I unfortunately smashed my screen and ended up having it replaced by buying an oem screen from eBay. But whenever pressure is put on certain parts of the back of the phone the screen just cuts off. It's got to the point where the phones just sitting there or its in my pocket and the screen will die (the phone is still on as I can see the notification light blinking but this isn't always the case) and I have to push the back of the phone and reset it and after a few attempts this will usually work. Any idea what it could be? Faulty screen? Dodgy installation? (I've checked numerous YouTube videos and as far as I can tell nothing is missing).
I'm tempted to just send it to Google and see what they say as I'm getting pretty fed up with it constantly dying but thought I'd try here first
Thanks

Greetings.
I woke up this morning and my HTC touch pro wasn't at the usual place(my desk) so I call the phone to see where it is and it appears it was at a part of my bed where there's a piece of iron.
The screen is scratched pretty bad and the screen wasnt touch sensitive anymore when I was trying to move around in it.
Then I decided to restart the phone to see if that would help but the phone won't even boot up anymore.
Anyone know what I could do to get it to work again?
Also, where I could buy a new screen/how much one costs.
Thanks
Bump.. this is important :S
Thats weird that it won't even turn on. If it won't turn on it seems like something more serious that just the touch screen. If I were you I would try to get warranty replacement since its just scratches. If the touch screen were cracked then you'd be out of luck with warranty replacement.
I tried to buy a screen too but I gave up after I found out that the total amount is around 100 Euros to replace the screen and buttons...
And yes, it's weird that you could call your phone, but didn't manage to start it after reset. you definitely have to take it to service.
Try taking out the battery for like 10 minutes and putting it back in. Then Reboot...
So here's my issue. Yesterday, my phone started to give me a while screen full of dead pixels (pinkish color) randomly. I would turn off the phone, turn it back on and after 2-3 minutes it would crash again. Last year I dropped it and cracked the screen, so to me it was related to that. The phone works fine other than that (music plays when display fails. I did wipe it completely and reinstalled Kit Kat, it solved the issue temporarily but after 30 minutes it started again.
Today I decided to go check out a phone repair shop and ended getting my phone fixed by them. What this consisted of is a replacing the display and plastic frame. I picked up the phone and everything was perfect, new screen and display which looks and feels like new.
Now it's been about 5 hours and the phone started acting strange again. Now it's a lot less worse than before, but I still get the full screen of dead pixels. The display will go on and off (I guess it's trying to reinitialize or something) but always fails. So I end up rebooting the phone for it to work again.
The 2 times it happened after getting the phone fixed it was when I put it in my pocket to go from my work to my car, and then from my car to my home. So I don't know if it has anything to do with being in my pocket, that's why I came here.
So could anyone could shed some light on my issue here? Is my phone already dying? It's only been 13 months and I'd hate to have spent for a new display for basically nothing.
Replace the flex cable. If that doesn't work then it's an issue with the motherboard/screen, in which case you would have to guess between the two, or simply send it to LG and pay for a repair.
I am a Nexus 4 user. My brother sent me this Nexus 5 to me, but had problems with its screen. Sometimes it wouldn't show anything, other times it would show white lines and other times it would press things on my screen while showing some white lines. Some punches fixed the issue, but it wasn't a permanent solution.
Today, I opened the back cover, removed the battery and EVERYTHING else. Afterwards I cleaned it up with some cotton pads safely and without any force and attached the parts. When I pressed the power button, it didn't show the Google logo because I had forgotten to attach a wire. When I saw it, I attached the cable and it worked; it showed the Google logo, booted up to the part where I can see my lockscreen but then it went black.
When I tried to turn it on, it wouldn't show anything. I didn't destroy anything(imho) during the procedure. The LED light is yellow when I attach it to a USB(meaning it charges) and Windows 10 recognizes it when I connect the phone to the PC(a message pops up saying Nexus 5 was connected). "adb devices" shows the devices.
Is it the screen? I have un-screwed it a thousand times. Do I have to replace the screen+digitizer?
Because the screen wasn't working properly to begin with, it was probably defective and on its way out.
I recommend getting a cheap third party screen from eBay or Aliexpress. The third party screens aren't as good as an oem screen but the price is good for what you get in my opinion.

