HOTSPOT/ANTENNA/BATTERY/ROM questions and ideas - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Few questions,
Is it possible to buy the following items and use them as a mobile hotspot boosting device?
- http://www.verizonwireless.com/acce...ase-Affinity-Others__Also_Viewed-mls_acc40151
- http://www.verizonwireless.com/accessories/adapter-cable-for-usb-lte-modem/
- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005NGLTZQ/?tag=lifehackeramzn-20&ascsubtag=
I am grandfathered on verizon's unlimited data still and I am constantly traveling around California. Specifically my room and other remote areas I visit for work I can pull down decent 3g and sometimes 1 bar of LTE.
((( I purchased this item almost a year ago and used the SIM card in my phone to gain 4G signal then I connected to the network via WiFi. Everything worked fine but it was bothersome to continuously switch out my SIM card between devices so frequently whenever I couldn't take the hotspot with me. Seeing as the present situation I am involved with needs the older setup I had before; convenience is welcome.
- http://www.bestbuy.com/site/verizon...spot/8939305.p?id=1218956066940&skuId=8939305 )))
So here I am trying to build a badass device and mount/carry in my bag while on the go.
Will the first parts I have listed above work? I am worried the boost in signal might not warrant the setup I have planned. Then again if it works as intended it could be extremely useful. Any incite is appreciated!
Furthermore, I have a software related question that could be an alternative solution to my problem.
-The ROM I am currently running is Gummy-M3.0-07-21-14-NIGHTLY-d2lte
-The Baseband version is I535VRUCML1.
Is there anyway this is interfering with my reception?
The Gummy ROM is currently on Android 4.4.4. Is there a newer firmware I can flash to update the baseband to receive better signal?
Again thank you for reading and I hope to hear good advice! :fingers-crossed:

all of the above? most likely drivers... they are pretty ****ing bad on this device...
some said on another page claims it is due to the fact your using a old sim card. they claim if you go to t-mobile ask them to transfer your info over to the new sim card that came with the g2x. or they can give you a new one for free. it will solve all your data problems good luck let us know if it worked.
i'm constantly losing connection and it cycles back from 2G to 4G all the time. I am using my SIM card from my original G1 so I'll try to get them to move over to a new SIM card. Hopefully this works or someone releases new radio firmware soon.
I got a new SIM card and that didn't solve my data connection issues.

i had to get a new sim card when i got this phone.. mine hasnt been updated since the HD2, i havent had any issues yet neither.
I'm running on EB 1.0.4 right now and super glad to even have a reliable internet connection. Seemed CM7 kept a good 4G signal though. With EB 1.0.4 I'm seeing it bounce back and forth more often then I'd like.
I would think radio, baseband and modem!
.....
I got a new SIM and it didn't help with data or phone connectivity issues. I just checked my phone status, and the G2X shows signal strength of -95 to -100 db. I put the SIM in my N1, located it next to the G2 and saw numbers of -75 to -80. I am not a programmer or engineer, but would have to figure either the HW drivers are absolute crap or it's a design flaw. Hoping someone comes out with a fix as I got this on the 90 day return plan at Costco. For now, given it's constant signal dropping I'll go back to my N1.

free data glitch?3g enabled from replacement phone

Hey Guys,
A few months back I got an rma for my old triumph for the gps problem virgin mobile sent me a new phone and to my surprise out of the bag it had 3g connectivity I was able to browse the web view Facebook and listen to Pandora I have no clue why or how this happened but I didn't ask questions and since i already switched to straight talk I had no real use for the triumph I just wanted to see if they sorted everything out (Pretty sure they didnt)
If i go to the about secion in the phone my number is actually 000-0000-3700 i tried making calls out and that didn't work only 3g works
any way does anyone know why or how this happend and would any one be interested in buying it since i have no real use for it any more I'd rather sell it to someone on one of the forums than Ebay or craigslist
you can contact me if you want at [email protected]
My triumph did that to my also when i first bought it! I did not have it activated but when i got it out of the box i was messing around with it trying to get google and all that set up and noticed that i was using 3g signal not WIFI! Pretty amazing. I still got it activated and it works exactly the same.

