Case-Mate Naked Tough Case - Galaxy S 5 Accessories

This case is made of bump resistant plastic and holds together well. However, I had to return mine because the metallic (pretty sure they are plastic) buttons on the sides aren't stable. In fact, a couple of days after I got it, the long volume button fell out whenever I would take the case off. I liked being able to see the gold back through the case but I'm not interested in losing the buttons because they won't stay put. This is a two-piece design case with a flexible plastic back and a plastic rim. I had some confidence that it would provide some level of protection if I dropped the phone. if the problem with the buttons were addressed this could be a good case.

[Q] Otterbox Commuter input

Was looking at getting the otterbox commuter for my phone, but have a question for someone that has it. I tried the speck case and it had rubber buttons for the volume and unlock buttons. With that case you had to push exceptionally hard to get the button to push. I noticed the commuter case has these rubber buttons as well. Can someone with the commuter case tell me if the buttons are hard to push or not. What I am asking is does it take a lot of pressure to register the button push.
Thanks.
I have one on the way... I'll post my impressions when I get it tomorrow (I think).
The rubber on my otterboxes I have had were soft...it is a nice absorbing somewhat grippy rubber. I wouldn't see making the buttons harder to push then they already are.
I have one for my nexus one and I really like it. My brother just put in a order for the Inspire 4g and the commuter. The phone is shipping to my house because I have to set it up for him. I'll post some pictures when the phone arrives.

On my Nexus One I have no problems with button input. Since I have a trackball I normally never use the power button. But when I do I don't notice any problems.
Keep us up to date. I was looking for cases for this phone and it sucks that nobody has any good ones (in my opinion).
For your Nexus One, does it attract a lot of dust etc? I've never used one, but I hear people saying its kinda siliconish and i've used silicone and silicone sucks for pocket use.
Mine was just delivered to my house about an hour ago. I was wondering about the rubber buttons as well, so I'll post how they perform once I get home.
Got the otterbox on now, and the button covers are not stiff at all. It just takes marginally more pressure than normal. The case fits well and does not add too much thickness to the phone. The port cover is a bit touchy to close, but that might just take getting used to.

IMO, the rubber casing improves the feel of the volume buttons. Before, it was slightly difficult to determine whether or not the button was pressed. Maybe it's just specific to the phone I got. Overall, I recommend the case but get a new screen protector.

I agree with this; the port cover is a bit fiddly.
I had the commuter for just over a week now and its a great case. Makes pushing the buttons easier i think.
I upgraded to the Defender today and the only issue i find is that it seems it was made to lock in the case with the face of the phone out. When i flip the phone to have the screen inside, the power button rubber gets pushed in a bit. The rubber on the outside is very very soft but gives a good grip. Bottom port is easy to get at like the commuter. The backside has the screen protector over the camera lense and the flash. This does not affect pictures or video that i can see.
EDIT: to fix the power button rubber being pushed in i took a file and ground out a small amount and fits perfectly now
My Commuter arrived earlier today, and I love it.
The volume buttons are actually easier to push thanks to the case.. the power button is about the same. Build quality is top notch and it doesn't add nearly as much thickness to the phone as I expected.
But most of all, I like the way it feels in my hand. Naked and uncased, the Inspire feels too thin and unconfident. With the Otterbox, it feels just right. You might feel like it's a bit slippery at first, but you'll get used to it.
Ordered mine, The otterbox site has them in stock and listed under Inspire 4G now.
Had the commuter on my Captivate and loved it. Good protection, gave the phone a good feel in hand, and made the buttons easier to use as well. Also liked that the ports were covered up and protected. Have not got a case yet for my brand new Inspire, although my wife has the speck case on hers. Think I will personally get another Otterbox just because the buttons seem very stiff on the Speck case. Plus, trying to get the phone out of that case is kind of like getting the battery off of the Inspire for the first time.

Any commuter case owners care to comment on the included screen protector? Does it affect the sensitivity of the touch screen much? Any edges of the screen protector exposed? Or are they completely covered by the "lip" of the case on the front?
I still have the included protector on my Cappy along with the commuter case. No problems with the edges rolling up or peeling. For me, has been pretty darn durable and I've had it on send the end of november.

