I recently got a htc inspire 4g already rooted with ace hack kit flashed to a cyanogenmod rom, I would like to unlock and remove any personal data from the phone from the person I bought it from, but I would prefer not to lose root to delete their info. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks
Htc Inspire 4g
Android ver 2.3.4
Do a full wipe and reflash the rom or a different rom.

By full wipe you mean settings>privacy>factory data reset?
Also is there a particular rom to flash to, to unlock? I would like to unlock and then go back to my current rom.
Sorry, I'm pretty much android retarded at the moment, and I don't want to screw anything up.
Please post in the proper section, Q&A.

If it is rooted with s-off which it is, then it is unlocked. To flash a rom use the guide that is stickied.

Sorry for the misplaced post.
I put in an old t-mobile sim and I didn't receive service or a prompt to enter an unlock code. I'm not sure whether its because the sim is old and hasnt had service for more than a year.

It is, in fact, very difficult to re-lock an unlocked inspire. Any of the myriad custom ROMs are already setup for root and won't relock your phone. Try a few custom ROMs from the dev section--heck, try a few a day--you're unlocked! Have fun.
I borrowed a valid t-mobile sim, it is unlocked. About to try out a few different ROM's. Thanks everyone.

Hey I have an Inspire 4G that has been unlocked and I am using it on T-Mobile. I want to root and flash a new rom but I don't want to loose my unlock. SO my question is.... Will rooting and flashing a custom rom undo my unlock?
Thanks in advance!
I am not 100% shure but I have no clue how could flashing a CUSTOM rom undo a unlock. Could only CAUSE an unlock... (not shure on that as well)

The rooting process also SIM unlocks the device. You will still be unlocked after a successful root

Thank you! Rooting and Gingerbreading my device now!
I just want to confirm that rooting and flashing a custom rom will not undo your unlock! In fact I have been getting better signal with t-mobile since the root and rom!
I go through phones on a weekly basis but I have to say that this phone is awesome! I think it may stay with me for a while.
Hello friends.
I just bought this phone about 10 minutes ago, coming over from Evo 4G. I understand why everyone would want to root that phone (bloatware), but since there isn't bloatware on this phone, should I root it?
Basically, do the negatives outweigh the positives of rooting. If not, I'll do it.
Thanks!
No.
This phone has no bloat and you have access to all hardware. Stock firmware does have issues but it is overall a good experience and will give you access to your apps/phone/text which is the purpose of the device.
Gain root access to other phones like Evo 4G for purpose of removing bloat or the Nexus One to be able to utilize the trackball to wake.
I would just root it now, pretty sure all the rooting methods wipe your phone so if you change your mind you will lose everything. Actually voodoo color is a good reason to root

Unlocking the bootloader is what wipes all user data so you should do that now.
Of course once bootloader is unlocked then rooting is just a couple if command lines away....

I just got one myself. Reading up now on how to get root.
So if I root now, I will lose all my game saves for the games I've been playing? Anyway of backing those up? And some of the Apps will get redownloaded after I sign into my Google account right?

The apps yes the saved data no. Not sure of anyother way to root less backup. Maybe coping your android folder to your desktop

But you can re-lock the boot loader on the nexus S so it's relatively simple to unroot/return it to stock if you need a warranty repair or want to return it.
Backup is the best reason to root, though if I didn't **** with my phone so much I probably wouldn't need a backup.
what's voodoo??

If Samsung wants to be picky on you they can read out files showing how many times teh bootloader was locked/unlocked.
I'm bored, so I'm going to root it. What is the best, most user friendly (bug free) ROM for a first time rooter?

Stock Android ROM, as rooting is not related to flashing ROMs.

