Every time i open my camera app on my xperia l i get the error camera not available
Is it a hardware problem or can it be fixed through software?
I have tried everything- re flashing the original firmware(15.3.A.1.17), factory reset, sony update tool.
I am on stock kernel and rom.

If you've tested every fw...then its hardware problem..
Did you tried any 3rd party camera app?

Third party apps didn't work. Hardware problem it is. Time to head out to the nearest Sony service centre. Thanks a lot.

Android 4.2.1 CM 10.1 Nightly phone reboots after screen times out

Hi All,
I am using Samsung Galaxy S3 with CM 10.1 with a version CM 10.1_20121220-NIGHTLY-d2att, it is working fine till now, once I made an upgrade to later versions , it is doing reboots after screen off. Also sound related apps are not working. Current version I tried is CM_10.1-20121229-NIGHTLY-d2att, still same issue.
Does anybody ran into this issue ?
Please let me know the solution ?

I tried to reload the other images(recent 20121230 also, by the way i can get into recovery mode.
something wrong happened to sound related module and it is causing reboot whenever screen turns off,
current version running CM 10.1 20121220 manually loaded the software not through updates from CM updater.
is anybody there to help me on this situation
This usually happens to me when I set the CPU speed too high.

Now with CM 10.1 20120104 onwards sound related apps are working fine...but not stopping reboot after screen turns off. I tried several ways its still not working.
does it could be the reason of jumping Kernel version from 3.0.50 to 3.0.57, CPU ARMv7 Processor ??
Does my hardware supports it ?
does anybody ran into this issue please help me ?
I tried the latest nightly versions too, still having same issues.

Are you using stock kernel - I've had this problem with Devil kernel and it's related to Deep Sleep being enabled. Try a wipe and reflash though with stock kernel.
Thanks for the information.....between i hard bricked my phone when i flashed a wrong CWM.
Before this i have tried to upgrade to CWM 6.0.2.7 from 6.0.1.2, it doesn't work.......stay on the first screen of recovery mode and turned off.
After this trail i tried a incompatible CWM 5.0.8.5 and i turned off the phone to get back to download mode and reflash the working one 6.0.1.2 .....thats it.....it is dead onwards......i hard bricked my phone......
I tried to bring back the mobile with linux mehod of QHUSB_Dload ....succeeded to bring the usb driver but not into download mode to reflash again........

"Can't connect to camera" error after upgrading to 4.4.2

Got my N5 last Friday (6th Dec), i upgraded to 4.4.2 today via an OTA update but now every time i launch the camera i get a "can't connect to camera" error, i got the same error even when i try the awesome camera app.
I tried rebooting several times and even force stopping the camera app but it still doesn't work. I haven't rooted my phone as yet.
Any ideas?

After 4.4.2 update, I'm getting Gallery stopped working error when device is unlocked and I try to start the camera.
When starting the camera from the lock screen, it works.
Also, manually starting Gallery or Photos app works without issues...
im wondering if i should wait to see if this issue resolves itself or if i should downgrad to 4.4

Since it was multiple apps, I would assume it's going to be an issue within the system. If he's stock, he likely doesn't have anything to restore so I don't really see many options. I suppose he could install a custom recovery, then install the 4.4.2 stock/root ROM

clearing its data also clears its cache. you can try getting the camera apk and installing the camera, kinda "updating" it. but if that doesnt work, @Synyster06Gates would be right in the next step, flashing the factory img and going from there. btw, this would be a good time to flash a custom recovery, and a custom rom(which probably fixes your camera).

[Q] Nexus 5 camera does not record video

My wife has Nexus 5 (it is completely stock and unrooted with unlocked bootloader) running running Android 4.4.2. Recently, the stock camera app stopped recording videos. Tapping the record button does not do anything while camera works perfectly in photo mode. I factory reset the phone but the problem persists. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

If that doesnt work either and you really have done the factory reset, you have to send it to repair bc of an hardware deffect. :crying:

I will try that but I think factory resetting clears cache, anyway. The phone camera worked fine previously but now suddenly it stopped.