Just got mine. Fits great. Cant Complain at all.
Anyone mine taking some pics of theirs and posting it here for us to see? Thanks in advance.
If anyone is interested in picking one of these up, Otterbox has them back in stock. I also found the coupon code PSPNEagles04 which gives you 20% off and free shipping.
I just placed an order for one and 2 minutes after i check for my confirmation email and click on the link for the case again and it's on backorder. Crazy

Pretty good screen protector. Takes about a day for the initial resistance to wear off, and it's smooth sailing from there.

Getting a new case: Slim, fit in pocket.

I've been using the CM Tough for a while now. While it's a great case for protection (very reassuring), its very bulky, and the silicone inner traps all sorts of dust and hair from the inside of my pockets.
For the past month or so, I've been walking around with my phone in my hand, fearing the attack of the lint, and wiping the lint and dust off the silicone whenever I could.
I've decided that if my friends can have sexy, slim cases for the iPhone, allowing it to come easily in and out of the pocket, there's no reason I shouldn't do the same.
Protection, for me, isn't that much of a problem. The easiest way to protect your phone is to basically not drop it, and in the half year I've had my phone, I've never dropped it once.
SO, I've been looking at...
The Momax iCase Pro: TPU sides and plastic back, slim.
SGP Slider: Hard case with cutouts for the volume/power. Looks rather slim.
Not a big fan of cases that don't cover the bezel. I honestly don't get the point, no scratch protection for bezel, and I can't put my phone face-down.
Are there any more cases I should be aware of? Are there people who can give a mini-review for the cases I mentioned above?
Thanks!
Have a look at this, just picked one up yesterday
http://www.case-mate.com/Samsung-Ga...axy-S-T-Mobile-Vibrant-Barely-There-Cases.asp
Fits perfectly on my European GT I9000, feels much nicer than bare phone or hard silicon case I previously used, and it's as easy to get out of your pocket as the bare phone. The only issue you might have is with the bezel, as it doesn't really cover it, rather it leaves the psuedo chrome visible, and only adds at most 0.5mm clearance if you place the phone face down.
Personally, I'm very happy with it. The phone is grippier, the volume and power buttons are much easier to use, and it looks good.
Headphone jack access is better too.
Read the reviews on the link.
Here's another I had a look at recently, seems to give great protection, but it's fiddly to get on and off if you need to do a battery pull, and I didn't like the squidgy button covers, but it might be more in the line of what you're after.

I also use the Case Mate Barely There and it is the best I have tried so far.
It doesn't collect dust and the phone slides into the pockets.
I prefer the Momax. My workmate has the barely there, which is slightly slimmer but at the expense of losing some protection. The momax is the best option if you want slim but can still feel comfortable that your phone is safe imo.
I also had the toughcase and became frustrated with it for the same reasons as you. I'm very happy with the momax. Only issue is the power button is a bit harder to push now but a small price to pay.

Using the SGP Ultra slider, totally in love with it as i prefer to have direct access to hardware buttons
I have the Momax case and I have to say, it's pretty good.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790318 - PhoenixFX has provided a review here.
Things i like:
It has a hybrid design, the back is not fully rigid but feels solid, soft sides.
Sides are flexible enough so that it goes on easy but stays in, also like how TPU doesn't become stretchy like silicone .
Lip that protects the screen, didn't notice too much dust getting in.
It's easy to keep a good grip on it.
Dislikes:
As the one posters above me said, the power button is harder to press. the same kind of applies for the volume keys but nor as much. It might be annoying in the long run.
Other than that the case is perfectly fine although I don't really know if it can be classified as slim by my standards , the back plate part is around 1.5mm thick. The back is a matte finish that doesn't offer too much grip but the sides are very grippy.
Hope this helps (I haven't tried any of the other cases so I can't really compare).
i think, case mate barely there is really good for slim profile somehow. and also capdase soft jacket xpose 2 also looks okay.
Check out carrymobiles, melko cases as well
I use the same Case-Mate Barely There case as DMD9, and I don't see myself changing it anytime soon. Very sleek, provides a little bit of a rubbery feel but not enough to make it difficult to slide out of pockets
After protecting my SGS like a baby for the last 11 or so months, it has suffered some damage here and there (home button doesn't work very well, scratches etc).
Thus I decided to ditch the case and go totally slimline with a replacement battery cover (the stock one is a fingerprint magnet, and I have kinda sweaty hands!). Ordered a silver one from focal price (the ones with the samsung logo, but clearly fake) and its a pretty good fit.
I totally recommend going caseless, it fits so well in the pocket when you go out!
I also support caseless usage,
I had a invisibleshield protector on the phone for a few months and that one worked well but it came off.
Now i still use the phone as if there was a protector on it and....not a scratch added.
the screen can really handle some abuse

