Sim-lock question - Optimus One, P500, V Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys
I believe that it's time to end my p500 life and move for another device! And i have a question that I asked many times in many threads on xda but I had no answer. I hope you guys can help me. So, the question is : does rooting, factory reset, installing custom ROMs lock back an unlocked phone. I mean if I unlock my phone using code and then root it etc.. Will it be locked again?

I have not tried myself, because I never had to do this stuff. But I think, rooting has nothing to do with sim lock/unlock, its just about adding a su binary to your phone. However, factory reset and custom ROM might lock it back. But i dont think you need to worry about it, because you can again unlock it using the same code method.

Sorry, for my lack of information. I told you that I dont have the experience myself. But according to this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34339504&postcount=7 you dont have to worry about unlocking again, once you unlock the phone in stock ROM, because it will remain unlocked even after flashing custom ROMs

The P500 doesn't have a locked bootloader like the newer Optimus devices, however it does have a carrier lock. Once any device is unlocked from a specific carrier the device remains unlocked no matter what ROM gets flashed to the device. You could flash CM or AOKP and then back to stock if you wanted and the carrier lock would remain unlocked. All the carrier lock does it tie that device to a specific service provider ( AT&T, T-Mobile, etc. ). Once unlocked, since the P500 is a GSM device I believe, then that device can be used with any service provider that also utilizes a GSM network.
The reason carrier unlocking must be done from a stock ROM is the fact that any custom ROM won't have access to the devices hidden menu. The hidden menu can only be accessed thru the stock dialer app on a stock ROM. And the carrier unlock procedure is done via the LG hidden menu.

[Q] Will Rooting and flashing rom undo my unlock?

Hey I have an Inspire 4G that has been unlocked and I am using it on T-Mobile. I want to root and flash a new rom but I don't want to loose my unlock. SO my question is.... Will rooting and flashing a custom rom undo my unlock?
Thanks in advance!
I am not 100% shure but I have no clue how could flashing a CUSTOM rom undo a unlock. Could only CAUSE an unlock... (not shure on that as well)

The rooting process also SIM unlocks the device. You will still be unlocked after a successful root

Thank you! Rooting and Gingerbreading my device now!
I just want to confirm that rooting and flashing a custom rom will not undo your unlock! In fact I have been getting better signal with t-mobile since the root and rom!
I go through phones on a weekly basis but I have to say that this phone is awesome! I think it may stay with me for a while.

A newb unlock question

I recently got a htc inspire 4g already rooted with ace hack kit flashed to a cyanogenmod rom, I would like to unlock and remove any personal data from the phone from the person I bought it from, but I would prefer not to lose root to delete their info. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

Android ver 2.3.4
Do a full wipe and reflash the rom or a different rom.

By full wipe you mean settings>privacy>factory data reset?
Also is there a particular rom to flash to, to unlock? I would like to unlock and then go back to my current rom.
Sorry, I'm pretty much android retarded at the moment, and I don't want to screw anything up.
Please post in the proper section, Q&A.

If it is rooted with s-off which it is, then it is unlocked. To flash a rom use the guide that is stickied.

Sorry for the misplaced post.
I put in an old t-mobile sim and I didn't receive service or a prompt to enter an unlock code. I'm not sure whether its because the sim is old and hasnt had service for more than a year.

It is, in fact, very difficult to re-lock an unlocked inspire. Any of the myriad custom ROMs are already setup for root and won't relock your phone. Try a few custom ROMs from the dev section--heck, try a few a day--you're unlocked! Have fun.
I borrowed a valid t-mobile sim, it is unlocked. About to try out a few different ROM's. Thanks everyone.

Root vs Unlock code ?

Hi buddy's
Today got my skyrocket, im moving from a Galaxy Ace and found (im foreing) that i need an unlock code to use it (crap).
I got my code, its working ..my question is: if i root the phone or flash any other rom..
1- Will need to buy another code? At every flash i do ?
2- Or can use my code to unlock it forever in this device even flashing ?
3- why is needed a code? Which is the difference or utility in this?
Thank you guys, hope you can help me out of this because i want to start to develop in the forum and share amazing stuff

flashing roms should not relock your phone but if it does your unlock code should work to unlock it again.

[Q] After I Unlock the bootloader and root my SGS3, can I still use it normal

I just wanna root it so I can delete all the bloatware but I'm afraid my phone will not reconize the service of verizon wireless since I'm unlocking the bootloader. I just wanna know, if I unlock my bootloader, can I still place phone calls, text, and use data like if nothing ever happened

I just did mine, and had a t-mobile s3 also rooted and unlocked. They still work like they did before they were unlocked / rooted

lol thank you, i'm not new to rooting or unlocking bootloaders from virgin mobile but I am new on unlocking bootloaders from verizon so thanks
Bootloaders shouldn't affect service at all. Its not like a radio or anything. Also for clarification, in order to flash anything at all the bootloader has to be unlocked. Everyone on this forum has unlocked at some point.
