bars on the side is because the phone has a 16x9 screen but the picture is being taken in the 4:3 ratio. It's the same thing as watching an old tv show on a new widescreen tv.
Talking about our camera, has anyone figured out a way to port our camera to Cyanogen? That's the only thing that's stopping me from flashing a Rom, considering I've had this phone for a year.

Well I'm running the RemICS_UX port from the HD2. Not bad of a rom. It's over samsungized but I'll find a theme for it. It claims to have the 1080p recording so lets see how that works out.
I personally don't care for all the "features" of the stock CAMERA app since I can always download a 3rd party app that will be on par. I only use night mode, macro and automatic. My main concern is 1080p recording (and that the mic doesn't sound so crappy).

I believe the 1080 not working has more to do with HTC Android drivers for the camera, rather than the available choice in the software.

Yeah, trying to record in 1080 makes the button useless. I'm starting to feel that the phone doesn't have real 1080p feature. My last phone was a Huawei Comet/U8150 and I had a very similar issue with the camera. Turned out that the phone had a 2.0 megapixel camera that was made to look like a 3.0 by the stock software. It was a sorry excuse of a camera.
I'm going to have to think about this one. I wonder if we could somehow port or rewrite a code to get 1080p working. Sadly, I know nothing about android development. My main thought was to sit the htc camera apk on top of cyanogen but I've read up that it's not that simple.... which I find weird considering someone has the beats by dre stuff on their mytouch4g slide rom.
Its not to complicated to understand but it is to fix. You see it does have true 1080 recording and it still one of the best cellphone cameras to date. Thing is if you want to run a custom ROM that is not based of the original T-Mobile release then some things may not be the same, the camera being one.
Unless you can get ahold of the proprietary camera drivers or write you're own you will be missing much of what is available. And any app based off the HTC framework will not work of different, such as cyanogen or even aosp.
Even phones that have been nearly torn apart by some super smart people doesn't mean that everything imaginable is possible or at least not easy. Try running sense on a Samsung phone, not too easy. Just saying be happy for what you have unless you know a sneaky backdoor to these issues that no one has thought of yet

I finally jumped ship from stock and ended up on the Droid Kang ROM. I'm liking it quite a lot, but two issues with the camera that I didn't have before:
- Is there any way to make the volume keys take a picture?
- Face detection isn't enabled anymore (which links to focus and exposure)
Is there an option somewhere that I'm missing? Or a camera apk update that I could do?
Thanks in advance!

I doubt AOSP will be able to make the Duo Camera work. So, no special effects like focusing on different parts and other junk like that.
Might as well stick with Sense 6. It seems to be working very well so far.

HTC wants 3rd party development on the camera. They released an SDK. That may help.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/htc-releases-dual-lens-sdk-for-the-htc-one-m8-2014/
My issues with sense revolves around the lockscreen and how it handles notification sounds.
With sense in place dashclock, which I prefer, I can't replace the stock lockscreen. Even using AOSP lock screen on Viper is not optimal since my tasker script does not allow me to situationally disable/reenable the lock screen.
There seems to be an issue on how sense handles notifications. I use a third party app to give me situational sound profiles, similar to what is offered in CM. When using it with sense I don't get reliable results. The built in sound profiles in sense aren't flexible enough.
Maybe I've just been using AOSP too long but I find sense too restrictive for how I use my phone.

I actually LIKE Sense (and completely agree about TouchWiz.) I have liked Sense back to the earliest versions but CyanogenMod has been my daily driver for a very long time. I am delighted to see Invisiblek is on the M8 project, I hope CM will be here soon and I'll be switching ROMs as I did with my Galaxy S3 and S4, running CyanogenMod until a problem shows up in a nightly and then switching back to Andybone's most excellent Bonestock ROM until CM gets fixed again. Eventually, CM became perfect (for me) on the Galaxy phones and I could stop switching and I know that's what will happen with the M8.

"Frankly, it'd be silly to have extra hardware on a phone that's completely unusable, so the Google Play edition will still take advantage of the Duo Camera functionality. Predictably, the app itself is the stock Google version, but the HTC magic comes out as soon as you enter the Photos app and try editing your shots. You'll be prompted to open up "HTC Photo Edit," and you'll see a screen that looks much like what you'd find in the Sense gallery, but with fewer options: UFocus, Dimension Plus and Touch Up are the only Duo Camera-esque effects listed, which means the Foregrounder, Seasons and Copy/Paste functions didn't make the cut. (Filters, frames and tools are still hanging out on the right sidebar.) UFocus is our favorite of the Duo Camera options, so we're glad to see it there, but Dimension Plus is a useless and gimmicky feature that we just don't use very often."

If you're still looking for it, I'm using Mi2Raw Camera app for capturing RAW photos on my G2 with OptimusG3 ROM. It works great, you can also manually focus by tapping the screen or adjust the exposure. But the app itself still needs some work... I'm not sure if it's going to work on the G3, but you can try it as it works on G3-based ROMs.

I hope somebody from developers will find solution for that big issue for all G3 ussers, because a lot of people buy that model because of good camera.

I have tried the app you had posted, but it seems like it does not work on LG G3, it showed me a message that "This app only works for LG G2, Xiaomi..." and some other phones.
I am now runing the AN HD ROM, because I had some troubles with the CM12 ROM - battery drain, heating up and my camera wasnt working at all (FC, camera freezed after taking pic with flash and the quality of the pics were really poor).
Thanks for the tips, tho.

sorry for being so late, here it is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2540030
G3 doesnt support exposuretime and manual shutter.
Also manual focus is broken with l.
With l the camparameters returns exposuretime but its ignored when setting it to the cam.
That means for camera2 the g3 will stay as legacy device and will not have manual settings and dng support. We have to wait for the g4 to get full camera2 support. These are just my thoughts because i know that lg not cares about adding new features to old devices....

Thanks, but it doesn't work with ART. I'm trying to get it to work on my Nexus 6 but I'll must stock with the Google camera for now.
But it is software thing, not hardware.
Caute cesi
Just want to ask, is it possible to shoot RAW on G3 with lolipoop? Have G3 support for camera API 2.0? Is it any change to find it out? Im using Mi2RAW but I will miss it on A5.0.
Try this (Open Camera) on CM 5.0
Very nice Camera n alot of setting good luck .
I wonder if anyone managed to get camera quality as god as stock roms :/ The camera is the only thing keeping me away from AOSP Roms...