Infuse: Qmadix snap on case and Holster review

Ok, so I picked up the Qmadix case for the Infuse and I have to say that I like it better than the Ballistic HC. A lot better.
Impressions
My first impression is that together, the case and holster is just over half the thickness of the HC case and holster. The appealing thinness of the phone doesn't get to shine in the super hefty HC, whereas in the Qmadix it's barely thicker than being caseless.
Of course this means that it doesn't offer the near-impervious feel that the HC offers.
The HC has a thick soft rubber housing around the hard case while the Qmadix has a rubberized hard snap-on shell. Great for adding grip when on tables or while driving, not great for drops, falls, or protecting the screen.
(The HC has a built in screen protector, the Q does not.)
Functionality
The volume and sleep/power buttons have cutouts. On the HC, there are rubber outer buttons that cover these and I can tell you from experience, they are easily accidentally pressed. I often found myself turning the volume back up.
The 3.5mm connector and microUSB connector ports are completely uncovered and that makes me a happy panda. I wasn't crazy about the rubber flap protectors on the HC because I'm always plugging the phone into headphones or my computer. Those are GREAT however if you're in a construction site or heavy work area (home renovations etc.)
The Q case is super light. I never noticed how much weight the HC added to the phone till I put the phone in the Q. Getting the phone into the HC takes a few minutes because the hard shell (for me) was just a pain in the ass to open and then getting the rubber tabs/dimples to line up was annoying. The rubber dimples that slide into the hard shell are CONSTANTLY coming out btw.
Putting the phone in the Q case took oh... about a second and a half. Every single hole lined up perfectly whereas on the HC I had to do some creative positioning to get the hard case closed.
Criticism
I really don't have much bad to say about the Qmadix. The Ballistic HC only loses points when directly COMPARED to the Qmadix. The HC is heavier but much more durable and will protect your phone from the accidents of life (other than you slamming your phone down because you suck at Angry Birds).
The only complaint I have about the Qmadix is that the rubber could be a bit more grippy and they could include a screen protector. But, it was supercheap through Daydeal.com (on ebay), so I can't really complain.
And now since people tend to click pictures rather than read, here are the pics.
YAY PICTURES! YOU GET US!
Lol. I'm really wanting a case with the holster, but I'm tired of seeing all these where the tab that holds them in is at the top of the phone or have to slide out of the top. That's why I'll just keep waiting for OtterBox.
I had the Otterbox Defender for my HD2 and the Ballistic is very similar in holding methods. Also equally as solid

I'm sure the buttons will work better with the otterbox. Plus as I said, don't like the holsters that release from the top of the phone when it's gonna be on my hip sideways.

[Q] Good protection (Cases, bumpers) recommended by other user experiences?

I have my s4 since november and already dropped it three times. Once on a wooden floor and two times on concrete. The phone survived (even the screen) but it got some bruises. The top left and bottom right "corner" of the phone are a bit malformed from the two falls on the concrete. Every time it fell out of my pocket, so it's not a matter of hand grip.
So I decided it's time for some protection.
I have a silicone case. It's one of those book thingies. But it was cheap, it's thin and I'm not really fond of it. Mostly because I have a hard time reaching the buttons.
Yesterday I got a hard plastic case. But the problem with this one is that it only offers protection at the back and the sides of the phone (left and right), the top and bottom are unprotected. And there is the button problem too.
My concern is that when the phone falls down, the most impact is taken up by the margins (I don't remember the technical term). It rarely happens that the phone falls flat on the screen (generally speaking). It mostly falls and hits with the margin first. And that's mostly where the screen starts to break too.
And I don't really want to go overkill with one of those bomb resistant cases  I don't want the phone to become more bulky (what's the point of a sleek design if it's ruined by a huge case)
I don't use GPS. I heard some metal cases mess with signal reception.
Considering the above, I thought I should go for a metallic bumper, or maybe silicone bumper.
I'm asking for some other user experiences here. What others have found to offer good protection and stuff. And I'm not asking for a product. I'm just asking what type of product (Case or bumper, and whatever other options there are)
I was using S-line silicone cover for my i9070 (SGS Adv) and it was nice all rounder.
Dropped phone form desk on concrete, fell off my pocket on the street ... it was all fine.
It wasn't really much thicker than phone on its own and buttons were easily accessed. I have not tried this type on S4 but I imagine there is one.
Currently in i9505 I have more bulkier case - case mate hybrid tough (2 layers: rubber "inside" similar to every silicone case there is, and plastic outside - looks like what you described as your sides/back only case, with some plastic on the corners) - buttons / screen are a bit "deeper" in the case (thicker ruber overlay on sides than it was on S-line in i9070) but damn it feels like it can survive throw at the wall and bouncing off the ground.