I've never activated my phone and the 3g still works like 6 months later
This is because access to the mobile data portion of a CDMA network consists of two login strings ([email protected]ricket.com) and two passwords (cricket) that authenticate the phone's identity to the provider's server (which is then governed by a few HEX DEC settings in the radio), not the MEID/ESN like the network communication portion of the network. It just came preconfigured to a Virgin (Sprint) test connection. Once you dial *22804, however, it changes your ppp config and your M.I.P. settings to authenticate using your account's credentials.

hmmm very interesting
this actually happened to me for a while. I had 3g for about 2 months without paying my phone, and the first 2 days i had free texts and minutes. I usually still get it once in a while. But i have been using an app for texting.

Ok I got one,
My microphone is broken (everyone says I sound like I'm in a tunnel) I don't have the $ or time to fix the microphone, so I've been using my headset. My head set has a sucky midrange, where everything sounds muddy. I need to amplify the high end and reduce the mid range on my calls. I know the Galaxy SIII has an In-Call EQ, is there an EQ I can use to fix this situation on my phone or is there any kind of hack I can use?
I saw other screenshots of people's speed test with the Blaze & theirs seemed way higher than mine. Anyone know a way I can improve my speeds? Running Provision ROM V3.1

It's all location dependent. But some have seen higher speeds with the T989 uvmc6 radio
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895400 Try a few out and see what happens, note what radio you have now so you can go back if you want.
But in the end most of it is just how loaded the towers are in your area (at least with the blaze's hspa42), and what server speedtest is connecting to. But your speeds are pretty average and not that bad. I normally get 6-8mbps down, 2mbps up, 60ms ping.
Here's my question What ROM are you running?

I wanted to know if it was possible to back port the android 4.2 lock screen to 4.1.2? I would love to have that lock screen now until a build of CM 10.1 is done for the blaze.

I've noticed in CM10, 5gz Wifi is supported. Does the Blaze support this range, or is it just CM10? Thanks!

My husband has the samsung galaxy s blaze 4G; love the phone, but is having a recurring issue. The last 2 micro sd cards he's had in it have suddenly been wiped and lost everything that was on them while mounted in the phone. No warning, just everything's gone. I haven't tried a hard reset yet. When it happened with the first card, I unmounted it and tried reading it on the pc, but it was blank, then the pc wouldn't even recognize it.
Any suggestions?

Is it possible to change the path to which the phone saves apps when you chose to move them to the SD card? When I do this on my phone it just moves them to the "internal" storage space and not onto my 32GB microSD card.
EDIT: Nevermind, just being dumb and lazy this evening. I've found the info in another thread...
Should I Unlock?
Let me start off my saying that I am just your average housewife with a cell phone problem. I am hoping to get some honest advice about unlocking my phone.
Obviously, I have a T-mobile Samsung Galaxy S Blaze. I bought it used from a private party and intended to use my Walmart Family Mobile sim with it, but it would never recognize my sim card. A couple of months worth of troubleshooting went by and the whole time I assumed the problem lied with my service plan and sim card. I finally took it to a T-mobile store, surely they would have some magic settings or a quick fix, right? Wrong! They informed me that the phone was network locked because someone reported it stolen and there was nothing they could do for me.
My service plan is 'powered by T-mobile'. Will unlocking the phone enable me to use it on the T-mobile network again?
The phone is in perfect condition. There has got to be some way to still make it usable. Any advice you have to offer would be so helpful.
Note: T-mobile 4g Sim = no indication or recognition of the sim
Walmart Family Mobile 3g Sim = message basically stating that I need to upgrade my sim
Any ATT Sim (not prepaid) = a screen pops up requesting an unlock code

If the phone is reported stolen, you will not be able to use it with t-mobile. Unlocking it should make it work with ATT. Data may be limited to edge speeds on ATT
Edit: Not sure if there is a way to check it they told you the truth at the store. Maybe someone else has some experience with this?

Have you rooted the phone yet? Do you have a custom ROM installed? If you do it could be a matter of just setting the correct APN settings under the network settings. I could be wrong though. But its worth trying. Look up the Walmart mobile APN settings and see if that will work. That would be the first thing I would try. If you don't know how to change the APN a simple Google search will find what your looking for. Hope this helps.