Thanks for the reply. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Full-Asse...065754?hash=item4ae8029eda:g:gaIAAOSwrklVJian
Is that good? The price is fine imho(we use euro but it will be +3-4 on the price converted from pounds).
Btw, I forgot to mention that sometimes the screen shows the backlight but doesn't display anything.
Sounds like the phone needs a new screen. Also check Aliexpress for screens. I find the prices a bit better than eBay.
Sorry to revive an old thread...
I have the exact same issue. What really bugs me is that the screen is only ~2 weeks old. Worked fine for a while, then I pulled it out of my pocket one day and only the backlight worked. LED blinked, phone vibrated, showed up in ADB, etc. - it was on. Only the backlight showed though. It worked when it booted up, and I got it to go into recovery. I reflashed my ROM, and it worked for about fifteen minutes after that. Now, it doesn't show anything at all (not even the backlight).
Did you just end up getting a new screen? Maybe I should just get a new phone... the cell radio also seems to be going out.
So i've been having a lot of issues with my N5 lately, mostly small stuff like general slowness, poor battery life, not surprising on an almost 3 year old phone. I also lose cell service way too frequently (not an issue with my carryer, all my friends are on the same network and are fine). Camera won't focus anymore (though im pretty sure this was my fault, probably broke it while taking it apart). I'm pretty sure the battery connector on my motherboard is damaged. I've had many problems with the battery reading its temperature as -30 C (battery heath "cold"), i've replaced the battery 4 times now and i still get that problem every now and then. Pushing on the connector fixes it temporarily, so im pretty sure some pin is bent slightly out of place and i don't know how to fix that. It recently started having this issue where just moving or bumping the phone the wrong way would cause the phone to shut off. Probably an issue with the battery connector again. I tried fiddling with it but it didn't do much.
The other day i turned it on and the LCD was backlit, but black except for one single vertical white line. Rebooted and it looked normal. Few hours later i got really pissed off with it for shutting off in the middle of an important text and threw it at the wall (not the best idea i know). Screen was already cracked so i didn't really care. Ever since then the LCD has been a real pain in the ass. i can turn the phone on but there's nothing on the screen. Ii get haptic feedback when the Google logo would up, and the notification LED is flashing like i have a message. The backlight is on and pushing hard on the cable connecting the motherboard to the daughter board i can see it start to turn on, (Google logo, few seconds of boot animation) but then back to black (while still backlit).
I can post photos if it would help diagnose/fix this, my phone is my main camera and i don't want to bother anyone if i don't have to.
Anyone know any tricks that might squeeze another mouth out of this dying phone? Any response is appreciated, Thanks!
The issues could have been related to the power button or physical internal damage. My suggestion: replace the screen with a cheap 3rd party screen if the internal components are still working. This will give you more time with your existing phone and allow you to have a working backup.
Hi
I am trying to fix my Nexus 5. Couple months ago I dropped a mug on the phone. The result: cracked screen. I ordered a new screen with the whole front housing so only thing I had to do was remove cracked screen with frame and replace it with new one. When I did it I turn on the phone but I saw only a short blink of the screen. After lots of attempts of I came to conclusion that I probably damaged the new screen or it was already damaged. So the screen is black. When I plug the phone to PC everything works perfectly. I can browse the memory etc.
I would like to ask you whether my conclusion is correct and the only issue is the screen which has been damaged by me or the seller.
One more thing is that when I charge the phone or it is attached to the PC beside the black screen I can not also see any light from notification led.

If the old screen can still display an image, move the parts back to the old screen to check for issues.
HI. Thx for reply. I don't remember whether cracked screen was functional in terms of displaying image. I will try to attache the old screen and will let you know.