Amer shellster
I've been using an Amzer Shellster for my S4 and really happy with it. Cost me £12.89 including delivery. Bumper case adds minimal bulk yet provides goof protection against falls. Really like the hip holster for use running or biking.
Can Anyone recommend me a slim fit cover that fits nicely on the s4, not too expensive but not too cheap. Thanks
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
CaseMate Tough case. Cost me about $20 at Walmart, though it's probably a lot less on Amazon. It fits perfectly, even with a glass screen protector installed on the touchscreen. It also has a textured back which provides the "grippy" feeling that the S4 polycarbonate lacks.
I'm currently using an original Protective cover+, and though it wasn't that cheap I definitely can recommend it. Fits perfectly (of course), no problems with connecting my S4 with a docking station. Since I've got the cover I've "thrown" away my S4 four times. The first "test" was when it fell on the street while pulling it out of my backpack. Second time I used it as a torch and it fell 2 meters down on wooden ground. The other two times it fell on carpet. Nothing happened at all to my good old phone, not even a scratch on the back. Also no problems at all with using the hardware keys or headphone jack.
Otterbox commuter would get the job done. But it makes ur s4 a little bulky. Have to sacrifice that for good protection though.
I have the Spigen Neo case. It's not bulky at all but provides good protection. The case itself have buttons over the phone's buttons. I have a glass screen protector also and the 2 together is nice.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BYJXGP2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I went for a basic cheap case from dx.com, SKU: 200649. But it does cover all sides, the back, as well as some of the front, due to the overhang from the sides extending out the front. I got a few other cases with different materials at the same time, but this is the one I ended up liking the most.
Thank you all for the replies.
I decided to get a metallic bumper. It does seem to mess with signal strength a bit, though.
But I guess it offers much more protection than rubber/silicone or plastic. It also held together tightly with a pin (You don't just slip the phone in. The bumper can pe opened at one corner, you put the phone in, then close the bumper using the pin). So it won't fly off on impact.
I think this combined with a glass screen protector will ensure optimal protection.
I am using a body glove 3 piece. It has a screen protector and a silicon/rubber outer cover. It was $25 dollars. It hasn't effected my signal and has survived a few falls. I know they sell them at Wal-Mart and Target.

Anyone have this case?

If so how do you like it? Is a bulky?
Yes I do. On it now but waiting Essential PH-1 Case, Feitenn to arrive next week. Its a nice case. The buttons on the side are very hard to push in my opinion.
While a little bulky it is a great case, and I also have the Tudia GLOST. I love the rubbery finish on it and feel confident walking around with it on. No issues using a metal plate between the TPU and hard back, sticks right to my magnetic vent phone holder.
I bought it.. i hate it.. way to slick and rounded like a bar of soap. Finger print cut out on back is to large which makes it hard to accurately use it.. also the power and volume buttons are extremely hard to press...
Sent from my PH-1 using Tapatalk
Bought this case for my kids to use with their PH-1s. It does start out somewhat slick, but gains some grip within a few days of use. Shows fingerprints easy. However, it does protect the phone. Have seen a few drops from waste high so far with no phone damage. I have I think almost all the cases out, and this so far is the best protection for the device. It is a bulkier case than most. Protection comes at a price.
If you want slim fitting, the Tudia Carbon Fiber works best for me.
I second the Tudia.. drop my phone several times a day with that case. No issues