My fault. I want to unlock the bootloader and flash a ROM.
Hey Nexus S forum,
I've got this nexus S from my friend. I've been a hero user, but I ended up buying it for like 50 bucks (steal right?). He decided he wanted a different phone, anyways nor the time or place.
With my HTC Hero (Sprint) I know if I want to wipe my phone of music/video/pictures I can just format my SD Card.
My question for you guys/gals is how would I go about doing that with the Nexus S. I know since it has built in Storage there really isn't a way i could "format" if I am correct. Will i have to essentially just select and delete all the folders?
If there is an easier way, like maybe should i go factory reset, or maybe some other route that'd be great.
Anyways just thought I'd come here before messing with it.
p.s.
Is flashing and everything going to be similar to how i would with the Hero, or is there anything maybe slightly different that I need to do?
Alright Thanks everyone for your input.
Delete the whole sdcard by either going to storage tab in settings menu or format sdcard via cwm recovery.
Thank You
Thank you much for the info. I'll try that tonight and install a ROM i've been wanting to try for awhile [MIUI]
Thanks again for the heads up!

Flashing roms and kernels are just like any other android phone with an unlocked bootloader. Enjoy! Just make sure the rom you download is compatible with your model. There are three major versions of the nexus s. The GT-i9020, GT-i9023, and SPH-D720. When flashing a stock rom it is important to get the rom for your exact model. Example GT-i9020a for AT&T's model, or GT-i9020t for T-Mobile etc.

I always hate asking questions like this, because someone inevitably points me to a link that was super-easy to find and I scratch my head wondering how I missed it! But, I am looking for a rooted stock ROM (latest) download link.
I recently upgraded my phone and made the mistake of selling it to someone with the latest CM ROM on it. Although I informed them that it wasn't 100% functional and of course once they had problems with it they returned it to me.
Hence the request for the latest rooted stock rom. I want it rooted since people do look for that and it's on them if they decide to try out new ROMs.
As always, thanks for the assistance.
Does the person you're selling the phone to want it rooted? Cuz they can't flash roms if the bootloader is not unlocked which means you would need to do both.

It is unlocked and rooted at the moment. I only want to put a stock rom on there to ensure that there are no technical issues that a potential buyer might have running a custom rom (and that they can take it into a verizon store for support).
If necessary, I guess I could unroot it by putting the stock rom back on it and then go through the motions of re-rooting and unlocking. I just assumed that there was a rooted stock rom availble I could flash.

I would not give someone a rooted and unlocked phone unless they request it. If they request it then fine. Bit otherwise it's a very bad idea. They could be someone who had no idea what root means and screw their phone up. They would take it to Verizon to have it fixed and then Verizon would say "Sorry we don't help people who has modified their software" (root and unlocked).

Aight, here it is then. Credit goes to Scrosler for the work. I do agree with @Sandman-007 though, I'd set it back to stock, unrooted and be done with it all. Leaves no stone unturned. Just make sure it is openly stated that the device is rooted and unlocked but with the stock rom installed. Anything less would be negligent.

Hey guys
I believe that it's time to end my p500 life and move for another device! And i have a question that I asked many times in many threads on xda but I had no answer. I hope you guys can help me. So, the question is : does rooting, factory reset, installing custom ROMs lock back an unlocked phone. I mean if I unlock my phone using code and then root it etc.. Will it be locked again?

I have not tried myself, because I never had to do this stuff. But I think, rooting has nothing to do with sim lock/unlock, its just about adding a su binary to your phone. However, factory reset and custom ROM might lock it back. But i dont think you need to worry about it, because you can again unlock it using the same code method.

Sorry, for my lack of information. I told you that I dont have the experience myself. But according to this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34339504&postcount=7 you dont have to worry about unlocking again, once you unlock the phone in stock ROM, because it will remain unlocked even after flashing custom ROMs

The P500 doesn't have a locked bootloader like the newer Optimus devices, however it does have a carrier lock. Once any device is unlocked from a specific carrier the device remains unlocked no matter what ROM gets flashed to the device. You could flash CM or AOKP and then back to stock if you wanted and the carrier lock would remain unlocked. All the carrier lock does it tie that device to a specific service provider ( AT&T, T-Mobile, etc. ). Once unlocked, since the P500 is a GSM device I believe, then that device can be used with any service provider that also utilizes a GSM network.
The reason carrier unlocking must be done from a stock ROM is the fact that any custom ROM won't have access to the devices hidden menu. The hidden menu can only be accessed thru the stock dialer app on a stock ROM. And the carrier unlock procedure is done via the LG hidden menu.