And you flashed the right one? Hammerhead-4.4.2
Like i said before, if that doesnt help, you have to send it back to get a replacement.
You need to uncompress each download before use, which creates a new directory for that exact download. That directory contains a ./flash-all.sh script, which handles the various operations, installs the necessary bootloader, baseband firmware(s), and operating system. Note that this operation deletes all user data by default

I did not flash anything. The phone was OTA updated. Please note that the phone received OTA update and when I applied it, it completed its process but did not update (it was still on older android version) and this happened several times (I mentioned this on a separate thread here on XDA old post).

Yes, I did it. Flashed the stock 4.4.2 and everything seems to work fine. However, when I tried updating using OTA after downgrading the update failed and stopped with "Error" message. After flashing 4.4.2 from scratch will hopefully allow smooth future OTA updates. Thanks everyone.

Good thing is - you got a Nexus, so its easy to flash all the stuff and go back to stock/factory image/recovery/...
:highfive:
Any update on this? I have this exact problem. No unlock, not root just pure OTA stock.
1. Video does not record. You press the red button and no timer comes up.
2. A VID_20140126_224910.mp4.tmp file is created 395.54 KB.
3. Time lapse works as do all the other camera functions.
4. The basic Google FAQ has generic instructions if an app does not work so I followed these.
5. in safe mode the camera works fine.
6. Power off and on again. The Video Camera then works fine and creates normal .mp4 files.
Things I have done that may affected the Camera in the first place;
1. Clear cache.
2. Put a .thumbnails file in DCIM to stop the gigantic .thumbnail folder being created.
3. Running nova launcher.
Unlikely these are a factor as I isolated them as an issue and rebooted but worth a mention just in case.
Camera works but have found the it subsequently stopped working again and had to repeat the Google FAQ steps to fix an app.
To answer my own question I found the uninstalling Said It_1.3.37.apk fixed the problem and just to prove it reinstalling brought the problem back.

Only working was CM11 (but usage was too laggy etc.)

This's really strange I never faced that before
but try those methods I think those will show us if it was hardware or software issue:
1_try to change the ftf file you're flashing
2_try this mod here in stock rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-l/themes-apps/mod-camera-cyber-shot-superior-auto-t2501740
3_if didn't work in the two previous methods try to reflash the new CM13 builds and Cm11 builds
if didn't work that means it's hardware issue
I hope that works good luck

New Update (52.1.A.0.618)

Hello All,
Just got a notification for the latest Android 10 build OTA.
I updated and is seems to be fine so far and hopefully it fixes all the issues
The horrible lag seems to have been fixed but I guess we'll need some more time to confirm this, will also see if battery usage has improved
Same here, updated and looks ok. No slow downs and lagging so far. let's see how it goes after some time.
Still have
- mic Volume problems while recording voice Messages in WhatsApp (Volume too Low)
Updated after factory Reset and with Xperia companion
Fingerprint is still slow when screen is off.

Did you try restarting your phone and try again ? Do you have enough space ?
When you tap Update, what happens ? Does it download the update then fails ?
For me so far, this update is working really well. I am not experiencing lag and overnight battery usage was very low, something that I have not experienced for months now.
I had a couple of wifi disconnects, not sure if that is related to the phone or the router itself so will monitor that
Yep, some issue of 532 version is fixed in this update 618.
Finger sensor is not good as Pie, but it quite better than 532.

If so, you can't take the Ota update.
You need to use your computer to make the update.

My experience so far has been lackluster. The fingerprint reader seems to work better but battery life is not improved and may actually be worse.
Battery life is similar to the last firmware, the performance is actually getting so much better, and the fingerprint reader is very bad (just like the last firmware with failed recognition if the screen is off).

I upgraded from pie to .618 ( I skipped 532). There is indeed a small lag on the fingerprint sensor.
For the moment I have no other problems but I will give it a few days and update this comment.
Update : with .618 when screen is off, I sometime needs to keep my finger on the fingerprint reader up to one second to unlock the phone ( but most of the time it works fine). A little bit annoying :/