Please don't get frustrated with me
1. My phone is not rooted. Not too sure what rooting is, but I think its like jailbreaking?
2. I probably do not have a custom ROM (googling that right now)
3. I know all about APN settings. I have many different APN's for T-mobile. Yes, I have Walmart's, as well.
I am very familiar with how to add them to the phone.
4. I also upgraded to 4.0.4 ICS (not sure if that's important)

[Completed] Mobile hotspot boosting apparatus/Reception issues

XDA Assist isn't for answers, per-se, but rather to point you in the right direction to get the answers and discussion from the knowledgeable XDA members for your situation.
Since your question isn't necessarily about a particular device, I recommend asking your question in the Accessories forum.

Dropped calls!

Friends,
Quite frequently calls are being dropped with my s6. Suddenly the network completely disappears from full bars to nothing. I've tried different modems, no help.

Guys I can't believe this. I am convinced that more people are having the same issues with 4g network stability and dropped calls!
Please sound up and let us know.
The GSM network stability is nowhere as stable as with my last s4
My problems include the following
- dropping from 4g to lower speeds, even edge when trying to so something data intensive (browsing)
- dropped calls and random network loss while triggering network activities (browsing, refreshing mails, calling)
- trouble establishing calls. When the network drops out I have to wait about 10 second until I have bars again.
Please let us know how your device is behaving, what might be causing these problems and how to fix it.
Best
Thomas from Germany

Sadly, there are quite a few threads about dropped calls on this and other forums. Some have tried factory resets, unchecking "HD enhanced LTE services", removing LTE altogether, etc. Some report their caller cannot hear them. Perhaps 5.1.1 will fix some of the problems, but that's assuming they're software related. I'm personally wondering if it's a problem with the antenna placement. Some carriers like Sprint in the US have had so many complaints, they have issued special patches. Keep checking the forum and hopefully a solution will be found.

Thanks, I really hope it's a software problem. Sometimes even my Bluetooth connection to the car breaks up. It's like the radio is unstable and reacts when stressed.

My S6 had a poor signal from day 1, it fluctuated a lot and couldn't hold onto network signal well. I sent it for repair to Samsung and I am picking it up tomorrow (they said they have repaired it) so we will see. Maybe everyone needs to send in their device to get repaired.
Same thing happening with my wife's AT&T S6 Edge. The S4 never had the issues in the areas the S6 is having problems with.
Maybe everyone needs to send in their device to get repaired.
It's unbelievable. Samsung is really testing our patience with this device.
- display tinting
- bad reception
- scratches out of the box
- inconsistent home button and volume keys
What's next?
Sent from my SM-G920F using XDA Free mobile app
I have none of these issues barring tiny tint on display. They aren't testing my patience. American carriers are notorious for dodgy reception and signal and dodgy software.
Doubt it's the carriers fault. I'm in europe and I'm having crazy dropped calls everyday

Device came back UNREPAIRED! Guess what?! They replaced the display assembly and camera lens cover!! These things were not faulty, not even the issue I sent the device in for. There's no engineer notes other than telling me the display and camera lens cover was replaced and the repair is completed. They didn't even look at the issue I sent the device in for which is poor signal, and the issue still exists!
I've booked it in for repair again! Samsung didn't understand why the repair centre didn't even look at or mention the issue I sent it in for so they booked it in for a "soak test". It's an "Authorized Samsung Repair Centre" that the phone goes to, not actually Samsung themselves. I called the actual repair centre and they told me that their engineers do not read the notes, they just go through a certain procedure with all devices and repair anything they find to be faulty. They said the screen and lens cover may have been replaced because they could have been damaged upon the engineers opening the device.
It's just poor service, very very poor service for a brand new device.
That's depressing. Exactly why I didn't send in my device. Sorry to hear!
Sent from my SM-G920F using XDA Free mobile app
My G920FD (Dual Sim) has same problem in Europe, poor reception on 3G and 4G , signal level fluctuated, on GSM i have a lot of call droppings. The phone working well only in the places where the signal strength is very good.
Still can't see that it's the phone. I'm in the UK on O2 network and even when signal is on 1 or no bars I get 0 dropped calls barring one which was the other party in a dodgy signal area. Faulty phones maybe, but general issue with the phone, no way.
I think the amount of replies to this thread proves my point
My phone works just fine now after flashing the latest 1.4 rom with custom kernel.
I'm sure it's a software problem
